-- Cold, careless, and heartbreaking Almost a year ago, our father was transferred to Kindred Brea, and it was the beginning of a nightmare. This facility showed no compassion or professionalism. From day one, we felt he wasn't seen as a person -- just another old patient not worth the effort. We were pressured into approving a feeding tube, told it was necessary to save him. We are not doctors or nutritionists, so we trusted what we were told. But they miscalculated the nutrition levels, and it led to aspiration pneumonia that ultimately worsened his condition. He was already on IV fluids, and this decision likely shortened his life. Dr. Amin was detached and unprofessional -- walking the halls playing music, and disappearing for days after surgery. When an infection developed at the feeding site, we had to beg nurses to act. Even when he showed up, he didn't enter the room -- just glanced from the doorway and left. We asked multiple times to bring our father home to pass peacefully, but they insisted on keeping him there. Then, at 5:24 a.m., we got the call. By the time we arrived, he was already zipped in a body bag -- no chance to say goodbye. No dignity. No respect. Kindred Brea failed our father and our family. If I could give Kindred Hospital in Brea zero stars, I would. My father was transferred here on September 18, 2024, and passed away less than a month later. What we witnessed was neglect, incompetence, and complete lack of compassion. Nurses missed medications, mishandled his BiPAP mask, and even tried to reuse a needle dropped on the floor in front of me. Doctors pressured us into a feeding tube surgery that led to infection, aspiration pneumonia, and his decline. It took days for antibiotics to be given after infection was identified. The hospital was dirty, staff were rude, and communication was awful. Worst of all, when my father passed, we arrived to find him zipped in a plastic bag with a toe tag. This was the most disrespectful and heartbreaking experience of our lives. Kindred Hospital in Brea is a death trap--do not bring your loved ones here. read more

They fail to inform you of any medical changes or conditions! "Stable" to them isn't really stable for patients , so they do less than the bare minimum! In that emergency that happened with my father, I had to bring my kids and had them wait in the lobby for staff to kick them out and have them wait it the HOT SUN!! They clam to go above and beyond with care but they don't! Doctors don't answer questions, Nurses never know what's going on with patients and just say they'll message the DR. I don't yelp very often, but when I do, it's for good reason. My best friend has been at Kindred Brea for about 2 months, and he has basically visited every level of care at this facility. Initially, he was admitted to the ICU, in which, he was under the care of Dr.Liao, who aggressively implemented our desired plan of care, with a sense of urgency and compassion, and continued with that tempo, until our discharge today. Nurse Olive, in the ICU was the kindest, sweetest, most attentive, compassionate, spectacular ICU nurse. And we finished our journey in the SUBACUTE unit, which I CANNOT say enough positive things about from top to bottom. Everything from the doctors, nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Activities Director, Social Worker, Case Worker, to EVAN at the front desk; the entire staff was on point 25/8. And lastly, Sarah Chen, RN who helped get him situated on his next mission forward. You were amazing. I tend to be pretty judgmental in medical situations, because I work in healthcare, and I honestly will miss this entire staff, their care, and their support, not only for my friend the patient, but for his family and friends. It's clean, not too big, not too small, and is a perfect place for a loved one in need of medical care. Consistent with multiple views is that the physical therapy / occupational therapy is truly exceptional at Kindred. Amir and his team on the subacute side did wonders for my then 77 year old Parkinson's dad after a total hip replacement! But this year, we were hospital side recovering from acute (silent) pneumonia. My dad was so weak for weeks by the time he arrived that we weren't sure what kind of condition he'd be in by the time the pneumonia was treated -- but 4 weeks later -- truly angelic PT/OT team of Patrick, Collin and my dad's "dance partner" Cynthia, my dad came home a few days ago and took steps forwards and backward (assisted, but he hasn't for months!). Truly a miracle because of their care and unrelenting motivation. Best part... they educated us (and we're pretty informed....) we learned more about his disease but also, new ways to speak to my dad in a way that lowered his anxiety and frustration so he could make the most of every session. We are soooo grateful to have had the most magical memorable 1st weekend home after 39 days away. Also special shoutouts to the CNAs, RTs, LVN, nurses, wound care that allowed us to hover and be all over my dad's care 9-9 daily. My mom has been in this facility a few weeks after MAJOR abdominal surgery and she has been begging to come home from the day she got there because she doesnt feel cared for there. One MAJOR mistake they made was giving her gluten for her first soft meal. She is celiac and has wrist bands for warning and it's in her records. We prayed they'd learn from their mistake, but they have since brought her trays labeled as "gluten-free" with her gravy and then chicken tenders which she had the nutritionalist double check on - GLUTEN! They must not be educated in celiac to understand its severity and to cause such sabotage on her healing. When we called the Case Manager she understood the seriousness, but it wasnt corrected as right after she was served the gluten chicken tenders which labeled as "gluten-free". They also take like 15 mins to come help her when she calls the nursing station. Twice they've told her she couldnt go for a walk when the white board behind her says she is okayed by the doctor to walk. (Her surgeon says it's vital for her recovery.) They had said she is the only mobile patient they have so they arent used to her exception. The only reason I gave it two stars is Nicholas Santos (St. Nick). He has been her PT and is super kind and patient with her. UPDATE: Their CEO sent me a letter certified mail to apologize. I appreciate the apology and called him and left a message. The letter said once the kitchen manager was notified that my mom couldn't have gluten that they stopped giving it to her. If that's the case then their staff has very poor communication about food issues. The hospital was notified when she entered, giving her a bright red wristband that warned she was celiac, and yet she was still served oatmeal. She asked the nurse if the oatmeal was gluten-free the same day, informing her she is celiac. Almost a week later they brought the breaded chicken with a label of it being gluten-free. Upon asking questions, the nutritionist said the chicken had gluten and brought her other chicken. They knew she was celiac and continued serving her gluten. They need to better educate their staff on the seriousness of food allergies/celiac and/or better communicate this important informationbefore they kill someone. read more

Kindred Hospital brea cared for my father for close to 4 months. My father came in for Guillain Barre syndrome, though very unknown to us the hospital new exactly how to care for him. At first when we went in we were hesitant about the hospital, didn't know exactly what to expect but after the first week our outlook on the hospital completely changed. We got to know the RN's, CNA's, PT's and RT's and what a difference it made. Both day shift and night shift nurses really valued us as family of the patient as well and really cared for our patient. After some time it was clear that their priority was to get the patient in a better state. We can't thank them enough. It was actually quite sad when we had to leave, it felt as though we were leaving some friends behind. The case manager and team also helped my mother, who was caring for my father, so much! You don't know how much paper work and dealing with insurances and claims it takes when you're caring for a loved one and they made the process so seamless for us. Every question or anything I needed they were there for us. We left there with a clear understanding of the next steps we'd be taking. So many good staff we could name but there is just too many. But thank you to Veronica the patient advocate who also helped us along the way, all the professionals along the way who went out of the way to have a conversation with us. Being in the hospital for months at a time can get really lonely but we had people that cared for us there which made a difference. The facility is clean, well kept, as well. I wouldn't make the mistake of trusting this facility to care for your loved ones. My Mom was there over the course of a few months and we had a lot of problems some worse than others. It started off with having issues of getting the doctors or nurses to provide updates or return phone calls. It took me speaking with the department manager to finally have her intervene and help keep me in the loop. The second issue was the HIPPA violation that occurred. They had put my mom and another patient with the same first initial and last name next to each other and kept confusing them, even giving my mom information on the other patient in error. I brought this to their attention and also let their internal compliance line know what had happened. The last major issue was that fact that proper procedures were not followed and an infection was spread to a different part of her body which ultimately caused her to be transferred to UCI hospital ICU. The facility doesn't take criticism very well even if it is in the best interest of the patients. Because I vocalized the issues we faced and advocated for my mom they ended up black listing her and lying that I reported them to the state board which I did not, I only called their internal compliance line. Ultimately I would save your self the trouble and find a different place for your loved one to be cared for. read more

I was in Kindred Hospital Brea from September 9, 2024, through October 12, 2024. The first part of my stay was in the Acute Section as I was on an IV drip and needed continual medical attention. This section is a very busy and hectic place. I was brought there in the late evening on September 9th via an ambulance from my stay at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton. I was placed in a "room". Although I was lying down, I could see that this was not a normal hospital room. To me, it looked like a storage room. I asked to be put in a regular room. I never was able to understand the answer as to why I was put where I was. I was immediately stripped of everything I had on - my hospital gown and my "diaper". At that point, everyone disappeared. I was frightened, very upset and freezing cold!! Eventually, someone came and properly dressed me. The room I was in was so small that there was barely any space for my husband to sit. He brought a folding chair from our home to use! The care that I received in the Acute Section was in general excellent though sometimes non-responsive. The doctors, some of whom followed me from St Jude, especially Dr. Sud, were always available and very attentive. The Director of Nursing, Denesha Bivens, has put together a wonderful staff with some that I feel went over and above in their care of me: Misum RN, Elvie CNA, Jaime LVN, Olivia RN, Jose LVN and Mary CNA. They were there to comfort me when I cried. They were there to talk to both my husband and me when we needed any clarification of anything. The downside, in my opinion, is that the staff is overworked. Many, many times I rang my help button, only to have to wait anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour for help. When I experienced severe pain, severe itching, and a very wet bed, having to wait a very long time for help was frustrating. When another patient was brought into this very small room, I felt as though it invaded the already tiny space I was in. A very special person who I believe gets top honors is Victoria, the Patient Advocate. She was there from the beginning of my stay up until the day I was released. She listened to all of my complaints and did her best to help resolve any problems I had. Again, my kudos to her on a job well done. I want to comment on the rehab therapy people who take care of the patients in the Acute Section. I give my biggest thanks to Patrick, Nicholas, Cullen, Sam and Cynthia. When they first came to my bed to help me, I couldn't even wiggle my toes. With their constant help, they took me from a zero to at least a five. They were incredible! I wish I could say the same for the food service. The major downside of my stay at Kindred was the food. The menu lacked variety, and the communication from patient to dietary seemed to be nonexistent. Shortly after I arrived at Kindred, I was given the go-ahead by the speech therapist to eat regular food, either from the kitchen or brought to me from the outside. My husband and my daughters took over the responsibility of filling out the papers indicating what I would want for my three daily meals. They obviously knew my likes and dislikes. For a short while, everything seemed to be going smoothly, but then it all fell apart. I started getting what looked like mush in every meal. What was this horrible stuff? Obviously, I didn't eat it. The Food Service Manager, told me that this is what was ordered for me - all pureed food. When I saw pureed bread, I almost vomited over the whole tray!! I I was told that in order for it to be changed, I would have to have the speech therapist come and test me once again to see if I could swallow. I told her that this had already been done and approved for me to eat regular normal food. I don't know what transpired in the kitchen, but this mush was eventually replaced by normal food. However, this is not the end of the story. On almost every one of my three meal per day trays, the incorrect food was brought to me. The paperwork that my husband submitted showed what I wanted, but that's not what I ever got. I had to send back each and every meal. It was a disaster. Eventually, the Food Service Manager came to me directly with my correct food, but that was only after all of the incorrect food was taken away from me. There was a young man working in that department named Jonathan that was very helpful but seemed to have his hands tied when it came to get things straightened out. Overall, my stay at Kindred rates a 4 star. I can't give it a 5 star as the food situation so greatly upset me, that I feel it hindered my progress there. Jane Subeck-Goodman read more

Nursing department is extremely understaffed. with a response time to call light alone over ten minutes followed by a nurse taking another 15 minutes to actually arrive at the rooms. Rooms are absolutely filthy and the floors are disgusting and discolored. Nurses and cna more worried about their hour long shift change than actual care for a patient and constantly complain about it you will be lucky to be able to receive any care for that hour. Many times I was left improperly cleaned after using the bed pan. Went without a bed bath for a week at one point. Improper and Unsanitary medicine. Hygiene of certain staff themselves is poor. Kitchen served a known allergen to me although clearly labeled. And to top it all off I Was physically assaulted by a staff member of the nursing department at one point The only thing that saves this from a 0 star review is their pt department shout out those guys and gals for being amazing! My one star is for the Physical Therapy staff here. The only thing good about this place. Do not send your loved ones here. This is a terrible place and not sure how they past state/federal compliance. Their Case Management team is horrible. Staff tends to be better (which is not saying much) when family is around which means I can only imagine what goes on when family is not around. They get annoyed when you ask too many questions. Our experience at Kindred Brea was a nightmare and all we wanted to do was get our loved one out of this facility which they also made difficult. I would question any decent review coming from this place, don't trust it. They should consider shutting this place down. read more

My husband was a patient at Kindred for a little over 2 months. He spent 1 month in the hospital side and 1 month in the sub acute. I have to say the sub acute is where he received the BEST care!!! He has been in many facilities since and this by far was the best. From the moment you enter you are greeted with smiles by the wonderful ladies in admitting, Azzalie & Rosemary. They were always so kind, caring and respectful to me and my family. I can't say enough about Amir and his staff in Rehab. They are all AMAZING! He motivated my husband and treated him with respect and dignity. Worked around my schedule on multiple occasions so I could be a part of his rehab. Daniel was amazing with my husband also. Crystal in RT, always explained things to me so I would understand what was happening, She is a professional and was always so pleasant and kind. From the CNA's to the RN's they were all so compassionate and caring. My husband was always so clean and well taken care of. Everyone I spoke to loved working at Kindred and it showed. Thank you Kindred for your compassion and caring of my husband. I was saddend that he had to be transferred to a different facility where he did not receive the quality of care that he did at Kindred. The only Con about this place is I didn't care for his doctor there. I never met him the entire time my husband was there. Of all the subacutes. This place was the best! read more

Send your loved one somewhere else where you can be there with them at all times. Some of the admin staff were ghetto. advice, don't shake/roll your head to family members if they ask questions about the facility. Seems very defensive and lacking accountability. No one needs an attitude. The nursing staff, some of the LVNs didn't want to be there and you can tell by their attitude, one LVN walked out of my mother's room and said she didn't want to change her. Also, the staff gave me a hard time for wanting to be in the room while my mother was changed. I called federal and local agency and there is no law saying you have to leave the room. I recommend looking up their license number through the state, it's a public query. I also recommend calling the CA public health line, and Orange county public health to report employees and the facility. Furthermore, I recommend calling the Department of Health and Human Services. This is a federal agency, Kindred receives Medicare payments so you are able to report to them as well. As I have researched, most facilities such as this have poor response times or treat patients like second class citizens. These facility 's problems are a dime a dozen. All I can say is wait until their loved one is sick... we were recommended this place by a representative of kindred who worked at St Jude. That individual came across as if kindred was like st jude. I called that man to tell him he was wrong. Someone is getting a kickback. St Jude's staff was phenomenal, kindred ghetto. I also mentioned St Jude staff welcomed family members to stay in the room while they are being changed, I offered to help and they were so friendly, every single nurse. Kindred got angry, a couple of RNs didn't mind but most others did. This was not like st Jude at all. Keep your family member at st Jude as long as possible. We were manipulated into thinking this place was top notch. I really hope MatthewT does not reply with some pathetic generic response or some other staff member. If so, wait until a loved one is sick and no one responds to their loved one. Some daycare facilities have cameras at their facility. Patients are sick and vulnerable just like children are vulnerable. I can already see kindred lawyers and healthcare facilities working hard to ensure this will never happen. If you are considering placing a loved one here, I would strongly advise against that. My grandfather has been a patient here and the staff is incredibly inattentive. One of his machines started beeping and continued to beep as it detected air in his iv bag, which requires immediate action as the air can be very dangerous and even fatal. My sister, who accompanied me, notified the staff about this and told them what room my grandfather was in. The staff then replied "We do not have that room number here." This was more annoying than anything, how can their own staff be unaware of the rooms within their facility? As my sister was doing this, I attempted to call a nurse using the remote connected to my grandfather's bed. I understand the staff is busy, so I wasn't upset that it took someone a bit of time to respond. However, once someone did respond, I was notified that a nurse would be sent soon. A nurse was not sent quickly. I know the hospital is busy, but air in an iv bag is not something that should be handled so improperly. It took them around 15 minutes to send my grandfather's nurse to change his iv bag, which is far too long. During my visit I also heard other patient's machines beeping, which goes to show how widespread the lack of attention/care is. Apart from that easily preventable situation, I also noticed tartar and mineral buildup on my grandfather's teeth, which spread to the roof of his mouth. It is very obvious his nurses are not brushing his teeth, which is an extreme health concern as oral hygiene is strongly related to one's overall health. His mouth was very dry and he had blisters inside his mouth and around his lips. This facility is a health risk. I am severely disappointed by this negligence and the staff's unwillingness to help. read more

If I could leave no stars, I would. My husband began his stay at Kindred in Intensive Care Recovery, moved to Subacute, and then Long Term Acute Care. This is review focuses more on the LTAC side because everything in the other units worked as it should even considering the pandemic. If you don't read this review in its entirety, the bottom line is, if you care about your loved one, do NOT allow them to stay at Kindred Brea's LTAC unit. My husband complained of pain in his left arm, so they gave him Tylenol. It did not help, so they applied a lidocaine patch instead of looking into what the problem was. After transporting him to an ortho specialist and receiving an xray because he couldn't move his arm, it was found that the pain he was in was caused by the process of calcification! If they had taken the proper steps (range of motion) sooner, they could have prevented the heterotopic ossification from locking his elbow in place. He will have to have surgery to correct it. FAIL. A dislodged feeding tube caused him to be transported to an acute care hospital where they found aprox 500 ml (~16 oz) of feed in the abdominal wall (from the first drain!). That equates to approx 5 hours of drip. 5 hours of not paying attention and noticing a serious and potentially deadly problem. SERIOUS FAIL. Also at the acute care hospital, they found that the external genitalia hadn't been cleaned properly (if at all) for weeks AND he had Stage 3 pressure sores!!! FAILx2. Although his oxygen levels were fantastic and I was told they would be removing the trach after a two-week test period, two months later it was still in place with no answer to why. Well, now I know. If they had removed it, he would no longer qualify to stay there and they would lose out on thousands of dollars! BEYOND FAIL. All this lead him to be transferred to the acute care hospital for which I am grateful. He received proper care AND I was able to not just see him but visit with him each day and manage his care. Kindred wouldn't even let me touch him on the once-every-two-to-three-weeks visits! BOTTOM LINE: IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR LOVED ONE AT ALL, DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO STAY AT KINDRED BREA'S LTAC UNIT. read more

My Husband was taken there in a semi comatose state, he was a very sick man, but they brought him out of his state and little by little he became coherent. He left there able to speak, stand up & walk a short distance thanks to his physical therapist Majorie, and Amy. Amir who is in charge of P/T was always so upbeat & Positive. Judith who is the activities director was always so helpful and kind. Nursing staff were all so pleasant, kind and kept me posted as to what changes were going on. First of all I don't know if this review will back fire on me for being my mom's advocate since she is still currently in this hospital. But I think it's important for family members to know, this is not the place to send them unless you will be here by their side all day, and even if you are, there's only so much you can do in pushing the nurse station button, and hope they come and help, there's been times that it takes 10-15min to someone comes. I was lied to by St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton telling me that my mom would be in Kindred's ICU side and the ratio of patient to a nurse was much less than the regular hospital side.(mom was sent to reg side) someone that is 88yrs old, had brain surgery, nose feeding tube, diabetes, pneumonia and other medical needs you would think she would need extra care and would be in the ICU side. They also said that my mom needed therapy at her own pace and she would get that care here. (Another lie) just talked to speech therapist and she said, yes I look at your mom but she's sleeping, well yes cause she is weak but wouldn't you want to wake her up, stimulate her to work and get the therapy she needs...well it doesn't seem like they want the patient to improve. First visit: Sat. March 6, came in my mom's room found her with one foot over the bed with no socks,no blanket when I touch her feet they were freezing, (air conditioning full blast) her head back dangerous position for someone that has feeding tube thru nose. I had to ask for the nurses to do oral care and to reposition my mom, first day I was there 9am thru 6pm no one had done it. Why? Don't they care for the patient's back, possible sores. My family had a meeting with the hospital representative, I told them about my mom needs, but they were all much interested in moving her out to a convalescent home, and with what? With no rehab for my mom, no swallowing, no movement in her legs, arms. And she has only been here almost 2 weeks. I work up in Los Angeles (we all know the traffic) and one of my request is to come and see my mom thru out the week if they can put me on special pass to see her from 6:00pm-7:00pm/8:00pm-9:00pm, I have left multiple voice messages to the person in charge and it's almost been 1 week and I haven't received a call back nor I'm on the list. There are some nurses that care and explains what they are doing and hear you,, and some that look at you, like why are you asking so many questions. Please do your research, I didn't have the luxury to do mine since at St.Jude Hospital they practically told me she needs to move. I have been taking notes,, Will be creating a blog on my mom's recovery from St. JUDE Hospital and her stay in Kindred Hospital in BREA, hopefully my review will change in the coming weeks. read more

I recently had to pull my mom of Kindred Hospital in Brea CA after she suffered a seizure while in their care. She complained for several days of a severe headache. She could be heard down the hallway screaming in pain from the headache. I think the staff only gave her Tylenol which did nothing for her headache. She was left for hours to lay in urine and feces as nursing staff was almost nonexistent. My mom had fallen in her room and was on the floor for at least one hour before staff came into find her. Family was never notified that she had fallen. There was acute changes in her feet and hands and Kindred staff did not want to transfer her to a hospital. I ultimately signed my mom out of Kindred against their medical advise and took her to St. Joseph's Hospital emergency room where she is receiving treatment for the seizure or multiple seizures that were suffered at Kindred. Oh, f.y.i. I consulted with a family doctor who recommended singing my mom out of Kindred against medical advise to get her to a hospital. If I could give Kindred negative stars I would. I put up a review on Google about Kindred and my account got frozen and the review was removed. read more

Honestly wish I could give this place a zero rating their call button is a joke, my father isn't very responsive at the moment as he can't communicate so I have to do all the advocating for him I can press the call button for a nurse and I'll wait 40 or more minutes to finally hear back from someone sometimes they don't even come at all. I cannot praise their Physical Therapy Department enough for the incredible care and support he has received during his rehabilitation journey. RN Sarah in the sub-acute care unit did not give my son his Fentanyl pain patch when it was due and as a result he suffered severe headache for a day. It was an order to administer this pain medication and she failed miserably in her responsibilities as a nurse. read more

A family member of mine was transferred here from another hospital because they were known for their "physical therapy". Upon entering the room, I was appalled to see how unorganized and unsanitary the rooms were. The nurses left their equipment all over the place. There were multiple scissors, tissues, masks, and sanitized napkins thrown on any open space. I had to organize it myself and could not understand why there had to be so many materials thrown everywhere. I found pieces of equipment, hair ties (mind you, it did not belong to the patient) on the floor, and not to mention, the wires for the machines were all over the place. At one point, I looked under the bed and found that the cord was detached from the machine and had to call the nurse over to which she replied, "oh, it's not a big deal. It has a battery life." And what if I was not there to notice that and the battery died? Suggestion: Keep the machines and cords organized to avoid future mishaps. I have been visiting her for weeks now and every time we called the nurse for pain, nausea medication, or anything else, the nurse would take a long time to come. Sometimes they would take over 20 minutes and we would have to call them again. When she would politely ask the nurse for food, right before they did the shift change, the nurse would look annoyed and sighed before leaving the room. I have experienced one visit and got the opportunity to see a male respiratory nurse. He was very polite and came into check multiple times. Unfortunately, I was unable to get his name. (We were moved to another hospital) These patients are not at this hospital because they want to be. I expect any person(s) in the field of hospitality, serving, and/or customer service to be understanding and patient, especially towards those who are sick and need help. There is a lack of communication between the employees and this hospital would benefit from training for the staff when it comes to handling patients, communication, and professionalism. read more

If I can give this facility zero stars I would, from the security, to the doctors , to the cna's, rn, they all lack professionalism DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE, UNDERSTAFFED FACILITY, no one can provide timely service to the patient which then leads to the patient paying the price. Family members must sit in at all times to ensure the loved one is being fed , cleaned, tended to properly by physicians. Your lucky enough if you get to catch a doctor and when you do they give very little detail and only give you details if you have questions prepared. Ask about you options , speak to the case manager about your options for you loved one if your advocating for them let them know your not comfortable with sending your loved one here and have it APPEALED, YOU HAVE RIGHTS and these doctors will disregard, manipulate, and abuse loved ones if the advocate for the the loved one is not aware. My loved one contracted an infection here and is on two antibiotics that are like the big boys guns of antibiotics. Along with bed sores and blisters in private areas. The worst place ever! I've never seen so many people die in during my fathers stay. Thank god we got out of there. This whole facility failed my father!!!! Please be careful of the case workers because they lie to people just to get them transferred. The staff is horrible!!! Dr's don't know shit. 4-5 months of being there they never DX what he really had. (We finally have it) and it's not what the stupid pain management middle eastern dr said it was. No dr there told me anything! They go off assumptions there. Pomona Valley Drs knew there shit and got my father better...!!!! He was so sure and it's sad that he wasn't even close. The CNAs are so bad especially Diana (daytime), Maria (daytime), and I can't remember others. Wound care doesn't know how to do wounds! Wounds that they created by not assisting with proper patient care. They could heal it in 3 months and now he's healing and it's closing up. Just shows the level of care here and that's with every department. Bottom line please take your family member somewhere they care for patients. Your family me never deserves better. read more

During visit on Tuesday November 9th, 2021, my wife and I saw that our son Justin (with brain tumor) was in obvious pain (elevated heart rate and trembling/shaking of his left shoulder and arm). When asked if he was in pain, and he indicated by head nod that he was. My wife checked the date on Justin's Fentanyl patch, and it indicated it was placed on November 5th! The order as for 25mmg every 72 hours and it should have been replaced on November 8, 2021. We immediately realized the nurse on duty Monday November 8th (RN Sarah) had not applied a new patch that day. It was supposed to be changed on November 8th! Thanks to the malpractice of nurse Sarah (last name unknown), Justin endured over 24hrs of severe pain and suffering before a new Fentanyl patch was applied on November 9th. read more

Staff are great, attentive and caring, management listens to concerns as well. My mom is currently getting her physical therapy and my family is very thankful especially for therapists - Amir and Francis who works with my mom everyday in getting her back to her baseline. They are very compassionate, caring, patient and fun to work with and really dedicated in what they do. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Terrible place. They don't care to make your loved one better. Seeing your loved one barely cared for and when wanting answers almost every single person you talk to says "I don't know" or says they will "check on it" and don't get back to you until you ask again. If I could rate them 0 I really would. Totally unacceptable. My grandfather had open heart surgery a few weeks ago and was transferred here. Today, a nurse walked in and started giving him medication through an IV. A little while later the same nurse came back and took my grandfather off of the medication. The nurse then went and gave the other patient in the same room as my grandfather THE SAME MEDICATION they had just taken off of my grandfather. So first they gave my grandfather a medication that wasn't meant for him then gave another patient a USED bad of medication. While here my grandfather has received cuts and burns that have also not been treated properly and only seem to be getting worse. Thankfully he is being transferred as soon as possible but might be best to avoid this place unless you want to accompany your loved ones or want someone there with you 24/7. read more

My brother had a massive stroke that left him in a condition in which he can no longer depend on himself. We have navigated from hospital to hospital, and currently at Kindred hospital in Brea under the SUBACUTE UNIT. Among all the places he has been at for care, We have have had a chance to see care at its best and at its worse. Brea SUBACUTE care providers AMIR and MARGARITA are so compassionate. They push my brother to work hard and improve in his rehabilitation. They are empathetic and understanding of our pain and journey through this challenging time. They care!!! And then the CNA's BRENDA and CARMEN are undoubtedly the best when it comes to caring for him, ensuring he is clean and fed as if he were cared for by his family, as if he were a part of their family. The SUBACUTE unit (specifically only this part of the hospital) experience we have had is superb and we are thankful that our loved one is in a place we can trust but more that we have AMIR, MARGARITA, BRENDA & CARMEN to help and support my brother and the family during this difficult and challenging time. I would highly recommend ONLY this part of this hospital and these amazing health care providers. read more

I wish there could be a zero star rating. BEWARE OF THIS "HOSPITAL". Even though some of the nurses really do care about their patients, not all of them do. My family experienced this several times when My mom's nurse was Beatriz (last name unknown) because most nurses turn their badges so their name is not visible. I can guarantee you that upper management does not care about their patients, only how long will the insurance cover the stay...and they will move your loved one along at the 20 day mark or when insurance runs out. The CEO on his voice mail states that he "returns each and every call". I waited almost 3 weeks for a call back and got none, My sister and I did get a meeting with him, where he brought along the CFO, to let us know that my mom, who had had brain surgery 3 weeks earlier, was ready to be moved to another facility because Medicare was not going to continue paying...not to talk about my mom's care or well being, but to tell us that we needed to move her out of their facilities. My mom arrived 3 weeks after a tumor was removed from her brain. Her decline in health was visible within 2 days because the staff basically refused to wake her up and work with her. My mom needed to be awake in order for them to work with her. We asked on many different occasions for her to be woken up but they did not. They're severely understaffed, in my opinion, which makes it a place i do not recommend if you want your loved ones to progress. I could go on and on about them but it's been 2 weeks since my mom was rushed to the ER from this facility with continuous rectal bleeding and she is now under hospice care. Just beware and do your due diligence when looking at facilites. read more

He runs the place with little to zero amount of staffing to adequately meet patient and family needs.Now and also in this Corona pandemic, allows families to freely roam the facility to possibly spread infection, get infections,and endanger patients who are already comprised.Also, lets not forget and dismiss our front line personal who don't even have sufficient amounts of protective masks and NO N95 masks! This is regarding the daily care of turning/repositioning patients who cannot do so themselves. A patient dependent upon the RN, LVN, & CN need to make sure all their patient's needs are met plus that they are comfortable. If you have a loved one coming here, and they are 100% dependent on others, MAKE sure they are cleaned, changed, kept comfortable in every facet especially repositioning them every 2 hours. If they get busy or lazy, it might not happen until 4+ hours or not at all, especially in the evening. You'll see the evidence in bed sores. One star rating because this has happened 3 times in 10 days. Oh and did I mention, record all the care that happens. read more

This hospital is horrible! My sister is there long-term till she gets better and they leave her sitting in her bed of poop four hours before they come to check on her and they do not respond to the call button hardly at all. They have forgotten to give her dinner One night and they are supposed to be a hospital! Patient next to my sister pulled her tube out and as I was on the phone with my sister she was yelling for the nurse to the point where we hung up and I had to call the nurses station and talk to a supervisor for them to send somebody. DO NOT EVER BRING YOUR LOVED ONES HERE and let them take care; my mother was in the ICU for two weeks and fought for her life as she transferred from St Jude across the street. There is no one thing I could name about this place that is considered "Professional/Good Service," the nurses out here do not take good care AT ALL. As I mentioned, we were transferred from St. Jude; the patient's status was doing very well ever since she stayed in St. Jude; however, the second day of their care in kindred her status has been getting worst and worst, as we asked for help from the nurses and had to wait over 20+ minutes after contacting using the remote inside the room. Also the front desk workers have an awful attitude and do not know any other information besides checking in people; whatever you ask, the answer is "I don't know." The hospital does not let anyone under 18 get in, very stressful event for someone who's currently going through the situation specially their mother; times seeing the ones who are suffering are slowly getting less and less, there's nothing you could do to get in, if you ever wanted your family members who are under 18 to visit, there's no way for that. Besides all of this, the Sanitizing...it's just more than awful. There's nothing I could comment with such a disappointment, overall. Go to other hospitals if you don't want to see your loved ones suffer in this horrible place. read more

The way they handle and treat patients is literally questionable....I'm surprised this place is still open...I guess they're waiting for a law suit that will shut them down! read more
