I called them with credit card in hand, ready to purchase the refrigerator I saw listed at $250 on their website. I was informed by the "manager" I spoke to that it was an online price only, however, there is not the option to purchase this item online. I mentioned to the guy that I couldn't find the buy online option and was told that there wasn't one. That the REAL price on the refrigerator was $275 and that I had to pay cash if I wanted it at the $250 price. NO WHERE on the website does it say "these are cash only prices". I purchased a refurb. stackable washer dryer combo from Kimo's. Kenmore and appeared to be in good shape. Minimal scratches or dents. Delivery to Altadena was reasonable at $30 and included hookup. Delivery man was kind and prompt. The items had a six months warranty. The washer did need a repair during that time. James had me describe the problem over the phone and decided that a new drain boot was needed. The first repair guy showed up without the part and said something about the other repair guy having it. Anyway, the second guy showed up in a couple of days and made a satisfactory repair. I liked their service. Used appliance places in LA are notorious for selling crap appliances and not providing good service. The units I purchased had obviously been refurbished. This is our second time going to Kimos. We are SOOO happy with our purchases. Our Whirlpool Washer and Dryer are still making my family very happy and we recently purchased a dishwasher from James. He didn't have the specific washer in stock that we needed when we originally bought our washer and dryer several months ago. I bought a fridge from their showroom. The moving/installation crew consisted of one able-bodied man and one elderly man who could barely lift the fridge. As a result the installation took forever and they scratched up my walls in the process. Once the fridge was put in place, it immediately ran into problems maintaining a consistent temperature. Kimo's sent a mechanic out to replace the motherboard. When the issue continued (thus confirming that the motherboard wasn't the faulty component) they... sent a mechanic out to replace the motherboard again. (...ok.) When that, unsurprisingly, didn't solve the problem, they sent the same moving crew of one able-bodied mover and one old man to remove the fridge for repairs. Upon removing the fridge, they not only scratched/dented/scuffed up my walls again but also damaged the handrail on my stairs. Eventually, I did receive a refund from Kimo's, but only after I signed paperwork assuring them that I wouldn't hold them liable for the damages to my property (it was the only way to get my money back.) I then went ahead and purchased a similar model from Sears Outlet. Sears sent a crew of three able-bodied movers, who were able to get a refrigerator of the same weight and dimensions into my kitchen without damaging my walls. Isn't it amazing what a difference a professional crew can make? All in all, Kimo's price was perhaps $200 cheaper than what I paid at Sears, but definitely not worth it when you consider the repeated damage they did to my walls and floors... plus, of course, the fact that the unit they installed was broken to begin with. read more

The brands they have there run from inexpensive to full on top notch. I decided to go with the middle of the pack Whirlpool.It was a nice unit, had some small nicks, and fit my kitchen space. The price was fair, and James gave me a discount because I paid cash. NICE. When I took delivery the tech was really careful with the unit. He had to take the handles off to fit it through the front door, which he did without grumbling.The fridge went in without any damage to my floor or walls. I had a positive experience with Kimo's. I was referred to this place by a good friend. I was in the area and decided to see what they had to offer. I wasn't interested in buying, I was only browsing and I made that very clear to the sales guy Angel. They are what they say they are..."like new" but not new. Most look great. Yeah there are some dings and scratches but nothing too obvious. It happened to be hot today and it was warm inside the place, but he comped for it. I wouldn't recommend buying a washer and dryer from this company. I bought them with delivery and installation and they were delivered the following day. The installer drilled holes in the side of the machine not using an installation kit. The minute we plugged in the washer it shorted out the house and the installer said it was our electrical and left. Had an electrician come out and that it was the cord and not the house. Waited 2 days for a repair man to come out.... repair man says installer did everything wrong and damaged the machine but he said it was fixed. He left and then it gave me an error code had to wait until Saturday to have someone else come out. They ended up taking the unit to repair and promised by 3:00 it would be fixed and installed. At 4:25 they came and installed it promising it was working. Ran the first load same error code. Called to tell them it wasn't working..... the woman that answers the phones said I signed a no refunds contract and was very rude with attitude knowing all that has happened with this unit. Shady AF resale place. Prices on the website are only if you pay cash - which isn't clearly stated. Most places would be honest about it - eg: $700/10% if you pay cash. That is what a normal and respectful business owner should do. Further, they remove the manufacturer's sticker which identifies how old the piece is. I recently purchased a used dishwasher from this company for my house in LA, where I currently have tenants living and I live far away so I needed a company I could trust to purchase the item site-unseen and have a dependable company that could follow through. The first part of my experience was awesome but then when push-came-to-shove and they delivered my item, they fell through. See my pros and cons: Pros: -They have a good website and photos that list their appliances for sale. -They respond quickly to emails and phone calls -They have reasonable pricing on used appliances -They were quick to deliver! Cons: -They don't have a simple way to take a credit card over the phone. I understand the company is trying to cover itself by requiring photocopies of ID's and a picture of the CC but maybe invest in a Square system or Paypal to make payments easier for the consumer. It took hours to get them everything they needed. -The dishwasher hose was missing, so we learned that after the fact and were not notified of it at the time of purchase. -My biggest issue is poor communication: 1. They didn't tell me that I needed to uninstall the dishwasher in order for them to Haul-away. 2. They argued with me via email, not even a deserved conversation, that they told me to uninstall it. It's a "he-said , she-said" disagreement but in this case I dont remember him ever telling me this was required and I am a very detail oriented person. 3. When I tried to call to discuss it- they simply emailed and didnt even call to resolve the issue or offer an apology or a chance to fix it. I had to hire another company to take care of it. OK I'm giving Kimo's 4 stars within the context of what it is. It's like Craig's List with a store front. It isn't Sears. It isn't Best Buy or Fry's. Don't even try to compare them. You're not going to get Sears service at Kimo's prices. Their inventory is mostly scratch & dent, maybe some repo's, some open-box, discontinued stuff, and some stuff that comes on a truck from their vendor with no identified reason as to why it was there. Kimo's is good for people who are kind of handy, can install stuff themselves (they will install it but it's better if you can handle it), and are set up to yank out and return stuff if it doesn't work right. Kimo's would probably be an ideal place for a property manager / handy-man to upgrade appliances when tenants move out. That's the kind of place it is. For the most part, all you get is the machine. If you want instructions, warranty, etc., probably isn't gonna happen. Also, little piece-parts might be missing: kick plate, silverware basket, fabric softener dispenser insert, water / ice maker door grate, microwave mounting bracket... Be ready to procure that little stuff yourself and factor-in when making your deal. I bought a Samsung dishwasher for our condo and a Kenmore (LG) armoire refrigerator with the two lower freezer door roll-outs for our house. The refrigerator was a really good deal (about half what it would have cost at Sears), is beautiful and huge; perfect for what I needed. I'm delighted every time I open it. But I digress. It's easier to find this kind of high-end refrigerator in stainless. I wanted black,though, to go with my microwave, range, and dishwasher. Kimo's just happened to have exactly what I needed, on their sales floor. The dishwasher didn't work out so well. They had tested it, but apparently not throughout its entire cycle. It would start just fine, but abruptly quit after about 5 minutes. Once we installed it in our Torrance condo, Kimo's sent their repair guy, Adam, out to try to fix it. But after two good attempts, he was unable to. In the mean time, Kimo's hadn't gotten in anything else comparable so I couldn't exchange it. I ended up just returning it, and buying the condo's dishwasher somewhere else. Since Kimo's is such a little store, I was uncomfortable paying cash (equivalent). I used a credit card and it cost more but gave me peace of mind that I could do a charge-back if everything didn't turn out the way I expected. Just a side note. For the condo, I bought a super cool LG combination washer/dryer (no, not two units stacked together... one machine that washes your clothes, then dries them all in the same unit). I didn't buy it from Kimo's. I bought it off of Craig's list. But there's a reason I'm yapping about it so please be patient. These machines are all over the place in space-challenged Japan. But in roomy USA they're very hard to find. So I was thrilled to find one in The Valley for about 1/3 retail for the tiny condo. It powered up. It washed the clothes. But during the dry cycle, it sprayed water in again and said it was done with the clothes sitting in a puddle! It took some research, but I actually found out what the problem was, ordered a part from Sears appliance parts website, and Gary installed the part. Now the unit works great and we're extremely happy with it. I mention this because both it, and the dishwasher acted fine. At first. Whatever you do, if you buy something that isn't brand spankin' new under warranty, then be sure that you stand there and run it completely through its cycle BEFORE you pay for it and take it away. If the seller doesn't have the ability for you to do that, then run away. Even if Kimo's will take it back, it's too much of a PITA for an everyday buyer to uninstall a big unit like that and schlep it back to the store. Another thing. Make sure whatever you buy still has the factory model and serial number on that metallic plate on the inside of the machine. If it doesn't, it means that the manufacturer discontinued it. It also probably means the machine doesn't work right and you'll have a heck of a time getting parts when you don't have the machine's model number. Kimo's staff are very courteous and helpful. Their owner, James, actually told us about another place similar to them, which has higher-end stuff. We went there but returned to Kimo's to buy. Their repair guy is knowledgeable as well. Just remember they don't always have the same inventory. Make sure you're happy with your purchase and that it works completely, before leaving the store with it. read more

I found this place after a Google search of used appliance stores in the SFV. I looked at top loading washing machines since ours deceased itself quickly. I found one I liked and asked if it would fit in my SUV. I was reassured that it could. I came back later with my husband to only find out from the owner that washing machines cannot be loaded on their side. I would have arranged delivery but the front desk said earliest delivery time was a week. I was already without a washer for a week as we had attempted to fix ours. The reason for the 5 stars is, the owner was super flexible and said, I can deliver right now if you give me your home address. WOW! Impressive. He and one of his employees delivered the washer within 20 minutes and even took our disassembled washer with him. If I'm ever in need of a used/refurbished appliance this will be my first stop. I wish I could give 0 stars. This place has great employees, very kind and helpful but the manager is the most unprofessional and rude person I've ever spoke to. He, and I quote "is all about the business and making money" vs customer service. He WILL rip you off if you try to sell your appliances to him and he will quote you certain prices then change them last minute. He quoted me $75.00 each for my fridge and washer/dryer which were way underpriced then I went on CL and found someone else to buy the washer/dryer for a way more reasonable price and let him know that it would just be the fridge at pick up then he told me it went down to $50 and I said I was quoted for $75? And he replied "well I'm the manager and we don't need your fridge, it's a old model it will be hard to sell, you can try CL" just the tone and the way he spoke to me was completely rude and unprofessional, I was shocked to hear this from a MANAGER. I called him out on being rude and he did apologize at least. Then not even 24 hours later after they picked my fridge up, I got at least 30 calls on CL about my fridge And they wanted to buy it for the price I wanted and kimos has a 72hr period where they'll check out your appliance and make sure it's in working condition and I called the day after they picked it up to see if I could get it back in a couple days and I spoke to Juan (who had superb customer service skills that I appreciate) and he said yes of course it looks like they haven't done anything to it yet. So I called someone back from CL who was in dire need of a fridge (a single father) but then I got a call hours later from Juan apologizing that the manager said he already looked at it, put hours into cleaning it (HAHA WHAT A JOKE), and I already signed papers saying it was his property and he's not giving it back. Which first of all I'm not mad at what happened.. I DID sign papers, I know miscommunication happens, I know we all make mistakes, I work in customer service, we're all human but I know that cheapskate manager did not take a look at it, he's full of it and is all about the money. I know this review will not phase him but he needs to know and all his potential customers need to know that they deserve CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM HIM ESPECIALLY. He seriously needs to take a class on it because he lacks it terribly. All other employees (especially Juan) are exceptional and are the example of what it should be. The big boss needs to take notes from them. They arrived the day after I spoke with James. 4 stars for promptness. They did not have a thermometer to test the temperature inside the fridge, but it was ascertained that the refrigerator was at the right temperature because there was condensation inside. I was told to call them when the situation arose again, that there was nothing they could do for an intermittent problem, unless they actually I observed it firsthand during their visit. If you were to look up incompetence in an appliance dictionary, kimo's would be listed. I'll try be as fair as possible about their store but honestly these guys really jerked us around. We came in for a used fridge (which granted was at a great low price) and after looking around my fiancee and I found one we liked. Upon inspection we found it had a bit of a cockroach infestation, (One large one scuttling about) inside the fridge. We mentioned this to the sales girl and she promised they would have it cleaned out and taken care of. She also promised we could have it delivered the next day to our place. My fiancee took off a half day of work and waited for them, and no one showed, we didn't even get a phone call giving us an update. After waiting and waiting we finally called them and found out they were not going to deliver the fridge at all, since the delivery guy also spotted some roaches in the fridge and didn't want to deliver it in that condition. (Which we do appreciate).Apparently they didn't bother to clean it. Their store manager promised he would be getting a new shipment of fridges in the next day and would send us a photo of a comparable one, and once we approved it, he would have it delivered. Well over the next five days we had to continually CALL HIM, since he never once got back to us, and each day only had to say "Our inventory hasn't come in yet, but it should be in tomorrow". We were scheduled to have the new fridge delivered the following weekend, but there apparently was never any fridges ready. Please note we had already paid in advance for the fridge. Finally today we just walked into their storefront and confronted the manager, in person, which made us a little harder to blow off. He graciously refunded our credit card with no backpedaling. So overall I am grateful that they were at least honest in the end and didn't try to rip us off, but they certainly aren't capable of delivering on their promises, and their customer service is pretty lacking. I know with a place like Kimo's you kind of get what you pay for, but basic professionalism, and keeping your word/keeping the customer in the loop, shouldn't be a paid-for premium. read more

When the item was delivered the intake on the bottom of the refrigerator was FULL OF DIRT AND DOG HAIR. Obviously, the refrigerator was used and in someones home for a long time. I would not recommend or purchase from Kimo's again. After reading the owners response I felt compelled to set the story straight. First I would like to state that my review was completely honest in every way! The owner has neglected to address the DIRT and DOG HAIR issue I mentioned. My wife and I purchased a washer and dryer and a refrigerator about one year ago. Kimos has a wide range of affordable appliances that are refurbished or brand new. They delivered everything to our place 30 minutes from their store and installed them. A couple months later we had an issue with the washer. They sent a repair person out and fixed it. We have been very happy with this nice washer, and dryer. On the other hand, we have never been able to get ice out of the fridge. James the owner from Kimos has gone over and above sending over 5 different repairmen to try and fix it. After several months of failed attempts, we just accepted the ice maker wouldn't work. James just called us and said he got a brand new refrigerator and they replaced it at No Charge even though it has been a year. Wow! You don't get that kind of follow up very often these days.
