Kim's Korean BBQ offers some very delicious food, with a couple of highlights and minor quirks that make it stand out. We ordered the squid stir fry and pork ribs, and the flavors were great, but there were some differences in the dishes. Squid stir fry: This dish was incredible--definitely the best in Jacksonville. The squid was tender and perfectly cooked, not chewy at all. The stir fry had an amazing balance of spices, and there were no fillers like rice cakes or too many vegetables drowning out the squid's flavor. The dish was packed with flavor, and each bite was a combination of savory, spicy, and a slight sweetness that complemented the seafood perfectly. It was the standout dish of the meal and one I'll definitely be coming back for. Pork ribs: While the ribs were tender, they were too sweet for my liking, and the flavor felt a bit one-dimensional. The sauce was heavy on the sweetness, which made the ribs feel a little cloying after a while. They could benefit from a bit more balance with some acidity or spice. In terms of portions, Kim's Korean BBQ is generous. The rice comes in a half bowl, so you'll need to order more if you're craving extra, and the Bonchon (fried chicken) is only available with a full meal or as an additional charge, which is something to keep in mind. The prices are on the pricier side, especially when compared to other Korean places in town, but the taste and authenticity make it worth it. The owners are Korean and will speak to you in Korean if you're comfortable with the language. The staffing was a little overwhelmed, as the lady owner seemed to be doing most of the work, and at one point, you could hear her directing her husband at the register to assist with various tasks. This led to a bit of a longer wait for the food, but it was understandable given that they were a bit understaffed. One thing I really appreciated was the cleanliness of the place. Kim's is one of the cleaner Korean restaurants in the area, which is always a plus. Despite the staffing hiccups and the slightly sweet pork ribs, the overall experience was great. I'll definitely be coming back for that squid stir fry and to try more of their authentic dishes!

This was our first visit and we had a great time. The staff was delightful and pleasant and helpful I can't say that I'm an expert but I do know I'll go back and try more things. 10/10

    Banchan is top notch

As someone who has grew up with Korean food and eaten in some of the better restaurants in K-Town, LA, I didn't expect to find quality + delicious + fresh Korean food in Jacksonville but I found it today. I highly recommend the Japchae (they do this really well), Mandu Duk Guk (Dumpling rice cake soup), and the ban chan (side dishes) are great! The restaurant has a homey and clean feel to it and the owners are very sweet. If you're looking to try Korean food, this is one of 2 places I've been to that I would recommend in Jacksonville.

Visited here for dinner on a Saturday. Ordered the Spicy squid with veggies and it was made very well. Not too chewy, with perfect about of Korean spice. The spicy pork ribs were a bit too sweet for me but the meat was very tender and came off the bone very easily. They provided a various amount of banchan (side dishes) and provided us with more kimchi when requested. Decent service but they seemed a little short staffed. The restaurant is fairly large and can accommodate a lot of people. I would come again to try other dishes! Good quality food here.

Mrs Kim is a hoot! She is friendly, inviting and very interesting to talk to. Her husband is friendly and welcoming as well. The yakimandeu appetizer is delicious. I had my favorite, Dol Sot Bibimbop, it was piping hot and the bibimbop sauce was spot on. Spouse got the pork bulgogi, he said it was delicious. There were so many banchans and all were fresh and delicious. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in Jacksonville. The restaurant is clean and spacious, the tables are not too close so one doesn't feel crowded. We had so much fun talking to Mrs Kim that I forgot to take a photo of our entrees.

This was my first time at Kim's Korean BBQ. My husband chose it as his birthday dinner spot so we called in to make sure they didn't require any reservations (they did not require it). We were seated quickly but service was a bit chaotic. It appeared that only 2 people were working on a Friday so things were delayed a bit. Appetizers and drinks were put in first but then we got our banchan before we even ordered our entrees. Owner took notice finally and asked if we ordered entrees, we said no and finally got to put our order in. Entrees came out hot and very tasty so the food made up for the wait. However, prices felt steep for the size of the entree. The owners are nice and funny. Mama Kim let us store and serve our own birthday cake, no extra cost which was very nice of her. The restaurant is clean and feels authentic. They play Korean music and it looks like they do karaoke some nights so seems like a cool place!

The great banchan! A variety of small dishes of great things to try!

Like many of you, I'm sure, I've gone down the Instagram rabbit hole many times watching various and odd video clips. But it's not just cats crashing Christmas trees and guys burping and hitting their heads in garage doors. Not too long ago I started watching videos of people eating various wonderful looking foods in Korea. And I wanted to try that food! To sate my Korean food craving, my wife, her dad and I ventured over to Kim's Korean BBQ restaurant in Mandarin. Although a bit of a hike from the beach, it was well worth it and I would highly recommend this restaurant! The restaurant itself is pretty big and very clean! Posters adorn the walls and what looked like K-pop was playing on the tv. Everyone was super friendly and Kim (well I assume it was Kim) told funny stories to the entire room of diners! We ordered a lot, but everything looked so good and I wanted to try it all!! For appetizers we got a small order of Japchae - small glass noodles with beef and vegetables, and Haemool Pa Jeon - a pancake filled with seafood and green onions. Both were awesome. The Japchae noodles were sweet and the meat was very tender. The seafood pancake was fluffy and the various seafood, including squid, added a nice texture. In addition all tables get some banchan - little bowls of pickled vegetables, kimchi, green bean, broccoli and lots of other dishes. All were excellent and included a variety of flavors like sweet, vinegar and sour. For main courses we ordered the Dol Sot Bibimbap - rice with meat, vegetables and an egg served in a super hot pot, Galbisal - marinated short rib beef with onions, and Dak Gangjeong - basically a mild Korean fried chicken with onions and peppers. All were excellent. I think we enjoyed the Korean fried chicken the most. Super crunchy with a great sauce that worked well with the breading on the chicken. My wife loves bibimbap, especially when the rice gets really crunchy on the bottom. The surprise was the Galbisal. The meat was super tender and I thought the marinade on it was excellent. We took a lot home, but felt that our dishes gave us a great variety of different Korean food to try. Of course they have a selection of soups and stews that also look awesome that I will definitely need to come back and try. But first, while I still digest from my great meal at Kim's, I'm gonna watch a few hours of mindless videos!

This was my first time at Kim's Korean BBQ and it was so Korean deliciousness! There were 24 of us who got together before our final Korean class and Kim's was the recommendation of our teacher. Our order was placed and came out quickly, it started with appetizers, banchan(several Korean veggies),the kimchi cucumber was the bomb! As an appetizer we tried the Mandu (Korean style beef & veggie dumplings) and Kimchi Jeon (kimchi pancake w/kimchi, onions and green onions)...talk about flavor! The kimchi Jeon was popping with flavor and could've been our meal but it was shared among everyone; you definitely need to try it when you go! For our meal, my mom and I, we ordered the bulgogi deobbap (marinated grilled beef) and ojingeo bokkeum (spicy stir fried squid). We both loved our entrees and definitely needed a to go box. Those in our party said their meal was flavorful and those who had the spicy dishes said it wasn't that spicy, it just enhances the flavor. If you're looking for original Korean flavor Kim's needs to be added to your list. It also has the Korean BBQ style where you can cook at your table.

Went here Sunday for lunch with my friends. It is located in San Jose with the shopping center and they are at the end of it. Plenty of space for parking. Food was good but not great, I have been to many Korean bbq place and what they offer was just not what I was expecting. I got the bulgogi and for me it was a little disappointing especially with the price of it of $24.99, the bulgogi came with the steamed rice and that was about it, for me it just wasn't as bbq'd as I was hoping for , so with that price for lunch it was a bit overpriced for me especially for the lunch menu. I also ordered the japchae which was really good! to be honest I will be happy if I just ordered the japchae. Also when you order it comes with the Korean food sides which was pretty cool! I enjoyed trying different sides. Customer service was good! there 's 2 Korean ladies working and they are both very friendly.

Tofu and veges. So much tofu, well seasoned.

I went with three other ladies from work, for dinner. None of us were familiar with the menu and our waitress was super helpful. We all got different things, and we're delighted with every dish.

We came in on a Wednesday evening. We asked about the menu and were told at the counter that it was Wing Wednesday and the wings were $1 each. Well how could we not add those onto our order. We ordered a Burnt Ends platter with mac and cheese, and corn nuggets, a Brisket Platter with corn nuggets and beans. We also ordered a large mac for my son and a side of lean brisket. For the wings we ordered the Cajun ranch. Our food started coming out in about 5 minutes. Firstly, I was shocked at the wings. I love wings, but they aren't something I usually order often as I find them just OK. There are only a couple places that I visit specifically for wings. Well, let me tell you, I would make a visit back just for these wings. OMG, the Cajun ranch was simply amazing, really addictive. They were my favorite item. We devoured them. The burnt ends were very good. I appreciate they are big chunks of brisket with no pull pork filler. The flavor was amazing as well and the bits of fat melted in our mouth. The corn nuggets were fine and the Mac N Cheese was quite tasty. We enjoyed the meal so much, were were trying to figure out somewhere for a family lunch the next Sunday and came back again. This time my sister, son and I brought my dad. We of course ordered more wings and burnt ends and brisket with lots of Mac N Cheese. The food really is something special. The wings are absolutely wonderful and the burnt ends are a hit. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants and will always be on my list of visits to enjoy when I come back to Jax.

Best BBQ in Jacksonville. Period…read more In my 6 week trip to Jax, I sought out some BBQ joints. Now, I'm no connoisseur, I am not from an elite BBQ region and I know that Jacksonville is not a BBQ go to area. But that said, I tried a few places in the region and 4 Rivers is the only spot I'd repeat visit. Service is friendly and prompt, and they were helpful with putting me on their best items. The brisket was moist, tender and flavorful. The ribs? To die for. Best I've had in Florida. The burnt ends are a combination of brisket and pork, which compliments one another nicely. I loved the beans! The corn was the only thing I found lacking, tasted too much like canned corn for my taste. Their nice seating area is big and welcoming and they have numerous sauces for you. We really enjoyed the blueberry bbq over by the fountain drinks. It went well with the ribs! Overall, must visit for Jax! Thanks guys! See you soon!

The food smelled amazing. People kept poking their heads in the room saying they could smell it when they got off the elevator. All of the food looked good. I made my own little food name cards to go in front so people knew what they were looking at. I do prefer when caterers provide those name cards. I will say that 4R did write what each thing was on the top of the lids, so I knew what it was prior to opening them. We got: salad, cornbread, pulled pork, Texas sausage, beef brisket, vegan burnt ends, mac and cheese, baked beans, and banana dream pudding. Salad looked good and came with all the toppings and 2 dressings. The cornbread looked and tasted amazing. 10/10 Everyone loved the pulled pork. By far the favorite. The Texas sausage smelled amazing. The beef brisket wasn't how I expected. The top layer looked fine, but the layers underneath were sitting in grease and looked to have a ton of fat on them. I've never had beef brisket before, so I'm unsure if that's normal. But to me, it didn't look good. The vegan burnt ends were so good. I actually questioned if it was actually meat (I don't eat pork anymore). I even had someone try it and only told them it was burnt ends and they didn't notice it wasn't meat. 10/10 Mac and cheese was good. Baked beans looked and smelled amazing. The banana dream pudding was 10/10 on appearance. Literally perfection; however, I tried it thinking it was regular banana pudding with extra toppings on it, but I was wrong. It almost had a lemony taste to it. I, personally, did not care for it and only had one bite. I went back and looked and it doesn't mention lemon, but it did not taste like regular banana pudding. There's something else in there, just not sure what it is. Overall, I would definitely order 4 Rivers again. They had excellent delivery, food had excellent presentation, and most of it was really good.

My family, the six of us, most who live very close, my wife and I, visiting from CA, made our usual visit to Woodpecker's during an "around Florida" vacation. We visited many spots of my youth between Jax & St. Petersburg while dining at old favorites and several BBQ joints along the way. Without a doubt, Woodpecker's Backyard Barbecue was the best by far. The last time we were there, the turkey stole a show as it was the best turkey I have ever eaten in a barbecue restaurant. This time the brisket was the number one meat, equalling or bypassing any I have had anywhere, even in the many Texas joints we have tried. It was right up there with Franklin's and other top Texas offerings. All of their meats were extremely good. Their sides are very interesting as well as good tasting utilizing a lot of dátil pepper to flavor several and add a little bite of spice. My only wish is that it was closer than the 2547 miles away that it is. If you are anywhere near woodpecker's backyard, barbecue, go. Go. Go. You will not regret it.

I have lived around here for years and wondered if there was a reason why this place is always bursting at the seams on nice days. Now I know, this is some legit bbq. The portions are generous, the chicken was tender, the beef ribs were huge, and the coleslaw is very similar to a fried chicken place (with only three letter letters in its name)... Which was my most favorite coleslaw in the whole wide world. No french fries though. But the coleslaw makes up for it. I told my BF that I would absolutely travel down there (30 min) just to pick up some to-go chicken and coleslaw. He also told me that the datil pepper cornbread was deliciously spicy with a real pepper kick.
