My wife & I have been fairly long-time, loyal customers... and it saddened us seeing so many Kings Food Markets close, between Warren, Chatham, Bernardsville, etc., but we are so happy that the Bedminster location has stayed afloat, and in business... Everything is always super-fresh, well stocked, very clean, and they have a wide array of specialty items across the board. More recently, they hired a new Store Manager by the name of Jen, who is absolutely delightful, super-helpful, friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, professional, lovely, and very down-to-earth! So that being said, this has rapidly become our new favorite supermarket in the area. Of course, some prices could be a tad bit cheaper, but that could easily be said for just about anything or anywhere! We've always had nothing but all-positive experiences and outstanding customer service at this location, with no snags or complaints whatsoever. And if anything was ever wrong (per se), the Manager would always make it up to their customer(s) in fine style, with 100% certainty. Rarely do I enter Kings/Acme because I see the employees simply do not like working there and have not been happy for a long time judging by the groups of employees on breaks outside of the Bedminster store sharing tails of woe with each other. I much prefer Trader Joes, Fresh Market, Costco and ShopRite. I think I'd even add Target or Walmart before Kings/Acme. The managers cannot inspire their work force enough for anyone to take some pride of employment, let alone ownership. My annoying and probably petty observation; a front door, automated, so lacking lubrication, that the door screams, squeals and grinds itself shut, which clearly will accelerate the end of that door motors life needlessly. Do not shop at the store besides the prices being astronomically outrageous I found the meat and produce to not be the most fresh at all. Also, they have convenience food that is crazily expensive. I think this is the best one out of all the Kings markets. The staff is superb! They seem to hang on to their employees, so you see the same people for years. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. This store also seems to be going through a major renovation. Looks 1000% better and it looks like they might have taken over one of the empty, neighboring stores - making it much larger. read more

It's a gourmet grocery store. A big focus on prepared foods, hot bar, cold bar, and organic items. I would not come here for small, everyday type of items, but if I am in the market for fresh seafood or a specialty cut of meat I'll check here. I did have soup off of their hot buffet once and it was a little disappointing but not bad. read more

Very disappointed. Kings is my next door quick shop grocery store. I say quick shop because it has always been so much more expensive than the places where I shop for main groceries. My daughter and I always used to get chicken parmesan from the deli. This was expensive but worth it. Yesterday I went there and bought two pieces and nearly fell down when the price was $27.10. I like Kings. It's not my favorite grocery store, but I like the store for what it is. The store is a smaller supermarket than say ShopRite. but you will probably find something here for you. I like how if you need to get deli or any of those other stations, where there's someone behind the counter, they have in great big letters and you can see it through every part of the store. They do have great produce, great cooking supplies as well. I also liked that they have some candy machines, which I feel would be very popular with the young 'uns. The store also has good cooking wines, some that I can never find in other supermarkets. It is quite pricey. I found a few things that I liked. but I wanted to save money to buy stuff cheaper. However, I did like this supermarket. Hopefully, I get one closer to me! read more

This is hands down the very best supermarket in the area. I give special credit to the fantastic deli, which makes the best roast beef sloppy joe in the entire area, in my opinion (better even than Millburn Deli, my family thinks). Kings also gets products from some of the best gourmet suppliers in New Jersey, such as Vitamia in Lodi, which has fabulous packaged manicotti and stuffed shells. Bagels come from, I believe, Bagel Chateau, which was recently named best bagel shop in the state by NJ magazine. The addition of upscale Balducci's products has also brought the store up to a higher level. I only take off one star because I think Kings should do better getting local produce when it's available, especially in the summer. read more

During a recent return trip to NJ to soak up the local cultural flavor, stopped at King's to get some really good rye and Russian rye. Was somewhat disappointed because they only had about 4 packs of rye availalbe early on a Monday morning. Hope to find a better supply during next trip to NJ. Cheese department was great! read more

That is, if you are trying to bring in and sustain customers at your store. As is any Kings Supermarket, you will find several commonalities - excruciatingly high prices, a plentiful amount of organic, natural, and 'fresh' items, and a small section with scented candles, woodlen bowls, and the like. My trips here are generally short and only for a few basic products - waters, Gatorades, chips and the occasional steak. read more

Food safety is a major concern in this store. I had severe food poisoning after eating the fish that I bought and thoroughly cooked. I thought that I was going to die with the severity of my nonstop vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The worst gastrointestinal symptoms that I have ever experienced in my life! Similar incident happened to me before with their food. In the previous incident, I had horrifying abdominal pain and diarrhea after eating pickled olives from their salad bar. They make great pizza but the problem is that they don't train people properly on how to make it. There were 3 bubbles the side of mountains and the cheese was spread unevenly. And when you cut something, the knife or blade should make contact with the counter. Very sloppy, uncooked and uncut pie. I've always been a fan of Kings, although I m not rich enough to shop here on a daily basis I do like their prepared food section tremendously at this location and come here at least once a week for lunch. I come here especially for their Neapolitan pizza. It's tremendously amazing, and not just on a supermarket level but on a pizzeria level. The first time I had it I was just blown away that a supermarket could actually pull off a pizza this good. If you are a fan of Veste, Amano or Apizz in Montclair you will likely be a fan of this pizza. The pie is right on par with those pizzas. From the imported wood fired oven which burns at 800 degrees to the primo ingredients; hand stretched fresh mozzarella, a freshly made sauce made of San Marzano tomatoes to the light dusting of pecorino Romano...... I am salivating at the thought of eating it once again. It's sooooo good and the best thing, if you are by your self and not super hungry you can buy it by the half pie for $4 and a quarter. An awesome deal if you ask me. They have a nice section of tables to enjoy lunch at and a superb selection of soft drinks and teas as well. One of the finest selections of any of the Kings I've been too and so far the only one in the area with a pizza station. read more

Let me start by saying that I like almost everything I get from Kings. Lots of variety and the food is of above average quality. Yesterday we tried their pizza. Disappointed does not adequately describe my reaction. My wife called and was told it would be an hour before it was ready for pickup, she commented that the guy answering the phone sounded like she was bothering him (she almost never has anything bad to say so it must have been really bad). We arrived a little before the hour and the pizza was waiting for us sitting on a counter. When I carried it to checkout the box not warm. Got it back to where we are staying ( just minutes away) and it was ice cold. Heating it up in the oven made it hot but did nothing for the soggy undercooked crust. I love pizza but this has to rate as one of the top three WORST pizzas I've ever experienced. Expected better from Kings! read more

I only shop there for last minute items that I might need but will never buy anything there at full price. Also the bagged salads are like $4.99 when ShopRite has the same usually on sale for much less. I tried the pizza and it was soggy and disgusting. When the Center of Excellence center is built just down the highway in Bridgewater, a proposed ShopRite is scheduled. Kings will need to drastically cut it's prices to compete or go out of business at that location. read more

I recently moved to Bedminster and tried to buy some groceries in Kings in the Hills Shopping Center on Monday evening, June 21st but found the store closing at around 8 PM. Believe me, I understand not wanting to pay staff if your store is not doing any business at that time, but conservatively speaking, there were at least a dozen or more people walking towards the store, wanting to shop and were turned away. I try to do my shopping at Trader Joe's or Shoprite because Kings is overpriced on most items, but the convenience of going local to Kings sometimes makes more sense. The only areas of the store which are competitive and fairly priced are the Seafood Area and the Fruits and Vegetable Area. The Seafood Section is especially well run and always has fresh products. Whoever manages that area is doing an excellent job. read more

I am sorry to see the Kings I used to love go so far downhill over the past three months. Their deli counter isn't as fresh as it once was. Soups are still great but too many outdated things in perishables. I sent Kings a direct message about the next item... last week I purchased three large apple turnovers. I placed them into one of the boxes they have available for that purpose. That evening I went to have one and the turnovers were covered with ants! I couldn't believe it. I don't have ants in my home. I'm so disgusted I doubt I'll get anything perishable in that store again. Since 1989, I have shopped at the Kings Market in Bedminster. Over the years, I have had good service but more often than not, the service does not align with the expectations or price point. Tonight was the ultimate - I had the worst experience and will never recommend this location to anyone. I went in for a fresh pizza from their pizza oven as I have had it before and it is very good, fresh and reasonably priced. Upon approaching the counter, I ordered a pizza only to be told that I could not have it. When I asked why? I was told because it was closing. What time do you close, I asked? The man paused and answered 7:45. It was 7:28! The oven was on and he refused to make the pizza. I thanked him and left - not purchasing anything else that I came there for. In an environment that caters to an upscale shopper, the service should match the elevated environment. At the Bedminster location, it DOES NOT. read more

Outstanding soups, speciality items and great workers, too. Today we met Catherine in their Deli. Catherine was accommodating. The store was running low on the soup we wanted and Catherine offered to heat up the same soup from their refrigerator section. We declined but it was a nice gesture on her part. This was followed by us checking out our food. Connie was our cashier and she was nice, as well. After checkout, Connie told us that we had been selected to receive money off our bill. Apparently, this store "randomly selects" customers and takes a certain amount off their bills. We left their store pleasantly surprised. read more

Well - I agree they are more expensive than other stores, but the products and the brands that they carry are premium quality... King's produce is noticibly better than comparable items at Shop Rite (and even Wegman's in my opinion).... Best advice - for staple products (Mayonnaise, Tomato Sauce etc) shop elsewhere. For premium brands/speciality items and prepared foods (Bell and Evan's Chicken, Silver Palate Dressings, gourmet cold cuts) Kings has extremely good quality and is worth the extra $. read more

This review is specific to the Bedminster Township, New Jersey store only - not any of the other excellent Kings stores. I am concerned about food safety in this store. On three occasions, I found expired milk and notified store employees about the expired product. Each one promptly scoffed and ignored my warnings and did not notify the dairy department or if they did - their concerns were ignored. This careless and reckless attitude from not one, not two, but THREE employees can only come from the manager, who does not care about food quality or safety and who does not encourage workers to care about customer safety, customer service and product quality. I have other bad feedback, which I don't feel like writing right now. Take my advice - try a different Kings- use Mendham, Bernardsville or Short Hills or just go over to Fresh Market in downtown Pluckemin. Great grocery store. I'm the product of shopping at Shoprite and Whole Foods. Kings does a great job of offering what both stores do in one location. The meat selection is fresh and the butchers are super friendly. The deli is a great place for a quick meal when I get home late from work. My only complaint is that the vegetable section can use some variety and better produce. I've had trouble finding fresh produce on several occasions. Yes, the store is small and yes it is pricier than others. But I'm not going to drive 20 plus minutes to save a few dollars on groceries that I just waste on gas. I like that I can walk to Kings, get my groceries, and have a nice chat with some of my favorite checkout ladies! read more

Went to Kings to buy butter flavored shortening. Went to baking supplies area and the had very limited shortening choices and no butter flavored. Then went to front customer service desk to ask if they carried it. Woman responded she only had cigarettes and lottery tickets. After she noticed my puzzled look, she said she had no idea and she did not know where the baking section was located. She did offer to help me look if I would show her where to look. We walked to the section and none. Asked her to check in her computer. She indicated the computer was an old DOS program that something could only be found if they knew the brand and where it was located in the store. Really? This store is always so frustrating to find something. I do all I can to avoid going there. Went to Wegmans and got what I needed with great customer service. read more
