Kimlin propane did not come and service my home when I called them a week in advance with 30% propane. They removed my original review because it was not detailed enough, I originally had a very detailed review but edited it because of Kimlins retaliation. Upon calling Kimlin propane to see where my delivery was they refused to come do their job and provide me and my 4 month old son with the heat and hot water their propane provides my home without me first giving them all of my life's banking information for their computers, which I removed from their system because they were trying to charge me without permission the prior month despite no payment issues in my end in the past. The electric company gives me electricity without needing all of my banking information, why can this company providing an important service do it? It is clear they make personal decisions about who they do and do not provide propane too. How can they call themselves a propane company if they can not even manage to provide propane to their customers? Just like all of the rest of the reviews the staff was very incompetent and rude, they clearly do not care about their customers well being, just making money. They act like they are selling happy meals, people can live with out, but they are selling a life necessity. These people should be in jail or shut down. I would name names but Kimlin propane will harass me over it and send the police to my home. Yet still their propane tank is here? Their competitors came the very same day I called to provide my family with heat and hot water, like a good company should. Please look elsewhere for propane if your family needs it. Kimlin was a nightmare from the beginning. Bought a house that had Kimlin propane tanks, when needing a refill, they tried to charge me 3 times the NYSERDA price for my area. After calling other competitors to get price match, they finally agreed for $4.50 a gallon (still $2 over avg at the time), and they locked in for 1 year. Now they are no longer matching local competitors and trying to charge $9 a gallon ( 3x Nyserda pricing) . Switched to their competition, and paying less than 3 years ago. I rarely leave less than excellent reviews however... my empty propane bottle is still waiting for their pick up after several months because I am unwilling to pay a several hundred dollar fee for having it picked up after switching to a different company. I had no contract with them by the way, and this fee is just a total insult, along with some of their other practices. The delivery drivers were always nice guys, no problem there. i've had kimlin propane for 22 years and they always charged me a very fair price for a low use customer. that ended in january 2018 when they decided to charge me $5 a gallon not the previous $2 and change. I got them down $1 a gallon on the 17 gallons they delivered to me and had them put me on "will call". I did call and that was for them to pick up their 22 year old tank. i switched to britt and graff, bought my own 100 gallon tank that they installed and got a fill up for $1.85 a gallon. max kimlin has set out to destroy his grandfather's business and is doing a great job. i hear their storage yard is full of recently picked up tanks from all the customers they're loosing. read more

I have never written a review on yelp, but I feel obligated to do so. We live in New Paltz and have been loyal customers of Kimlin for almost 9 years. We had our ups and downs, but when we signed up for automatic delivery and bill pay, everything was great. Unfortunately, that has changed. In March, they delivered $799.44 of propane. They are saying the bill pay was declined (they use another service to collect). Our bank shows no record of an attempt on their part and therefore, no decline. We have been charged with approximately $50 in late payments and about $200 in fees because they locked our tanks on Wednesday and then unlocked them on Thursday after they got their money. The story is long and complicated, but basically, we did not know that they never got their money. They did not contact us until 52 days later to let us know. After 60 days of non-payment, you are in the red zone! They did not tell us that they were locking the tanks on Wednesday. They do not believe our bank and I am continuing to contest the fees. The GM was incredibly patronizing on the phone and even rude to the bank rep when we did a 3 way call. We will be filing a complaint with the BBB. We will also be ended our contract with them. Avoid at all costs. Sketchy service, accounting and more. You'll find a lower price from Suburban nearby, yet I would recommend Weaver, as they are the same price as Kimlin, yet with real service. I went through a week with Kimlin confirming multiple times a delivery, only to speak with Mark Kimlin who claimed I previously spoke with an imposter. Called Weaver and they were here in an hour. Two months ago I canceled the propane contract with Kimlin Propane that came with our house when we bought it in 2012. Since then I've tried to get them to come and remove the tank, but they don't seem to be interested in doing so even though I've asked them several times. And they've told me I can't dispose of it myself as it would be considered "stolen property." So I may have to hire an attorney just to get rid of a propane tank. Kimlin Gas started out as a nice company but has morphed into a pretty shady outfit. Ordering gas is just a nasty experience. You have to put your combat boots and start arguing the best price. You better inform yourself about average NY gas prices beforehand otherwise they charge astronomical prices. Their locked-in price is just as bad a deal as ordering a refill. They come every month and charge hefty fees. Totally not worth being on one of their plans. I guess it is time to look for a new company! read more

At a time when everyone is crazy busy and the backlog of deliveries is long I called about getting a delivery and was told two weeks. I explained that I was almost out and they they said they would deliver by friday with today being tuesday. Everyone's life experiences are different but personally, I have found there customer services representatives to be helpful, professional, and cheerful. We've recently received a series of bills and phone threats advising that an unpaid "MINIMUM USAGE FEE" was overdue, resulting in a threat to remove the propane service to our home. When asked to clarify, an operator explained that there was an "industry standard" to charge for the "equipment rental - tank and regulator - if gas usage fell below their (seemingly arbitrary) goals." In essence: pay for what you aren't using. I explained that local competitors like Miramito offered no such plans and that paying a penalty for CONSERVING energy seemed counterintuitive in an age where GOING GREEN is proudly advertised. The threat remained: pay up or we'll end service within the week. Important to note: we've used KIMLIN since purchasing the home 17 years ago. Records show few requests for such penalties. In a competitive market, they would do well to review the customer services they offer. The telephone staff, barely comprehensible, was quite insistent and, frankly snide. Unless there is a rebate and apology, this will be the last order from KIMLIN. And when they come to take the tank away and follow up with a $100 "removal fee" as noted in other reviews, we'll just meet in court. A once reliable business that seems to have completely lost its way. I've been a loyal customer for 26 years, always promptly paid my bills, refered numerous customers. When Mark was the head of the company they were noted for their impeccable customer service. Since his son Max has taken over, the business has gone down the tubes. They can no longer be depended upon. During our most recent storm they failed to deliver the propane I ordered in advance. I had to buy a kerosine heater to keep the house warm during the storm and now, three days later, it's still the kerosine heater that's heating the house. Every day I phone to see if I'm on the day's delivery list, every day they tell me no, but they're scheduled to make my delivery tomorrow. Until tomorrow comes, and then I'm certainly on the next day's list. Meanwhile, we can't cook meals, bathe or do anything else that requires propane. Having received very positive word-of-mouth reviews from other Kimlin customers we decided to go to Kimlin for our LP needs. We contacted them about having an onsite inspection for location of an LP tank. An inspector came out verified the site where we wanted to place the tank. Then we were told a document would be sent to us to sign through docu-sign and once that was complete an install date would be set up. Sounds simple, right? Well what transpired next over the next two weeks was nothing short of a frustrating, bang your head against the wall experience. I signed the document on a Monday morning. By that Thursday I had not heard from them, so I called. A lady in the home office states that they don't have my document yet and that I should sign it. I informed her that I was looking at the "document completed" status confirmation on docu-sign. I'm placed on hold. A minute or so later, she comes back and says they have it. Minor hiccup. I am then set up for an install the following Tuesday but no specific time is mentioned. I ask "will someone call me to let me know when I can expect the install team?" They reply "yes". It's now Tueday morning the following week and I have no phone call or email and no idea when they are coming out other than a vague "between 12 and 4PM". 2PM rolls around and a tech shows up with the new tank and we discuss installation and I show him the site to install. He then informs me that he cannot install the LP tank in the site that both I and Kimlin originally agreed upon as it violates safety protocols by being too close to a "mechanical intake or exhaust". I end up finding an alternative site near the house that I'm happy with, the tech agrees and I leave him to his work. A few minutes later he informs me that he "cannot perform the install" as "the home office has said that the job now has become too large in regards to install time" and that since "he has other appointments" I am then told to call the home office and set up another install date. Note here that the install time went from about 2 hours to just over 4 according to the tech through no fault of mine. I get on the line with Kimlin immediately and am told that they will try to fit me in for Wednesday. I ask "will someone call me to let me know one way or the other?", I'm told "yes" and that the customer service rep is trying to get in contact with the install/service manager to confirm a Wed. fit-in. I'm told I will receive a phone call by 4PM to update status. The call ends. It's now 4:20PM and I have not received a phone call as promised. I call Kimlin back and am told that they can't get ahold of the install manager and that the office's communication with him is typically poor. I am also told that they will call me if Wednesday is a go. It's now Wed. morning, after 9AM. I have no phone call. I call them again and am told by a lady in the office that they are still working to fit me in for that day and also on Thursday if Wed doesn't work. I am also told that if Wed or Thurs are a no-go then I have a definite Friday install appointment. Again I ask "is someone going to call me to let me know?", I'm told again, that yes, someone will call me. It's now Thursday late morning and I have not received a phone call. I call them back, again, and am told they are still working on fitting me in that day, but they will definitely be there on Friday. I now say "someone needs to call me, I need to know what's going on". I'm assured I will be informed. It's now Friday and I have received no phone call or any information whatsoever, so I'm in the dark. It's 12:30PM on Friday and I am starting to swear outloud to myself before dialing Kimlin. I speak to another lady at Kimlin and they said that my install is still good for that day and that they are looking to see what the driver's status is. I am told, you guessed it, that I will receive a call back to let me know where the install tech is and when he will be on site. Forty minutes later, with no phone call, the install tech knocks on my door. We discuss the secondary site installation and he begins his work. I still have no heard from the home office on anything here. This company suffers from a condition that affects a large number of companies today, poor customer service from the very department so named for it. I've found time and time again that a company's call center is typically dysfunctional while in a stark contrast their techs who come to your home to service or install equipment are usually very helpful, very knowledgeable and professional. This company is sadly another example of that. I received glowing reviews by word of mouth from other local customers but my own personal experience was less than desirable. I have not used Kimlin for propane. Unfortunately I DID use them for fuel oil. My furnace stopped working 4 times in 3 months because the nozzle was clogged and had to be replaced because of their oil! I don't understand all the negative reviews. We have used Kimlin for going on 6 years now and have not had any problems. The price they quote is the price we pay. We are on autofill and yes, sometimes we get low since no one can predict just how cold it will be every day of the winter. So I check the gauge about 3 weeks after our last delivery and if it is 30% or less I call them and they get us a delivery within days. The folks on the phone are always pleasant and the delivery guys are great. read more

When Kimlin Propane began charging me $75 per year "tank rental" in addition to the propane I used, I decided to terminate my business with them and go with a different supplier. When I informed them of the cancellation, I was told that there would be a $160 "tank removal" charge for them to pick up the tank. To avoid this charge, my neighbor and I delivered to tank (100# cylinder), and the regulator, to the Kimlin drop off yard. Kimlin accepted the tank and noted that the customer had returned it. I then received an invoice in the mail charging me $160 for the tank removal plus another $105 for "labor". When I called Kimlin to ask why I was being charged after delivering the tank myself I was told (by Nicole) that the $160 charge was for "work" and the $105 charge was for "labor". When I asked for an explanation she used the analogy of bringing your car in for repairs. The $160 was the same as when the mechanic charges for the work being done on your car and the $105 is for his labor. When I told her that what she said didn't make sense (I was not purchasing repair parts nor the labor to install them), she hung up on me. As I do not like unpaid bills (legitimate or not), I have paid the $265 charge to Kimlin. I then submitted a complaint to the Poughkeepsie District Attorney's Office For Consumer Affairs. Because of the "large number of complaints" being received concerning this company, they said my complaint was forwarded (with others) to the New York Attorney General's Office. I'm awaiting the outcome of their investigation. read more

If I was able to give a negative rating I would. When I first contacted Kimlin three years ago they seemed like a decent company, they however proved not to be. The following year they accidently filled my tank instead of my neighbors, I get a call from the office manager who had one hell of an attitude demanding payment immediately for their mistake. I advised I hadnt asked nor expected a delivery and I would pay them when I got paid in three days. I come home from work the next day to find i had no propane at all. They gave my tank to my neighbor and gave me his empty one and didnt even put the amount of propane I had had left in it. I call them and Im told almost a two week window for delivery, mind you this was completely their screw up, and I get an attitude. I said fine than come get your tank in two weeks, their response will have a driver there in 45 min? You can have someone pick up a tank that you emptied but you cant deliver? They come and deliver after I leave a message for the owner which was never returned. I call again for the following year to have a delivery and I am advised of a thursday time one week away, possibly sooner. Was promised I would get a call if they were coming another day as I always pay cash and need to be there. Well no call and they show up on wed. I advise the girl Im not there and I would come to the office when I came home. She advised I could pay but they wont deliver and aren't concerned with losing a customer despite their repeated mistakes. I said fine and told them to come get the tank via email. They come a week later get the tank as I had gone with Depew, which has customer service and doesnt have arrogant snots answering the phone. I get a bill in the mail a week later to pay for a tank pick up fee, Im not kidding. I call and the girl says well its in contract so pay it. I said funny I thought when I signed contract I was getting customer service, no response. So basically because I had been courteous and told them to come get tank they try to bill me, not surprising I left a message for owner which wasn't returned. truly a horrible company, when I had asked people on facebook for another company it was amazing how many said stay away from Kimlin because of their complete and utter lack of integrity. * * * read more

Kimlin Propane charged us three times the amount we agreed on, in writing. This company removed us from auto-delivery in the middle of the winter, without warning. This company sent someone, without warning, to remove our tanks, in the middle of the winter, despite the fact that we owed them $0. This company refused to deliver propane in 10-degree weather, while knowing that we were freezing in our home, with two young children and six pets. This company's employees spoke incredibly rudely to and about my wife. This company's president Maximilian Kimlin intentionally obstructed a new agreement between myself and a competing propane delivery company, even lying about me and what actually transpired. (I went to Facebook to share my experience, and 10 or so other people told me they had a similar experience.) Not only does this company provide poor service, its actions are bordering on criminal. Much higher rate for propane cooking tanks than for heating tanks. Last year, after being a customer who paid on time for over a decade, I was threatened with a minimum delivery charge because I lowered my usage, which was finally waived when I offered to take my business elsewhere (though no company is any cheaper, and you have to pay for their branded tanksif you wish to switch). This year, when I called for my annual delivery, I was told it would be "a couple days," with no definitive date. I was always on automatic delivery (again, 34 years) and ran out for the first time. This is unacceptable! I called to have the tank picked up and the office staff made wise comment to me.
