I chose to get the gyro dinner plate, and while the chicken may have been dry, it was pretty good. The toppings of onions, tomatoes, sour cream, and whatever the sauce was delicious. I would recommend possibly getting more of the sauce to put on the gyro as you first begin to eat it because you won't get it until you're almost halfway done (I added Louisiana hot sauce onto and mine, which made it so much better). The fries were 4/5 with a good crunch and an adequate amount of saltiness, but that potato rice was ok, definitely more of a 3.5 out of 5 because it could use more flavor. The inclusion of the tender steak in it though really made up for it. Overall, I think if it was less expensive I would rate it higher, but for the price and amount of food you get, it is somewhat worth it. At least give it a try to know if you hate it. read more

The guy who made the burger did not wear gloves and did not wash his hands. After making our burger he went to the register inside (we were in the drive through) and took someone else's order. He handled their money and began making their meal without wearing gloves and washing his hands. After that, he started sweeping the floor. We could not get a refund as the card was already charged. Omaha has the nations highest rate of flu viruses and everyone should know that is how their food will be prepared. We will never eat there again. read more

I love the steak special on Sundays. I have ordered it at least a dozen times! Out of that dozen times they have forgotten to make it at least six times. While waiting all of my other company receive their orders where I have to go back and explain that they missed mine. If this happened one time no big deal but half the time, not cool King Kong. The best deal to get here is the steak special which comes with French fries and a greek salad. I usually add two dollars of Gyro meat on the side and make a makeshift Gyro to accompany the already large amount of food that I am about to put down. As a huge and probably the number one fan of Heinz fifty- seven sauce they do not have the name brand dream sauce but a not as tasty knock off taste alike. I've always liked king kong but the last few visits have been disappointing. First off,that speaker/ intercom system whatever it's called where they take the orders needs to go!!!! Lol. Phillys are good here but made me terribly ill. So I'm sort of scared to eat one again. One of my favorite places for a quick lunch when I visit Omaha. I usually hit it up with my cousin (we refer to it as "Fring Frongs" for no particular reason at all) and always come away feeling well-fed. Portions are really plentiful and affordable. I usually go for the philly plate, but the gyros are great too. Free refills of soda are a plus. There is usually a surprising number of cop cars parked outside -- the law likes to eat here. They don't accept credit cards, but there's an ATM right inside. read more

When we pulled up, I was a little taken aback by the odd menu format, but who cares we are getting 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 cokes. I was pretty stoked when I opened the takeout box and saw a giant burger, it looked so good I took a huge bite......a combination of custom season and 5 year old gyro grease filled my mouth. It was odd, but I tried to power thru because I had lobbied hard to make this stop over others. 3 bites in was all I could take, we threw the rest away and got back on I-80....so sad I had high hopes for that giant ape....but in the end he fell off the Empire State Building....somewhere in the back of my mind I knew he would. 2 and a half stars at best...Living here the last couple years, I've been curious about this joint...finally made an appearance today, and upon walking in, I was taken aback by the rather unpleasant smell that awaited me...Normally a place should smell appetizing, not like an unwashed hobo...but I soldiered on...The register jockey who took my order wasn't the most friendly of people...Not Walmart level, but could certainly use a lesson or two in customer relations...I ordered the double Kong and a small drink...$13 is what I paid...I almost had a heart attack, and this was before eating...I sat down and proceeded to eat what I felt was a decent but otherwise unremarkable burger...certainly not worth the violation to my wallet...plus the general decor and lack of cleanliness was a turnoff...will I come back? One nice thing about King Kong is, if you need a police officer, you are sure to find one here. I think every time I have been here, so has a cop. I have primarily eaten their gyros, which are great. Typical gyros with the reconstituted lamb meat, really really strong onions and lots of the yummy white sauce. And don't forget the lightpink anemic tomato chunks. But they are good. I enjoy their gyro plate, which includes a greek salad (good feta) and greek potatoes. The fries are really good, they have some kind of seasoning salt on them. This is great hangover food. I have had their burgers, which are also good. And they have a daily special, and when it's steak--go for it. Like the other reviewer, I am always surprised that it is primarily Asian's that work in here. They only take cash, which is a huge inconvenience in this day and age. I was excited to walk there for lunch today but not so excited when I saw what I planned to order - the gyro salad - was $12.00. Since I was already there and hungry, I got it to go. It really was not very good, I ended up throwing half of it away. The dressing, feta and tomatoes were good but the meat was bland and the pieces of lettuce were those yucky bits. King Kong must be pretty proud of their $11.00 Gyro salad. In my personal opinion, lunch salads should not be more than $6-$7, why is this not the case!? I stopped here for a salad, and the lot was packed, with very few parking spots. I walked in, and took a gander at the menu and basically a lunch here is going to set you back $10-$15. I assumed it was it's proximity to the zoo, maybe not. Maybe the new white Mercedes in the lot was the owners and the prices reflect how that vehicle was purchased. I watched the person make this: 4 chunks of pink tomato, 2 olives, 2 banana peppers, 3 cubes of feta cheese, a pile of wet gyro meat, oh and the piece of pita. I grabbed a take out cup of cucumber sauce next to the counter, when I saw the cashier almost pipe up to tell me that was an extra cost, but she rolled her eyes and went back to barking orders at the grill cook. This salad was good, and huge, but when you ladle 2 servings of red wine vinegar dressing, it's not possible to eat this left over. So I saved the meat and will probably bring my own lettuce from home and eat this tomorrow. I hadn't been to this King Kong for a few years, and last time it was drive thru. I think even then I thought 'holy moly, why is this so expensive?!' Anyway, I'll continue to search for a hearty, reasonably priced salad elsewhere. This restaurant is a scam I try to order a grill chicken sandwich the lady at the register. Charge me for a $13 meal and tells me no refund after they make it. I had a double mushroom burger, fries and a very small coke. They charged me $20.15. I should have walked out when I saw the price but I'm not afraid to pay for good food. Stay far far away! We came in and my son ordered the 1/2 lbs cheeseburger with fries for $13, and the Hubs ordered the gyro. While we were waiting we watched the grill man put more than 10 patties on the grill, with no one in drive-thru, and only 1 other couple that already had their food, we thought this was a little strange. So we get our food and proceed back to the house. I think my son ate 2 bites and said that was the grossest burger he ever ate. Thankfully the Gyro was good so the Hubs split it with our son. ( I think they pre-cook the burgers and put them in a warming drawer, also all the patties looked uniform which tells me they might be frozen.) I have come to King Kongs (Dodge St location) for years but only for their Gyros, which are very good. A friend convinced me that their steaks are even as good. So being a little hesitant I tried one. It comes with a Greek salad and rice and potatoes. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. For the price you really cannot beat this. Maybe overly seasoned, but it is Greek. I will try them again for sure. read more

They are cash only which is probably why we don't utilize their drive-thru very often, that and the fact that sometimes it is hard to communicate with the person on the other side of the mic. The food is distinct. The burgers stick with you for awhile, the gyros and salads are awesome. The fries are some of my very favorites. King Kong is a truly Omaha fast food joint. All the portions are huge, the prices are cheap(relative to the portion size), and you're best off avoiding any sides and sticking to the main options. The burgers are probably the best fast food burgers you're going to get in the area, maybe even anywhere. Everything that you want out of a burger you get in a Kong burger. It's got just enough grease, a sturdy bun, no excessive toppings, and they're cooked to order. They're huge, too. The gyro meat is exactly what you'd expect out of drive-thru fast food gyro meat... kinda dry and leaves something to be desired...but you get a lot of it. If you're going to get a side, go for the Greek salad- they actually use romaine lettuce(well, at least partially) and feta cheese and kalamata olives. The fries, while well seasoned with some sort of garlic-pepper-etc dusting, are typically soggy and greasy, probably due to the oil they're using not being hot enough. So why did I give this place a 4-star rating? The burgers. Damn, they're good. Only way I like a burger better is if I'm grilling it. read more

Ordered gyro, philly steak with everything, side of fries, baklava from the counter to go. Staff was friendly and efficient, Food was ready in just a few minutes and they even offered me a free pop when I picked up the order. All of the food was still hot when I got home- the philly was almost too hot to hold even after 15 minutes. The philly was appropriately messy and delicious. I might have wished for a bit more cheese as it was a little dry. The gyro was big and tasty. The side of fries was plenty for two people. After 20 or so minutes in the foam clamshell, they were a little soggy but good. I needed to add a bit more salt. The baklava was also good, and maybe just a little dry as well. The portions were big, and the prices were acceptable- the sandwiches were under $8, the big side of fries and baklava were about $2.50 each. About 7 years ago I had dabbled King Kong. I was not impressed at the time because the burgers reminded me of elementary school cafeteria burgers. The size of the burger looked amazing but you didn't know what the heck you were eating. I was half way through the burger hoping to get satisfaction and it never came. Recently I tried it again while I was waiting for a tow truck. I was very hungry and being I had to walk to a place from the zoo and Omaha steak burgers are equally or more disappointing, I thought I would try it again. The onion rings I bought were good but I paid $15 for a single burger, onion rings and a small soda. The burger was flavorless like I had remembered. It was immediately ready because they keep their burgers in water. THE WORST BURGER IN OMAHA AND SURROUNDING AREA. They have signs on their window saying Omaha Magazine's Best of 2016, 1st place. I was on the fence about whether to give it 3 stars or 4, but ultimately I feel like 4 is fair for food and overall experience. The service was just a little iffy...and I have heard that this place is family owned so I guess I was kind of hoping for actual Greek people making Greek food, but I guess they do have multiple locations... Anyway. I can't get enough gyros in my life. Theirs didn't disappoint, and they have enormous portions. I'm pretty sure their kids meals have the same amount of food as the adult portions, and I'm also pretty sure we could have split one meal between our 3 kids. My boyfriend got a burger the size of his head and an order of fries, which I shared with him. I could barely finish my gyro and knew I probably wouldn't need to order anything else. We stopped here for lunch on our way to the zoo, it was fairly busy but clean and they were pretty fast and efficient.
