Met my friend here for happy hour around 4:45. The bar was not crowded at that time on a Wednesday night. Parking was readily available in the lot behind the building King Street Oyster Bar is in. We both ordered the seasonal sangria, which was a white sangria. It was very good and they had blueberries at the bottom no other fruit. We shared the spinach and artichoke dip and shrimp bites. Based on all the photos posted here I was super excited to order the shrimp. Luckily my friend was agreeable to my choices. The dip was good, nothing special. I would have liked it a bit warmer. However, the tortilla chips were really fresh and crispy. We both loved the shrimp bites. It's a perfect size appetizer to share among two people. I will definitely order that appetizer again upon my return. Service was phenomenal. I know that's a strong word to use, but he was very patient while we caught up and he checked in on us several times throughout our visit. By the time we left it was pretty busy. We had our first bad experience here at the Potomac location, 4/10/26 around 4:30pm happy hour. We come here at least once a month. I walked in and greeted the hosts with a Hi. The young man with a bowl haircut and glasses just says , RESERVATION. No greeting or even a full sentence. I don't know if it's a question or statement. I am surprised and ask , Huh? He doubles down and says RESERVATION again. Not sure if this is a case of bad day or lack of training. This is not what customers want as an initial contact in a restaurant. Luckily, someone who I assume is a manager says, Let's start over, and proceeds to be very helpful and professional. Otherwise, the dining experience is why we expect from Oyster Bar. There's always a vibe that feels very elevated yet simultaneously laid-back, servers are attentive, the wine is always tasty, and the food always feels extremely fresh. Tonight I had the salmon BLT and the fruits were outstanding as usual, because in 2026. I was in the mood for oysters and stopped by for the first time on a Friday evening. I expected it to be busy and it was packed. I took a seat at the bar and waited for the server. It took some time and appeared that the two working bartenders were just overwhelmed so I was patient. When she came to me I put in. An order for the happy hour oysters and iced tea. The iced tea seemed to confuse her a bit but they located it. Friday night in Potomac is more of a martini and margaritas crowd. The oysters were at my seat within a couple of minutes and had a selection of little sauces and stuff. The oysters themselves were def happy hour quality. Anemic little things without much texture or flavor. Next I put in an order for the fried oyster platter. And waited. And waited. Finally I asked about my food and the bartender weren't to check on it after noting she put it in 30 minutes prior. She came back from the kitchen and apologized, and she told her coworkers that the kitchen was a mess and somebody there was 'angrier that I've ever seen him'. My food was out in less than 5 minutes. The fries and coleslaw were perfect and these oysters were fat little sucker's that were perfectly done. Aside from that the one issue I had was the noise. Came here during happy hour, oyster quality was terrible and we got one my friend had to spit out bc it tasted so bad. Portions for the apps is tiny and the drinks were really bad too, maybe this is just a happy hour thing but I've been to happy hours where the business still cared about food quality. The way the place is set up also feels extremely cramped even though it's not a tiny restaurant. You'll know what I mean if you visit but especially the high tables don't feel comfortable at all. We had the crabcake and salmon sliders that had a smokey flavor that were very delicious. The tempura sprimp was good but didnt have as much crunch as I would have liked. But it was very flavored. Now, for the lobster roll, it was not all that flavorful and it was not buttered that much on the inside and non on the outside of the bread (3 stars). This is such a great happy hour place in the Rockville/Potomac area. Really good happy hour menu. The star for happy hour is the $1 oysters, the Chophouse burger and the wings. It's great you don't have to sit in the bar for this. We recently came to celebrate a birthday, and to my surprise the dinner entrees we ordered were really good. This place is quite empty after happy hour is over which is a shame. They are missing out on all the other dishes not on the happy hour menu such as their Grilled Sea scallops, served with pasta, lobster and mushrooms and their lobster roll and seafood pasta. I come here often for happy hour because you really can't beat the prices or the fact that it happens seven days a week. Payton is the best waiter and is very personable as well as efficient. One of my favorites on the happy hour menu are the Jax Mussels and I never was a big mussels fan previously but wow this place has converted me, so much so that I had to write a review! And for only $9 I feel like i can't beat it. The bread it comes with to sop up the liquid is chefs kiss!! Just writing this review makes me want to go here TODAY for those mussels. Found this place on Yelp and had to check it out, known for the best oysters. The service here is great you're seated as soon as you walk in. There is also outdoor seating, bring the entire family and enjoy. I had the bruschetta as a starter and it was delicious, the bread was super crispy just the way I love it. Love this spot for happy hour. They have a good $1.25 oyster deal that happens every day! Even on weekends. The food here is average. I just love it here! The staff is super friendly. We have always been welcomed in with a smile. Well well well, I wish I were writing a better review but unfortunately I did not have a great experience with King Street Oyster Bar. I have been looking for a spot to host a happy hour event and this place came highly recommended. I literally walked into the location weeks before the event to explain what we were looking for and to confirm that they could accommodate. The thing about happy hours is that you don't know how many people will show up the day of because people cancel and things happen so I requested a space for up to 16 people. They had my contact information and everything. I also received multiple text messages, see images!!! This is important because of what transpired the day of the reservation. The day of the happy hour, I arrived 20 minutes early to make sure we could get a good spot in the outside patio area. I was hoping to have an area where we could stand and mingle but they had us at tables - not only that nothing was ready because they said that they had called me and I never confirmed but as you can see in the texts, I did confirm. Someone did call be during the work day one and I asked them to please call back if they had specific questions but told them we would be there. Anyway, the area that they wanted to put us in was not set up, it was a table area and I was hoping to be standing. Then, they told me that we could only have one check!!! I specifically asked if there was a way for people to pay for their own drinks and we would pay for the food on a separate check but that's wasn't an option. What restaurant doesn't have a POS where you can put in individual seat assignments for guests and then split from there? I have worked in the hospitality industry for years and know that this is an option yet they were unwilling to do that. We had one check and spent a good 20 minutes with Venmo and apps out to figure everything out instead of letting us all pay individually. Oh and gratuity was added since we were a large party but the gratuity would have been more had we been able to order separately. And don't get me started on the service - our server, Emanuel, came to our table in a huff because we hadn't "confirmed" our reservation and they weren't prepared for us...and when we needed to add additional seats to our table, he argued with me about not confirming and told me that he would have the manager come over to confirm that I hadn't confirmed the reservation... Again, check the text! But even without that, we were there, we were ordering food and drinks, and we wanted to have a good time but his attitude as a server was not appreciated. And, the manager did come over while I was sitting and chatting to show me my phone number again to confirm that they called that number and that I never answered...but I confirmed through the text messages!!! Regardless of all the ridiculousness that ensued, they do have good happy hour prices so that's why I gave them 2 stars. As for service and ambiance, they're lucky to get the rating I provided. I will not be returning and I would highly encourage anyone bringing a large party to plan accordingly! read more

Took a loooong time to get our food and beverages: just 2 drinks and an appetizer, and mediocre key lime pie for dessert, all of which we almost walked out on waiting for them. I should have known, because as we walked into the bustling restaurant, a waitress (not the hostess) saw us and stopped serving the two drinks in her hand to escort us -- in the other direction -- to our table. Came for my dad's birthday recently. We got there around 6 and weee delighted that happy hour was still going on. I got the froze as my drink which was good but probably would order a margarita next time as it did not pair well with the weather. I also tried the muscles which were delicious, the salmon BLT bites where were the perfect size (and price) and my favorite, the tuna tacos. My dad got the Shrimp Po boy which was topped with a large amount of shrimp and paired with very salty and delicious french fries. Love all the locations I've visited. There was one in Maryland, and another in DC. It's the happy hour every day from 3 to 6 with oysters that are $1.00 for me. The muscles are no joke also. From the outside seating for true al fresco dining on a nice day, to covered outside seating so you can still enjoy the outdoor view, to the inside bar area that's very bright with lots of daylight shining through and a window wall that can be opened up or closed up front, and to a more intimate dining area that's low-lit and more quiet.
