Brett was the only one, who, right off the bat, verbalized the awkward, ill-fitting of the vertically hung air handler. He would do the project only if it included re-doing the interior attic space to accommodate the proper horizontal hanging of the air handler along with the removal of the unnecessary plywood & sheet rock. He/they re-directed the intake also. The completed unit functions efficiently, more quietly than the prior system and looks better, too! I obtained five separate replacement estimates. - Each of the five company representatives were knowledgeable, professional, answered my questions, assessed the outside unit, the return air duct & upper crawl space/attic where the air handler was located - Two representatives mentioned the strange arrangement of the upper crawl space (plywood & sheet rock present for some reason), thereby forcing the air handler to be hung vertically rather than horizontally); neither suggested/recommended action or solution they simply stated the poor arrangement. - One representative stated removal of the plywood & sheet rock was doable for an additional $1,000 - $2,000. We've used Kilter several times now at multiple houses and they are always 10/10 excellent. They're reliable, efficient, reasonably priced, and kind. Most recently, our AC started acting up overnight between Friday and Saturday, and Kilter was able to send someone over the weekend tech to get it fixed. He returned once more for one additional fix to ensure the system keeps running smoothly a couple days later, and surprised us by adding a bit of extra PVC pipe onto our condenser line to water the plant I'd been trying to direct the water to (unsuccessfully, with a broken plastic cup)! Genuinely the best hidden gem AC company in AZ. They are very responsive, and I always feel like they are taking care of me as they would their own family and home. Brett and Greg have been out for various services and maintenance, and they know exactly what they are doing. If Brett can fix it, and not replace it, he will do everything they can to fix it. About 4 years ago, I had a different company tell me I needed a new unit, then I called Brett and all he needed to do was a ~$300 repair, it was fixed. Not only that, Brett gave me a quote for a new unit, whenever I would need it, and it was HALF what the other company had quoted. We have used Kilter on several occasions over the past few years. Brett is very professional yet friendly. He explains our circumstances and options and we don't feel rushed to make a decision. He never presses or alarms us. One issue we had was when the fan continued to run after the compressor shut off. He advised us how to shut off the breaker for a couple minutes, then back on again. He didn't pressure us to do the more expensive repair (several thousand dollars)--he said if it continued and we wanted to do it, to call him. Fortunately we stuck it out that summer, often flipping the breaker, but the next summer it only happened once. We completely trust him and his advice. I hired Brett Anthony Monik of Kilter Mechanical to relocate the AC Vent in my master bathroom. Brett was initially very professional, punctual and seemed to have completed the work I hired him to do. 24 hours after he moved the AC vent, I noticed a constant dripping/hammering sound coming from directly above the AC vent Brett installed. I called Brett back and he came over the same day to look at and hopefully correct the issue. Rather than removing the vent to correct the issue, he put a temporary bandaid on the problem and patched the roof hoping it would fix the problem; it didn't. I called Brett again today to let him know the dripping sound coming from the vent is still an issue and is keeping me up all night long and now Brett claims it's a "roofing issue". I asked Brett why is this now a roofing issue when I've lived in my home for 6 years and have never had a dripping sound coming from a vent in my master bathroom until now. Brett continued on to say it's not his problem. I told Brett I would be contacting the owner/manager of the company since he was refusing to rectify this issue and he sarcastically stated "I am the owner of the company.". Being the owner of the company, I again asked Brett for an explanation as to, why I have water dripping where the AC vent was placed when I've never had this issue before. I asked Brett if the new vent was placed in the wrong area seeking some kind of logical explanation as to why this is all of a sudden an issue. Once again, Brett wiped his hands of the issue and stated it's not his problem and HUNG UP on me. $1100 later, I have a huge problem as a result of trusting Kilter Mechanical to relocate my vent. My biggest concern is, this issue could lead to other issues ( mold, roof damage, etc) since water is dripping/hammering from my AC unit and into the vent Brett installed. I will be filing a complaint with the Arizona Corporation Commission and the AZ Registrar of Contractors since the owner of the company refuses to take any kind of accountability for this problem he created. *Full name or not, the fact remains that you installed a vent that is causing a problem that was not there before you relocated my vent. Additionally, if you know what the issue is and what's causing the issue why are you refusing to fix it? Pardon my "ignorance" as I do not install or repair AC units for a living so no, I do not know what's causing this issue or if it's in fact water/ condensation that's dripping or a part inside the vent knocking/hammering against another part. At this point I'm inclined to believe you have no idea what the issue is either which is why you're being so unprofessional and refusing to fix the problem you created. It is not my fault you picked a profession that requires you to work outside during the summer in Phoenix, AZ. Your 130° work space is what you signed up for. Regardless of who let you in my home, we trusted and paid you to complete a job the right way and you failed to do that. I am now left with a dripping/knocking/hammering AC vent that you installed and refuse to take accountability for. The AZROC will be in contact with you from here. *My master bathroom addition was completed and permitted in 2013. I do not need a permit to update the flooring and fixtures in my home. Why are you accusing me of not having a permit and what does that have to do with your defective work? UPDATE: I had to pay a different AC company to come out to find and fix the issue since Brett refused to do so. As it turns out, there was a piece inside the vent Brett installed that rocks back and forth and hits another piece of metal in the vent every time the AC came on. I had 3 companies literally drop me and say they were not able to fix my a/c. It was too difficult of a job. For the record it's summer in Arizona and the inside of my house was 97degrees. All of the other companies said it would just be a disaster and they would have to cut numerous holes in the walls just to get to the a/c. Kilter showed up, let us know we were basically the home no one wanted to do because the job was incredibly difficult but despite that, they would fix it. A part needed to be ordered so in the meantime our a/c was bandaided (you know, so we wouldn't be living in an oven) once the part arrived, they showed up with an army of three and fixed everything in a manner that was fast, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing. Like I said, We were told by a few other companies there would be holes all over the place but Kilter honestly made it look like they weren't even here. Im seriously so happy and so grateful for this company. they really did and incredible job and were fast, honest, and it felt like they were really there to help us. Of all the people that I've had come and do work at my house since moving to Arizona BRETT from kilter mechanical is by far the best. I have had several issues with my HVAC's he is quick to respond does an incredible job and from a pricing standpoint is extremely extremely fair. Last year I had to replace one of my HVAC systems that was on it's last leg after 20 years. BRETT did his best over the previous two years to keep it alive a little bit longer and it worked however it was time for that HVAC to move onto the great beyond. I priced it up with several companies because it's a big ticket item BRETT came in with by far the best price for the best machine not even close! I think the closest price on the train air conditioner that I ultimately bought was about $4000 more expensive with somebody else When we first moved to Arizona I did check out a couple of the other HVAC companies such as Howard and a couple of others. You pay for a salesman to come over and tell you this that and the other thing however BRETT and his guys cut out a lot of the fluff which adds to your bill. If you have any issues whatsoever with your HVAC system this is without a doubt the guy to go to! read more

The owner Brett Monik was rude, disrespectful and felt it was okay to yell at a paying customer. All I asked for was a breakdown of what I was paying for. They were out 2 times one day after another. Brett left the second day saying I can't fix it. He was in such a big hurry he left his ladder. He sent an email to me with a quote the next day. When I requested the breakdown of parts/labor he refused to provide it stating it wouldn't make a difference and it wasn't up for discussion. Then he proceeded to yell at me on the phone. Moved in with girlfriend who had told me AC units needed to be replaced soon, and ducting was in need of being replaced. She had an existing mechanical company servicing her two packaged units and said they had recommended to replace them the last couple year.. Reviewed an energy audit that was completed by another HVAC company which claimed ducting was bad, and also had quoted new units. Had both reputable companies out. The current service company didn't send a service tech out to service the units twice. They did send a salesman out who quoted replacing with two packaged units for $24k, and a multi-split/zone for $26k. The company that did the energy audit in 2017 also came out and quoted two packaged units for $15k, and a multi-split for $16.5k, and optional ducting / insulation for $4k. I usually like to have 3 companies quote projects of this size. Having two who had experience with the house brought me to Yelp. I found Kilter Mechanical and spoke with a wonderful woman who told me Brett could come out a few days from my call. Brett arrived on time. A bit dry personality-wise which may come across wrong to some. However he was excellent. After reviewing the existing duct work and attic, he said that the attic insulation was the biggest issue and we could do ourselves for $400-650 thru Home Depot. He did note we would need to extend vents from bathrooms before hand. He also suggested that we fix a ducting issue with the Arizona Room and the kitchen registers which shared a line/trunk. He said they could do the duct repairs and service the units either the next day or the day after for under $1000. Brett and another technician came as scheduled two days later, serviced both of the AC Units (which the second technician said were in good shape and to keep running them!), the second technician then helped Brett finish up the new ducting to two registers. When Brett was finished he noted that he also removed slack from a couple of other ducts, and they also fixed a register. Price of the job was as quoted ($950) and servicing the units was included. I found our new mechanical company and highly recommend you give Kilter a call if you are considering new HVAC / Mechanical companies. read more

So I bought a townhouse last summer. The previous owner was very elderly, 100 to be exact. She had moved out to a home, & a flipper bought it. He did some painting & cheap flooring. I bought it because I saw the potential. I knew the flipper did no actual remodeling, so I was a little nervous about the inspection. It came back fine mostly. The inspector sent a drone up to the 2nd story roof, and he couldn't get an exact age on the A/C unit from his pictures, but he said it looked over 20 years old. Fast forward, I've been here 11 months, & the A/C has worked great. I called Kilter to do an annual maintenance based on their Yelp reviews. Well, I can agree that their 5 star rating is well deserved. From my initial phone call to the visit by the technician, everything was professional & easy. We've used Kilter Mechanical for a few different A/C related services. Initially, we had a couple of rooms that weren't cooling as effectively as the rest of the house. A contractor had recommended in room mini split A/C units, at a total cost of $6,000. I called Brett at Kilter for a second opinion, and after he got up and looked at the system, he found simple blockages that were causing air flow to not go to those two rooms. An hour and $250 later, we were good to go with consistent airflow in those rooms. Kilter has also done a seasonal A/C service for us, and their service level and price were both exceptionally good. This company is easily the most honest, straightforward, and trustworthy contractor I have ever worked with. Let's start with the Saturday emergency call that they responded to in 30 mins. On site. Their tech was very methodical at tracing the failure and soon knew that our compressor shorted and blew the three-phase service to our house. He isolated the unit and replaced our service fuses at no extra charge. I figured I'd talk to them about a replacement unit vs. repair. Brett came to the house, took measurements of the utility closet of our 1940 house, and we went through all the current needs and our plan to expand the rear of the house. We ended up with a great bunch of options and we were very happy with our selection. Two days later they were out to remove the old exterior unit but decided to install the new unit as well as rework the independent fuse box. The next day they were on time and made quick work of the removal of the old heatpump and worked a minor miracle installing the new unit and the advanced thermostat. It's been two weeks now and we couldn't be happier with our new A/C. It's quiet inside and out, powerful enough for the whole house with an eye for the future, and so efficient. These were great people to work with and suggest they be your first choice. I don't think you can go wrong. read more

WOW, If you want to be blown away by poor customer service, this is the company for you. Our AC broke 6 weeks ago and Kilter replaced the part. They had to return two more times because it was not fixed properly the first time. 6 weeks later while I was at work at the hospital and my husband was home taking care of our 3 small children including a newborn, the air broke again. Since it was doing the exact same thing as it had in July, we called Kilter, who did not answer. We then called Hayes because it was over 100 degrees outside and we had no where else to go. They came and fixed the exact same part Kilter replaced 6 weeks ago. The following day we reached out to the owner, Brett, who immediately got angry, refused to cover the cost of the faulty part despite guaranteeing a warranty on it, and then began swearing repeatedly at us and threatening us. He used the F word numerous times and called my husband a "little b*tch". In retrospect, our friends used this company at their rental and the technician got in an altercation with the neighbor. Probably not the safest company to let in your home. read more

I've used Kilter on several occasions. They were referred to me by other satisfied customers long ago. The owner, Brett, kept my old a/c running for several years, for a few hundred dollars, while other contractors insisted on replacing the unit, ductwork, and other very expensive, unnecessary proposals costing many thousands. When Brett and I finally agreed the Rheem unit no longer deserved resuscitation, he was able to procure a high-quality Trane one, during mid-summer, and at a time when there was high demand and a serious shortage of units due to supply chain problems. Brett and his assistant worked (and ate lunch) in the hot outdoors and the steamy attic to install a new register and to remove/replace the old heavy unit. A new thermostat was wired up to replace my mercury one. Paperwork and scheduling were done electronically and efficiently, with Shara in the office helping out. Questions about unit technology, warranties, operations, roofing, and other related items were fully addressed. The overall price was fair and reasonable, Brett helped with the SRP discount. A couple courtesy inspections were also honored afterwards. That was nearly three years ago, the unit has functioned perfectly. The five-star ratings speak for the quality and caring Kilter delivers. last year... I had owner put in 1 of two ac units . I, as a past owner of mfg housing dealership in another city , have seen everything ! Had every type of HVAC game you can imagine to over billings. SO yes... I was a skeptic and probably a bit ornery to be honest. This year the other ac went down. It looked like it just needed a condensing cooling fan yesterday. They let me replace and only charged for service call no pressure to do the repairs. The fan was nearly frozen and definitely TOAST. I am fairly mechanical and repaired it. But still the ac didnt work... Greg was sent again today and he was frustrated when it took a bit longer than anticipated . Though I am not a expert ... I am familiar the protocols . This had a clog potentially at the expansion valve and I saw the debris come out of the screen, at best partially clogged but that didn't fix the low pressure problem. He then checked the filter dryer ( they rarley go bad ). I believe that there was two partially blocked areas of the system ( I know a rare occurrence ) thing is... I feel chills thinking what I may have thought if I wasn't over techs shoulder the whole time. This experience taught me a lot. Sometimes when things go bad , multiple things can happen at the same time. I pray I will be a little less inclined to jump to conclusions. Non the less the dryer filter was partially clogged . He adjusted the bill as if he should have gone right to the problem as a personal witness and customer it really looked like it may have been both items. These guys are the real deal! VERY HONEST , GREAT INTEGRITY. They will be my go to guys for as long as I live in the area! Very fair BILL!!! read more

He was able to come out that day, but, I had a delay on my end and had to reschedule for the next day. Brett came out or an assessment and deep clean (of unit for a new suite I was leasing). Not only was his price for the service and deep clean very competitive, he did NOT try to oversell me on any other service, replacement of parts, etc. He did point out some issues with the unit, and when I asked if it should be repaired/replaced, he would simply say, "No. I just wanted to let you know it was operating at a certain level (or life left)."
