My to go order was placed inside of a paper shopping style bag, and there in lies the problem. When I entered my home the juices from the sides must have leaked through the bag, and the whole container of food fell through the ripped bag onto my steps. Bbq sauce & half of my order spilled out everywhere. The food was good but I know to bring a plastic bag with me next time. Please consider better to go packaging to sustain the food! read more

Good was so good, and we didn't even have to wait in line! Dropped in for a quick lunch and happened to be wing day! Wings were so good, big and tasty...sauce was yummy! I ordered a side of potato salad and green beans. Both tasted fresh, green beans hot and tons of flavor. Ordered the ribs and brisket plate...brisket was cooked perfect as were the ribs. Served everything with pickles, onions and bread. Sweet teas were refreshing and Texas sweet! Our only grievance...the sauce...not our favorite but we didn't really need it all that much anyway. I am writing to report a very disappointing experience during my recent visit. My wife and I have been loyal customers for over 10 years and have never had an issue before. However, during our visit in April at around 2:20 PM, the cashier we interacted with was extremely rude from the very beginning of our transaction. When we paid, she had a poor attitude, and when we asked for BBQ sauce, she was again unhelpful and dismissive. Later, when I politely asked for a to-go box, she seemed unwilling to assist and continued to display a negative attitude. Her behavior escalated to the point where she was staring at us in a way that felt intimidating, which made both my wife and me very uncomfortable. This level of service is unacceptable and not what we have come to expect after supporting your business for so many years. The employee was an older Hispanic woman with black curly hair, which should help identify who was working at that time. We truly enjoy your restaurant, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. Never been here before, wanted to try it out with a friend. We walked in at 3pm on a Saturday, and looked at the menu for a while. Got the 3 meat platter, I chose Turkey, Brisket, Pulled Pork. The turkey slice was pretty well sized, the brisket was average sized, however the pulled pork was put in a little cardboard tray. I expected a lot more for the price of a 3 meat platter. Service was standard and the atmosphere was quiet. After sitting down, we "unleashed the demon" and dug in. Our sauce bottle was sticky around the cap but wasn't that big of a deal. We tried our food and here's my recap. Turkey and my side of collard greens were the best things on my plate. Next was the pulled pork and then lastly the brisket followed by the potato salad. The turkey was pretty good,wasn't dry, collard were okay, pulled pork would have been better but I had a large chunk of it which had less sauce for the meat inside. I tried a small amount of the pork ribs my friend got and they were decent, not much sauce. The included pickles and pickled onions were okay and I would have liked 2 pieces of bread. We were in Houston for the weekend for the Bears game. We came on a Saturday and arrived before they opened. Pretty much the first ones there and I was really surprised that nobody else was here. People slowly started to show up and a medium size line started to develop. The inside is very spacious. Plenty of room for everyone to be able and order to food without have to wait for a table. My wife and I both ordered a two meat plate each. We both ordered ribs and brisket. She ordered hers with lean meat and I ordered mine moist. Which is essentially the fattest part with less meat. It's also the best tasting part of the brisket Id you ask me. Sometimes if you get lean only, it gets too dry and then you might think that's it's bad bbq. I was initially going to order a Beef Rib plate but I was told they didn't have any. About a half hour later the table next to us had beef rib on their plate. If they had said they weren't ready yet( I probably would have just waited, but instead they said they didn't have any so I ordered something else. This kind of upset me a little bit. As for what we ordered it wall all delicious. Although you only get one rib with the combo. At the end of the day a two meat plate with sides is definitely a lot of food and very filling, but what the hell am I supposed to do with one rib? Come on now. Especially when it's one the best damn tasting ribs I have ever had. It had a beautiful smoked ring and the rub used was so damn delicious. The brisket was also very delicious. It had the same beautiful smoked ring and was really tender and juicy. We ordered creamed corn, potato salad, bbq beans and Mac & cheese as our sides. All on the sides were also really good and definitely made the entire meal very filling. My favorite of the four was the creamed corn. It was better than the stuff I had in Kansas City, and KC is known for creamed corn. Definitely better in Texas. The Mac and cheese was also really good. Very creamy and cheesy. Would definitely order these again. One thing that sucked here, was their bbq sauces. Stay way. To be honest, you shouldn't need it. The meat by itself is all you will need. Having bad bbq sauces is definitely not a bad thing. We also ordered a Pecan pie. And what an amazing way to finish off this amazing meal. The brisket here is the benchmark and far better than other local favorites in downtown like Pit Room, Pinkertons,, Truth, etc. Order a mix of lean and fatty brisket, and try their other favorites like their excellent large beef rib, pork ribs, and sausages. One of my top favorite bbq places with usually high consistency imo too. This time I had the Lean Brisket & Bread Pudding, which were both very delicious, juicy, moist, really soft and so flavorful in every single way. The side dishes here and at Central TX Bbq across the street are also very tasty and so flavorful unlike most places that seem to neglect sides. I just want the meat n dessert sometimes, so that's all I got. The brisket was very well-seasoned, noticeably high quality, rich in beefiness, very smoky, fairly fatty despite being lean side and not dry at all. It was melt in mouth tender and had a great peppery bark and great taste in every bite. It didn't even need sauce, but I like a tbsp of their sweet one with the meat order as I consume. The bread pudding was gooey, milky enough, sweet enough, juicy, had a great crust in some bites and warm interior. It tastes so good and I order this like 99.9% of the time when coming here. One of the 4 best bread pudding I ever had imo every time, along with the ones from Killen's Steakhouse, Ruth's Chris and Java Jazz Cafe way out in Maui, HI. All very different from one another. We came at opening on a Sunday, There was a small line when walking up. They went through it quickly enough. They have a small parking lot on one side, and a large lot on the other. Not usually a problem to find a place to be. So make sure you circle the joint before frustration sets in. Inside the we res a good sized dining area, but they have a huge covered patio at back. I haven't sat out there, but I believe they have fans so it should be manageable during rush. They had some daily specials up, but we came for the main events: Brisket: well seasoned, fat was just the way I wanted it. And I even got a side of it with that delicious bark. It made me happy. Burnt Ends: These were good. They were a little sweet, but not crispy. I like a little a little crunch on my burnt pieces. The flavor wasn't bad though. Sausage link: very good, mixed pork and beef. It was juicy, and flavorful. Mac n cheese: it was actually solid, to my surprise. It's rare that someone has a Mac n cheese that I like. So kudos there. Corn: creamy and sweet, it was good. The table enjoyed it. Brussel sprouts: very good and flavorful. One of our group even did a happy dance. I personally like mine Abit more charred/crispy, but that's just a preference. These were worth it. Bread pudding: yes. Consistency and flavor, yes. Overall, it is much closer to my original memory of the first time here. I definitely recommend to anyone in the area hankering for some meat. Staff were very quick and efficient. If there were no consequences, I could probably eat an entire pound of them on my own. As for sides, my go-to choices are the Potato Salad and the Coleslaw. They had great things to say about the brisket, and that the pork ribs were good but not great. 3 sauces are standard on each table, ready for you to try! The sausage here is also really good. As a side, the mac & cheese is so creamy and pairs perfectly with the BBQ. And the moist briskets and cole slaw . The Cole slaw is a hit or miss. It looks like there are bits of ramen pieces in it and I really liked it. My husband didn't and gave me his. The pickled onions and pickles is a great cleaner in between bites. The pork ribs were decent but not memorable. There were three bbq sauces on the table. Coffee, sweet, and tangy. Visiting another Top 50 joint as my chase winds down here at Killen's BBQ. I have to be honest, I was really put off by the sit down, tablecloth and waitstaff environment inside a BBQ joint. Just felt extra. When I have a waiter helping me out and taking my order, there's a presumption that my food is being cooked to order like in a normal restaurant. But I can literally see my food being prepped off a steam table moments after my waiter puts my order in. Ok whatever no biggie, every other customer seemed to think it was lovely. And our waiter was actually a really nice guy. Time for the food. Everything was really good. Everything except the brisket. My brisket was horrendous. The brisket I got on my 3 Meat Plate was nearly cold and had so much gristle and fat on it, and not the good kind. Honestly, I almost felt embarrassed for them. That said, my sausage link was perfect and the pork rib was only slightly overcooked but had great flavor and a nice bark on it. The mac and cheese was above average, nice and hot and gooey, very comforting on a rainy night. And the collards had an excellent flavor to it. Kinda vinegary and peppery. I drank every drop of that pot liquor. My wife had the smoked chicken plate. I think this is what they do best. Perfectly smoked. Excellent flavor. Superbly moist. Chef's kiss good. My wife said her brussels sprouts were kinda mid. They were just brussels sprouts and we disagreed on the potato salad. She thought it was too mustard forward and I thought it was damn near perfect. I was in Houston for a few days and a friend recommended this place to me. I drove there around opening on a Tuesday early afternoon. There was no line. They have a menu on the screen and you order at a counter. I ordered 2 lbs brisket, 1 lb pulled pork, brisket sandwich, fries and banana pudding which cost me ~$150. They were able to wrap the meat for me in order to take it on the plane and not have it spill in my bags. The brisket sandwich and side of fries were huge, I ate them for 2 meals. The banana pudding tasted really fresh. I ate the brisket and pulled pork a few days later and it still tasted great! They have ample seating inside and outside. Very easy process overall.
