Everything about this place is amazing. I love the ambience, the friendly staff, the food (is so high-quality and well thought out), the music, the fresh floral arrangements, the wine selection. There is not enough nice things to say about this place honestly. I've been here multiple times, and have been hooked ever since my first time. It would be perfect for a date night, girls hang, catch up with friends, or even a celebration. We didn't know much about the wine they had on their wine list, but their owners gave us a wonderful description and suggested amazing bottles to partake in. My only critique is that I wish I could drink more bottles of wine in a setting ha ha. Make sure you go here if you're looking for a wonderful wine bar.

Small Hours is officially my new favorite wine bar in Minneapolis! The vibe was perfect with cozy tables, natural light, and vinyl music. We were lucky enough to be there during golden hour which added to the overall aesthetic. It was the perfect mix of mellow yet romantic in the best way. The owner was lovely, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful when assisting us in choosing the bottle of wine that fit our taste. Make sure to try this spot for your next happy hour or date night! I will be returning for sure :)

So much to like here with a few downsides. What I loved: 1. The concept. No one else is doing great tinned fish selections. This can hang with the best of Portugal, Spain, and Denmark. Simply served but some great quality abounds. Don't miss the Smoked Coho or the Fangst offerings from Copenhagen. 2. Boutique wine offerings from lesser known bio-sensitive producers and hidden worldwide regions. Even if you are a wine know-it-all, there are some interesting selections here to pique your interest. 3. That feel of a true neighborhood gem. This could easily be a small storefront in a European local neighborhood. It was unique for MN but feels so correct for the community. Why have we not seen something like this sooner? What I was less fond of: 1. It is a bit too cozy. The interior space is small and the perimeter seating is tight. While it could be great if you were looking for a date night spot forcing you to be up-close and personal with your party, it felt like everyone was jammed in like tinned sardines (pun intended). This would be a terrible spot to try to bring a larger group to and would be uncomfortable for those that may not know each other well. 2. The price point is pretty high. While there is good quality here, it is still tinned fish and lesser known biodynamic wine producers. I have been blessed to travel a lot and have had some of the exact same wines and tins in Europe. The markup here for these things approaches 150%. This is not exactly unheard of in many restaurants but keep in mind that this is kind of a semi-self serve spot where you have to go to the counter to place orders and pay your tab so it is not a full service restaurant. They also add in an auto service charge/gratuity so the markups are steep. 3. They were out of several things that we ordered. I am used to places running out of things towards the end of night because the fresh product that they have is gone. They only bring in so much fresh stuff daily. That is not what happened here. They were out of specific bottled wines and tinned fish products...these are things that hold for long periods of time on a shelf so running out of those suggests their inventory is too small for their demand. That needs to be corrected for a place that is primarily serving bottled wines and preserved fish. Would I go back? Yes, absolutely because I want to support creative operations like this and I do like the concept and the offerings. But it will be largely for a date night scenario when I am not starving and the markups will prevent it from being in any kind of a regular rotation for me.

Small Hours is a small place with a small menu. But the food is delicious - the pork belly was a standout. Modern vibe with vinyl albums playing in the background. The menu is quite limited, but they have an extensive wine list. Order at counter and yet they add themselves a tip. Tin fish?

Icelandic Cod. Perfectly cooked with fresh garden tomato puree with nice clean tangy flavors.

During a business trip in December 2024, I was dining alone and in search of a quiet spot to enjoy a glass of wine and some small plates. That's when I stumbled upon Small Hours, and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. It brought to mind the Japanese "listening bars" I've read about (small bites, small menu, etc.), which are common in Tokyo and very uncommon in the USA. I returned in July 2025 and felt compelled to leave a review. Small Hours offers a cozy and minimalist setting, with simple seating and a clean aesthetic. The warm lighting and impeccably balanced sound system create an inviting atmosphere where you can easily have a conversation without raising your voice. The service was exceptionally attentive, and the selection of small plates was impressive. I recommend ordering some tins along with the menu items. The diverse wine selection is also worth exploring. The kitchen staff are top notch flavor experts and use only the freshest of ingredients. Both of my dining visits were excellent. I truly had a curated food and wine experience tailored just for me. Overall, this was an incredibly satisfying meal and experience. As I plan my next upcoming trip to Japan, I now have a wonderful benchmark to compare against the listening bars I hope to visit in Tokyo in late 2025.

I immediately replied Vinai & she told me she booked us a reservation & I was excited for 2 weeks until we arrived. AMBIANCE: It feels like a more upscale trendy Asian spot but still felt warm, airy, and welcoming. Folks were both dressed up and casual. Our server was nice, but did think it was funny how she explained "family style" to a table of Asian folks but I guess it's safer not to assume. FOOD: It was all delicious but my fav was the Laab Carpaccio-that's a must get! We also enjoyed the Fun Fun Egg Noodles & Hmong Cucumbers for something healthier & then the pork chop. It was def worth paying extra for the green hot sauce & for some extra sticky rice. We also enjoyed our cocktails and mango sticky rice dessert. Yes it's a bit spendy but I would say it's worth it & can't find any of these dishes at Hmong Village :) Lastly, I saw the owner of the restaurant join the table next to us. I was so close to leaning over and giving him a high-five but resisted embarrassing my friend, but maybe next time!

I'm sure lots of you are wondering what this means. Well, IMO there are lots of Asian restaurants in the Twin Cities that try to elevate the food for what is typically considered cheap Asian street/home-cooked food so they can charge a premium price. Most of them do it very poorly. This place actually hits the mark on most of their dishes. This is not just a trendy place for less familiar Caucasian patrons, but can be enjoyed by those familiar with the flavors. Service: 1/1 Staff was attentive and provided excellent service. I was seated in a busier spot, and the servers always made an effort to give me plenty of space. Ambiance: 1/1 The seating was clean and spacious, and the lighting was not too bright or too dim. It is street parking, but it is manageable with the nearby neighborhoods.

Overall personable guy and went out his way to ensure we were good and had some background about golf and MN golf culture. Very genuine. Let the record reflect that I'm not saying that because he's from Chicago (the best city to Eva do it ) ijs Price: Very reasonably priced with options to golf for 30 mins increments. Great lightening, private party spaces and the bar area is nice. We had the absolute best server who was just amazing! So outgoing and made the visit enjoyable. Just an absolute delight and I heard others complimenting his as well. He really made our Mother's Day brunch enjoyable. Food was great: Mediterranean chop salad looked amazing and was said to be very good. Eggs, bacon and toast were good. American breakfast- good potatoes. Breakfast sandwich was good. Amazing sauce on the arugula. Breakfast tacos were also said to be good with really good tortillas. Bloody Mary was pretty good. It didn't have all the bells and whistles with it, but it was a great spicy flavor. This place is a gem and checked all the boxes. I am sure it is quite packed in the warmer months. Excellent music playlist and clean restrooms. Highly recommend this place!
