I usually don't write bad reviews but the owner crossed the line when it comes to customer service. Let me start out by saying that eating out is not cheap and for the money we pay we should get an enjoyable eating experience. I took my family out to experience something new the owner turned it into one of the worst meals I have had. I ordered one entree and 4 appetizers for 4 people. The owner copped a serious attitude because we only ordered one entree. She immediately informed me that we would only get 6 small vegetable plates instead of the 12 they usually serve. Now mind you when I say small I mean small plates. After our food comes to the table I asked for some more Kimchee at which time our waitress (who was very nice) informed me the owner said we could not have any refills on the small vegetable plates. I got very aggravated but I kept my cool and immediately asked for the check so I can leave at which time the female owner came over and I confronted her about her attitude. She walked away without a word. The check comes and the total with tip was $100.00. 100.00 for food that was at best average....... So for the cost of a small plate of Kimchee which is nothing but cabbage she lost a customer and but gained a negative review for her attitude.......... read more

Been to this establishment multiple times. One of my favorite places to get Korean food. Have taken multiple friend group here. Food is amazing. Not sure how to say the names of the food but definitely great flavors. My recommendations are the rice cakes with the spicy sweet sauce with the friend egg, galbi and the seafood pancake... delicious.... Now the attraction/ the heart of the restaurant. "Mama Kim". She is very direct which some people can find her rude. But once you pass that she is soo much fun. Love seeing her and joking around with her. Unlike traditional Korean BBQ places I've been Kim's doesn't have a cook at your table option, but that's ok; the do a damn good job cooking for you. We came in there as soon as they open. They checked temperature and had masks on them. Also provided some sanitizers upon entry. We ordered rice cakes and it was missing boiled egg and the rice cake was cracked so i am assuming it is either reheated or has been frozen for a long time. It should have no cracks at all. Update: as expected, the owner's family member messaged me calling me nosy and judgmental lol but he said he's just a "regular" at this restaurant. He sure spent a lot of efforts on messaging me and defending this place but he's sooo not related to the owner or the place. Yep totally not related They're fast to get defensive and attack their customers, but not wonder why their paying customer are saying these things and to fix the problem. I can understand the high price point during this time, but i wont pay to get bad service and attitude. Why do other korean restaurant give free side dishes but not here? Why is there no mention of this refill charge? I only found out from the review here. Good luck with this way of doing business. It's $15.99 for tofu soup with 1 egg, no meat, and a bowl of rice. I will pay if the quality and service is worth it. This was not. They dont refill the side dish nor check on you. I read that they charge to refill side dishes which is laughable. So I didnt even bother asking. This was a weird experience because usually the owners at Korean restaurant are super nice and welcoming. The owner here spoke down to her staffs, and wasnt even trying to put on her customer service voice. She got defensive at any concern, not to correct it but try to prove you're wrong from what i saw at othee tables. I used to be a waitress. I was so uncomfortable and the negative review proved me right. If she treats customer like this, she wont treat her staff any different. Even my spouse who is usually forgiving and lenient felt uncomfortable. The entire meal we just wanted to finish and go. There was no effort given. It's a shame because this place looks nice, it had potential. But i wont come back. This Korean restaurant is very good. We had small Japchae( glass noodles to start, galbisal (tender and juicy), makes me hungry just thinking about it and bulgogi as our main dish. This was my first Korean barbecue experience! I have always wanted to go and even living in Portland, Oregon I never made it to one! This evening my girlfriend and I got to go with our close group of friends. None of us had ever had Korean barbecue except my girlfriend who is Korean! So she was there to show us the ropes and give us the run down. We got several Korean beers and a couple bottles of Soju to start out. We then ordered a few plates of Bulgogi, Kalbi, and pork belly. The food came quickly and it was so good! The Kalbi was amazing and the spicy bulgogi was my favorite. I could've ate the entire plate! All the side dishes were light and great highlights to the meat. The owners were there and very sweet. This is definitely a hidden gym in Jacksonville. Wow this place was fun and great! First time in here. This place is huge. Cool decor, except for the obligatory TVs showing korean preteen pop stars in vaguely uncomfortable sexually toned music videos. The staff is great. Every single one of them was nice, helpful and engaged. The food. yeah. I rolled out of there. We did not try the grill tables there but a few people around us were doing it. What I noticed is the manager maybe owner, possibly Kim herself, siting with the various tables explaining how to use the equipment for the best possible experience. This is what I mean when I say everyone was engaged. I also tried some ginger lemon concoction. It is in the menu as tea but they can make it cold. It was really good. Quite a bit of sugar, not sure if they could make it sugarless I forgot to ask, but the flavor was great. The Jap Chae was excellent. I just love Jap Chae. But only if its done right. Bulgogi was good. The portions are fair, not huge but enough. This place is a bit more expensive than the other option on Beach Blvd at Emerson. The decor is much nicer as well. My go-to Bulgogi restaurant. Everything is homemade and you can really tell. The bonchon (little side dishes you can eat right away or eat WITH your meal as I've been informed by the Owner so definitely try!) they give you before the meal are all great in their own right. The appetizers I've gotten were the Japchae (glass noodles with pieces of Bulgogi!!) and the Mandu (Korean potstickers and they're way better than most of those average gyoza you get at those basic Hibachi places). Aside from the Bulgogi, I've also ordered Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour fried pork), Pork Bulgogi (it's prepared differently from Bulgogi), Dak Gangjeong (fried chicken in a spicy sauce) and the Galbisal (beef spare ribs). The winners for me were Bulgogi, Tangsuyuk and sometimes the Pork Bulgogi. My problem with the Dak Gangjeong was the sauce takes away all the crisp from the frying process so I was disappointed. The Galbisal when served at the table (not when you order at the grill which is how you should order it) was just strips of steak with no sear or marbling and almost seemed boiled at times. Regardless! This place is a 5/5 once you figure out your faves and luckily I have so I'll definitely keep coming! read more

EEP! They got expensive! Even though I don't live in Florida, I've been to Kim's many times. I've always said that they had good food and lots of it. I feel like I'd have noticed that Galbisal was $34.99 and Bulgogi was $24.99 before. I felt a bad, because I picked the restaurant, but I wasn't the one paying for the meal. I still love the open interior that can be sectioned off for groups. I like the cute coloring pages. I love that Mama Kim came to visit our table. I felt like we could have a conversation at the table. I shall have to consider if I will return in the future. Kim's Korean Barbeque serves up reasonably tasty Korean food with some hits and more misses at a premium price point that left me feeling pretty disappointed at the end of my meal. I ordered takeout, was quoted 20 minutes, and Mrs. Kim was literally walking out from the kitchen with my food when I walked through the door exactly 20 minutes later. Perfect timing. They are very conscientious about sanitation during the pandemic, with a large plexiglass shield at the front counter, and she sanitized my credit card both before and after paying. Mrs. Kim also provided two facemasks with our meal! She was very pleasant and personable to deal with. As far as the food, we started with the seafood pancake. I was really looking forward to it as other Yelpers made it look crispy and delicious. Unfortunately, the pancake we got was wan and rubbery with no hint of crispiness, and the amount of seafood did not warrant its price point. Big miss on this item. For my entree I ordered pork belly from the grill. For me, the big draw of pork belly is the richness. It's bacon, so it's fatty! Or...at least it should be. The strips of pork belly in my entree were cooked to within an inch of their life and very dry. I had to sauce them with the accompanying sesame oil or eat them with some of the wetter banchan to get them down. It was a sad story. Speaking of which, the banchan that came with my order were tasty but not really revelatory. Their kimchi is definitely on the milder side of both heat and funk, which was a little disappointing. However, the flavor was there so overall I enjoyed it. I also ordered some kimchi fried rice which, while flavorful, wasn't really worth $13. It was a solid helping but it's fried rice with no protein. It did taste very good, however; I think their kimchi works better in the fried rice setting than it does on its own. My wife ordered chicken bulgogi and I had a bite and it blew away everything else we ordered. Tender, rich, fatty chicken thigh that she ordered mildly spicy which they nailed. It made me wish I'd gotten that instead. For two entrees, the seafood pancake, and fried rice, it came to $70. That's not cheap! When the time comes where I feel safe dining in-house again, I'll definitely try Kim's again so I can grill things to my liking at the table rather than leave it in the hands of the chef, since overall I was unimpressed. They run a nice operation but will really need to hit it out of the park on our next visit to win me over. read more

The fantastically sweet waitress let us put him on the side porch area, where it was safely closed in and shady. She also gave him a bone! This place is probably easy to look over being that the crowd-pleasing Outback Steakhouse is located directly in front of it, but I promise if you do come here you won't be disappointed. Though I only have a picture of the Korean BBQ that we ordered I also had their fried calamari, and the Dubu Kimchi, and plenty of their banchan side dishes. All of it was delicious. It was hard to decide what I wanted at first but I think I ended up making the right choice. The Dubu Kimchi came with plenty of tofu and pork. I'd recommend having them separately first to enjoy the kimchi flavor, but ultimately you'll want to mix this up and eventually add some rice into each bite. My other family members ordered their Bibimbap and tofu soup and these dishes also seemed to be pretty pleasing not only visually but also inside their belly's. We went in June 2020 so they were still open. Staff do have masks on and also ask that you sanitize your hands and have your temperature measured before getting a table. read more

"I'm all of of love, I'm so lost without you" So this review is based on takeout only, so I can't really comment on the service. That said, if dining in is better than doing takeout, as the employees were telling me, I can't wait to dine in dig out! First, the portions - WHOA! I was not expecting that much food! From my experiences with Bento Boxes from years past the portions are small. Want more bulgogi? Faghettaboudit! Japchae? Not today! This place is definitely the exception to all other places that I've been to. They serve their takeout in sectioned containers, which I like to refer to as "prison style," which are my favorite...don't judge me. So, one whole prison tray is just banchan and rice. I think it was kimchee, sweet and sour radish salad, pickled yellow radish and spicy cucumber salad. I could be wrong on all of those, but i'm right about how delicious it all is. The second container was all warm foods, which I know to be fried dumplings, japchae and galbisal a.k.a. kick @ss ribs with no bone. The flavors were perfect! I don't want to ruin it by telling you everything, but if you're ever find yourself on the corner of Pall Mall and San Jose in Jacksonville, Florida, just drive make a right into the plaza, go all the way down until the plaza makes a left, then make a left and then look to your right after the Indian restaurant (that's also good) and you're right there!
