I had the good fortune to walk by this gem of a place. The restaurant had a cozy look/feel to it so I popped in as I was craving some Italian food. I pulled up to the bar and glad I did. The bar tender was great! Very attentive and he made some great food recommendations. I started with their meatballs and moved on to their traditional cheese pizza. The meatballs and red sauce were fire. Very tasty! Their pizza was good as well but not great as compared to their meatballs. I wish I would have gone with a pasta dish. They make pretty much everything in house which should be the standard for an authentic place. Another fantastic meal here! Brought my family for my parents 50th Anniversary and everything from start to finish was perfect. As simple as it sounds, the Italian Oven Salad was a hit. Crispy, Fresh and balanced with some candied pecans paired with the tanginess of the balsamic vinaigrette. The PLT pizza we had for an appetizer was also a hit. The real winner of the night though is the Veal Pork Chop! it was a huge bone-in Veal chop with a deep rich Marinara, my wife could not finish it so i was happy to support. Came across this place since my friends and I were in the mood for Italian food and this location had the best reviews in the Rockville center area. The restaurant itself has a very cozy ambiance to it with the brick oven out in the open. The server was super friendly and gave us good recommendations from the menu and for drinks. I decided on an espresso martini and chicken parm. The martini was prepared to perfection. My friend was in the mood to have her dessert before her meal so she ordered a tiramisu to share with the table. It was not very sweet but a nice treat. The chicken was absolutely delicious with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. It came with a side of spaghetti in marinera sauce. The pasta was a little harder than I wanted but still very good. The portion size was generous so I did have leftovers to take home. The prices were a bit elevated but fair. My search brought me to Mangia Bene in Rockville Center. Walking in, I see my neighbor and her husband. Guy back slaps happen, we all hug and order drinks. My wife, I can see her wheels turning but she's sitting far away from me so the no sharing rule is in effect. Mangia Bene was voted one of the best Long Island pizza for 2023. Mangia Bene is not a pizza place, its a full sit down restaurant with a huge pizza oven that is in the dining room. Rock on MB! We all agree on the pizza special with truffle oil as well as a calamari starter. The pizza? I don't want to hear about black spots and bubbles on pizza. Those "blisters" represent a well quality pizza. The first bite had me swooning! Sooo good and I love the Truffle flavor at the end. The pasta? Award winning! Homemade, I ordered the Strozzapreti Pesto, freshly made strozzapreti pasta tossed in a basil pesto sauce, pine nuts and string beans. Sounds a little krazy but I like krazy! So dropped in on a whim for take out lunch. Hostess very nice. Ordered the Mediterranean salad with shrimp to go. It's ok, but $28 for this off the lunch menu is crazy. Tomatoes, cucumbers red onions feta and 5 shrimp. Nice cozy, good for a date place. Staff was attentive. We ordered meatball appetizer, which was undercooked in my opinion, because the middle was still red and "mushy". The carbonara pasta was decent. The cacio e pepe was different, a little too saucy. Maybe we were too critical of the pasta dishes because the bar screen showed pictures of some Italian towns we visited and a map of Italy with Rome highlighted. The rack of lamb was done nicely. The sauce reduction paired well with the pistachio crust. The reoccurrence of real maraschino cherries upgraded the dishes. Served with squid ink pasta! Bronzino shared by the four of us. Delicious and simple. So good. Five out of five. We ordered one side meatball. Mistake. Super delicious with their exquisite red sauce. Five out of five. Sautéed Broccoli Rabe $7 and Sautéed Spinach $6 both a must try with olive oil garlic infusion that's the best value of our meal and essential to the Mangia Bene experience. Five out if five. String beans are crisp, healthiest on the menu. Less oil. Four out of five. Chicken wings were good and solid. Comes with blue cheese on the side. Three out of five rating. Fried calamari was fresh. Lightly breaded, not greasy. Delicous. Four and one half out of five. If you go to Mangia Bene, I guarantee that you will Mangia Bene. Our first time and we are quite disappointed so far. Our server was attentive but out of 9 tables no one has food. We have been waiting over one hour and no entrees. Some tables had apps as we did but it took our apps over 30 minutes. Our server was going in and out to the kitchen but didn't say anything to us about the delay. Let me save you time and money - don't come here. LI is flooded with good Italian food and this place sucks. I'm Italian and have been to Italy multiple times; food is not great and they put so much pepper in everything. Came here with my cousins to celebrate my cousin's wedding in lieu of a traditional bachelorette. Made a reservation well in advance. Our appetizer came out timely and was decent (pesto pizza) but 2 hours later no entrees. When they finally came out they were ice cold and congealed. We said something and they said they would remake but an hour lately they finally brought out a partial remake of our food still cold and congealed- many items still missing. Talked to manager and owner neither seemed to care much and made excuses paired with insincere apologies. They sent us a bottle of wine but we had to keep following up about the rest of our order and the other issues that followed since food was cold again. They admitted something wrong with our ticket but even after bringing the issue to light they didn't seem to prioritize us. The food is not fresh and the management is clearly not good. Go elsewhere! Friday night was not my first time here but my most memorable! I usually go for one of their amazing espresso martinis but I am doing dry January and opted for a bottle of flat water. The service is always outstanding and it's the coziest little date night spot in RVC . We couldn't decide on what to eat so we opted to try a bunch of different appetizers. We started with the burrata and it was the best burrata I have ever eaten in my life. The burrata was served with a pear poached in Prosecco and saffron drizzled with raw honey and dusted with crush pistachios. We also tried the carcioffo and baked clams which were also delicious but after finishing them we decided to order another burrata! Will def be back soon read more

Mangia bene came out the gate swinging with the whipped ricotta set at the table alongside some warm crusty bread. We ordered Arancini and baked clams for apps. The Arancini were made with a saffron risotto. They were cheesy crispy and delightful. The baked clams, I could've totally passed on. They were way too salty. For beverages we got the Giulietta and a bourbon drink I forgot the name of. I didn't try the bourbon because I hate bourbon. The Giulietta packed a punch of flavors with the pomegranate and rose and a light hint of strawberry. For entree we got the bucatini carbonara. Nicely done; I should've added some more fresh black pepp though. The Linguini Fruti Di Mare was briny in the best way you'd expect a squid ink pasta and full of seafood. The Campanella Pasta with veal ragú was to die for. I didn't expect that shape to go with that kind of ragu but it works. Best pasta dish we had. The veal was melt in your mouth tender. The pastas all tasted so fresh. There's just something about a homemade pasta that makes all the difference. I want to try the pizzas too! The service was also wonderful. TL;DR Final Verdict: Really awesome spot for all different types of regional Italian dishes. Usually not a fan of going out for Italian, since I eat so much of it at home, but this is a place I cannot wait to come back too. Now, let's get into a review. Environment: When you walk into Mangia Bene, you walk into a rather large bar area, with tons of seating. There is also a second dining area on the side, behind the bar, and that's where we sat. I was thoroughly surprised how packed this place was (followed all COVID precautions) on a Tuesday night, but I was definitely happy to see this. Highly recommend you make reservations, as I am sure glad I did. The bar is beautifully set up, and the entire place is nicely lit with all the staff dressed very professionally. The tables are beautiful, and somehow they even made the touchless menu sign located on every single table very classy, certainly a hard thing to do. Staff: The staff really was awesome here. As a server myself, I can tell when the staff if genuinely happy to be there, and I honestly regret not getting our servers name. I believe he said his name was Oscar, but I'm not 100% sure. If the owner is reading this, please look who was serving the second dining room on Tuesday night (02/23/21), because he really was a great server. Have nothing but good things to say about him! Anyways, the staff poured us our sparkling water, set up the table beautifully, and was super friendly. When I had a few questions regarding best choices on the menu, they were eager to answer, and were not snarky or trying to upsell like I find is the case most of the time. Now, let's move on to the food. Drinks: For drinks, I had the apollonia. This play on a bourbon sour was very refreshing, slightly sweet, and as you can tell, very nice looking. My date had the italian mule, and while she is very picky on her food and drinks, she ended up loving it and having two. Cocktails honestly were one of the highlights of the meal, and although I'd love to try some of the other choices on the menu, that'll be my go to when I return. Appetizer: For appetizer, we decided to try the marinara pizza. While I would've gone with a more exotic pizza (since they all sounded great), as I mentioned before my date is a very picky eater, so we went nice and simple. The sauce was the perfect combination of tangy and sweet, the olive oil drizzled on top was high quality, and the slight char on the crust was a nice addition. While the pizza wasn't too big, it was a perfect appetizer to start the meal. We had about four small slices each, and were not uncomfortably full like you would be from eating a regular pizza. Entree: For entree, I was between the bucatini carbonara and the garganelli siciliano. I honestly could not decide, as both sounded excellent, so I decided to ask our waiter what he recommended between the two. While he did say both are good, he asked if I was into mushrooms, as the casarecce was the best dish on the entire menu in his opinion. After hearing this, I was sold, and did a full portion of it. I'm so glad I took his advice! *Keep in mind by the way, a half portion is not enough for one person. Only get this if you're going to get two different kinds of pastas. In reality, a normal person will need a full portion.* The sauce on the pasta was super rich and decadent, the mushrooms were nicely cooked but not overcooked, and the hint of greens in the pasta added a nice freshness to the dish. It was honestly excellent, and if I didn't have to deal with the repercussions, I'd eat it every single day. My date may be picky, but I forced her to try a strand of pasta with just sauce, no mushroom, and she absolutely loved it. Now that's saying something. Dessert: We were so stuffed from all the food, that we did not save any room for dessert unfortunately. The dessert menu looked great, so we'll save that for next time. The Bill: Here's how it all broke down. I had 2 apollonias, my date had 2 italian mules. We had a pizza to share. I had the casarecce, and my date had the chicken mangia bene. The bill came to $128 after tax before tip. Keep this in mind if you plan on going here. Was reasonable and fair, and the quality was incredible so I definitely did not mind spending it at all. The Conclusion: Being a first generation Italian American, with parents straight off the boat, I've eaten a lot of Italian food. For this reason, Italian is usually my last choice when going out to eat, but this restaurant came so highly recommended I knew I had to go. After going, I can say with confidence you should run here, not walk, and make those reservations, as you'll need them! Also, the owner or manager walked around and checked up on us, making sure everything came out okay. Definitely a classy touch.
