Fried pork, rice and beans and plantains

I am so excited I found this place. Quick and convenient location for a yummy latin fix. I ordered rice and beans, fried pork and plantains. The pork and plantains were fried at the moment so it took a few minutes to get my order but oh so worth it. Good amount of food for great price. While waiting I was looking at the rest of the items on the menu and will definitely go back to try some other dishes. The staff was friendly, personable and worked as a team. There were a few people waiting for some freshly roasted chickens to come out of the rotating grill. As soon as that happened all orders were expedited quickly and with a smile.

1/2 Chicken Meal w/ Plantain and Fried Rice

Stopped here for some Peruvian chicken and sides and it did not disappoint. The macaroni salad/cheese and fried rice, as well as the plantains were all very good. The chicken was great along with the green and yellow sauces that came with it. Would definitely come back.

Whole Peruvian chicken!

I gotta give it up for King Pollo! This restaurant mini chain has been around since '08, first starting off out in Sterling. The menu is the same, offering items such as Peruvian chicken, sides (white rice, fried rice, beans & rice, beans, green beans, steamed veggies, potato salad, onion salad, yuca, steak fries, plantains, macaroni salad, spaghetti, and salad), entrees (carne asada, carne desilada, bistec ensebollado, pollo a la crema, pollo saltado, chicarrones, etc.), pupusas, soups, subs, salads, breakfast items, desserts, and beverages. The hubs and I love getting their whole Peruvian chicken, and even though it doesn't look that big of a chicken, it actually is of a decent size, full of meat, and tons juiciness! I also love that both the skin and the meat are flavorful - the skin is lightly crisp and has a perfect amount of seasoning, not missing a mm; the meat inside is never dried out and has always been super tender. I also dig the fact that the chicken doesn't form a pool of 'liquid' - the juices seem to be locked in! For the sides, I usually stick with the white rice, that is always fluffy and seems to be ever-so-slightly seasoned; the hubs like their salad, as he's a fan of their light honey mustard vinaigrette. The big bonus is that their sauces are limitless when you dine-in - the aji sauce is more mustard-y in flavor and complements the chicken well. Feel free to get a bottle for your table, or ask for one of those disposable mini paper trays to get a good amount of sauce! The staff here are friendly, makes sure that your orders are accurate, and are pretty efficient in moving the line along. The lunch and the dinner rush gets a bit overwhelming, but just be patient! There are some tables inside to dine-in, or you're more than welcome to do a carry-out. Plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot. For great Peruvian chicken that is consistent all the time, check King Pollo out :D +juicy Peruvian chicken +unlimited aji sauce when you dine-in :D +white rice :D +generous portions! +friendly and sweet employees! :D +free parking in shared plaza lot

a hand holding a piece of food

i get big piece of plastic at my food when into my mouth thinking was food now i feeling like throwing out. never again

The cost of disappointment!

The food is trash and a rip off! The chicken is unseasoned, the sides were cold, the spaghetti looks like it came out of a can, the vegetable melody out of a bag, and the salad...icberg and tomatos. To top it off, the soda had a label price of 99 cents but I was charged $2! Even the sauce was horrible. This was the worst "so called" Peruvian food that I've ever tasted. I was unable to ask any questions about the food because no one spoke English! Where did the 4 stars come from?

Eat it.

Cheap. Tasty. They let you pick from a ton of different sides for the half a chicken.

Chicken is good. Maybe the rice. Stay away from the other sides. Also pay attention there are always flies around the food.

The chicken seemed old and rather tasteless. Two stars for the quick delivery (from a third party company.)

I've been twice now and brought different people each time. The indoor seating is spacious, and it's usually pretty easy to get a table. The music is at a comfortable level, so you can actually have a conversation without shouting, which I really appreciate. I can't speak for the drinks since I didn't order any, but the food is excellent. My standout dishes were the corazon anticuchos. The chimichurri they come with is incredibly flavorful. The pescado a lo macho is also fantastic; it has a rich, curry-like sauce served with white rice, and the combination is genuinely comforting. Definitely don't skip the tostones. We tried the pork tostones, and the portion of pork on top was generous to say the least. That said, I would personally skip the pork belly bao buns, the meat was a bit too tough for my liking. The desserts are good, but I'd recommend sharing them, as they can get quite heavy after a few bites. Overall, I'll definitely be coming back. This has become a new go-to spot in DC for me. Ceviche Mixto: Light and Refreshing. Decent. Coredero Con Raviolis: Lamb Ravioli. A little gamey.

El Pollo Rico was my first Peruvian chicken spot. After over 15 years since this experience I've…read morepatronized quite a few different places and ventured back to where the journey began to compare. Spoiler Alert: It's number 1. Though what I really like about the place changed. When I first went all they offered was Chicken, Cole slaw, and fries. In a world of many option I actually thought this sent a message that we are so good we only offer a limited choice that's you will enjoy. Tbf the fries can't compete w McD or Chikfila Waffle fries but they were good. The service counter is modernized and they are efficient and friendly. The layout if the restaurant is still basic like the limited menu they used to have. No frills no gimmicks just good food. Still the same vibe The chicken was still very good. Other places are fairly close but Apollo Rico is just a touch better. The charred seasoning is evident. What tipped the scales for me in comparison to other places I've been is the green sauce. It liked fresh. It wasnt like other places where that has the consistency of ketchup it looked bright green and freshly made vs other places where it seems as if it was poured out a container.

We ordered a half chicken with yuca and beans as the sides. It was very quick, we got our food within seconds it felt like. The chicken was probably the most flavorful kind of Pollo a la Brasa that I have had. It wasn't too greasy either. Just very tasty. The beans were delicious!! I didn't think I would like them as much. The yuca was pretty good too. Nice and crispy. I do wish they had slightly more options for sides, maybe even an Arroz Chaufa. This is a no frills kinda place so don't expect anything too fancy. But it is clean! And that's what makes it more authentic and fun in my opinion! Will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

All the Staff was super and checked on us constantly, never felt abandoned outside (we were only ones). We went with Family meal and a side order of Pupusas (2 for $10). Your choice of spinach/cheese, beef or chicken. We stuck with water to drink. The chicken was delicious, we have our favorite in Alexandria, but this chicken was very good. The sides were good, fries, yucca and rice. The sauces complemented everything (green & white). We asked for ketchup, they did provide some packets (perfer an actuall ketchup bottle when dining in). The Papusas were not a big hit with the table. Overall, a good option if in the area. Especially for the price which was way better than expected for area.

But the shrimp saltado was forgettable, and the chicha morada was a letdown -- mostly ice, barely any flavor. It tasted like purple-tinted water, not the real thing. I bought two empanadas to bring home to my mother and asked specifically for two chicken. The employee at the register was friendly, but kept nudging me toward one beef, one chicken. I said no. I explained my mother doesn't eat beef. She bit into one at home and stopped. It was beef. There was no way to know from the outside. I understand that mistakes can happen, but it was disappointing to receive the wrong empanada after I had specifically explained that my mother does not eat beef. What made the situation even more concerning was that the beef did not seem fresh. In addition, while the empanada looked properly baked and golden on the outside, the dough inside was still undercooked. Unfortunately, this experience changed my overall impression of the restaurant.
