While a lot of Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants serve gua bao, not many restaurants are dedicated to creating multiple varieties of bao. A cool fusion idea that's been around for a while, King Bao is the only place I know of in Orlando that serves bao. I was craving Asian food really badly, and decided to make the drive from Kissimee (where I was staying). It's very easy to miss the location driving at night, but once I parked I was able to find it. The restaurant is very small and seats a limited number of people - I actually had to wait to be seated. The baos were very fresh - I got the spicy chicken and crab cake baos, and both were incredibly tasty. If I was hungrier, I might have been able to order a couple more baos. With how flavorful everything is, I can appreciate why this place is so packed and popular on a Friday evening. read more

Finally tried King Bao! After all the goodness I heard about this spot, I have much anticipated this day. Working on this side of town I decided to give it a shot and MY, OH MY!! All I can really say is.. YUM! Between my hubby and I, we ordered the Firecracker shrimp, kickin chicken, pork belly, Glenn Rhee, and crab cake one (can't remember the name). So much goodness in each and every bite! My son devoured the truffle tots. I love that it's very affordable, the staff was friendly and service was quick. The location is kind of hidden and is easy to miss if you're driving passed it on Mills. I was glad to find there is a nice sized parking lot around back. Not to mention that the 3 bun special is such a great deal, that your tattooed friend that smokes every day won't hit you with the usual excuse that they're broke. I left there trying out 6 of the 8 bao's on their menu... and they were absolutely delicious. I could play russian roulette with their menu and wouldn't be upset with any bullet bao that hits me. I will say though, the firecracker shrimp and the Glen Rhee Bao took the GOLD. Get the tots too you won't regret it. Crispy Tofu is great, the Grouper is deeeeelish and I'm trying to figure out how they are doing a crab cake bao for $3.75. It's yummy, eat it. These baos are bomb.com. It's affordable and delicious. You can get the 3 bao for 9 bucks special that includes a drink or 2 bao for 7 (with drink). The wrap is so soft and steamy, the meat so tender and juicy!! The sauces are so flavorful and everything together IS JUST TO DIE FOR. They got weekly specials too and would totes recommend. Speaking of tots, also got the fire tots and it is amazing! Got the perfect amount of heat and the tots were PERFECTLY fried, crunchy and not soggy at all! I got a water with mine however it had that metallic iron taste...and they exchanged it to sprite for me for free! They also have these super cute bao drawings in the paper napkin holders...check them all out! They got Homer Simpson holding a bao too! We had the three Bao combo with a side of truffle tots and a Tarzan Bao for desert. The chicken tinga was juicy and tasty, the kickin' chicken was also very tasty and well cooked, and Mr. potato head was delicious. The tots were also crazy good. And if you are still hungry, the Tarzan is a perfect little desert. There are so many choices for the Baos, there is something for every eating habit. Prices are super reasonable. The Bao are so filling and so fluffy and the stuffings are such divine combinations of sweet, salty and spicy that we were compelled to try half a dozen of them! We ordered the Glen Rhee with Korean Short Rib & Kim Chi and the Kickin' Chickin with fried chicken, Kim chi, cucumber, sriracha aioli & scallions and also the pulled pork with pickles and Kim chi- ALL were so darn good and I just couldn't settle on a favorite! My husband heard great things about this restaurant from his coworkers so it was on our list of places to try. Unfortunately, it took us a couple months before trying it because we dont live in the immediate area. Parking was limited, but luckily there were a couple spots left when we arrived. When we left, there were people circling around for a spot. The restaurant is a small, but inviting space. The line was almost outside of the door when we entered and all of the tables were taken. The menu was displayed on the wall with bao artwork. The vibe of the place was relaxed and very hipsterish. My husband and I ordered 6 different baos and an order of tots. All of the baos were delicious! Our favorite ones were the 2 seafood ones we tried. The tots were delcious as well. The ones we ordered were topped with meat and cheese. Everything was delicious. Being how delicious and how much food we got, it was reasonably priced. However, I have never eaten baos before so have nothing to compare the price too. Upcharging me when I ordered a $9 combo, she changed it all around and it came out to be $14 and some change. Lady- how about a quick "ok just so you know your duck bao and your seafood bao doesn't apply to the $9 combo?" (There are fine prints on the wall menu but I don't think anyone in their right minds is gonna stand there and read the entire wall prior to ordering when they're HUNGRY!) Seafood baos is an $0.75 charge to a combo Duck bao isn't even part of the combo so that is $4.50 on its own. I mean not going to break the bank but definitely would like some kind of courtesy check prior to charging someone's card if the entire order isn't part of the "$9 combo". Whenever I think of "Bao", I think of Humbow; the Chinese dim sum sweet bun with pork filling I used to order in Seattle's Chinatown restaurants. It looked similar to a filled donut but savory in a steamed dumpling and enclosed or the Filipino Siopao. But this King Bao, totally different, in a good way! I love the different varieties they offer in every bao; each has its own unique taste. I've heard so much about this place, we decided for a bite to eat. We ordered the "Coco Loco" (coconut shrimp, mango relish, cilantro), "Oh Carolina" (kimchi slaw, pulled pork), "OMG" (tempura grouper, kimchi slaw, yuzu sauce, scallions), and "Inner Harbor" (crab cake, aioli, scallions). All of them taste good but my favorite was the "Oh, Carolina" because it had more flavor and whoever filled my boa, really hooked me up! We ordered about 3 each and then decided to pick more up. The "Inner Harbor" this time, taste better than the first only because my husband asked for more sauce. Only if they added a tad more sauce to all of them, I'd probably order another round. Later, we ended up taking home a couple to a friend of ours. As far as service goes, they're really fast. The line builds up and they just keep filling the orders quickly. First time visiting and generally the visit went well. I didn't see a way to order online in advance so I placed my order over the phone and it was hot & ready upon my given arrival time. That said, I was not really impressed by my food. The Baos had so much sauce covering them that I could barely figure out which one was which (I ordered 3 distinctly different baos). We ordered the firecracker hrimp bao and the Glenn gee bao (korean short ribs). The best one was definitely the shrimp bao! Delicious! Loved the combination of fried shrimp, the avocado and bun. We also ordered the taters with pork, cheese, cream cheese and jalapeño. The taters were delicious! We really wanted to try the desserts baos buy were too full. The prices were very reasonable. The place is small but the service is good and the food is great. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of their selection of baos and the dessert baos which sound super delicious! An easy menu of 8 different baos, 4 tots & 2 desserts makes choosing your meal easy. I enjoyed the Glen Rhee, marinated Korean short ribs topped with an Asian pear salsa. It's extremely flavorful and the salsa gives it that perfect touch. Also in my belly was the Inner Harbor which is a Maryland style crab cake with an incredible mustard aioli. I had the King Bao special. I had the Hogzilla and Glen Rhee, both fantastic. My favorite of the two was Glen Rhee, the Asian pear salsa was on point and gives it a bit of extra flavor. Also, had the Tarzan for Dessert, it's a nice simple dessert option...especially if you love nutella (who doesn't)! If you go hear for the first time, get the tots, any tots! You can view your food being made since the "kitchen" is out in the open and right behind the front counter. Once you place your order and pay, find a seat and they'll call your name when your order is up. I appreciated that were several vegetarian(and vegan-just ask) options in addition to all the meat options. Menu is pretty easy to figure out...Several kinds of bao on the menu with different fillings- in addition to tator tot sides and a few dessert choices. They do offer some combo deals where you can get 2 bao and a drink OR 3 bao and a drink(upcharge for seafood). I highly recommend taking advantage of this option to get the most bao for your buck. :) And maybe an order of tots to share. I had 2 of the Veganville (crispy tofu with a yummy relish) and ordered the Fire Tots to share with my friend. I really enjoyed everything but because the bao are like mini sandwiches, I would order 3-4 depending on how hungry you are.
