I adore the business at Kim's Fashion Design. For background, I had an upcoming business trip and needed suit alterations within the week. My suit had just arrived at a different location and they recommended I see Ms. Kim at Copley Place. As soon as I picked up my suit, I went over and explained my situation. For reference, I am a small individual and suits off the rack are ill-fitting. I bought a 36S (jacket) and 28x37 so I definitely need customizing in my suits. Ms. Kim listened to my story and went to work. Master of her craft, she knew exactly what to alter and marked every corner that needed attention on the suit. I tried to do dry cleaning the week before my wedding and called around and wasn't able to find a place that could turn around in time. Kim offered that service too and had my wedding gown cleaned. do not waste your time!! destroyed my burberry skirt and ripped me off!!i dropped off a brand new burberry skirt fesh out if the box , and i needed simple alterations ( taken on at the wait and shortened). the owner advised that it would take about a week and i asked me what day i needed the item back by (which was exactly a week to the day -as i needed the item to take on holiday). when i called for pock up kim confirmed a time to pick up i got there and she made me wait 2 hours to make the adjustments and had me try in the item numerous times in between. she startes qorkong on my piece the same day. as a result she destroyed my skirt beyond repair and did such a poor sloppy job! and still charged me $150 after waiting my tome and desteoyinh my item do not go here find someone who repects your time and your quality pieces. read more

Kim has honed her craft of tailoring, and it comes through clearly in her finished work. I had a custom chipao made by a different seamstress 13 years ago that needed tailoring - top brought in and hips taken out. Kim assessed the situation, quoted a price and worked tirelessly to ensure that the dress looked absolutely perfect for my wedding. In the end, the dress fit like a second skin, and the red/gold tones caught the light with every twist and turn on the dance floor. I had several fittings (~4) through out the month long tailoring process. With each proposed change, I came back for a fitting before anything was finalized. Inevitably, when one part is changed, other unforeseen changes are needed, and Kim kindly addressed all of those small issues. She even reconstructed the top opening, so the taking on/off process was much more efficient and the chest snap buttons would remain secure. She also carefully re-burned the silk to ensure any fuzzy bits were removed, which also revitalized the colors, making them more saturated and robust. Kim is extremely hard working and has a lot on her plate. She tailors many pieces for the high end shops in Copley. Make sure to clearly layout the event date or an expected date that the piece is needed, so she can work with her team to make sure the deadline is met. Kim is very meticulous, a trait highly sought after in tailors, so it takes time to complete the tailoring needs. My boyfriend dropped off a suit 3 weeks before we needed a suit jacket and pants for a wedding. Kim did not have the alterations done in the time she promised and asked us to return after closing hours because she was still working on it. My wedding dress was stained and damaged! I say this because I wish I had read the reviews prior to going in. In my opinion, based on my experience, Kim of Kim's fashion ruined my wedding dress. Besides being a very expensive dress, it has a lot of sentimental value. I asked Kim, after my wedding to have her shorten my dress so I can wear it again. While doing so, she said I can also dry clean the dress if I wanted to and that she would give me a good deal. I didn't see the need to dry clean it but since she gave me such a good deal why not have a fresh dress? I told her I'm leaving May 24th 2019 for my honeymoon. In a few weeks she was not able to deliver the promised services as agreed upon until last minute. I felt as though she kept delaying me every time I would call in to see if it is done, she would ask me to come in and try my dress numerous times without much change at times. May 29, half hour before I had to leave for my flight I was able to pick up my dress, leaving me no time to try it on or check the dress. When I picked up the dress, it was covered not in a clear plastic bag like a typical dry cleaning bag, but an opaque garment bag so I couldn't see what it looked like. I paid her and ran out since I was late for my flight. She charged me for the tailoring and dry cleaning. Once I got to my destination, I took the dress out to pack it and what I discovered was truly disappointing, frightening and extremely sad.. my dress looked disgustingly dirty. What happened to it? Not only this but a lot of the expensive beading was missing - an indicator that Kim's fashion did not handle this dress with care in my opinion. While I was away, my friend's custom pants that Kim's Fashion custom made ripped on his wedding night during his first dance at the crotch area. I returned to Kim to simply ask her - what happened to my dress? She never answered my questions. She called me a liar and told me "I wore the dress, stained it and now I blame her." And told me that she can send it back to her dry cleaning (the same ones that were used before). Another woman named Donna who tried pretending that she worked at a law office; (she actually works in Kim's office)... jumped in and said that "if the dress is not fixed on the second try, we will see you in court". When you hear this - would you give your most valuable dress back in their hands? Kim called me a "white ghost, a liar, and told me that she has lawyers to deal with me." I walked out with a stained dress and no apology from this business. Unfortunately, we only settled on no alteration charge for another dress. This was a terrible experience. I bought two suits from suit supply and needed tailoring quicker than their in house could provide, so they recommended me to Kim's. I was provided with a Thursday pick up date, and upon arriving said it wasn't ready and they meant to call me. I went back the next day 30 minutes after they told me to come in only to be told they would drop it off that night. The night passed with no drop off, until the next day they dropped it off at 2pm. The first time I wore one of the suits their is a huge rip in the crotch area. This was the most terrible experience I've ever had. 2 suits, over 600 dollars, with some of the work I am convinced they didn't even do. Avoid at all costs. read more

I have no doubt about Kim's professional expertise. However, they lost my pants and skirt! I went to their store twice. The first time they told me that my stuff would be ready on that day but when I got there at ~5 pm she said it was not ready until 6pm so we left. The second time I went there, they could not find my stuff at all and they did not show any apologies to me. I was told that they would send me my stuff once they found them but they never did. I called Kim multiple times and every time she said she would call me back in an hour but she never did. Kim is the worst. Can't believe people like that even exist. Lies straight to your face, no shame, no decency, she is really terrible. I was looking for a qipao for my wedding, and stumbled upon her place. She over promises and under delivers, every time I'd come in for a scheduled fitting, she has nothing done and asks me if I can walk around the mall for a few hours so she can do it. I don't have time to walk around the mall for 3 hours every time I go in to my apt with you! I had to go there 4 times!! 2 of the times she wasn't ready at all and I simply had to come back. I described the dress I wanted, and she pretended she was going to make my dress from scratch, until I caught her in a lie. She was actually just going to alter a dress that she already owns which exactly as I wanted, but said she would order new material and make it - just to charge me the much higher price. Busted. So much BS. She kept delaying everything although a month before my wedding she promised me that it would be done in time and I can pick it up one week before the wedding. One week before the wedding I'm freaking out because every day she promises and the next day she tells me that something else happened and then it's going to be another day. Two days before the wedding I insisted I'm just picking up whatever she did to the dress. So many things were not done properly, and somethings were not done at all, although just a day or two before she told me they would be done. And she had no shame about not having these things done, just justifies it to her self and she doesn't care at all about what she promised me, what I paid for and the fact that I pretty much don't have options right now is my wedding is in two days. I even asked my mother-in-law to go in with me, hoping that there is some cultural language barrier that's preventing me from figuring out what the hell is going on here. But my mother-in-law was just as shocked and taken aback by that unprofessional sleazeball that Kim is. Kim wanted me to come back the next day actually, which would be the day before the wedding, to pick it up. Because she wanted to give it to get dry cleaned. It definitely looked like it wasn't cleaned after the last person that it was rented by, and on top of that everybody that I tried it on. I had so little trust in Kim that I did not want to prolong it another day and not having a dress for my wedding. I told her to skip the dry cleaning and I will just take it as is. I asked her if I can have reimbursement for the dry cleaning. She said no- the dry cleaning is only about $10. So, not cleaned for me because she dragged it out to last minute! Guess who had to hand wash somebody else's nastiness at home day before the wedding? And every time I came in for a fitting, this woman had the decency to tell me to send a wedding picture to her so that she can post on the website and also asked me to write a yelp review every time to help her business. How can you play mind games and then ask people to walk around the mall for a few hours every single time I come in, and then ask for a picture in a good review? She's a terrible little thing. My whole family is traumatized by this Kim. If anyone's reading this and considering being Kim's competition for Chinese wear, please let me know and I will bring much business to you. Update on July 2018: I recently found that Grandasia in Quincy has very nice options, they sell various Chinese wedding wear, and can alter. Wonderful options and service. Kim designed a Chinese dress (qip ao) for my wedding in August and it turned out beautifully. My mother and I loved working with Kim, who was very kind to us. We brought our own cloth and were quoted $450 for the labor, which we thought was a fair price for a custom-made dress. I drew out the design with a specific neckline that was different than that of a traditional qi pao and she got my design immediately. My mother also had her own design ideas and Kim was very patient with her. I should note that we went to Kim three months ahead of time - in May for a wedding at the end of August, so time was not an issue for an issue for us. Kim measured me and created a prototype for me in July, refitted me and sewed on Chinese buttons as my mother requested. We didn't need to get the dress a week early since we trusted her - we were fine with picking the dress the Thursday before the Saturday wedding. Since we were rushing to pick up the dress a few days before the wedding and running around with last minute tasks, Kim kindly offered to drop the gown off at our house, which was near her house in Boston. Some of the other reviewers experienced some difficulty with Kim. I think that some of those difficulties arose because they had shorter timelines for gown completion. Since Kim is a business woman who has to pay expensive rent to pay for her store in the Copley Mall, I can see why she would prefer brides to buy the dresses from her rather than to rent them. In general, we thought that Kim was a smart business woman, but didn't feel like she was charging us an unfair price. The gown fit beautifully and we can tell that Kim made it with love. I am not one to write reviews, however I have never seen a business owner treat customers so poorly and offer false promises. I came to Kim after a recommendation and was sorely disappointed with the experience. After telling her I needed an alteration done in a week, she told me that it was plenty of time to get the job done. After she finished taking in the dress she tried to upcharge me $80 more than what was listed on her website. After telling her I would be able to pay in cash, she dropped the rate to what was listed on her website. One day before I was meant to come pick up the dress, I called the store to ask what time I should come by the next day to pick up the dress. They said they would call back in 10 minutes. I waited 30 minutes, no response. I called again after 30 minutes and no one picked up the phone. I called again 3 hours later and I got the same response-- they would call back in 10 minutes. When I didn't hear back from them 40 minutes later, I called them and they said the dress would be ready between 3-4pm. Come the day to pick up the dress, I arrive at 5:15- an hour after they said the dress would be ready-- and it was not even started! They said to come back tomorrow but I don't have that time to waste, so Kim said to come again in an hour. One hour passes and she says to sit down. I see she goes to the back and they had not even begun within that one hour timeframe! Only now have they started to work on the dress. I am incredibly disappointed with the lies and manipulation Kim uses on her patrons. I have wasted so much more time than I have anticipated and I can't get that back now. While the dress was hemmed to the appropriate length, I was unhappy with the ways the straps turned out. We went back and forth to try to get it don't but I couldn't sit in her shop for more than four hours-- ridiculous! Kim really went out of her way to make sure that the qipao I rented from her was perfect. When the first fitting wasn't close, she worked so hard to make sure that I could come back in a few hours to see if the new changes made were better - to fit the waist and hips perfectly, and make sure I could also sit down to eat (!) in it. In all I probably came in for five or six fittings and the dress came out perfect - I'd have definitely bought it if I thought I could wear a red qipao again. Took 2 pairs of pants to have the length hemmed and leg(below the waist) tapered. Total cost: $90. Call the morning I was supposed to pick them up and they say they are ready. Get there 7 hours later and I discover they haven't started. I sit there for almost 90 minutes while she does the work. Doesn't actually hem 1 pair(told me to bring back). A week later I notice she took out the leg seam all the way to the hip and didn't replace the section of classic gold thread jeans have. That was one of the reasons I like them. I had high hopes for this place since Intimacy bra shop upstairs in Copley raved about Kim's ability to tailor bras and swimwear. I brought in 2 bras that I wanted taken in and the straps shortened and a bathing suit top that I wanted a fabric panel added to. After being fitted, I left the garments and came back a week later. Tried the bras on -- they still needed more adjusting, which was fine, I wasn't in a hurry to get them back. The bathing suit top had a panel pinned in, but not sewn. I assume Kim wanted me to try it again before she sewed it. I left not entirely confident that the fabric she used was waterproof and not sure the bathing suit top was salvageable. I returned yesterday -- now well over a month from when I first came in -- and Kim wasn't there. The woman covering the store found my stuff, but the bathing suit top was still not finished! Kim was due back soon, though, and I was assured it would be taken care of ASAP. So I killed some time in the mall and returned an hour later. Everything appeared to be fine/finished, so I left. This morning, I tried on the bathing suit top and either something came unsewn or unpinned because the strap broke. And there was still a pin in it. So I don't know what happened, but there were still pins in the garment and I'm just lucky I didn't hurt myself! I'm going back today, which is annoying, to see what can be done. I paid $40 for her to fix this suit, so I'm very frustrated. It took way too long, and $40 to crudely stitch in a triangle of fabric seems exorbitant. read more
