Fish & Fish n Chips with kids mac n cheese in the back

Great place! The beer they have on draft is excellent and the place has two patios and a great two-story inside for seating. I loved the cool decor and vibes of the place. While the brunch menu is pretty small, I loved the fish and chips and my husband loved his breakfast burrito. Our daughter had the kids Mac n cheese and it was great quality. The prices are a bit steep (there's a 4% add to all tabs, which is annoying), but overall we enjoyed it.

We were in town for a conference in November and we ended up coming here twice, which is something we rarely ever do when traveling. We came here for dinner on our first night in town and I had a nice beer flight while my wife had a tasty tequila cocktail. We both ended up getting different salads with grilled chicken and they were absolutely delicious. We came back the next night as there were many other things on the menu that we wanted to try. I got another beer flight and my wife had an old fashioned, all of which was great. I got the fish and chips and my wife got the chicken and mashed potatoes bowl, all of which was again delicious. Service was great and the prices were great as well. It's a really nice Irish pub and we highly recommend coming here!

Nestled in a beautifully restored historic church (or so it seems) this unique brewery blends old-world charm with craft beer innovation. Centrally located on the corner of everything. The original stained glass windows and vintage woodwork create a warm, inviting atmosphere, while modern brewing equipment stands proudly where pews once did. Guests can sip on house-made beers while enjoying the stunning architecture, a nod to the building's past. It's a space where history meets hops, offering a memorable experience that combines reverence for tradition with a love for craft brews. They also have wine if that's your vibe.

What a beautiful restored house. I sat at the bar so I didn't get to venture around the whole space. I could look up and see a little bit of the rooms. I heard they decorate beautiful for the holidays. I saw they do bottomless on the weekends and it was hard to resist haha I loved the bottles in front of the bar. Service was great and everyone was friendly. Hoban House: Mouthful. Hoppy. Media Puerta: Mellow bite. Citrus smell.

This cozy pub is located in east village and is the perfect spot to get some good eats, house-brewed beer and specialty cocktails before game time. Steps from Petco Park. Half Door Brewing welcomes Irish family-style hospitality with great food, a nice airy patio, and friendly staff. Overall, pretty pleased. We will definitely be back!

This is a very cool spot right down the road from Petco Park. I love the vibes as it feels like you walked into somebody's old house. Not only do they have craft beer, but they have booze and wine as well. I didn't have any food but it looked great! Service was friendly, always had a full drink!

On a Tuesday, I visited this brewery with a friend and his son. Since there wasn't a Padres game, we were fortunate to find plenty of available tables. The place is packed during game day. The staff greeted us promptly and seated us on the second-floor patio, as we requested. We were told it's a mixture of brewery and an Irish pub. They have first floor and second floor seating area. Throughout our visit, the service was excellent, and our server checked in on us frequently. I enjoyed their Hoban House IPA--a refreshing choice. We also ordered a cheeseburger with fries for my friend's son, and the fries were both fresh and delicious. I'll definitely return, especially since it's conveniently close to my workplace.

My friends and I wanted to enjoy the amazing weather, so we were on the search of an outdoor rooftop bar around the Gaslamp District. Unfortunately there were none open around 4pm on a weekday, but one of my friends remembered that Half Door Brewing Company (HDBC) had a great upstairs, outdoor deck. We got to HDBC around 4:15pm and requested to sit outside on the 2nd floor. Can't beat the vibe and scenic views of downtown, including Petco Park. It was exactly what we were looking for. We made it in time for happy hour, and we certainly took advantage of the happy hour food and well cocktails. The food was good. We ordered the pretzel bites, truffle fries, and mac and cheese. The pretzel bites were the best of the 3, and they were quite unique. They were like pretzel biscuits with a soft, doughy crumb. The dipping cheese and mustard were excellent. Lastly, service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food and drinks came out in a timely manner.

Awesome bar by the Padres stadium! After a long day at a conference, my colleagues and I made our way to get some drinks, appetizers, and bit of food. It's an old style house that's been refurbished with great bar seating indoor with classy architecture and quaint outdoor seating. We sat on their terrace top and had great vibes with sun, breeze, and the city view. Our server, Dominic, was awesome with lots of energy and attention to our dining experience. We started off with pretzel bites, and they were salted to perfection. My colleagues just got drinks but I was starving for some solid food. I ordered a medium rare goat cheese burger, and I was so happy with the portion size. Great flavors of goat cheese, delicious meat, onion jam, and garlic aioli. So massive that I had to cut the burger in half. Very filling and I would definitely order again. Loved the experience of this place, and I definitely recommend that you too as well!

We stopped by Half Door while brewery hopping. I really enjoyed Half Door Brewing. The decor is awesome. Such a cool spot and unique layout. Our server was very attentive. We each ordered a beer and the pretzel bites to share. The pretzel bites you could tell are definitely made in house. They were different than a standard pretzel bite but very good. The whole food menu looks great. I would definitely return if I'm ever in the area again!

What an absolute gem!! Was in town for a conference and Half Door was highly recommended by a friend who visits San Diego often. The beer was fantastic. My favorite was the sour, it completely blew my mind and my palate! We decided to let the waiter choose our flights for us and it was such a fun and surprising choice. He hit the nail on the head! It's a cute little spot, it was a Sunday night so it was not crowded at all. We had a charcuterie board, I had some soup of the day which was a veggie soup and it was delicious. Everything felt like comfort; the food, the beer, the environment. It is a permanent stop for me now!

On our way back to the airport SAN, we had some time to kill decided to checkout the area around Petco park. Came across Half Door. Thought they may be closed looked empty. But it was cold and everyone was sitting at the bar. What a great place. The scenery towards to park was amazing. I'm only assuming this place gets packed during a game or an event. Food and beer were great for a brewery. Awesome bartender great convo.

Still one of my favorite local places to grab a drink and food! Lots of beer choices and unique craft cocktails. Service is always friendly and you get that local vibe which is great in such a touristy area. I love the chicken bowl and Shepherds pie when I want comfort food. Always enough for 2 meals for me!

Ask the Community - Half Door Brewing

    Do they take reservations?

Not that I'm aware of. We've never had a problem walking up and getting a table or seats at the bar. Though on game days (Padres) it can get pretty packed, do plan to go early. :)

Do you serve bottomless on the weekdays?

Hi Michelle, Yes we do have Bottomless Mimosas on Saturdays and Sundays from 10a-3p

    Do they fill growlers?

Yes! Prices for a fill range from $18-22. We also have 32oz crowlers and a few of our beers come in 16oz 4 packs. Cheers!

What days do you serve brunch? And are you still dog friendly?

Hi Liz, Yes we do serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays until 3pm, and yes we are dog friendly on our outdoor seating

    Are kids allowed here?

Yes! We have families in here all the time for lunch and dinner. The kitchen closes at 10 so that would also be our cut off for under 21 as well. Hope this helps! Cheers

    Are there TVs?

Yes, we have several TVs throughout the restaurant.

Do they have a gluten free menu or gluten free options?

    Wings

    When does the kitchen close?

    10pm

Are kids (2 years old) allowed?

Yes. They have high chairs, and they have a kids menu. You also get a nice view of Petco, if you sit upstairs.

Anyone know if there is some sort of veggie burger option here? Thanks!

They do an impossible burger that is SO good!

    Is this place dog friendly?

Very dog friendly!! You can sit with your well behaved pooch anywhere upstairs or downstairs on the porch. So fun!

They have a great drink selection and one of my girlfriend's fave is some apricot bevvy that is just the perfect summer unwind drink! I have to give a special shoutout to Gavin for going above and beyond the last visit. I brought my dog and asked the gentleman at the front if they have unseasoned meat that I can give the pup. He said they had unseasoned chicken so I got a side. We went upstairs for seating and shortly after got our food. The chicken however, was definitely seasoned. Definitely not giving that to a dog. We checked back with the server upstairs (which was Gavin) who immediately told us that yes, it's definitely seasoned. Since I ordered food, I decided to try and finish my avocado taco (delish!), before going downstairs to sort things. In this time Gavin had gone out of his way to get some unseasoned carne asada and brought a healthy portion of it, remembered our table and brought it to us. My girlfriend spoke to him, I hadn't so for him to not only find us upstairs (no number) but he corrected the confusion/mistake. Needless to say, my dog was also very pleased! The vibes are casual. It is a touristy restaurant, so seating can get tricky, but we managed to find spots on the patio. You order at the bar counter, receive a table number, and then they bring the food to you. Chips and Guac (3/5): Plenty of guac, but a little flavorless and could use more limes or salt. Mahi Tostada (3.5/5): Fresh raw cuts of mahi were minced on top of a crispy thin tostada, but again, a little plain and could be accompanied with a lime or a light green sauce. Crispy Shrimp Taco (4/5): A heavy shrimp taco! I wasn't expecting the shrimp to be wrapped in what looked like an egg roll wrap. It was very crunchy and juicy. Although again, needed some sauce for the taco as they did not provide us any. Fish and Chips (3.5/5): Not as crispy as I would have liked, and the tartar sauce had a lot of tangy dill flavor, which was a little much for me. The fries that came with it were truffle flavored, which was a unique twist! I thought the food was quite average, but they did have more unique options I have not seen before! Come for the views during sunset, but I'd keep the food limited here and probably enjoy the drinks more.

The onions added a nice savory depth, while the lettuce gave it a fresh crunch that balanced everything out. Serving it in a corn tortilla was a great twist--it made the whole dish feel a bit lighter while still being super filling, and added a subtle, warm corn flavor that tied everything together really well. The jicama on the side was crisp, refreshing, and slightly sweet--an ideal contrast to the richness of the burger. My friend went with a salad and an IPA, and both were a hit. The salad looked fresh and well put together, and they couldn't stop talking about how good it tasted. The IPA paired perfectly--cold, crisp, and exactly what you'd want alongside a light but flavorful meal. Overall, everything just worked--the food, the atmosphere, and especially the service. Carina really elevated the experience and made us feel taken care of in a way that's hard to come by. I'll definitely be back.

I remember back when you were a wee baby…read more Covid-19 flashbacks to 2018...we were having dinner in the Kearny Mesa-Convoy St. area and wanted to check out what was new or different nearby and saw Hopnonymous on the Yelp search results. As we parked I realized this was the former location for Council Brewing (RIP - I liked their bourbon barrel aged stout btw). Other than the large wooden council table removed and obvious branding & decor changes, the general layout looked familiar. We received a warm, friendly welcome from Remy, who shared the brewery concept and backstory. Sampled beers from their list of six offerings and said we would return. Additional return visits and fast forward to 2026 with Hopnonymous Brewing doing quite well. The front patio is built out with additional seating, table space, and another tv screen to accommodate beer loving sports fans. The rotating food truck and pop-up kitchen schedule offers a variety of eats in with Trivia Tuesdays. Hop beertenders are very nice and a positive reflection of Remy's hospitality. Customer service is key. Until next time...Cheers!

So here's the reason they have the overall 4.8 stars in case you didn't know. They produce kick ass…read morebeers across the board. Even the lady likes the seltzer called Juicebox Hero. Taken from that Foreigner song. It was called Jukebox Hero. Play on words. It's common in the beer industry. Familiarity with a twist. My personal favorite is the Big Fundamental IPA, which they don't always have on tap since it's not one of the core beers here. I've tried at least 5-6 other styles and they were all top tier. Just think of this, in a time when local breweries are closing faster than they open, this place is thriving. No doubt very impressive. They recently took over the Little Miss brewing location on Adams avenue, and for good reason. Build the business. They needed this in the area. There is still enough demand for great beer as you get closer to North Park believe it or not. On my most recent visit they did my favorite beer and chatted with the owner Remy for a minute. I met him pouring the beers back when they first opened years back. Great friendly Frenchman I must say! He even invited me to come to the Adams location next week as they will be installing an air conditioning system, so I'll stop by. He has a beer waiting for me I just know it.
