I cannot recommend this gourmet fresh organic ingredients used fine restaurant highly enough! Chef Raymond is an amazing personable chef. He serves customers entrees to their table himself which I find to be a lovely personal touch. Even during this trying time we are currently living in as a diner you are not rushed to eat and run, instead we are encouraged to sit and enjoy the food and atmosphere. That is rare these days except on the Island. The ingredients in each recipe he offers are freshly acquired from local sources. I love that! We will most definitely return for another fabulous meal next time we visit Orcas Island and Eastsound. read more

Oh my goodness, how and why did it take me this long to dine at Kingfish?? Overall I'd give Kingfish 4.5 stars, but am bumping it up based on the view, overall cozy/warm interior, and flavorful fresh food (plus complimentary bites). I've been visiting Orcas every year for the past 25+ years and finally made a reservation on a Saturday evening for my family during our most recent trip. We stopped in around 6:45, and it was already getting dark (PNW October for you) although several diners were enjoying the outdoor dining deck. That view! They did have fires going as a source of heat, but it would have been a little too chilly for me, plus there is still a view from inside. For drinks my parents and I split a bottle of Orcas Island Winery Rose ($88). Definitely a tasty option, although I'm sure you could find an enjoyable, more affordable bottle/glass on the menu. They don't serve cocktails so you're going to want to be in a beer, wine, cider or seltzer mood! Since we were a bit peckish we ordered two dishes of the Grilled Miche Bread ($5), each small plate containing two slices. The barn owl bakery bread was indeed grilled and generously coated in Lopez Island evoo, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. I personally would have preferred slightly less seasoning but it was still an enjoyable carby snack. Oh! Our waitress brought out four complimentary savory Madeleines to enjoy shortly after we were seated. They smelled delicious but were not plant-based, so I opted out... trying to keep my dairy consumption down you know. For my entree I was debating between the Fettucine Pesto Alla Genovese ($24) and the Roasted Cauliflower Steak ($26). I ended up going with the fettucine and was very happy with my choice! The dish contained house-made pasta, Crows Farm Italian basil pesto, Hopewell Farm green beans, and baby potatoes. So much flavor! I omitted the cheese that they usually serve on top and the dish was still delicious. I would have preferred maybe a titch less salt, but it wasn't too too much. Even though the pesto contained a little bit of garlic (what an ingredient to be intolerant of, jeesh) I was a-okay. I appreciate that they offer a plant-based entree, but the cauliflower was missing a little something something, The cauliflower entree contained stewed tuscan beans, roasted garlic, pattypan squash, walla walla onions and tomatoes, plus smoked paprika. Some crispy roasted dino kale, toasted panko and a squeeze of lemon would have been nice. My mom snagged a bite of my pasta and preferred it as well. My mom and sister enjoyed the Mixed Greens Salad ($14) and my dad loved his Pan Roasted Salmon Salad ($38)... which is simply the Mixed Greens Salad with pan roasted salmon on top. So pretty! Our waitress brought out another complimentary treat--homemade chocolate squares--to end the meal. Soooo good! The right amount of sweet + bitter with a perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture. I wish I could purchase this chocolate at a store! Although I would end up inhaling it every day, so maybe it's a good thing that it's not easily accessible. Given the view and quality, prices are about right. The interior is very cozy and welcoming, not too dim like a lot of restaurants are these days, and definitely not pretentious. Service was decent, not extraordinary but no real complaints. Long story short, we're definitely coming back next visit! read more

Service was exceptional. The menu was great. For people like me (age 66), the sound level was great. The view is great, and the location is very easy to find and to park (our cars own us, we have to put them in a retirement home every time we go somewhere). I would give the food 4 out of 5 stars. Came here for dinner on a very rainy day. Enjoyed the hospitality and good food. The burrata, beets and tomato appetizer (stracciatella) was our favorite dish, was great on top of the housemade bread. The boullabaisse and cauliflower steak were also worth mentioning. Fried green tomatoes were as good as fried green tomatoes can be. The only thing we could have and should have skipped was the fettuccine primavera which was not flavorful and had ribbons of raw vegetables which we were not expecting. We went to Kingfish for a celebratory dinner and they did not disappoint. Everything - from the warm wood and surprising quiet atmosphere to the warm and funny server to the outstanding food - was perfect! They start you off with an friendly greeting, a quick trip to your table (on a stormy night ours was next to the propane stove!), the presentation of a lovely amuse bouche and answers to questions about the menu. We had the burger (enough for two meals and perfect hand cut fries) and the pork ragu on house made pasta. All was cooked just right and was so flavorful we almost licked our plates! They have a very nice wine list with some good local offerings as well as choices from further afield. Dessert, which we probably should have by passed because we were plenty full, was a decadent flourless chocolate tart - yum!! We've eaten at every restaurant on the island - some many times - but this is our new favorite. Go! You'll love it! read more

Enjoyed a delicious weekday dinner for four in their dining room, which overlooks the bay. There is outdoor seating too. Wide selection of wines. We started with fried squash blossoms, scallop ceviche, beet and chèvre. It was all delicious. Entrees were excellent--I especially loved the lamb bolognese. Definitely order that and the burger. We had a wonderful weekend, staying in the Pine Suite and having dinner at Kingfish one night. The food was absolutely delicious and so well-prepared. We had oysters, ceviche, pasta with mushrooms, and the pot de chocolate for dessert, with a San Giovese wine from their extensive wine list. I can't even begin to express how unbelievably cool our experience at the Kingfish was. First off, we had the amazing pleasure of meeting the new owners, Holly and Raymond. Raymond used to be the exec Chef at the esteemed Rosario Resort (apparently an awesome historical place!) and left to realize their dream of their own restaurant and inn. Be sure to ask them to tell you the whole story- it's truly inspiring. So as you can imagine, Raymond's chefy skills are beyond amazing. So much love put into every thing he cooks--. And when you hear of his Philosophy towards sourcing as much as possible from the island and how the taste of locally produced and grown ingredients just makes such a huge difference, it makes his meals a gazillion times more special. And the farm down the street? Ya Raymond has a relationship with them- imagine eating a meal with produce grown a block away. Does it get fresher than that??? And let's talk about the inn. 5 stars all the way. Tons of surprises on the amenities front. Cheap k-cups? Nope- only the best. Dollar store soap? Nope-High end super nice smelling bath products. Super comfy memoRy foam/spring mattress with the highest end linens! More pillows then anyone would need but of course all used! Are those pillow cases ironed? Wow. I'm posting a pic of the view. It's a rainy weekend but still absolutely gorgeous. And finally, it truly felt that Holly was staring at her phone just waiting for us to ask questions or seek advice. This restaurant is the best on the Island. Chef Raymond is imaginative and highly skilled, making a delicious meal no matter what you choose. Jenny and her staff are friendly, competent, and efficient. The room has an authentic woodsy vibe, very comfortable and fun. Our large family group of 9 came for dinner in late April and ordered the bouillabaisse, osso bucco, fettucine primavera, bucatini, ragu alla bolognese, Judd Cove oysters and asparagus gribiche. All of the dishes were delicious--and our server Jenny was SO thoughtful and efficient and helped us choose a bottle of Sagemoor Without Rehearsal Sauvignon Blanc and a bottle of Big Red by Orcas Wine Co. We were excited to try out Kingfish since we have been regulars at Rosario where the chef came from. The location is good with great views to West Sound. We sat on the deck but the interior looked charming. Started dinner with the burrata, beet, heirloom tomato salad. It wasn't just a blob of burrata on the plate - it was nicely flavored and was almost like a dip. For entrees we tried the pork chop and steak frites. Both were wonderful. The proteins were prepared well and the sides were well thought out and very complimentary. The blackberry crumble for desert tasted just like grandma made. It feels like the menu has something for whatever you are feeling. Pasta, a burger, ceviche... without being too cumbersome. The wine list was a bit of a challenge. It's great to see support for local wines but I did miss the more traditional offerings. That said, the Constitution Cab was delish. Looking forward to returning soon! read more

This is now our favorite restaurant on the island. It's under new management and we went there recently to try it out. The staff welcome you and make you comfortable. Their knowledge of the menu is outstanding and their passion for the food is obvious. The variety and selection for a small island is unbelievable. And the food rocks! We have been here twice and the meals were fantastic both times. The owner, and Chef, Raymond personally welcomes you with an Amuse-Bouche. The small plate, Grilled Miche Bread, is served warm and melts in your mouth. The entrees are ideal in size which means room for dessert! Our first visit I had the pleasure of devouring the Bouillabaisse Marseillaise and my companion the Steak Frites (tenderloin). We rounded out the meal with the amazing Creme Brûlée! On our next visit, on my birthday, we both chose the Lum Farm Ragu alla Bolognese and were amazed at the how tender the pork was and full of favor the dish was. Fantastic!! No dessert this time only because we had birthday cake waiting at home! The menu may seem simplistic but that is what makes you come back - knowing that whatever divine dish you choose you will not be disappointed. Lovely ambiance and wonderful staff. We landed at the Kingfish because we were looking at a boat for sale nearby. It has proven a wonderful discovery. The inn is comfortable and tastefully decorated. The restaurant is wonderful. Went for their reopening tonight and it was an incredible experience. My wife got the Burger and I got the rabbit bolognese. Both meals were some of the best food we've ever had in our lives. I almost ordered a second main dish for myself since we are leaving the island in the morning. The cheesecake and apple crumble were both amazing. But the cheesecake really stood out. Chef Raymond checked in with us throughout the meal and everyone at King Fish made us feel so welcome. They also made us feel so safe given COVID is still wreaking havoc. I appreciated all guests wearing their masks indoors and out when they were not eating. It was just a great experience.
