Fish & Fish n Chips with kids mac n cheese in the back

Great place! The beer they have on draft is excellent and the place has two patios and a great two-story inside for seating. I loved the cool decor and vibes of the place. While the brunch menu is pretty small, I loved the fish and chips and my husband loved his breakfast burrito. Our daughter had the kids Mac n cheese and it was great quality. The prices are a bit steep (there's a 4% add to all tabs, which is annoying), but overall we enjoyed it.

We were in town for a conference in November and we ended up coming here twice, which is something we rarely ever do when traveling. We came here for dinner on our first night in town and I had a nice beer flight while my wife had a tasty tequila cocktail. We both ended up getting different salads with grilled chicken and they were absolutely delicious. We came back the next night as there were many other things on the menu that we wanted to try. I got another beer flight and my wife had an old fashioned, all of which was great. I got the fish and chips and my wife got the chicken and mashed potatoes bowl, all of which was again delicious. Service was great and the prices were great as well. It's a really nice Irish pub and we highly recommend coming here!

Nestled in a beautifully restored historic church (or so it seems) this unique brewery blends old-world charm with craft beer innovation. Centrally located on the corner of everything. The original stained glass windows and vintage woodwork create a warm, inviting atmosphere, while modern brewing equipment stands proudly where pews once did. Guests can sip on house-made beers while enjoying the stunning architecture, a nod to the building's past. It's a space where history meets hops, offering a memorable experience that combines reverence for tradition with a love for craft brews. They also have wine if that's your vibe.

What a beautiful restored house. I sat at the bar so I didn't get to venture around the whole space. I could look up and see a little bit of the rooms. I heard they decorate beautiful for the holidays. I saw they do bottomless on the weekends and it was hard to resist haha I loved the bottles in front of the bar. Service was great and everyone was friendly. Hoban House: Mouthful. Hoppy. Media Puerta: Mellow bite. Citrus smell.

This cozy pub is located in east village and is the perfect spot to get some good eats, house-brewed beer and specialty cocktails before game time. Steps from Petco Park. Half Door Brewing welcomes Irish family-style hospitality with great food, a nice airy patio, and friendly staff. Overall, pretty pleased. We will definitely be back!

This is a very cool spot right down the road from Petco Park. I love the vibes as it feels like you walked into somebody's old house. Not only do they have craft beer, but they have booze and wine as well. I didn't have any food but it looked great! Service was friendly, always had a full drink!

On a Tuesday, I visited this brewery with a friend and his son. Since there wasn't a Padres game, we were fortunate to find plenty of available tables. The place is packed during game day. The staff greeted us promptly and seated us on the second-floor patio, as we requested. We were told it's a mixture of brewery and an Irish pub. They have first floor and second floor seating area. Throughout our visit, the service was excellent, and our server checked in on us frequently. I enjoyed their Hoban House IPA--a refreshing choice. We also ordered a cheeseburger with fries for my friend's son, and the fries were both fresh and delicious. I'll definitely return, especially since it's conveniently close to my workplace.

My friends and I wanted to enjoy the amazing weather, so we were on the search of an outdoor rooftop bar around the Gaslamp District. Unfortunately there were none open around 4pm on a weekday, but one of my friends remembered that Half Door Brewing Company (HDBC) had a great upstairs, outdoor deck. We got to HDBC around 4:15pm and requested to sit outside on the 2nd floor. Can't beat the vibe and scenic views of downtown, including Petco Park. It was exactly what we were looking for. We made it in time for happy hour, and we certainly took advantage of the happy hour food and well cocktails. The food was good. We ordered the pretzel bites, truffle fries, and mac and cheese. The pretzel bites were the best of the 3, and they were quite unique. They were like pretzel biscuits with a soft, doughy crumb. The dipping cheese and mustard were excellent. Lastly, service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food and drinks came out in a timely manner.

We stopped by Half Door while brewery hopping. I really enjoyed Half Door Brewing. The decor is awesome. Such a cool spot and unique layout. Our server was very attentive. We each ordered a beer and the pretzel bites to share. The pretzel bites you could tell are definitely made in house. They were different than a standard pretzel bite but very good. The whole food menu looks great. I would definitely return if I'm ever in the area again!

Awesome bar by the Padres stadium! After a long day at a conference, my colleagues and I made our way to get some drinks, appetizers, and bit of food. It's an old style house that's been refurbished with great bar seating indoor with classy architecture and quaint outdoor seating. We sat on their terrace top and had great vibes with sun, breeze, and the city view. Our server, Dominic, was awesome with lots of energy and attention to our dining experience. We started off with pretzel bites, and they were salted to perfection. My colleagues just got drinks but I was starving for some solid food. I ordered a medium rare goat cheese burger, and I was so happy with the portion size. Great flavors of goat cheese, delicious meat, onion jam, and garlic aioli. So massive that I had to cut the burger in half. Very filling and I would definitely order again. Loved the experience of this place, and I definitely recommend that you too as well!

What an absolute gem!! Was in town for a conference and Half Door was highly recommended by a friend who visits San Diego often. The beer was fantastic. My favorite was the sour, it completely blew my mind and my palate! We decided to let the waiter choose our flights for us and it was such a fun and surprising choice. He hit the nail on the head! It's a cute little spot, it was a Sunday night so it was not crowded at all. We had a charcuterie board, I had some soup of the day which was a veggie soup and it was delicious. Everything felt like comfort; the food, the beer, the environment. It is a permanent stop for me now!

On our way back to the airport SAN, we had some time to kill decided to checkout the area around Petco park. Came across Half Door. Thought they may be closed looked empty. But it was cold and everyone was sitting at the bar. What a great place. The scenery towards to park was amazing. I'm only assuming this place gets packed during a game or an event. Food and beer were great for a brewery. Awesome bartender great convo.

Ask the Community - Half Door Brewing

    Do they take reservations?

Not that I'm aware of. We've never had a problem walking up and getting a table or seats at the bar. Though on game days (Padres) it can get pretty packed, do plan to go early. :)

Do you serve bottomless on the weekdays?

Hi Michelle, Yes we do have Bottomless Mimosas on Saturdays and Sundays from 10a-3p

    Do they fill growlers?

Yes! Prices for a fill range from $18-22. We also have 32oz crowlers and a few of our beers come in 16oz 4 packs. Cheers!

What days do you serve brunch? And are you still dog friendly?

Hi Liz, Yes we do serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays until 3pm, and yes we are dog friendly on our outdoor seating

    Are kids allowed here?

Yes! We have families in here all the time for lunch and dinner. The kitchen closes at 10 so that would also be our cut off for under 21 as well. Hope this helps! Cheers

    Are there TVs?

Yes, we have several TVs throughout the restaurant.

Do they have a gluten free menu or gluten free options?

    Wings

    When does the kitchen close?

    10pm

Are kids (2 years old) allowed?

Yes. They have high chairs, and they have a kids menu. You also get a nice view of Petco, if you sit upstairs.

Anyone know if there is some sort of veggie burger option here? Thanks!

They do an impossible burger that is SO good!

    Is this place dog friendly?

Very dog friendly!! You can sit with your well behaved pooch anywhere upstairs or downstairs on the porch. So fun!

The ambiance is decent for drinks and casual snacks, but it doesn't quite feel like a 'full meal' destination. Good Enough Cocktail Club has opened in the large suite across the plaza from the vacant hall where a couple of restaurants from the previous ownership failed to thrive. The new management has experience operating multiple ventures in the SD area including a popular bar in Carlsbad. I had already eaten dinner, and it was getting late so this was a quick stop for a small bite only. The place was fairly quiet with the outside patio empty, a few patrons entrenched at the bar, and a group seated at one of the small tables to the right when you walked in. As part of the ambiance, there were some vintage speakers and a record player set up to spin some vinyl on busier nights. Two of the menu pages were dedicated to cocktails which were $14 each with over a dozen varieties. Beer, wine, and sake made up two other pages while the rest was dedicated to food. Those offerings consisted of bar bites and tapas. I picked the Chicken Empanadas for my order. Two pastries were stuffed with spicy chicken that sat on top of a bed of arugula. A cup of chimichurri was provided for dipping. The empanadas were each cut in half on the plate. I found them to be fairly ordinary in terms of taste and quality. Since I didn't purchase a drink, I can't comment on that aspect of the business. What did annoy me was that a customer wandered outside on the patio to wait for her order and began puffing a cigarette. The smoke odor was very noticeable from where I sat. The ventilation either needs to improve, or they should inform smokers to light up farther away from the entrance. The rating for my experience at Good Enough Cocktail Club was good enough for three stars.

It seats roughly 20-30 people and there's a bar on one end and a stage on the other end. Old school red curtains add to the vibe. And here's the best part. On Mondays, it's jazz night. Local musicians will play which makes for a great time. Service (3/5): There was one bartender working when we were there. Overall, she provided pretty good service. There was one comment she made which rubbed me the wrong way but no biggie. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so were on a liquid diet. I did notice that they have a few snacks available like popcorn. Drinks (4.5/5): When you think of speakeasies, you think of elevated cocktails. I look for creativity and an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. The menu here, while not huge, has some interesting options. Outside of the menu itself, the prices are reasonable (especially for California). And they make you stiff drinks which is always appreciated. Taking into account the cocktails and the ambiance, Charade is an awesome laid-back speakeasy. Make sure to stop by on a Monday for jazz night. That takes things up a notch.

Came here around 11:30 PM on a Friday right before closing. No reservation needed. It's a little…read moretricky to find at first, but once you know it's tucked inside The Balboa Bar and Grill, it all clicks. I've been to The Balboa plenty of times and had no idea this was even here. The space is intimate, but well-designed. Think low lighting, a small bar, and sofa seating lining the walls with an open area in the center that naturally shifts between a dance floor and a social space. It strikes a nice balance of being lively without feeling overcrowded. They had DJs playing. It wasn't too loud so you were still able to socialize and hear one another. Drinks were solid. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and it was done right. Service stood out too. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly and welcoming. Overall, it's a great late-night spot that feels a little more tucked-away and intentional than your typical bar scene. Definitely worth checking out!
