This was our first time in DC and from the time we entered the Kimpton we received excellent service. They stored out bags for us until our room was ready. The front desk employees were very sweet and helpful. They had free wine hour every night from 5-6 and had bikes to ride on a first come basis. We took advantage of that one our 2nd day. We got back late and missed wine hour..so we thought. The awesome staff poured us a glass to take to our room. Have nothing but positive things to say about the staff. Rooms were nice and clean. Bathroom is ok..tub and shower were a little small. Overall loved loved our stay here. read more

It was my first experience with a Kimpton Group hotel, and suffice it to say, we were both very "satisfied." The concierge took very good care of us, and the room service was outstanding. I stayed her last year on a trip to DC with my wife. It was her first time in DC, which is a city I visit often. Usually when I go to DC I am by myself and I stay with friends who live on the Hill. This time we needed a hotel room and this one seemed to get good reviews and was also very close to many of my friends' houses on Capital Hill. The hotel is within walking distance of many different things. It is close to the Capital and Senate buildings. It is steps from Union Station. Being close to Union station insures that you will never have a lack of transport; whether it is a taxi, the Metro, train, etc. read more

Exceptional hotel for business near Capitol Hill- ideal location walking distance to so many of the critical DC attractions. Bistro Bis, a lovely brasserie style casual French restaurant, is located inside hotel/ adjacent to lobby and they provide the room service including cheese from Artisinal in NYC! Rm 706 was large with a very comfortable bed, lustrous high thread count linens and a nice work space, not to mention free wifi and a $10 "Raid The Mini Bar" coupon as a Kimpton In Touch member. Hooray! Only Negatives? No view at all, my room looked in to an office building with lots of late night workers, so I felt like I had to keep blinds completely shut for privacy. Although food was very good, prices and delivery charge/ automatic gratuity for room service were fairly high. read more

Stayed here for our family vacation during fall break. At first we were not sure we were going to like it, since it seemed so far from The Mall. However, if you have kids, this is a great location. It is right next door to The Corner Bakery which is great. Also it is like 2 minutes from Union Station which is loaded with any fast food restaurant you might need along, with Walgreens which was great to get snacks and drinks for the room. There was always a cab in front of the hotel which got us to the locations that were further away. A one way trip from there to the Washington Monument was around $15 dollars including the tip. The staff was nice and helpful. We liked our room, and it was very clean. The bathroom was nice also. The hallways are painted a dark color which makes it seem gloomy. The only thing I did not like was the in-room cash bar and min fridge. I mean really. Who in their right mind is going to spend money on that crap. Take my advice: go to Walgreens for snacks and drinks, and use a cup with ice. All that stuff did was take up counter space, and believe me there is not any extra to go around. As for the wine and cheese time they advertise. Try wine and popcorn. One word for it: weak. If you want to see a real wine and cheese time, go to The Pearl in NYC. They have it going on. If I ever go back to DC, which is doubtful, too dirty and too many homeless people, I would stay at this hotel again. read more

Stayed at The George while on a quick trip to see the sites with my son. Great experience!! We arrived early and were able to leave our bags at the front desk without a problem. When we asked about the closest bike share station, they told us they had complimentary loan bikes! When we checked back in later that evening, everything was ready for us. We got directions to a pharmacy and the room was very nice. My only gripe would be the room was a touch on the small side. Check out was a breeze too. We didn't try the attached restaurant but it looked nice. Jasmyn and Johnny deserve special mention, they were both very helpful and super friendly. Well done! read more

Not impressed, by George. I was pleased to get a good rate at the George Hotel at the last minute, especially since it was perfectly situated for business I had around near the Capitol. But my overall experience left me wanting - a lot. The room was sizable, but I am not a fan of hard mattresses. Also, the room had one of those infamous "east coast" air conditioners that sounds like a Panzer tank! So loud in fact, that I had to turn it off to be able to go to sleep. And my room was situated across from the ice maker, so that beast was clunking 24/7. And to add to my luck, the room was close to one of the cleaning staff closets, so staff was going in and out of that at all hours. The carpet was very dirty when I arrived, and to their credit they sent staff to clean it immediately. However, the decided to wax the bathroom floor at the same time without telling me, and I almost tripped first time in there. The first morning there my key would not work. I decided to spend an extra night in DC -- the night staff said they would give me the same rate as I had gotten online; next morning I called the morning desk to confirm, and he insisted on charging me a higher rate. I eventually got him back down to the online rate, but it was an unnecessary hassle. The hotel on the whole is classic Kimpton: sleek, trendy, artsy. I for one wish they would spend less on leopard skin bathrobes and more on cleanliness and comfort. But that is a matter of taste, I guess. read more

If you have a dog this hotel is a must stay! They prep especially for your dogs needs via an email questionnaire. Had dog bowl and a dog bed waiting in the room. All of the staff knows to treat your dog just like family. They have a treat jar from which every staff member will try and shower your pet with. The rooms are perfect. The added mini bar with snacks and drinks is great. They even sent up a bottle of champagne and a cupcake for my gf's birthday. PS: Join their Kimpton club. It's free and you get the added benefit of free wifi and a 10 dollar raid the mini bar credit. read more

Nice boutique hotel centrally located to the Capitol, Union Station and a reasonable walk to all of the other museums, the White House, etc. the staff was friendly, the rooms are a nice size and the rate we got was excellent. The place to stay on Capitol Hill or in walking distance to Union Station. The George stands out among it's peers of large, tourist class hotels on the Hill. If you want business class, this is your best bet. I truly enjoy the professional, welcoming, and attentive staff at The George. You get the feeling that they like their job and their employer and it shows. They are helpful to event managers and tourists alike. I have hosted several events here and Tony (the events manager) does them efficiently and personally. He has a great restaurant, Bistro Bis, to draw from for catering. You'll get a personalized and delectable menu that is a head above the rest. I couldnt even talk about The George absent of Bistro Bis. The connected restaurant is a bustling establishment that I liken to an Apres-Ski spot. A great place to catch drinks and excellent food after coming off "The Hill." For tourists, if you can afford the rather pricey accomodations it will be well worth it. If you sneak a peak at the events menu for the day you'll be able to cross paths with all of the Washington power-players as they host breakfasts, luncheons and dinners in the mezzanine. The rooms are comfortable with lots of amenities. A staple of Kimpton Hotels: be sure to take advantage of the complementary wine tastings in the early evenings. read more

Just completed a 5 night stay and I am (as usual) very, very pleased with all things Kimpton.. Very close walk from Union station; The property is clean; with the usual incredible service and friendliness from all of the Kimpton staffers. Bed was comfortable; and they had the down pillows per my preference... And; again...per Kimpton, the always appreciated free WiFi and hosted wine happy hour were in place... One thing about this property; is that they do not own the restaurant. So , per contract, the HH is only M-F. On Saturday I arrived back from a *long* day at a conference; and when I saw that the HH was not available; I began some good natured whining about that. The evening manager, Shauntel, promptly sent me up a bottle of wine. Definitely the Kimpton touch!!! One minor complaint...because they do not have their own kitchen...there is no 24 hour room service. For this night owl...that was a bit of a bummer. If ya need chow in the middle of the night...just make sure you have some snacks in the room... EASY, easy walk to everything, the Mall, the Memorials and Museums.. The Hotel George is in a great location right next to Union Station and walking distance to the sites in the area. The decor is so much fun! I loved how everything stuck to the George Washington theme, but with a modern twist. Beds and bedrooms were quite comfortable and clean. I enjoyed them... and the zebra and cheetah robes for your use in the closet. I was unhappy with how expensive parking was... but I feel like that is everywhere in DC, so I guess I shouldn't complain or dwell in that. The free wine in the evening is a nice touch. It is great to have a place who still offers some of the niceties that others bow forego. Overall, I say go! Great for groups and blocking off rooms! read more

Really enjoyed this hotel from the wonderful foyer to the quaint but comfortable room. The amenties were superb and loved the fashionable bathrobes, there fitness center yes small but great its 24 hours with plenty of headphones, fruit and cool towels for after the steam room! The staff was exceptional and very helpful! My room didn't offer microwave and only fridge was mini bar which I decided not to get the key for did not want to be tempted :) I was only staying for a night, however if longer would have needed a microwave and such! I truly appciated the ihome, hooked my phone up and was set! I also enjoyed the mint body wash was great. Their prices are standard for this area in dc, I paid a fraction of the price at priceline and recieved a standard queen room! I will be returning! read more

I stayed here for business last week and paid $450 for the rom. Seriously? They were sold out -- so commanded over the moon rates. Def not worth the price. I like Kimpton hotels, and would have been happy here at ~$250 a night. The room service food was good, but also mega expensive. Although our entire stay at the Hotel George was fabulous, the highlight was the hot toddies made by Michael Love during wine hour. Michael, who used to be a bar tender, made the spiced bourbon himself! He mixed that delicious concoction with hot cider and topped the glass with a huge dollop of freshly whipped cream, sprinkled with cinnamon. We are going back to the Hotel George this Friday evening and I plan on having a few more of his delicious hot toddies! The hotel staff is wonderful and our room was spacious and spotless. We parked out front for no fee in metered parking after 6:30 PM. Union Station, which is located within a short walking distance, offers a huge selection of restaurants. Union Station is a beautiful historic building and a destination in itself. Go there for a fabulous time! Stayed 2 nights here. Staff was amazing. So friendly and accommodating especially Benjamin. We took our 118 lb pitbull. They welcomed him with no additional fees/breed restrictions which was AWESOME! Valet cost $60 a day. (Website said $49) but we opted to park in garage across the street. It closes from midnight to 6am but we paid much less for parking. ($78 total for 3 days of parking-2 overnights and in and out driving throughout the day/evening) overnight cost us $27 and they have a flat rate of $12 for weekends/evenings. So I personally wouldnt recommend Valet. Bistro Bis staff was so great! Especially the bartender. We didnt get his name but was such a fun friendly guy to chat with and made a great old fashion for my husband and sweet tea for me. I recommend the bar. Food was a bit pricey and steak tartar wasnt my favorite but they make a DELICIOUS burger!! Hotel room was okay. Nothing to talk about. Just your standard room. I liked that they had a pullout couch so my bickering kids didnt have to share a bed. Lol. One downfall was a lot of homeless people in the streets right around hotel. Kind of sketchy and scary taking my dog out at 2am to pee. Especially after one of the homeless guys told my 16 year old son that he "could rob a lot of people with a dog that big" while we were unloading our bags from car. Overall we had a great experience and I would recommend to people traveling with pets. read more

Brian at the desk was fantastic! Trash removal trucks will shake your entire mind at 5:14 am! It took 6 hrs for the a/c to cool the room down from 78 degrees to 73, and the coffee is terrible! It's decorated quite nicely, but for some reason it just felt like a colorful motel 6. The restaurant Bistro Bis is attached, and privately owned. It caught me by huge surprise, it was actually amazing! read more

A very nice, clean place to stay in Washington, D.C. It's not located in the poshest of neighborhoods, but it is VERY close to Union Station. The staff is beyond courteous--willing to go out of their way to make your visit pleasant. They held on to our bags after checkout, had toothpaste when we had forgotten ours, and let us check in hours early with no charge. The room was nice. Actually, very nice. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were well appointed. I'm not sure how Kimpton does it, especially considering the price we paid for our room. I would stay at the George again without hesitation. read more

We booked 3 nights here through Hotwire for a visit to see daughter who was interning in DC and staying on Capitol Hill. While the hotel was convenient to Union Station and Metro, it was far from many restaurants and attractions we wanted to visit, such as the Chinatown/Gallery area and Dupont Circle. The hotel itself was a very good value for the price paid. We had 3 adults in a room with king bed. A roll away was provided for daughter and there was ample room. The bathroom was very nice, with a separate tub and glass enclosed shower stall. The vanity was long, but very narrow. I missed having something close by to grab a breakfast pastry but at least there was in room coffee. Do sign up for the Kimpton rewards program in advance as you receive free Internet and $10 credit for mini bar. Prices for mini bar weren't bad anyway but free chocolate is even better! read more

Love this hotel! My husband and I went to the Dave Matthews Band concert at Nationals Park on Friday night and we stayed at Hotel George. Our room was huge compared to any New York City hotel we've stayed in and it was really clean. We paid $179 for a Friday night, which I thought was great for a city hotel. The location is fabulous. If you're going to see a concert or a game at Nats Park, it's a $10 cab ride. You could also Metro, but there was no way I was Metro-ing in 100 degree heat :) Hotel George gave us a $10 Starbucks gift card and a $10 credit for our Mini Bar at check-in. We ordered room service for dinner on Friday while we were getting ready and breakfast on Saturday morning. The food was really good. The only complaint I have is that you apparently have to ask for condiments. I have to mention that I really like that they have these big bottles of shampoo and conditioner because I have really thick hair and I could go through like 10 of those small bottles that hotels usually give you. There is a parking garage directly across from the hotel that is $20 a night. You should just park there because the hotel will charge you $40 a day for valet parking. Overall, this was a really great stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. It's a pet friendly hotel also! read more

What I love most is a small boutique hotel, so room service doesn't take long at all. There's a bar and restaurant downstairs and the food is excellent. I attended a meeting here last year and have enjoyed the restaurant a couple of times in the past, but since I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member, have always stayed at the Capital Hilton when I visit DC. I decided to give the Hotel George a try this week and am so glad I did! Great service from the front desk clerks (who gave knowledgable and helpful recommendations regarding the local area), the room was well appointed and immaculate, and the breakfasts were excellent. **First off, I have only stayed at one Kimpton (vero beach spa) prior, which I give 5 stars. ** The Hotel George is located in a nice area, approximately one block from the US Capitol building. Staff was friendly. I paid $320 for a one night stay. The room I stayed in was very small (Deluxe King Room w/ sofa sleeper Room 220). The room was clean. The view was terrible. The hotel is crammed between other buildings, therefore, when I looked out the window from my room, I was staring directly at a brick building. There was some type of HVAC compressor behind the wall, which made a loud humming noise and an even louder popping noise when it turned off. As a result, I slept like crap. I didn't eat at the restaurant, so I cannot comment about that. Parking for valet is around $55. I parked in the garage across the street for $27. It was nice to walk out of the hotel and be right next to the national mall area. All in all, definitely not worth the price and I will not stay there again. I recently stayed overnight as I was looking for something in the central DC area that was pet friendly. The hotel was in a great location. Rooms were cleaned and beautifully decorated. I actually left my bracelet there and didn't realize until after checkout when I was 3 hours away . The staff was extremely helpful and sent my bracelet the me via mail. The front door staff was extremely helpful and courteous, even lending us umbrellas during our rainy visit. Any request made to any staff member was met with immediate service. What really sets this property apart is the staff. Every staff member we encountered during our stay was polite, friendly, and genuinely concerned with the needs of the guests. It is refreshing to find so many happy faces at every turn ready to please. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you are treated like royalty. There are nice touches like the modern artwork, George the Goldfish at the front desk, and great bathroom amenities and a nice assortment of mini-bar options. The gym facilities were perfect, they seem to have thought of everything, including clean ear phones, chilled towels, and they even had HULA HOOPS! The restaurants were exceptional, great brunch menu. Terrific and unique dishes enhanced by fabulous service. I highly recommend staying at this adorable boutique hotel. Outstanding value and service. Just love the attitude of the whole place. Convenient and helpful staff with a great location. You can easily walk, bike, or take the metro anywhere you need. The hotel has bikes to lend to guests wanting to bike around, but the fleet is small so they go quickly...which led me to use Capital Bikeshare. the atmosphere is great--comfortable, cool, and contemporary. Well designed. while my food order had acceptable taste, While the steak tartar had interesting and flavorful ingredients,the steak was very fatty, not lean at all the way tartar should be. Similarly, the tuna nicoise was inclusive of wonderful flavorings, but the key element--the tuna--was medium rare at best and way over-seared. I'd return because the staff was good and ambiance quite nice, but be careful to give preferences on how much searing you want, and for sure, the fat-level of the tartar. read more

My husband stayed at the George on a business trip recently and was extremely satisfied with his stay. It was convenient to every place he needed to get. Most importantly, he was very pleased with the mattress on his bed and claims it's one of the best he has slept on. I would love to know the make of the mattress so I can buy one for our bed -- seriously, the man is not given to waxing poetic about hotel beds so it must be special! update: called the main number to inquire and the woman who answered could not have been more helpful.
