Everything is so fresh and delicious. The injera, a fermented sourdough flatbread, is spongy and so delicious with a unique taste! And did you know that teff is a very healthy grain? And don't be shy, use your hands, tear off a small piece of the bread, wrap up some stew, and enjoy! If there are two or more of you, the staff may ask if you want to have everything on one plate. Say yes unless you really don't want to. This is how food is traditionally served, diners gathering around a large platter to share various stews and salads, sometime offering a morsel to an honored guest or loved one. A beautiful tradition of sharing, caring and bonding. The place is not fancy, but it's very bright and clean. A shame though there's no fancy setup for making coffee the traditional way... the coffee comes in a paper cup like anywhere else.

Ive officially tried all Ethiopian, African restaurants in Northern California. I will rarely leave reviews anymore unless a deserving restaurant needs attention or the current standing needs correction. Unfortunately I bookmarked this place because ratings were high but it was lacking in almost all areas: customer service, ambience and food. Tried the vegetarian combo plate but Holy spicy Batman, 3 out of 5 were way too spicy like at a 3 Alarm level. This cook doesn't like vegetables because they feel they need to add shit load of chili to cover up real vegetable flavors. Too bad, the cabbage was the only vegetable dish that was good and like typical Ethiopian food is supposed to be. I've never seen or tasted other dishs prepared the same way elsewhere as they do here. Spinach is spicy here, not elsewhere, lentils are half cooked here. As for the other brown mush, it's extremely spicy and inedible. While asking for add on, ala carte, this woman wasn't willing to accommodate. No one is asking for free but not willing to accept an extra order off menu isn't the smartest business decision. Lastly their overhead menu prices aren't up to date and I wasn't told so. I asked after I was charged why the price discrepancy and she simply said the overhead menu isn't up to date. Well yes it costs money to update so invest in a monitor where you can adjust the price easily, but this needs to be done because it's dishonest to your customers! Not greeted with the usual warmth of the culture, so I'm only left with the impression of the Unkind Bean experience.

What a cute little gem! We haven't had Ethiopian cuisine since moving out of the Bay Area, that was until we stumbled across this spot today. The service was great, the gal at the front helped us to decide on the Lamb Stew & Veggie Platter, both were great recommendations! The food is flavorful, fresh & delicious. Highly recommend!

We had one of the most delicious drinks here a ChaCha Latte yummy. We ordered them with no sugar and it tasted delicious. The service was quick. We called it in ahead of time and very friendly staff. And it was very relaxing and quiet while we were in there There was music also playing We will definitely be back again O

Definitely a must order if you've never had Ethiopian food. Everything was delicious

Food was excellent ! From the moment you walk in, you can smell the tasty offerings. This little gem of a restaurant is so clean and well kept . I love that Kind Bean serves Halal meats as having a meat option is so nice . Service was so great and the sweet sister at the counter who greeted my party of 4 helped me pick the dish that I had been craving since my last Ethiopian food experience. (Thank you sister) Because I can't eat out too much in this economy, I'm planning on returning just to purchase the Injera lol so I can maintain my cravings until I return again! Thank You Kind Bean Cafe for the delicious experience :)

first time ever coming in here or even having this type of food 10 out of 10 experience not only is the staff amazing but the food is top-tier. I would definitely suggest the lamb stew.

I wanted to try something new and this spot definitely stood out. Ethiopian food and a cafe all in one. I noticed people came in for drinks and food but I wanted to try their most popular dishes. I got the veggie platter that had 5 different veggie preparations, that I can't say correctly, on a flat bread. The veggies were cooked down and still had flavor. The flat bread is soft and spongey. I also got the beef stew that came with rolled flat bread. The stew was dark and had a deep unique flavor. Eating everything together made for the best bites. Some meat, veggie, and soft flatbread enhanced the Ethiopian spices and the flavors were very unique. The only downside is the portions are small and they literally can put your whole meal on one big plate. Definitely recommend this spot if you are looking to experience something new!

They really don't care about delivery
    Beth C.

I don't want to be negative but, if you don't want to be part of a delivery service, just don't. There's no need for people to pay good money and you just slop food into a container and think that's good to go.

This was a great neighborhood coffee shop with a twist. I really enjoy Ethiopian food and their coffee is always freshly made. Although on this encounter, I did not partake in the food the smells really had me engaged and wanting to take a plate home. I ordered the Ethiopian macchiato and it was very delicious. I requested that it wasn't made sweet so I can enjoy the flavors. The service was very quick and attentive. I definitely will be back for another round and hopefully a plate of food as well.

Food and service was wonderful! Everything tasted so great and the lady was so kind . We got this platter with two veggies and two meats( chicken and beef) two sodas and the total was $58.00.

    Christina G.

The food was the perfect blend of spice and flavor, and the presentation of our food on top of the Injera was perfect. I got the coffee ceremony and that was a really fun treat! I also enjoyed the traditional Ethiopian music they were playing. The ladies working there were very kind and explained the different foods and how the coffee ceremony works in their cultural so that context really helped me to enjoy the whole meal. The whole place had a really cool vibe and I can't wait to go back.

Glad we stepped out of our comfort zone and gave this place a try! It was our first time trying Ethiopian food so we played it safe and ordered one plate. It was delicious! The stew reminded us of Mexican mole! It did come with only one chicken leg so if you like a lot of meat I would maybe recommend ordering extra. My coffee was smooth and flavorful and the matcha tasted earthy which my partner enjoyed. Service was also great, both ladies were welcoming and checked in on us as we ate.

Our waitress recommended a combo platter with lamb, chicken, and beef. It also had some lentils, green peas, and salad. We also ordered the gluten free bread, called injera. They had the normal and gluten free options. The serving size was huge, seriously enough to feed like 4 people. The flavors were unlike anything I've tasted before. The meat had such amazing spices. The cool thing is you could also customize how spicy you wanted the food. I'm a mild person, and the spiciness of the food really hit the spot. If you're in the mood for Ethiopian, treat yourself like a queen at Queen Sheba

We met our neighbors at our house and all drove together. We arrived around 6:16pm. We are familiar with the parking situation, there are only a few spaces in front of the restaurant so you're on your own for finding parking. We pulled in the street right before Queen Sheba (17th Street) and parked in the residential neighborhood. It wasn't rush hour so there was plenty of spaces. You can't tell from the outside if they are open and I was afraid that I didn't read their hours and we were making contingent plans if they were closed. At least we know where we can go next time. Thankfully they were open and there was plenty of seating. I had a concern that they may have been packed due to it was the weekend and the dinner hour. We found a nice table in the middle. The only downside of the restaurant were the flies. That was really disturbing. They just kept flying around and I was quite embarrassed to bring them to a fly ridden restaurant. We ordered F. Combo Platter for 4, $70 plus tax and tip. A total steal. The price is comparable of ordering Chinese food which is a great deal. Combo Platter includes- Chicken tibbs (2), awaze beef (5), fish tibbs (12) and Vegetarian combo (24); and Injera (Eathopian bread made of barley and tiff and comes rolled up. And used to eat your food. It could be compared to a burrito or taco, you put the filling in the Injera and eat it with your hands. We used a fork to move the food from the communal platter to our plates since we were sharing) Chicken Tibbs- Tender pieces of chicken breast sautéed in a rich mixture of spiced butter with garlic, ginger and mixed vegetables with a dash of turmeric. My favorite out of all the meats. Not listed, but I belive we also had Doro Wot- tender chicken drum stick, simmered in spiced butter and specially prepared spices and herbs including garlic, ginger, and onion, accompanied by hard boiled egg and our exclusive berbera sauce. Very tasty Aware Beef Tibbs- Lean beef chunks sautéed with tomatoes, bell peppers, and a special blend of garlic, ginger, onions, and other spices. Drizzled with clarified butter (butter Optional) Very good, but not as good as the Chicken. Fish Tibbs-Specially selected far raised catfish, trimmed into bite-sized pieces and sautéed in a blend of garlic, ginger, and herbs paired with an assortment of mixed vegetables, Drizzled with seasoned clarified butter. (Butter Optional). I'm sorry to say that the fish tibbs are not may favorite, I honest didn't really like it and won't be ordering it again. Vegetarian Combo-Misr Kik wot (15-Spicy red lentils cooked slowly and bursting with energy, smothered in a sauce of herbs and spices including ginger, garlic, onions, and Berber-), Kik wot (16-Yellow split peas stewed with our traditional mixture Ethiopian spices, turmeric sauce, garlic, and ginger), gomen (17-healthy spinach and collard greens simmered in our special blend of herbs and spices), cabbage (20-Fresh cabbage sautéed with ginger, ginger, onions, and tomato in a special turmeric sauce), potatoes and carrots (21-Potato and carrots sautéed with garlic, ginger and onion, turmeric sauce) Our meal was delicious and the price was right. My only complaint was the flies. They really need to get that under control.

I discovered they had moved to a permanent location in Roseville, so I was anxious to try them (again). It's definitely the same restaurant, as Samerwit (perhaps the owner) was our waitress. I ordered the Mini Combo, substituting Lamb, along with cabbage & greens for my veggies. The Lamb Tibs was well cooked (moist) and plentiful, and the sauce was tasty. The two veggie dishes were very good and flavorful. My husband ordered the Vegan combo. He enjoyed all 5 dishes, and felt that unlike some Ethiopian vegs he's had in the past, each dish had its own unique flavor. His least favorite typically is the collard greens, but this time he added a bit of Berbera spice from the shaker on the table, and he loved that one, too. The only slight disappointment for him was the beets and potato dish, which last time was his favorite, but this time seemed a bit on the dry side. But still very delicious. Service was exceptionally pleasant and kind. The food took a while to arrive (about 25-30 minutes). But it's been my experience that Ethiopian food is often a bit slower, so we were prepared to wait. I uploaded photos of a handful of menu pages, since the prices on their website are old. Unfortunately, even their menu is a bit outdated in places, since it had my Mini Combo at $16.50, but the current price turned out to be $17.50. A great experience!
