How have I not reviewed Pure Project? They may be my favorite San Diego brewery (and that is saying something). I prefer beer (and food) with flavor. PP definitely features some bold brews like triple IPAs and bourbon barrel-aged imperial stouts. If you prefer more crushable beverages, they also serve pilsner, blonde ale, and pale ale. They even have hard seltzers and smoothies, wine, cider, and more. Just check out their website: https://www.purebrewing.org/ They are a 1% for the Planet company. Bring in outside food. They also serve empanadas from Empanada Kitchen and one appears to be vegan. Bring your dog, too, so I can say hi. Check out their other locations. Always a must visit! Once parking is secured (daunting task on its own) it's the perfect place to chill and enjoy. There's plenty of room to spread out, the staff is kind, informative and happy to make suggestions. The ambiance is superb, I look forward o my next visit every time I leave! Had a really wonderful time here! The American marketing association had an after work gathering here and I'm glad they did. Aside from being nice to discover new places. It was such a comfortable atmosphere for networking. The staff was incredibly friendly and didn't feel judging at all which you can get when you go to a place that sells crafty beers. Such a warm and inviting atmosphere both inside and outside. And in talking to the staff, you discover that they are happy to be working there as they are well treated. Well, I'm not really a beer drinker an IPA was recommended to me which I thoroughly enjoyed. The gentleman behind the bar took the time despite how busy they were, to get to know my taste to match a beer to me. So not only was the event good but I wouldn't hesitate to have an event here or meet with business colleagues in the future. Also a great place for a date. Yeah it's just a good place overall. Maybe next time I'd venture to try some of the food. The only challenge I have on the way I understand isn't typically a challenge was finding parking. read more

Stopped in for a pint before dinner. Very chill urban environment. Excellent IPAs. Far too many dogs including inside. This place takes dog friendly to the next level Critique - they refused to print receipts claiming receipts are not environmentally friendly. When I replied that receipts are basic to every business, the young lady working the register replied with a socialistic stand that receipts fill landfills. She didn't like my response that receipts are fully biodegradable. I find the politicization of norms of business troubling. If it were not for the politics at Pure Project, I'd give a higher rating based on the beer quality. read more

Came here because we had errands to run nearby. This is the PERFECT neighborhood joint. Great beer, tasty food, plenty of seating inside and out. We got three of the empanadas they have as food. The clear winner was the sweet corn and basil. Highly recommend Also had a beer or two. Solid. The service was fantastic and fast Lots of seating inside and outside and they even offer games for you and the table to play. The only bummer is the parking but you can blame SD for that one. Negative: way too many dogs. This is a negative for me because I am severely allergic to pets. They are allowed inside and on the patio. If they were contained in the patio, I would have been fine, but no they are everywhere. We arrived by Uber because a local said we had to come here since we love beer. It was a far Uber ride from the Gaslamp area. Beer: very good beer and highly recommend it. Service: our waitress was decent. This is more of a locals brewery, she knew many of the customers by name and greeted them. We asked for a receipt but she informed us they do not use paper for receipts. Really? We recently hosted a small party celebrating our son's Graduate school commencement at the Balboa Park location. The party was a big success. The ambiance on the patio was so nice and a perfect space for 18, although I think 30 would have been comfortable in the space as well (and they have areas that can hold more). BTW, the minimum is 20 and I knew we wouldn't have any trouble using the extra tokens that come with a package for 20 people. The staff was phenomenally helpful. Kristin, the event manager, was so responsive to all our questions and the space was set up exactly as promised including a table for the food we brought in. And the taproom staff was incredible! Special thanks to Thalia, Denise, Jane and Chelsea. They swept the patio before our guests arrived and helped set up the chafing dish I brought. Of course they poured great beers and this frozen drink (frese freeze?) that was delicious. Although the party was officially over at 7, my son and some friends hung out until 10:30 (yes, the taproom closes at 10) and the staff never wavered being gracious and friendly. So happy we chose Pure Project for the party. I need another excuse to have a party in San Diego so we can do it again! Thanks Pure people! read more

This is a cool brewery with a chill vibe. Right away we were greeted and welcomed. We ordered beers and mango slushies and both drinks were delicious. I had the Belgian Gold and wifey got the slushie. We played Jenga and listened to the awesome rock music playlist on a breezy Friday afternoon. Stopped by on a Saturday around 5pm for a beer flight and empanada trio! Creative and fun beer names and great tasting beers. My bf picked out 2 IPAs, 1 hazy IPA (something about otters), and I tried 2 sour beers (omgoodness they were so strong). We got one ham and cheese, one beef, and one chicken empanada, and while they were all good, the ham and cheese was the winner in my opinion! A good local brewery with a pretty diverse selection of beers. And very friendly employees. Stopped in here a few times when we were in town. Tried several of their beers and were very pleased with our choices each time. Many of their brews have fresh, local fruit blends, and those were delicious (strawberry, especially). Their citrus blonde was excellent, also. Comfy seating inside and out on the patio. Couches, tables, overstuffed chairs. Very welcoming. Lots of space. I hosted a last minute work event on the patio at this location and from contacting the venue to book to closing out the tab - the process was easy. Pure Project provides flexible options depending on your desire for level of their involvement. We opted for a reserved space and an open bar tab. The patio space located off the side of the building was perfect for our group of 40, it was easy for people to flow in and out to the bar. Parking is abundant in this area which helped with our large group. Pure Project has a lot of drink options so there was something for everyone. From their core beers, to newer hard seltzers and ciders and wine options. While we catered our own food for the event, Pure project also has empanadas from empanadas kitchen that are delicious. Randyn and Ted were a 20 out of 10. They were friendly, super helpful and attentive to our needs from start to finish. This is one of my favorite brewery moments of my California trip. We sat at the bar and the bartender was absolutely so amazing and welcoming. The space is pretty big with a long bar. We came late at night so it was empty besides us and another couple. This is my favorite brewery in San Diego. They have so many great beers! Beers I tried: Rain: Like a pilsner. Kernza Lager: Bite at the end from the motueka. The Serpent's Head: Mellow West Coast. Prismatic Charm: OMG this is heaven. Biting into a banana with a mix of dragon fruit. A little carbonation. My favorite beer of the night. Madeline w/ Black Currants: Tart and funky. Great black currant flavor. Diamond Dust: After taste is bitter. Up front is smooth and sweet. We absolutely loved stopping into Pure Project near Balboa Park. The people were extremely friendly and helpful here. The beers were all fabulous, one better than the one before it and so on. Loads of light hazy beers and enough dark sweet luscious beers to satisfy us all. Their merchandise is lovely, and the pride t-shirt I ordered is so soft - thank you! Their patio is a deeply relaxing dog-friendly seating area and we are grateful for that. I can't wait to visit San Diego next year and pop back in to this brewery. This is my favorite brewery, I love coming here! When I'm out with friends, pure project has to be the first place we go to. The beer is so good. They also have non alcoholic drink options if you don't drink beer. My go to drinks when I go is the pale ales or the hard kombuchas. But I love trying new beers that came out. My favorite time of the year is when it's strawberry season and they come out with drinks that is brewed with strawberries, it's so good! If you haven't gone, you should go and try it! The service and the employees that work there are incredibly nice and helpful. They definitely take great care of you and make sure you like your drinks. The ambiance is honestly my favorite which is another reason why I keep going and why it's my favorite. They have indoor and outdoor seating.
