Amazing Anniversary Event and Great Vibes! Went for the anniversary event and Convoy Nights, and it was such a blast! Kilowatt really knows how to throw a great event. I tried the pineapple sour, which was light, refreshing, and super tasty. Despite the busy and chaotic atmosphere, the staff were incredibly patient and courteous, which made the experience even better. I came in and grabbed a beer and some tacos on an early Friday evening. The place is super cool with a great vibe to it - lots of lights and fun little details. I got two tacos for $5 each and they were both good, though pretty small for the price. I loved the spam taco but I do think they could be bigger. I have been here twice and both times have been disappointing. I was looking forward to visiting this brewery since we enjoy Kilowatt and Space Pad in Oceanside. We've had the same young lady both times we've visited this location assist us. Whenever I've asked for a "splash" to try something, it has always seemed like an inconvenience. Also, my sour beer tasted like soap. I'm not sure if the cup wasn't rinsed out correctly, but I had my husband try it as well and he agreed. This place is a treat... surely a different experience vs the Ocean Beach location as I assume the owner has had a thrill decorating it. Love the lights that hang over the bar, they look like fireworks in each bulb and they have a hidden bar at this location. IPAs, Sours (for you weirdos, LOL), Lagers, Blondes, Hard Seltzers, and a boozy slushie of the day. My go-to is the Chocolate Macadamia Stout, but I also like their Brew for Ukraine (all proceeds from this beer sale go to Ukraine). I think this bar is definitely underrated! I went here Saturday night after going to Realms a 52 remedies. This is not known as a speak easy, it actually has a Speak Easy located inside, forbidden cove. Although the vibe of this Brewery is a disco speakeasy of itself! I feel like the vibe, and Decor transports you back into time. A very space and 90s kind of vibe. I was very impressed, as I did not know what to expect. The LED lights and retro lit decor inside really felt like a video game. It's a small space with one bar and a few open tables, so it seems like it'd be pretty busy during games or peak times. However, the vibe really gave me 'Stranger Things' meets 'Alien' and 'Tron.' It was a light of lights in a well kept secret and I loved it all. But aside from the environment, you're obviously curious about the drinks. They do $2.50 tasters for their drafts and around $8 for a full pint. We had their Kilowatt IPA and the Mango Beer, both of which were refreshing to our taste buds. They also had a Passion Fruit Smoothie which gave us huge Fat Tuesday tease, but it was more of a hard seltzer so it made it more digestible than the sugar bombs of NOLA or Vegas. Low key brewery in Kearny Mesa with fun beers and decor. If you blink while driving by Kilowatt Brewery you'll easily miss it. This is one of three breweries in the area and definitely the least busy, BUT that doesn't mean anything because after tasting 10 of their beers they stand out a bit more than the others. With a funky neon rock and roll theme, it's a good place to find some cheers and some weird beer. The most memorable being a Belgian Blauw made with butterfly pea flower or the pumpkin spice ale that wasn't oddly sweet but more on the spicy side. One of my favorites, hands down was the festbier. It'll put you in that autumn mood and give you memories of Octoberfest in Munich you wish you had or maybe plan for next year. So even though this place is not hidden but easily missed...don't miss it. It's a hip beer joint that is doing some fun stuff with their beers. You won't regret it! read more

Random adventures on Friday! Wanted to stay around convoy and bumped into this little place. I've always seen this place driving by. Well we looked up bars and saw the tiki bar but it's a speakeasy and requires reservations for the tiki bar. But we stayed at the kilowatt bar and tasted a few beers. They have a flight option to try a few, a lot of IPAs and one seltzer which I didn't mind. A lot a lot of games on the side, about 4 big tables inside and the bar area. Although there was only one bar tender on a Friday night and it took a little to get served but she was doing her best and she was definitely very fast and respectful. There's also outside seating where you can actually order food, but I have not tried it yet. Next time. Fun little brewery, next time we must reserve a spot at the tiki speakeasy. read more

The POM slushee was good but not mixed well and my wife said it was too "rubbing alcohol" tasting. I thought the taste was fine but wished it was smoother in texture. I first came to this brewery five years ago with this location opened up and was very impressed. We came back again this week and the beers are still great. In an area where there are so many breweries. This one stands out both for its beer and its atmosphere. The service is super friendly and knowledgeable, the beers are Unusual and stand out, and the place has a groovy 1960s vibe with lots of giant games to play. I had the belgian tripel and the Christmas ale both of which were fantastic. My wife had a hazy which was better than most breweries make. Most microbreweries have way too many IPAs whereas Kilowatt makes a nice variety of lagers, stouts, belgians, porters, stouts, fruity beers and yes, IPAs too...so there is something for everyone. They are kid friendly and there are a ton of old board games inside for everyone's use. The beers are good. I was disappointed that they only had one sour on tap the night we visited but the one we tried (raspberry, I think) was excellent. Their Christmas Ale is also very good. We probably tried 7 or 8 of their offerings and there were no bad ones in the bunch. Friendly staff, fun decor, good music on the sound system, and good beers.
