9/19/21: We simply came to get a drink because we got food from the Jamaican restaurant next door. I always like lemonade from the Chinese spots near my home, so I thought I couldn't go wrong here. The service was horrible...they weren't friendly at all. We didn't let that bother us because we just wanted a drink. We got 2 lemonades & took them home only to be surprised that it was YELLOW WATER!! No lemon taste. No sugar. I couldn't turn that into lemonade at home if I wanted to. This is a legit Chinese food spot. It was exactly what I was looking for! There's no unnecessary fancy shenanigans on their menu or in their restaurant. They have the expected quality at a good price point. Several other shops in the area fail miserably to hit the mark. King Chef is "Number 1"* in my book. * My favorite spot back home growing up was called "Number 1 Chinese Food". So that means something special coming from me. read more

Normal Chinese food for the area. Not really a dine in place but okay for the price. I like the Teriyaki chicken.

I ordered the Sesame Chicken and Lo Mein combo. The egg rolls are good but the entree was disgusting. I doubt the Sesame Chicken is real chicken, it has a spongy consistency. The Lo Mein noodles taste watery and overcooked. When I called to ask about possible options, the person on the phone fussed at me and told me I shouldn't have waited 2 hrs to call about my food. They further told me that I should've ate the food instantly (which I did). However, it is weird that they are telling me when I should eat my food. Their General Tso's Chicken is so good and tender! I have tried other Chinese take-outs but King Chef's GEneral Tso's chicken is tops in Raleigh. Their chicken (beef, too) and mixed vegetables are filling snd satisfying. read more

Your average Chinese takeout. Their dinner combo meals were $7.45 which includes pork fried rice and an egg roll. We got a hunan chicken combo and a kung pao chicken combo. Wasn't terrible but wasn't magnificent either so thus the middle ground is mediocre. Good for a one and done if you don't live around the area. read more

Ordered the beef and broccoli meal. Over all the food wasn't terrible but the fried rice that I paid a dollar extra to add shrimp was not what I consider as Chinese rice. It was yellow rice shrimp ($1) with just a few pieces of onion and carrots in it. The rice for me is what makes the dish. Now I was there when someone brought the rice over to a lady in the kitchen who had on a mask but her nose was completely uncovered. The entire container of rice looked yellow. I'm guessing that I'm use to Chinese fried rice being made with bean sprouts, onions, carrots, green onions, eggs or something other than plain rice and definitely not just YELLOW RICE. read more

I'm at this Chinese restaurant and a lady picks up her order she asks the guy for two hot sauces. The guy looks at her and says "NO! Only one!" gave her one and walked away. She walked out. Why do we let these businesses treat us that way. We are the customer. They are not doing us any favors by taking our money. Give me two or my money back! Love the food here. It's a typical Chinese takeout restaurant as far as the menu, but the food is very good. The portions are huge. I'm usually about to stretch a dinner combination (which I pay around $8 for) over about 2.5/3 meals. Definitely get my money's worth. I live about a minute from the location so I'll call it in then get into my car and drive over and usually my food is almost ready or ready to go! read more

I've avoided this place for years just based on appearance, but out of desperation and with everything else closed, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the Beef Chow Mai Fun and the Roasted Pork Egg Foo Young. The Beef dish was pretty close to perfect. The meat was tender and had a nice peppery flavour, and there was plenty of egg, onions and peppers throughout. I love that they slice the peppers and onions thin, so they incorporate nicely with the noodles. There really wasn't anything I could suggest to improve on that dish. The Egg Foo Young on the other hand was a bit of a disappointment. It was a perfectly fine dish, but the place we normally go to has a really spectacular version, and I guess I am spoiled on that one. This one was pretty bland, and didn't have as much pork as I'm used to. The one I love has large chunks of flavourful pork, but this one only had the tiny pieces like you normally see in a fried rice. Luckily, a sprinkle of garlic powder and a generous smattering of hot chili oil did the trick to bring it up to spec. I must say, the portion was much bigger than what we normally get for the price. read more

The food is not good at all. When I called and asked how long it would be, they replied 10 minutes. I was skeptical it would be good from there. I was right, it wasn't. Kung Pao Chicken, with non existent chicken. A whole lotta peanuts, but no chicken. Shrimp with lobster sauce that was more of a shrimp soup. Pepper steak with again hardly any steak. Fried rice was boring and flavorless. Won ton soup was good. Oh and they gave me a 2 liter bottle of soda for free for spending so much. They were friendly. Fu Kee is so much better. This place isn't that bad, however I wouldn't recommend it. I've ordered food from here and I've seen them be racist to those of color. Seriously an issue when their primary customers are African American or Hispanic. Food is ok, haven't had that many issues with it. It's not the tastiest though. This Chinese restaurant must be under new management. The customer service is poor. The man at the front counter is rude over the phone and in person. I will not be returning. Also, the portion sizes are smaller and they only give plain fried rice with their meals so they SAY. Save yourself.... wasted $$$ and find a better Chinese restaurant. read more

I watched an employee drop a piece of chicken on the ground, use his tongs to pick up that same piece of chicken off of the floor, throw it away, then continue use the tongs to place chicken in peoples trays. Flipping nasty! I could tolerate this place until I saw that. The price for lunch is awesome and you get a ton of food, but I just can't stomach walking into King Chef after witnessing the tong incident.... read more

King Chef is a decently good Chinese take out. I had the sesame chicken with fried rice and an egg roll. I'm very picky about my egg rolls and theirs was amazing. The chicken and rice was great as well. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

We are fans of the Chicken with Broccoli. We order with a little spice added and it always is great. Good for take out.

The general tso's is by far the best I have ever had. The boneless spare ribs are pretty awesome too. The prices are unbeatable for the amount of food you get. The lunch special is 4.50(ish) and you get a boat ton of food. The hot sauce they have is rockin as well. read more

The food is ok, but the employees are horrible. They treat people as if they are beneath them simply because they are located in an urban neighborhood. They won't apologize nor refund your money if they get your order wrong. They will also treat you like a criminal and insist you pay before they will begin your order. After visiting this place and having them get our order wrong even after having the man repeat it back to me and two other people heard me place the correct order, we found a bug in our food when we got home. We called King Chef and the man on the phone was rude to us and tried to refuse to give us back our money. We took a picture of the bug and are returning the food to them, which is ludicrous considering we have proof of the bug. Please believe we would have thrown the food out. Lo mein, fried jumbo shrimp and egg drop soup, you can't go wrong with these, I frequent there when I was working in Raleigh, it's not the best in the world, but good enough for me, just regular Chinese food but the noodle is good and tasty, shrimp is fresh, soup is yummy. I've complimented this place before, but I'm doing it again because they f*ckin' DESERVE IT! I don't often compliment places on their food, but this place is phenomenal! I mean it's not a place you'd want to take a date because it is primarily a take out joint. However, the prices are absolutely reasonable and the food is beyond great! I tend to judge Chinese places by 3 things....pork fried rice, egg rolls, and the Chicken Teriyaki. Let me tell ya, this place f*ckin' rocked all 3! The egg rolls are big and fat and have actual pork in them and they are only $1!! The pork fried rice has peas, carrots, onions, AND ACTUAL PORK! Now the Chicken Teriyaki (Chicken on a Stick) is freakin' HUGE! The price is crazy cheap for the amount of chicken you get and it tastes like gold. Do yourself a favor and visit this joint for take out. Seriously. Oh yeah, the portions are CRAZY large....like if you had to feed a family of four, just order 2 combination deals and 2 extra egg rolls. You'll have leftovers, I SWEAR! read more
