I've come a couple times now and do enjoy the food here. My initial impression is that it is pricey for the ambiance/style. It's not a place where you can eat out at lunch for everyday. However, I will say that the quality is fair for the price. You're paying for a sit-down restaurant-quality dish in a more casual setting. At my latest visit, I came on the weekend with a friend for lunch. We ordered via the kiosks. They ask for your name and phone number and you will get a text when your order is ready. They'll also call your name aloud. There was a steady flow of customers while we dined in ~ good for them! I ordered the fish tacos combo, which comes with a drink and two sides. For my sides, I ordered the rice and tomato feta salad. The rice is lightly seasoned... better than no seasoning but still not super flavorful. It was just barely a step above plain rice. I also didn't care for the tomato feta salad - I'm more of a caprese fan, so I think the feta threw me. They have a soda fountain machine offering Pepsi products and some Stubborn Soda flavors - sodas made with cane sugar instead of all those artificial sweeteners. I enjoyed the battered fish of my fish tacos, but I will note that they made my tacos incorrectly. The picture showed pickled onions on the tacos. I opted for everything and yet no pickled onions were provided. Assembly error aside, the fried fish was well executed. The fish was moist on the inside, and the batter had that audible crunch without being greasy. I would've liked some more acid with the tacos (maybe that's where the pickled onions come in), but I was able to request lemons and they gave extra tartar sauce. We also got a side of the Cajun shrimp skewers which were really well done! The shrimp was tender and a little crisp from the grill. The Cajun flavor definitely gave it some kick. Highly recommend! The food is made fresh, and the restaurant is 100% sustainable seafood. Kudos! Other notes: - The lobster roll is tiny, but that's not surprising. - I love the garlic butter sauce! You can't go wrong with choosing this sauce for your fish. - The app was glitchy. This is a great fast casual restaurant located near Tatte and Wonder. Prices are reasonable and your food is cooked to order. I like how they grill most of the fish here. Sign up for their rewards on their app, you get a free protein bowl! The fish plates are good. Tried the Branzino and Salmon/Swai combo plates. I like the garlic sauce on the fish. You choose your two sides. The sweet potato fries was great! My daughter really loved the shrimp and avocado salad she got it twice in two days! The fish tacos also didn't disappoint. A casual seafood restaurant?! In Maryland?! This is so needed for the pescatarians and seafood lovers! What I love about California Fish Grill is that the food isn't overwhelmingly expensive, and with it being a casual spot, the wait wasn't long either. They also serve chicken, for the folks who are not in the seafood mood. I've been here a couple times and got the chance to try a few menu selections. On this visit, I ordered tacos: one cajun shrimp and one cajun fish. It came with two sides: rosemary zucchini and beans. I really loved my meal. Other menu items I've tried include the lobster roll, the branzino with Brussels sprouts and Mexican corn, and the Mediterranean shrimp bowl. So happy to see CA Fish Grill make it's way to the East Coast and to MoCo! I've gone a few times and it never disappoints- just as good as I remember from my first visit to this spot in SoCal. My go-tos are the ahi like starter, Cajun rockfish taco combo, everything protein bowl, and the lobster roll (a la carte). It has that very clean, modern, with wood decor and a California vibe. There are kiosks at the front where you order your food. I do have to admit that this friendly kiosk offers you an upgrade from beans to a salad for $2.99 and rice to sweet potato fries for $2.00. By the time I actually got to the final price, it was $10 higher than I began. So, watch out for the add ons. It does take about 15 minutes for your order to come out. My shrimp tacos were delicious. I visited the California Fish Grill on Rockville Pike and tried their Fish & Chips. Yes, I know it's not the healthiest item on the menu, but it was the one thing that called out to me from the menu. And for good reason - nicely breaded, cooked well, crispy on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside, not greasy at all. And the fries were seasoned well for a nice accompaniment. New to the area, California Fish Grill is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. You order at a kiosk, which left me a bit frustrated. I tried twice, and both times it kicked me out or wouldn't take my payment. Finally, I walked over to a friendly worker at the counter and she took my order with no problem. I'll admit the kiosk left me questioning what the rest of my experience would be. We sat at a table. We were told it would be about 15 minutes, but I was called to the counter to pick up the food just about 10 minutes later. The food looked great and . . . was delicious. The entrees come with two sides. I had the branzino with zucchini and kale slaw. My partner had the salmon with a double portion of zucchini. They thought the salmon was a bit thin, but very good. The fish was fairly priced and very well prepared and tasty. We also liked the sides. The place ain't fancy - it's got a fast casual vibe, but it's bright and comfortable. I am so happy this place finally opened. I first got email notifications and I am always up for fish tacos! This place reminds me of Slapfish that was once located on The Pike nearby. Price points are reasonable for most items. I'm glad they show pictures on the kiosk screen of the items you want to order. Last month I had the Rockfish platter with rice and zucchini. Everything was delicious! I came back yesterday after getting my car washed across the street to have a fish taco for lunch. They use rockfish in their tacos, not cheap tilapia like many places. It was fried in a crispy batter, and not overcooked. I loved it. It was only $4.99 for a single taco which is cheaper than some other taco chains. I walked in and decided to order from my app this time. I thought maybe I'd earn points, but I don't think this company does that; only special offers through the app, I think. Was also able to get a side of their cajun and their garlic butter sauces, on top of the sauces you can get when your food comes out (salsa, cocktail, tartar, tomatillo). Everything Bowl: As the name suggests, has a little of every protein - salmon, shrimp, rockfish, chicken. For only 11.99, this is the BEST deal ever. If you're someone who likes to try everything, honestly I wouldn't order anything else. The chicken and salmon were a bit on the dry side compared to the other proteins, but the rockfish and shrimp were great. Comes over a LARGE amount of rice and beans which is better than not enough! The price point is pretty good. They are only $6. Let's get into the food... the rockfish was delicious. There are four different sauces, I got the Cajun. It was delicious. The real star was the kale slaw, a solid 10, absolutely delicious, the protein bowl was OK. I ordered the Salmon & Swai Combo with garlic butter with diced zucchini & rosemary on the side and the Salmon Burrito Bowl. The Swai was super soft, juicy, and not fishy at all. It went perfectly with the garlic butter. I would honestly give this a 5 out of 5, especially for the price. The salmon was good, but pretty much what you'd expect from a typical salmon dish. The zucchini had a nice rosemary flavor. It did taste a little bland overall, so I added some salt and pepper, but still a solid side. Overall, the combo was great. The Salmon Burrito Bowl was just okay. The flavor was good, but there was way too much rice compared to the toppings. I ended up finishing the toppings pretty fast and was just left with rice. Probably wouldn't get this one again, but I'm curious to try their other bowls (only if the rice to topping ratio isn't too off). The fries were super crisp though, almost like they were double-fried. Overall, I think it's great that you can get good quality seafood here at a reasonable price. It's aesthetically pleasing, well lit and modern. All the food looked delicious! I tried the lobster roll and the clam chowder. Food came out in 10 minutes or less! Price was about what I was expecting for seafood, which is fine. My order was take out and upon arrival to my home, I opened it up and it was still warm ! So tasty, so fresh and delicious. Even without the salsa the dish was too spicy. The chicken tasted "fake," and the entire dish was quite dreadful. I went to the counter to ask for a sauce that would cool down the dish and got the same ridiculous woman whose English is very bad. She offered me mayonnaise and told me that all of their sauces were "very spicy." I guess that staying with grilled fish is safer. Instead of experimenting and getting fancy, they should stick with what works and tastes like a fresh seafood dish. I may or may not return. read more

We had the grilled fish combo (salmon and swai) over rice and tomatoes and feta salad, and the 2 battered fish tacos (sub flour tortilla) with 2 sides (kale salad and beans). The tacos had HUGE pieces of fish. I chose rockfish and the fish and breading were both so flaky and fluffy. I loved the sauces, pickled toppings and everything else. The swai was really great and salmon was a bit fishy. Sides were all great except the tomato slices were barely bigger than a dollar coin. I ordered a two-piece battered fish and chips with kale slaw, and a lobster roll. The lobster roll was okay, but unremarkable. The portion size was a bit small, though that may just be from current lobster prices. As for the fish and chips, the website shows two different fried fish options. There is the the "battered fish and chips," which appears as a traditional British-style fish and chips preparation, and a different "battered fish" which is rather different.
