This is a good place to come for a quick bite. I came in here recently for dinner. I got carne guisada ($14.99) and an horchata drink ($3.50). I want to be able to give a better review, but each time we've ordered it's just a little off. Not enough to be serious, but never getting the order right is a concern. First time was a 1/2 chicken with fries and fried rice. While it was tasty, it showed up with the plain, white rice. Lomo saltado has been right on each time. Another order misstep was the yuca con chicharron, which says it comes with a tomato sauce, cabbage salad, and two tortillas. Now it made it with the pork and yuca, but no tomato sauce, no cabbage, and no tortillas. Again, meal was very tasty. I even ordered a side of the fried rice and it was really good, so much so that I wish my first order had come correct. Hopefully it's a couple of small missteps as the food has been good and I'd be willing to give it one more shot. read more

I am so excited I found this place. Quick and convenient location for a yummy latin fix. I ordered rice and beans, fried pork and plantains. The pork and plantains were fried at the moment so it took a few minutes to get my order but oh so worth it. Good amount of food for great price. While waiting I was looking at the rest of the items on the menu and will definitely go back to try some other dishes. The staff was friendly, personable and worked as a team. There were a few people waiting for some freshly roasted chickens to come out of the rotating grill. As soon as that happened all orders were expedited quickly and with a smile. read more

I feel it is really more like 3.5 out of 5, but we still can't do half stars, ugh! For lunch today I got a 1/2 chicken. Two sides, fries and plantains, and two desserts, a flan and a tres leches cake. Oh, can't forget the horchata that I normally get! The total for everything came out to $20. Woof. Then again maybe next time I should not order with my eyes, but still. That's fairly high. The chicken is small, but it is fairly clean to eat. Fries were really good, as were the sauces that came with it. I also liked plantains too, very fresh. However I wasn't thrilled with the desserts. The flan was very rich to the point at I had to throw it away, and the tres leches cake was dry. Nothing like what Cafe Rio did to theirs. My horchata was bland. Despite the weak finish I will try to come back and get something else. The fact that this place was busy at lunch encourages me to make another visit. read more

The chicken here is sooo good! For $20 you can get a full chicken and 2 sides. I think that's a pretty good deal. Also the service is very fast which is great. For their sides, I've had the beans & Rice, macaroni salad, yuca, and plantains. I think they all were good but my favorite that i have to get every time is the Yuca. Their yellow sauce is BOMB. The green sauce was too hot for me so i didn't really eat that as much. If you get your meal to go, you won't get enough sauce on the side and will have to pay extra if you ask for more. However if you dine-in, you have unlimited amounts of sauce. You can grab a squeeze bottle and bring it to your table and enjoy as much as you'd like. read more

I gotta give it up for King Pollo! This restaurant mini chain has been around since '08, first starting off out in Sterling. The menu is the same, offering items such as Peruvian chicken, sides (white rice, fried rice, beans & rice, beans, green beans, steamed veggies, potato salad, onion salad, yuca, steak fries, plantains, macaroni salad, spaghetti, and salad), entrees (carne asada, carne desilada, bistec ensebollado, pollo a la crema, pollo saltado, chicarrones, etc.), pupusas, soups, subs, salads, breakfast items, desserts, and beverages. The hubs and I love getting their whole Peruvian chicken, and even though it doesn't look that big of a chicken, it actually is of a decent size, full of meat, and tons juiciness! I also love that both the skin and the meat are flavorful - the skin is lightly crisp and has a perfect amount of seasoning, not missing a mm; the meat inside is never dried out and has always been super tender. I also dig the fact that the chicken doesn't form a pool of 'liquid' - the juices seem to be locked in! For the sides, I usually stick with the white rice, that is always fluffy and seems to be ever-so-slightly seasoned; the hubs like their salad, as he's a fan of their light honey mustard vinaigrette. The big bonus is that their sauces are limitless when you dine-in - the aji sauce is more mustard-y in flavor and complements the chicken well. Feel free to get a bottle for your table, or ask for one of those disposable mini paper trays to get a good amount of sauce! The staff here are friendly, makes sure that your orders are accurate, and are pretty efficient in moving the line along. The lunch and the dinner rush gets a bit overwhelming, but just be patient! There are some tables inside to dine-in, or you're more than welcome to do a carry-out. Plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot. Today was hubby and I first time trying this place since we are locals in Alexandria we both got the half chicken, one white one dark meat. The chicken was very dry and over cooked, besides, the honey and I had were the french fries, the fried rice, the rice and peas and spaghetti that were very basic with little to no flavor. Now that start with customer service customer service, no one greeted us upon entry the ambience was decent. Our suggestion would be to cut your chicken to order and not have it sitting in a heat lamp. That's what dries your chicken out. Will we be back? I doubt it read more

The food is trash and a rip off! The chicken is unseasoned, the sides were cold, the spaghetti looks like it came out of a can, the vegetable melody out of a bag, and the salad...icberg and tomatos. When I arrived, the gentleman at the counter was very nice and polite. Hours Later, both my husband and myself started to feel sick. I got chills, nausea and in and out of the bathroom all night!! It was the worse sleep of my life!! Wonderful food! The fried fish was hot and flavorful and the yucca was amazing; it was crispy in the outside and very soft on the inside. My salad was fresh and I enjoyed the thick corn tortillas. I don't often eat this much food, but, it was soooo good I couldn't help myself. The parking lot on S. Pickett is a pain so do yourself a favor and drive all the way down to the other end and take a right, then a a left onto Edsall if that's your fancy, otherwise your food will be cold before you get out of the parking lot. Burnt, overcooked, hard, and dry with all the seasoning burnt off. the green beans were from a can, the potato salad was bland, the yellow sauce is runny and diluted, and the horchata was watered down as well. I ordered through uber eats and checked the box where it says add straws, napkins, and utensils, however none were provided, not even the straw for my horchata, probably due to fact that the people who work here are illiterate in the English language, nor do they give a crap. I'm a big fan of charbroiled Peruvian chicken. It's quick, affordable, and healthy (especially if you skip some/most of the skin). I don't have the most sensitive palate, so I honestly can't say that one of them is better than any others on taste. But re service and overall experience, King Pollo stands out. -- Both staff members that served me were very friendly -- Portions were absolutely heaping; staff piled the plate basically trying to give me as much as possible -- They've got bottles of the green and yellow sauce that you can take to your table (or at least they let me) -- Whatever they're doing with the green beans (smattering of eggs?), keep doing it! Yesterdays chicken that's dry and almost bland. Sauces were meh, but the yuca was ok.

Price and service. I always ask for extra crispy yucca and extra yellow sauce and they knock it out of the park.

Ordered yuca con chicharron and a quarter dark chicken with yuca and plantains. Both were seasoned well and not dry at all. They gave good portions of the sides. They also gave me two corn tortillas that tasted homemade and fresh. I just wish I could get more sauce without being charged extra. read more

I would give this place 5 stars because the chicken is really good but recently they've started to be really stingy with their sauces. I bought half a chicken, with 2 tica sides and salad, they gave me 2 yellow and 2 green sauces and wanted to charge me 25c per addiotional ones. I wouldn't mind paying if they had at least give me 3 of each sauces but how am I gonna eat all this yuca and chicken with 2 yellow sauces? It's annoying af to even have to ask him f that's all the sauces you're gonna get. And I'm saying as someone who has come here for over a year that has not had these issues up until a couple of months ago - they used to be really good about giving sauces and if I needed extra I would pay for them but now it's just you know I'm not going to be eating dry chicken and I'm not going to be spending two dollars more for sauces that should come with the meal. Really annoying because if you eat at the restaurant they have bottles of each sauce that you can take to your table and not pay extra at all it is only because you are taking it to go that you have to pay which is absurd. Yes, this place has GREAT rotisserie chicken and sides. I have been here several times and prefer it for fresh / hot choices, in fact, I have had staff ask me to wait up to 10 minutes for new batches of chicken to ensure my food was good. Staff are good-natured who have limited fluency but are always prompt in service and seem to recall repeat customers. Never been disappointed in any choice I picked and would recommend to others. The location is in a strip mall which can have parking hassles and is pretty busy. The physical layout of the store limits seating options for customers, which probably, needs to be addressed to increase capacity. Have generally observed this location of King Pollo to produce 6 carry-outs per dine-in customer. It is definitely a high wear-n-tear location due to volume. Casual food location and fast service. You don't to come here for the "atmosphere" or, to be lounging around in your pajamas fooling with laptop wi-fi, simply plan to eat-and-go!!! Majority of the staff are pretty unfriendly here. Fortunately in my experience, one helpful staff member redeemed the other not so good ones. So my go-to dish at most Peruvian places is pollo saltado. Chicken stir-fry over fries with rice on the side....yes please. I realize the rotisserie chicken is the main attraction here, but I just can't help myself. Anyways, I ordered the pollo saltado here with a guy who gave me a really weird look. Maybe it's cause no one orders the pollo saltado or cause I was the first Asian guy seen in that store? Anyways, I see him grill the chicken and veggies and then plop them in a pan with some sauce and then just....walk away. He never came back. The food just sat in the pan frying away for a while until another staff member walked by and noticed no one was watching it and then saw me eyeing the dish. So he finished and put it on a plate and asked what sides I wanted. The fried rice here is fantastic so of course I asked for double portions of it but there was none left. The nearby female worker said there was none left and I guess the disappointment on my face was very evident, so the guy asked another staff to make fried rice (!!!!!). So I got freshly made fried rice and I was very happy. Trust me...get the fried rice here. So good. Anyways, the pollo saltado was obviously dry since it was on the pan for so long but nonetheless, the meal was satisfying. I've been to the other King Pollo in Rockville and their workers are so much more attentive. If it hadn't been for the one superstar employee here, this visit could have been a disaster. read more

I expected to eat a few bites to satisfy my sweet tooth, but could not stop myself short of eating it all. The bad. I ordered delivery and it was a mess. Everything from liquids spilled in bag to no utensils (yes, I ordered and paid for the) and discrepant totals with driver, my Eats App and paper copy in bag. I love Peruvian chicken, and I have been a fan Peruvian chicken ever since I first tried it 15 years ago. I have been an avid fan of Crisp and Juicy in Falls Church for at least 15 years... this is the first time I had Peruvian chicken that did not come from Crisp and Juicy.... and now I know why I only eat Peruvian chicken from Crisp and Juicy. What I got today was hard, crunchy, overcooked, dry chicken that had that bitter burnt taste to it because...well.... it WAS burnt. I mean that oily diesel taste that comes when you stand next to an 18 wheeler too long and the stench and fumes are so strong that you can taste it in your mouth as tears form in your eyes because its just so bad. yeah, that.... pretty much that. and the hard bits.. I mean, it's dark meat, but the legs... OMG the poor legs.... all the meat was hard... like it shredded into little toothpicks that I could legit use to pick the rest of the charred diesel pieces out of my teeth. The fries were cold, and these are those big steak fries, so when you bite into them it's just cold potato mush inside... and the plantains were still hard, like I didn't understand that one, they were dark, super dark and seemed to have been cooked and caramelized but raw in the center... except for the little burnt crunchy bits that got added in. 1/2 chicken (all dark ) with some extra sauce to go, over $12 bucks for a meal and I couldn't even eat it, like at all... I attempted to reheat the fries but if the chicken can't be eaten, whats the point? I surely wasn't going to try and reheat the chicken as it had already been cooked to death and this was clearly a bad chicken because as overcooked as it was, I would swear it walked through hell at some point.... I will not be getting chicken from this place again. It was horrible. I was going to give it 1 star, but they have great yellow sauce so an extra star for that.... it's hard to come by a good yellow sauce, even if they do charge you extra for that tiny little cup. read more

I'm a big fan of El Pollo Rico in Arlington, but I hadn't found anything close for a long time. Enter King Pollo! The BF and I found them in a quiet and unassuming plaza in Alexandria. Despite the language barrier (only one staff member was able to converse in English with us), we were able to order 1/2 chicken ($8.99) and sides of white rice, beans, green beans, and steamed veggies. The Peruvian chicken meal price includes two sides, while extras are $2.75 each except for yucca, steak fries, and plantain which are $3.50. In addition to Peruvian chicken, they also serve saltado, carne asada, costillas, guisadas, pupusas, subs, soups, and breakfast items like huevos rancheros and frijoles. I definitely want to come back and try their lomo saltado; I haven't found a decent one in the area yet, but I have a feeling King Pollo may turn up a more authentic saltado than some of the other places I've tried. The Peruvian chicken is juicy and flavorful, very good. The sides are all decent too. They do not skimp on quality or quantity, plus the prices are very reasonable. The service is friendly too. Even though we weren't able to communicate too well with a lot of the staff, they were all smiles and tried their best to understand what we wanted. And the guy who did speak English joked with us while we were there. They have a couple other locations in the area, so they're growing quite a bit.
