I've been ordering from them for a couple of years and always liked it ... not the best ever, but normally good with quick delivery .. tonight ...no more. Ordered 2 dinners that arrived almost an hour after ordering and no dipping sauce for steamed dumplings and dinners were cold. But -- it got worse. Good Chinese takeout. We always order General Tso's and the Pork Egg Foo Yung. We've never had a problem with our orders.

I've ordered from this restaurant many times and usually the cuisine has been good, however there have been a few exceptions. The most recent time I ate here the sesame chicken combo did not taste completely fresh and I think I had a very slight case of food poisoning after. It wasn't that big of a deal, however it's clear the food, esp. the pork fried rice, was not served completely fresh. Please make sure all the food is fresh upon being served. I asked someone here about it and they did not seem to listen either. Also, the fried chicken wings here are small and not as good IMO as some other places. Based on some of the other reviews here too, there needs to be more attention given to some of the food preparation. read more

My apologies for not updating this sooner. As of 2 years ago I stopped ordering food from them. Unsure if it was a chef change but quality started to suffer dearly. Just 1 small example would be a order of cheese wontons I ordered 1/2 of them were spoiled and other 1/2 it seemed to me were re-fried and dripping of oil. read more

Unfortunately had a stinky experience tn that really shook the foundation of the delicious food relationship I once had with King Chef.:( Placed an order and unfortunately my fav kiddo doubled the chicken and string beans, which I specifically ordered to be garlic sauce and ended up being brown sauce (which she insisted it was not). Had I known before I left, I would not have paid for and taken the second order of the chicken and string beans which I didn't really need. Might be taking a King Chef break for a little while. If you expect the Royal treatment at King's Chef, you will be disappointed. If you expect mediocre strip mall Chinese food, you may still be disappointed. The orange beef was tough and chewy, without the crisp coating that defines the dish. A miss of the dartboard completely....disappointing. Worse still was the sesame chicken. The chef was so lazy that he merely sprinkled the sesame seeds onto the dish rather than mix them in the sauce. They were like an afterthought garnish rather than intrinsic to the dish. Sad really.... So King's Chef may be fit for a King, but it is more like King Kong Bundy. Even Midas could not turn this place to gold. read more

Ordered from here today based off the fact that they delivered a menu to my office a few weeks back. I wanted to treat the troops to a pre-thanksgiving meal, so I decided to order from King Chef, using their online system. We had 10 orders of food to put in, and the online ordering system couldn't be easier. Very intuitive, especially with the lunch specials to put in the choices made by my colleagues for type of rice, soup, and any special instructions. I put the order in online at quarter to 11am for a 12 noon delivery on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, which in this area is traditionally a busy time frame. The order arrives at 12pm on the dot to my office building in Hauppauge. All the food is accounted for, included an additional order I had to call in for. The only issue was discerning whose meal was whose, but that was figured out very quickly. In terms of the quality of the food, everybody commented on how good the food was. Chinese food is hard to screw up, but some places are better than others at the basics, and I would say that King Chef does a great job in the Chinese food space for sure. They know what they are doing at this place. In terms of the physical location of this store, I know of it, and it's a pretty nondescript on Main street in Smithtown across from the CVS, but I've never been inside it to comment on the restaurant portion of the location. I did speak with somebody at this location to confirm the order, and while it was obvious that English was not their native tongue, this did not diminish the level of customer service I received. I like vinegar on my salad but not on my Pad Thai! It was probably the worst Chinese food I've had in a very long time. The shrimp toast was too dry and even the sesame noodles gave my stomach a bad reaction. All the dishes we ordered were bad in their own entity. I don't recommend coming here. read more

This place has the best boneless ribs I've ever had. You get actual meat, rather than a ton of fat and burnt pieces. General Tso chicken is good (and meaty, rather than just a ton of bread) but the beef/chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce lacks some flavor. I love that they have scallion pancakes. Very disappointed in the meal we had from King Chef. We moved to Smithtown from Huntington and this was the first Chinese food we tried in Smithtown. The sesame noodles were the worst we've ever had from a fast food Chinese restaurant. After a few bites we through it in the garbage. I ordered the sesame chicken and my husband ordered the shredded pork with garlic sauce. The sesame chicken was inedible - all batter and the batter was not fully cooked. The pork was "ok" and we ended up sharing that and eating most of it. Too many other choices to waste time trying this place again. read more

We tried King's Chef for the first time this past Friday and were severely disappointed. Our bill was just over $58.00 for mediocre food. We live in Queens so we are used to very good Chinese food, but with Covid 19, most places are closed right now, so we gave this place a try. First, I was shocked when I was told how much the bill was because I totaled the bill according to their website, which came to about $14.00 less. Second, I ordered shredded beef with garlic sauce and when I got home I had been given shredded pork with garlic sauce (I guess that was my fault for not checking while I was there), third, I was supposed to be given a full free meal when spending over $50.00, which I clearly did. I called when I got home and was told that I ordered the shredded pork. The woman clearly heard me when I ordered because she repeated my order to me. Then, when I complained about the website price being so different, she said that's because they hadn't updated their website REALLY?!?! So, the public has to be screwed because you're lazy? I'm sure this is done on purpose to get more money out of people. Thirdly, I asked about the free meal and was told they don't give it unless the customer asks for it. Again, REALLY?!?! TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service. I got no apology. What a shame because we probably would have gone back. Disappointing at best. read more

Not sure why Yelp says this place is closed--it isn't, and people who like simple Chinese food should know about it. Let's face it, most Chinese take-out kitchens are pretty bad.
