    Peppermint Ice Cream
    Jeff M.

Kilwin's 121 E. Ridgewood Ave. Ridgewood, NJ 07450 Dubai Chocolate Truffle Peppermint Ice Cream Located in downtown Ridgewood is a gourmet dessert shop. These are a couple of the indulgences I explored. Dubai Chocolate Truffle: This chocolate is a combination of Kilwin's signature pistachio and crispy kataifi. It may be small in size, but it is plentiful in taste. You will definitely crave more than one! Peppermint Ice Cream: I knew this was definitely going to be a hit when I spotted the sign on the sidewalk billboard outside. Crushed pieces of candy cane flavored chocolate are blended in the vanilla ice cream. It was creamy and the mixed topping added a crunchy texture. When you choose your desired flavor, pick any size cup or cone; the choice is yours. All of your dessert cravings will be fulfilled and you are in for the win when you eat at Kilwin's. #Kilwins #KilwinsChocolate #pepperminticecream #dubaichocolatetruffle #ridgewoodnj

Got a chance to stop by Kilwins after such a long time. The store has such amazing collection of chocolate items, ice creams and confectionery goods. The store has such nice vibes, gift wraps and baskets are nicely presented on shelves. We bought few things from here, couple of cup of ice creams, few cookies and a bag of chocolate caramel popcorn. Ice cream was good quality. Loved the popcorn. Ate them for several weeks. The girls at the counter were friendly. Helped us with checking out twice. I'll be back to buy some more popcorn when I am in the area next time.

    Ice cream to go!

A family member drove 25 minutes to my home with this surprise! To go vanilla ice cream and waffle cones from Kilwins. We didn't indulge in this deliciousness until he next day and the ice cream was super creamy even after 'frozen' overnight. It had the perfect consistency and was absolutely delicious! Who knew plain 'ole vanilla ice cream could be this good!! Yum yum yum!!

Strawberry on top, lemon sorbet at the bottom

A cute chain candy shop that also sells ice cream! They have a ton of flavors, and they aren't what you'd expect. Georgia peach and strawberry were both very good. The lemon sorbet had a great balance of tangy and sweet. Prices are higher than normal, but you're in Ridgewood, and you're paying for something special. If you're in the mood for something different, definitely stop in!

Grand Opening! Newest Chocolate and Ice Cream shop in town. The shop is really clean and cool. Long open space, with limited seating (about 2 tables that sits 2 each). They sell chocolates candies, homemade fudge, ice cream, and packaged candies. Lots of options for you to choose from. They do fudge tastings so be sure to ask for some samples. The fudge was really good-soft and creamy and not overpowering. Good stuff. I tried some ice cream scoops. They have a large wall of flavors and I was excited about it. The ice cream was just OK to me. Nothing spectacular-good flavors and creamy but just average to me. The pricing was not something I would call cheap so I expected better of the ice cream. The staff was nice, they offered samples and tastings and I really appreciate that.

    Chocolate covered s'mores

It was a sunny Saturday in April when I happened upon Kilwins. I had heard of Kilwins, but had never actually gone in. My sister told me she hadn't tried it either, so I decided to treat her. The store is quite large, with a ton of handcrafted treats on display in the glass cases. Everything looks clean, and the desserts looked delicious. The staff was very friendly and not pushy at all, even though I was contemplating satisfying my sweet tooth elsewhere. It's pretty expensive. But it is in downtown Ridgewood, and it is very high quality. I picked up some chocolate covered Oreos, a chocolate covered rice krispie, and some chocolate covered s'mores. The chocolate covered Oreos were awesome, but it's kinda hard to mess that up. The chocolate covered rice krispie was not too sweet, which was also good. But the s'mores were a bit disappointing, and that was the item I was most excited about. Before buying it, I made sure they used marshmallow fluff, since regular marshmallow would've been a let down. It looked really good, covered completely with milk chocolate and drizzled with white chocolate. But it barely had any marshmallow fluff. I guess I was expecting it to be like a very high quality Moon Pie. (If you guys can make some of these, that would be awesome. Just give me at least a quarter inch layer of fluff per s'more, I'll drop by real quick lol) Good for an occasional treat, if you're really into chocolate.

We stopped in here after eating at Raymond's. We only had the ice cream which was really delicious. But, everything in the cases looked so so so good. The young lady working there was actually making the candies apples as we were waiting for our ice cream. This shop is also located on a strip of cute little town shops. Ridgewood was such a cute area to visit!

They also have a chocolate shop next door. When I walked inside of the bakery, I felt transported to a pastry shop in France. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was super busy. Service was quick and efficient. I ordered a latte and a scone. The scone was very delicious and fresh. My boyfriend ordered a frozen hot chocolate and a chocolate éclair. I tried a bit of the éclair and we both agreed that it was the star of the show. I normally am not a big éclair person but this one was so chocolatey and rich. It was filled with this creamy, fresh chocolate filling. I strongly dislike the store bought cream filling that they are usually piped with. We sat at one of the little tables on the sidewalk outside since the weather was nice. I will be back if I am in the area and in the mood for a sweet treat!

Cross contamination is no issue for me, as I informed them, but I need to know if there are nuts actually inside as an ingredient. One person said only one item on their dessert menu contained nuts, and when I mentioned that many contained hazelnut they seemed surprised to learn that hazelnut is in fact a tree nut. Lo and behold, the chocolate dacquoise inside the Spring dessert contained nuts and I got an anaphylactic reaction as a result and needed to take my EpiPen. The bite I had was very yummy but almost took me out so I'll still keep two stars for the baking itself. However, staff NEEDS to know what contains very common and deadly allergens.

We enjoyed the saffron kulfi (almond, pistachio, cardamom) and cookies and cream (blue tinted which didn't seem necessary). The server gave us a nice big scoop for $5.99. In addition to ice cream cakes, they sell signature sundae type things that you can customize and likely friendly to the camera but not to your wallet. There's a good amount of seating towards the back, which is nice since most ice cream shops are small. There's also a location in Hoboken. Looking forward to returning!

They serve mocktail margaritas for $10 and we went to the liquor store next door for tequila and then poured it into the drinks ourselves. They even give you shot glasses to pour it into. Small seating area, backs of chairs kept bumping into each other and it's hard to walk to your seat when the place is busy. Also the tables are uneven. One table was slanting to the side a lot. The guacamole and the calamari apps were great. Big portions and delicious. Guac was very fresh and well seasoned, the calamari I loved how big the pieces were, super tender and had a spicy sauce with it that had sautéed almonds which added a nice crunch. And lots of shishito peppers on top. The entrees were average. They got the temperature wrong for my hanger steak. It was still tender and juicy but I didn't like the green sauce on it. Which was spicy and vinegary. The potatoes added nothing to the dish in terms of flavor or texture, I barely ate them. The tomato and avocado salad was good, light and tasty. They served it with corn tortillas but the tortillas are very gooey and bland. My husband liked his scallop tacos a lot. I tried one of his mushroom tacos and didn't like it. Again lots of vinegar, and also it wasn't all mushrooms it had peppers and leeks in it. The desserts were pricey at $12 and pretty average. Nothing special. The churros were dry. I give this place a 4 because I loved their apps and it has a nice vibe despite being cramped. And wait service was professional and friendly.

The staff looked us up and down and immediately told us there was a problem because the kitchen was not working and no food could be prepared. We noticed that coffee and pastries were still being served, so we asked if we could at least order those. The answer was yes, but no one offered to seat us or explain the situation further. We ordered coffee and a spinach feta pastry, which was served cold and tasted stale. Considering we were charged $12 per pastry, the quality was extremely disappointing. The most frustrating part was what happened next. About 10 minutes after we sat outside, another family was seated nearby and was served food from the kitchen without any issue. If the kitchen had become operational again, no one informed us or asked whether we would like to order anything else. Instead, staff repeatedly came to our table with the bill, even bringing the wrong bill the first time, making us feel rushed and unwelcome. The café was nearly empty, yet we received some of the poorest service I've experienced in New York or New Jersey. I still don't understand why we were treated differently, but the combination of poor communication, unfriendly service, and overpriced food made for a very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, I would not return and would not recommend this café to others.

If I hadn't looked them up, I would have never guessed that they were a chain. As expected, we were the only ice cream craving knuckleheads walking in on a 50 degree weekday, but on the plus side we had this cozy ice cream shop all...to...ourselves! We were greeted by an employee who walked out from the back and she presented us with the menu on an iPad since the TV screens above the counter were not operating. To sum up their menu - they specialize in mostly Asian-inspired soft serve ice cream creations that are instagram-worthy. Sure, you'll probably want to take 47 pictures of whatever you order, but the pictures really don't do the delicious ice cream justice. We ended up ordering one of their "Floteas", which is basically a bubble tea topped with a beautiful tower of soft serve ice cream. Specifically, we got the Taro Bubble Tea & Matcha/Taro Swirled Ice Cream, but there were multiple other flavors we EASILY could have been swayed towards. Not knowing just how gargantuan the Flotea would be, we decided to also order the Nom Nom Cookie Signature Mason Jar, which consist of Monster Cookie Ice Cream, Chocolate Crunch, Chocolate Syrup, Cookie Crisp, Marshmallows, and Oreos. Once again, another monstrosity of an ice cream order that could be shared by 2-3 ice cream lovers. Honestly, considering that the prices were around $10-$11 for just about everything on the menu, we should have knew that we were about to find out where every penny of that money went to. Let's just say, we loved, I mean, loveeeeed the ice cream. I especially was infatuated with our Flotea, mainly because I have had a major lifetime crush (if I can describe it that way) on soft serve ice cream and they made it to perfection here. Of course, it didn't hurt that the ice cream happened to be a matcha/taro swirl, which are 2 of my all-time favorite flavors. In addition, they also had Earl Grey Vanilla, Vietnamese Iced Coffee and a combo of both - did anyone say heaven? As for the Nom Nom Cookie jar, excellent. Unfortunately, we were stuffed to the gills from our lunch prior to coming here and, on top of it all, it was a frigid fall day, but we still thoroughly enjoyed the ice cream here and you can bet that we'll be back one day when we can actually feel our fingers after holding the ice cream for more than 10 seconds.

Whenever it was cooked and/or reheated, it certainly was not fresh--and should never have been served to any customer...let alone, in our case, to an elderly woman who can no longer get to the restaurant due to mobility issues, but was so looking forward to a quality meal! Instead, she was given garbage from Matthews Diner--literally--that obviously could not be eaten. As for the missing wing, we can only assume that it was so burnt and charred in appearance that the cook, chef or whatever the person in Matthews kitchen can possibly be called decided to hack it off before it could be seen....and then put the remnants of the inedible chicken into the packaging for us to unknowingly purchase! Beyond the defrauding of a wonderful, elderly woman and longtime, now-former customer, does this restaurant have no shame? But the miserable treatment wasn't finished yet, as the reaction from owner/manager "Sam" when reached on the phone was that it was basically our tough luck! According to Sam--who offered no make-good or refund--we had the responsibility to open the packaged, wrapped up dinner tin and check what was in there thoroughly before we bought the meal (really?)--as opposed to trusting the diner to check its own food and have quality standards! Sam then insulted my elderly mother (the senior-aged customer for whom the meal was purchased), and, before hanging up, said "Don't come here again!" Bud, you can rest assured that nobody in our family ever will.
