Apparently diamonds are cheaper in certain areas because of competition and availability which is understandable. It is your traditional Asian owned jewelry store. They had a small selection, but we were able to find the perfect bangle. It would have been a couple thousand more if I had bought it at an American store and at least 5,000 more if I bought it at Tiffany's or Bailey, Banks & Biddle. I just loved it. So simple and elegant. They let us pick out our diamonds and it was made then and there. They will work around your budget and if you have cash, even better. I think we got a fabulous deal. So much so that my mother was able to get a gorgeous diamond necklace for herself. The service is great and they even cleaned all our other jewelry while we waited. I don't think I can go back to shopping in an American store. You just don't get the greatest bang for your buck. read more

We purchased a few necklaces from them and not knowing thought they were going to swindle us right in front of our faces. They took advantage of me knowing I was distracted by my toddler. (Note to self: never bring children unless it's for them too. Which it was but we were getting close to her nap time) After my selection and agreed on price, I was tending to my toddler who was getting restless, so they cut the gold more than what we agreed upon. I didn't noticed until we got home. We went back and the owner is telling me that they charged us for labor and wanted to charge us a ridiculous amount to extend it. My mom suggested this place to get some extra bling for my wedding. At first i didn't see anything I liked and was ready to leave. If you speak Vietnamese/Cantonese it would be helpful with the owner. Since I do not speak either, it was difficult to communicate. However, Jack was very easy to communicate with. He put some pieces together for me and I ended up getting a bracelet and necklace here. I think the prices are pretty good here. They had to order my items since I was changing the setting on the necklace and needed a bigger bracelet. The one con was that they never called me to say it was ready for pick up until I called them since it was getting close to my wedding date and needed the items soon. When I was shopping around for engagement rings I felt overwhelmed, it's a daunting task. Going to large retailers and name brand shops made things feel even more overwhelming - those shops would typically just keep trying to steer me to higher priced items instead of actually answering my questions. Even when I gave them a budget those shops would consistently keep steering me towards settings and diamonds outside of my budget range (and I had a healthy budget too). What also bothered me about the large retailers was that they always carried a sense of arrogance around them; it may be a sales tactic to make you feel like you are buying luxury from them, but definitely something that turned me off from working with those shops. They will lie and tell you there r scratches will cost money to polish, the GIA paper is too old therefore you will be loosing out money ( I bought these GIA diamonds from her) all the reasons in the world to buy it for less than the 10% that was on the receipt. Gave me a lot of good advice. I ultimately picked a style. The engagement band had some issues after I bought it, not due to Kim Van store's fault. It was the manufacturer. The little decorative diamonds were falling off the band. And Jack happily fixed it for me. Eventually, he replaced it with a new band. Just great, reliable service. That was three years ago. They had a ton of engagement ring settings to choose from (but I already have one on my finger :D). They seem to do mostly 14kt and 18kt jewelry (unsure of platinum since I didn't ask) rather than 24kt gold. I also saw some imitation jewelry such as Chanel pendants and Cartier love bracelets (in yellow, rose and white gold). The guy in the store was nice enough. Based on other reviews, sounds like he's the son of the owner. He checked in with us a few times to see if we needed help. They do have a small staff so be patient, they take the time to really make sure you're happy. Just an example of my own personal experience: I went to Shane Co for an engagement ring, because I knew they had paperwork and certification on their diamonds. Knowing that they are an American company I could trust. My visit to Shane Co was pleasant but after I did more research about Diamonds, I found out that mines was just of fair quality. I asked my mother and she told me to check Kim Van out. They surprised me with a bigger diamond and at a better price WITH certificate and paperwork. They even showed me the tiny diamond inscriptions under a microscope blown up on a TV screen so I that I knew I was getting the correct diamond. Shane Co reps gave me a magnifying glass, literally. We recently purchased our wedding bands here with the assistance of Jack. Staff here is very friendly, courteous, and extremely helpful. We had the wedding bands we wanted in mind but unfortunately they did not carry them. No problem at all!! Jack offered to have them custom made for us but would take some time to complete and wanted to make sure that the bands would arrive in time for the wedding. We had constant updates about the bands. Once the rings arrived we were notified to pick them up at our early convenience and they will work around our schedule. Bands turned out much nicer than we imagined!!
