So happy to see CA Fish Grill make it's way to the East Coast and to MoCo! I've gone a few times and it never disappoints- just as good as I remember from my first visit to this spot in SoCal. My go-tos are the ahi like starter, Cajun rockfish taco combo, everything protein bowl, and the lobster roll (a la carte). Parking could get a little crazy in the lot outside, but there's plenty of spaces available. Staff have always been pleasant. Be sure to download their app to be in the know of some deals, as well as order ahead.

I visited the California Fish Grill on Rockville Pike and tried their Fish & Chips. Yes, I know it's not the healthiest item on the menu, but it was the one thing that called out to me from the menu. And for good reason - nicely breaded, cooked well, crispy on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside, not greasy at all. And the fries were seasoned well for a nice accompaniment. I'm sure I'll be back and may get a healthier alternative next time. But until then, the fish and chips hit the spot! If you haven't visited the California Fish Grill yet, you are missing out!

My mom and I stopped in for a late lunch. There are indoor and outdoor seatings. You order at the kiosk or the counter. They will call your name when it's ready. The staff is very friendly. We ordered a few things to share. We ordered the lobster rolls platter which came with a choice of side. We got it with fries. The lobster rolls came with a side of butter to drizzle on. It was DELICIOUS! We also got the everything protein with a choice of base. We made ours as a salad. I wish there was a little more of the salad. The proteins were chicken, shrimp, and two different fish. We also added avocado for $1.75. It was a little pricey for the amount of avocado. Because we ordered $30, we got a side of fried shrimp for free. Overall, good experience.

Ever since the Yelp Elite had an event here I've been craving the fish. I wish more restaurants would have Yelp events so that I can try them out. I especially like it here because I feel like I'm eating super healthy and the food is still very flavorful. I love that they season the fish and grill it so it's not greasy. I love the creative sides they have ie tomato and feta taste so good together.

The menu is above the counter and on the kiosk.

California Fish Grill is committed to serving 100 percent sustainable seafood. My friend recommended this place and I was eager to give it a try. It has that very clean, modern, with wood decor and a California vibe. There are kiosks at the front where you order your food. Thank you, LaToya for your help in deciding what to order and your fun personality. You are a ray of sunshine. I do have to admit that this friendly kiosk offers you an upgrade from beans to a salad for $2.99 and rice to sweet potato fries for $2.00. By the time I actually got to the final price, it was $10 higher than I began. So, watch out for the add ons. It does take about 15 minutes for your order to come out. My shrimp tacos were delicious. They tasted great and were cooked perfectly. The sweet potato fries were excellent. Yum! But, the Caesar salad was just lettuce with Caesar dressing. I found a core of the lettuce head had slipped its way into my salad. I did take off a point for that. The salted mango drink was delicious and refreshing. It was so good. I will definitely come back and order the fish next time. Thank you California Fish Grill.

New to the area, California Fish Grill is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. You order at a kiosk, which left me a bit frustrated. I tried twice, and both times it kicked me out or wouldn't take my payment. Finally, I walked over to a friendly worker at the counter and she took my order with no problem. I'll admit the kiosk left me questioning what the rest of my experience would be. We sat at a table. We were told it would be about 15 minutes, but I was called to the counter to pick up the food just about 10 minutes later. The food looked great and . . . was delicious. The entrees come with two sides. I had the branzino with zucchini and kale slaw. My partner had the salmon with a double portion of zucchini. They thought the salmon was a bit thin, but very good. The fish was fairly priced and very well prepared and tasty. We also liked the sides. The place ain't fancy - it's got a fast casual vibe, but it's bright and comfortable. Other than the kiosk experience - 5 stars.

    BATTERED ROCKFISH TACO $4.99

I am so happy this place finally opened. I first got email notifications and I am always up for fish tacos! This place reminds me of Slapfish that was once located on The Pike nearby. Price points are reasonable for most items. I'm glad they show pictures on the kiosk screen of the items you want to order. Last month I had the Rockfish platter with rice and zucchini. Everything was delicious! I came back yesterday after getting my car washed across the street to have a fish taco for lunch. They use rockfish in their tacos, not cheap tilapia like many places. It was fried in a crispy batter, and not overcooked. I loved it. It was only $4.99 for a single taco which is cheaper than some other taco chains. I walked in and decided to order from my app this time. I thought maybe I'd earn points, but I don't think this company does that; only special offers through the app, I think. So the guy behind the counter saw me do this, but I guess I didn't make it clear I was there to dine in. The app said my food would be ready at a specific time. He didn't call my name so after a few minutes I asked the guy, then he checked and my bag was sitting there the whole time. No biggie. Next time I will know better. The booths are clean and they'll give you real silverware. I will be back.

Love this new fast casual place in Rockville that opened up. We went in and placed our order and got our food rather quickly. The fish was delicious! They were well seasoned and lightly sauced, which allowed us to taste the fish. The side were great and the soup was really good for a cold day! The staff were great and friendly! Definitely worth checking out!

So glad we have this place in Rockville! I love that the seafood is sustainable, fresh, and dishes are clean. We got the Everything Bowl and David got 3 tacos. Was also able to get a side of their cajun and their garlic butter sauces, on top of the sauces you can get when your food comes out (salsa, cocktail, tartar, tomatillo). Everything Bowl: As the name suggests, has a little of every protein - salmon, shrimp, rockfish, chicken. For only 11.99, this is the BEST deal ever. If you're someone who likes to try everything, honestly I wouldn't order anything else. The chicken and salmon were a bit on the dry side compared to the other proteins, but the rockfish and shrimp were great. Comes over a LARGE amount of rice and beans which is better than not enough! Basically enough as a side for David too lol. Had a bite of David's Battered Rockfish taco and it was very crispy and they gave us a nice hefty piece of fish too. Only thing we were confused about was that we downloaded the app for a free shrimp skewer but was told that I had to order an entree and the bowl didn't count. Would definitely come back here, wish it was closer otherwise I would be coming a lot!

Fresh sustainable seafood in a fast casual setting with many sides choices, sign me up. They have salads, tacos, bowls and plates. Seafood includes wild caught and responsibly farmed fish, shrimp, and calamari. They also have chicken and vegetarian options. Ordering is at the counter and meals are paid for there as well. Got a plate with my choice of grilled branzino (with seasoned olive oil as the sauce). The 2 sides I chose was Brussels sprouts and tomato and feta salad. I got a platter with 2 grilled bass filets, tender and charred brussel sprouts. The tomato and feta salad was fresh and sweet with hints of basil and olive oil. The fish was tender and flaky, cooked perfectly with skin on the bottom. My companion liked his rockfish (Cajun sauce). Service was very friendly.

This popular California eatery has made it to the area! We tried the margaritas and honestly were not that impressed. The strawberry margarita tasted very lime-y and the lime margarita was just OK. The price point is pretty good. They are only $6. Let's get into the food... the rockfish was delicious. There are four different sauces, I got the Cajun. It was delicious. The real star was the kale slaw, a solid 10, absolutely delicious, the protein bowl was OK. It lacked seasoning, which was really disappointing because this dish has chicken, shrimp, swai and salmon so we were really excited to try it. We got a shrimp skewer on the side and it was pretty good. There's plenty of parking, and the staff was really friendly. This is a fast casual restaurant so the ambience was pretty good.

CAJUN ROCKFISH TACO and BATTERED ROCKFISH TACO
    Jon S.

Parking is easy and plentiful! This place has outdoor seating and decent indoor space. There's a kiosk for self-serve ordering and in person ordering. Kind of similar design as lazy fish near by, but casual setting. The food. Mhm 'mixed vibes here. The fish was good overall! The Cajun fish taco was decent flavor (I didn't think it was spicy at all, very mild) and tasted good 4/5 The battered fish was good! Great crunch and decent amount of fish with good flavor! 4/5 The crispy wild cod sandwich was good flavor and size, good crunch with batter and good amount of fish was a good eat! The things that wasn't as great/CONS Kids Mac and cheese: kind of looked like Kraft and was super mushy and not cheesy, pretty disappointing. But the kids still ate it with nothing to rave about 1/5 Kids chicken teriyaki: super dry and not great flavor, pretty disappointing as well. 1.5/5 The fries!! Has potential as it has good seasoning but ALL OF OUR FRIES like 3 orders of them were cold and soggy and was disappointing as well 1.5/5 The clam chowder was okay. A little too runny and could've been more thick and creamy with more clams. And if I'm honest, 2/5 The price point...eh, ordering about 6 items it was about $70 a bit tad more on the pricy side and not worth what we get. Overall, I might try to come back for more fish items and I want to try more things but as of right now 3/5 maybe

10 out of 10 stars!! the food was so fresh and so good. Service was great. They just opened last week so they had a worker standing by the register, available to answer any questions and give recommendations. Inside is cute and not really decorated that much. We will definitely be back!

The green salsa was pretty mild and the orange one was super hot. The dark one was, I think, chipotle. I didn't care for the chipotle. The tacos looked great and were each pretty packed with ingredients. Pollo tacos - I thought the chicken was a bit dry and, because of that, disappointing. Veggie - The veggie were filled with cooked onion, mushroom and peppers. Although they were well prepared and held a lot of veggies, there was no seasoning, so the taste was pretty flat/boring. I had to rely on adding guac and some salsa for flavor. I was hoping the veggie would have some flavor without having to rely on sauces. Al Pastor - was very good. Guacamole - comes "market price". The side we got was $3, which I think was a good value. The guac was flavorful and was a nice portion. I am glad I had it to supplement the disappointing Veggie taco and the dryness of the Pollo. The corn tortillas were good. The place is nice and comfortable.

In the past, we got the Platter for 2 ($27), which is a nice sized platter of wood fire grilled steak, chicken, sausage and shrimp with rice/beans/salad and tortillas. We couldn't finish it all and it was all delicious. No complimentary chips and salsa for the table, so tonight we ordered chips and guac to start. The guac was good with chunks of tomato, onion and avocado; it would have been nice to also get some salsa with it when you order the guac, but there's a separate charge for chips/salsa. For entrees, we got a Carne En Vara and Carne Asada. The En Vara is a skewer of chicken, beef, onion and green peppers, with rice/beans and a side order of arepitas (corn fritter). Everything was well prepared. I liked the arepitas. The Asada was a decent piece of beef that was well prepared. Came with rice and beans and flour tortillas. The service was very good. We were seated and received ice water promptly. The guac came out quickly as did the entrees, but not rushed. The server came by a couple of times to see how we were doing snd she refilled our waters. This is a "Latin" restaurant, and maybe I'm used to the ubiquitous Mexican restaurants that place salsa on the table, and I will say I missed it and didn't want to have to spend $3.95 for salsa. There were a couple of times when I would have liked to dip some of the meat into a sauce/salsa. They do put a bottle of Habanero hot sauce on the table when you sit down. Overall, I cannot complain about the food, quality, service and price. Tacos will typically run $3-$4, which is a bit standard for the area, and they are loaded with plenty of fixings. Also, Trippy has daily specials for certain items on the menu. For small place, the restaurant has a pretty extensive Tex-Mex menu, so I think everyone should find something that they'll like. Although the restaurant has some seating, this place is more of a take-out spot. One tip: I highly recommend ordering before arriving to Trippy Taco, so you can simply grab and go. Unfortunately, parking is a bit limited and tight (like most places in this area). While the food, service and prices are pretty good, I'll admit that I would not go too far out of my way to visit since there are no shortage of Tex-Mex spots in the area. But, it's a great spot to check out on your way from Point A to Point B. Usually, I visit on my way home from the gym (to undo the benefits of my workout).

I ordered carryout, including a pulled chicken Gordita, a pulled goat meat Gordita for the same amount, some chicken tacos (soft flour shell with white meat grilled, chopped chicken topped with very little), and the Tacos Dorados (fried tacos stuffed with shredded chicken and topped with green salsa and cheese). Pictures are from when I got home with my food. Needless to say, for $32 or so (which includes a 20% tip), I had enough food for 3 meals. The Gorditas, while not necessarily healthy, definitely fill you up. The Tacos Dorados were very good for a late night, post drinking (water, of course!), dinner, and the chicken tacos were excellent for a next-day lunch. Accompanying my food were two different sauces -- a red sauce that did not have much flavor, but was scorching hot on the palette and a green sauce that was very tasty and moderate in heat. Overall, an outstanding choice for authentic Mexican food that was very, very good.

It felt very cozy , the walls are painted blue and has white square tiles on the floor, plus the beauty of the Mexican flag hung up on the walls for all to see. The employee was kind, and pickup was quick. I ordered two sopes of grilled chicken topped with a small slice of avocado & tomato, shredded lettuce & cheese (I asked for no sour cream) and they sure packed it up on that crispy thick tortilla! It was very filling and delicious & it comes with two spicy sauces (1 Green 1 Orange) on the side. This place left a great impression on me. ***on a side note, they have a taco Tuesday deal, 3 tacos for $10 :)

"Tacos are like a hug in a tortilla." We were in the mood for tacos and Gringos and Mariachas…read moreseemed like a great choice. I have had 2 successful and delicious 5 star meals at this location. Both times prior to this time, we ate inside the restaurant. Unfortunately, take out orders don't seem to get the same care and attention. First, let me say the food was very good. But, my order had issues as soon as I arrived. We asked for the spicy sauce to be taken off our fish tacos. Luckily, the hostess who took the order noticed right away, that it was made incorrectly. So, it had to be redone. We asked for pico de gayo to replace the sauce and the fish tacos were drowned in the pico. It should have been placed on the side. We were charged $1 for every salsa sauce we ordered. When you eat in the restaurant it is given freely. The chips were served cold. When, I called and asked about it, I was told these were changes that had been made last month. We enjoyed the carne asada tacos with the avocado crema. They were delicious. My grandkids loved the Spanish rice. We also really liked the tacos Al pastor. The pork and pineapple are a tasty and flavorful combination. These were great. So, was it a total loss? No, not at all..we enjoyed a lot of the meal, but when you are paying $80 for a take out dinner, you want that attention to detail that you receive when dining at the restaurant. I will definitely be back, but I will be eating inside the restaurant. That, way, I can get my margarita too.

Our server was super friendly and attentive. I love their patio! It provides good shade and overlooks a pretty courtyard--so you're not eating tons of car exhaust along with your tacos. The food was solid, but not outstanding. My tacos (chicken, cauliflower, grilled fish) were tasty, but small. I'm a big eater, so I needed to eat six to fill me up. My dining companion had the veggie burrito, which she enjoyed. If you're all about food volume for the money, you might be happier elsewhere. I highly recommend this spot as a gathering place for happy hour or to catch up with friends over drinks--especially in the nice weather!!!
