My husband and I had a great time at the Kingfish this last Thursday! We had been wanting to go to Kingfish for awhile after we heard the owner Raymond had left Rosario Resort to open his own place. The food is top notch. We ended up having the winter salad, moroccan carrots (order these!), and penne with lamb bolognese, and linguine carbonara. Everything was delicious! Raymond came out at the end of our meal and chatted with guests and regulars; it was a great way to close out the night and was so appreciated. We'll be back! read more

I was looking for something unique when I found the All Dreams Cottages and Kingfish Inn. That I found! I rented Isle Dream cottage. It is a small romantic, intimate cottage with everything you could want. It has a kitchenette, the most comfortable bed, and was it quiet. It was exactly what I was looking for. Fantastic dinner, service, and lovely view! Without much planning, we took our boat to Orcas Island. The King Fish Inn was so close to us. We quickly looked online at the reviews which were amazing. Made reservations ( which you will need) and then had our plan to head there for dinner. The food was excellent and could not have been better. We ended up having appetizers, entrees, and shared a dessert. The ceviche and halloumi cheese were wonderful appetizers. We then had a mushroom/hazelnut pasta dish and also the sablefish and red risotto which were delicious. The apple crumble with homemade ice cream topped it off. Had an amazingly delicious New Years Eve dinner with friends (we're all Orcas Islanders) at King Fish that could not have been more perfect. Chef Raymond (new owner and chef) personally came to say hello and make sure we were well taken care of. Our waitress was friendly, sweet and efficient. Almost all ingredients are from local sources and then Chef Raymond adds his magic in the kitchen. Everyone at our table went home very happy! read more

Generous wine pours and a small, but well chosen list of wines by the glass. I had the flat iron steak and it was perfection! The atmosphere is casual, but the food is elegant. The view is fabulous too. Get out of Eastsound and explore other dining options - Kingfish is worth the drive! read more

Very disappointed in this business and how they handled our recent reservation. We had made a reservation almost two weeks ago specifically asking for outside seating. Upon entering my newlywed wife as we were on our honeymoon was told that there was no outside seating. When she said we had requested outside seating the response was so does everyone else. Well for our nice dinner on our honeymoon we decided to go elsewhere. Really need to figure out how to deal with customers. We were trying to support a new local business and chef. Not sure how the food would have been as we were excited to try. I also understand during this pandemic that things are difficult for business so I feel horrible to have to make this review. But very unhappy about the service. read more

Exquisite epicurean energy! Can we give this place 10-stars? Our November 7, 2020, Saturday evening dinner at King Fish was spectacular, as we were treated to a special tasting menu that exceeded our (high) expectations. Hand-delivered to our table safely by the ever-masked and high-energy Canuck Chef Raymond, each morsel combined complementary flavors and textures. Holly's humble hospitality and Ali's astute attention to our table made the entire dinner one of our favorite culinary experiences! Chef Raymond sent us home with butter tarts and fresh whipped cream which we now are savoring over our morning coffee. We had such a special dinner - party of 7. Chef Raymond and his team provided superb service and absolutely delicious food, satisfying both vegetarians and meat eaters alike! Went to Kingfish for a special dinner while vacationing on Orcas. While we had a reservation, the restaurant was full and we had to wait 40 minutes or so for a table. The staff and the chef owner did a great job handling the situation (and similar situations for other reservations coming in after us). Once we were seated, the evening became a true delight. We sampled several appetizers (paté, oysters, and squash blossoms) while the chef stopped by to explain how he sources so many of his ingredients locally. Then, on to the entrees. Both were delicious. Make sure that you save room for dessert, especially if you are there when berries are in season for the crumble. read more

Excellent, knowledgeable service, great WA/OR wine list, and exceptional food featuring local produce, fish, cheeses, etc. The staff accommodated GF requirements without making it feel like a big deal. Wow...The food was/is spectacular, the setting exactly what you would want in the San Juans, and chef Raymond is charming and talented (was at Rosario before buying this place!). Also, our server, Alison ("with one 'l') was efficient and funny to the max. We picked it for our 50th Anniversary dinner. This is long overdue to write a review. This was in the top meals I have ever eaten in my life. Everything was cooked perfectly and had creative pairings. The chamomile sage ice cream cookies are incredible. The service was excellent, the food amazing, and the view stunning. A must if you're visiting Orcas Island. read more

We loved it the first time that we came back just over a month later. Chef Raymond Southern has done a wonderful job creating these dishes and using a lot of local ingredients. He cooks a mean burger and is probably the Best on the Island, and reasonably priced. The fries that come with it complements the flavor of the burger. I have personally enjoyed the pasta dishes, including the carbonara! It is a welcoming restaurant and the servers have been great so far! Keep up the good job! read more

On a very rainy night in mid-September, we were fortunate enough to score a reservation at the Kingfish Café in Westsound on Orcas Island. It was a real treat for the chef to come visit with warm savory madeleines and have him describe some of his favorites on the current menu, which changes seasonally with the local abundance on the island. For example, he noted the scoop of sweet-potato and Pisco sorbet on top of the ceviche, a turn on ceviche from Lima, Peru where he spent 7 years. He also suggested the warm cornmeal encrusted fried green tomato with a not-too-spicy remoulade and the creamy duck liver mousse, accompanied with rich oiled toasts and fresh greens. For the mains, we enjoyed the steak frites (hand cut frites), the unusual sablefish salad, and especially the handmade pappardelle with mushroom ragu. The mushrooms were, of course, local. If you don't want to have any of their excellent wine choices, the Kingfish actually features two house made shrubs, which make for a refreshing aperitif sans alcohol. My husband and I went the Kingfish Inn for a little get away. When we arrived there was a nice name tag on the door for us. There was complimentary Champaign, snacks, juice, hot chocolate, and coffee. They even had yogurt in the fridge. The room was very nice. We stayed in the Alder room. The bed was comfortable and the sheets we soft. There were plenty of pillows to choose from. They have a TV with HBO and many other channels. The view was great. It doesn't take long to get to town. It was a nice spot to have a get away. I would stay there again. read more

This restaurant and inn has a lovely location on Westsound with water views over the marina from its outdoor dining deck. The interior of the restaurant is Pacific Northwest cozy - open, with wood-lined panels and booths. The menu is ambitious, with a variety of small plate options that could make a meal, plus pastas (the lamb bolognese is a standout) and protein (steak frites and pork chop are often on the menu). The wine list has a nice selection of local and regional wines, with a focus on Orcas Island winemakers. Everything about this spot is setup for great success, and it could be a five-star review, were it not for the fact that the food is almost universally oversalted. I've eaten here several times and it's always the same. I am not particularly sensitive to salt, so for me to notice this is remarkable. If the chef would use a lighter hand on the salt shaker, the flavors of the local ingredients will shine brighter! read more

One of the best places I've ever stayed! My wife and I honeymooned on Orcas Island and chose this place based on a recommendation. Hosts Lori and Bob are super nice and the accommodations were superb. The inn is about 15 minutes from town, very tranquil and overlooks the water. Our room was very comfortable (as was the bed!) and looked out over the water as we enjoyed the nice breeze. The amazing food made the stay that much more perfect. Bob is an amazing chef! The restaurant is only open for dinner, but since we stayed there, we also were treated to the most amazing breakfast. Better than any 5star hotel! read more

WOW- what a special & magical evening! We have decided that there is nowhere better to eat on Orcas Island (and we have been coming here for 20 years). We have always loved this little spot but the new owners have taken it to a completely different level. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave it is such an enjoyable & relaxed experience. It was a special and magical night at this cozy, rustic spot with locally sourced & incredibly thoughtful, seasonal ingredients. Charming & gourmet without being too "precious" & not stuffy/fancy. We ordered the salad which was incredible, the burrata, squash blossoms, miche bread, the spring pasta, and the steak frites. And to top it off the fantastic peach cobbler & sage ice cream. Everyone loved every bite including our kids (ages 12 & 16). And I should mention our incredibly sweet & attentive server who never once seemed bothered despite having to do her job in full mask etc- added to the overall wonderful experience. Fantastic wine list too. Please go here on your next trip to Orcas- even if you are not staying in West Sound, it's absolutely worth the drive over. (Plus it's such a beautiful & peaceful view!). We had no idea what to expect but they had a vacancy on new year's weekend at the last minute. It was closer to ferries than most of the other lodgings, near Turtleback mountain and not far from Eastsound. The restaurant downstairs, the West Sound Cafe, was closed for the season, but the owners of both the inn and restaurant Richard and Nanae came in to make us breakfast each morning. When they finished cooking (smoked salmon scrambles, french toast, banana muffins and locally roasted coffee) they would come and sit in the gorgeous dining room overlooking West Sound with us guests. The rooms are beautiful and the care that Richard and Nanae have put into the details at the inn are obviously. We stayed in the Lodge Pine room. All the rooms have gorgeous views (I mean, it's Orcas island, right?). Our room had a rustic four post pine bed (hence the name of the room), and a cozy nook with a writing desk. The room is heated, but we turned it off so we could experience the gas fireplace. Can't wait to go back when the Cafe is officially open for the summer season (starting in March, I am told). read more

Stayed in the suite. The bed is comfy and the room nice. Parking isn't available due to the restaurant taking up all the parking. You can park down the road, but it's not convenient. The restaurant is incredibly loud, pounding through the walls after closing is just awful. Hard to get an early nights rest after a long day of hiking. Overall, $550 for two nights really isn't worth the value. Disappointing. read more
