I'm surprised by the ratings. Ordered this as takeout and was extremely disappointed. The futomaki was only 4 pieces for $13, yikes. All the avocado was overly ripe, to the point it was almost bad. The crab, both soft shell and regular, was overly fishy tasting, indicating questionable quality. After trying NUMEROUS other recommended sushi bars, we almost gave up on looking for good sushi in the area. Kinja has AMAZING friendly service and delicious, fresh sushi. Everything we had was delicious and the seafood was fresh -- my dad is a fisherman and I am very picky about my seafood. The rolls were tight and the rice was sticky and flavorful. Although the restaurant wasn't very busy at the time I went in, my food was made pretty quickly! I ordered the Unakyu roll and the Salmon avocado roll. Overall, I thought the fish was pretty good and both were filling. I definitely preferred the Unakyu over the salmon only because, and never thought I'd say this, there was too much avocado to salmon ratio. Perennial Concord favorite "Happy Roll" Sushi has changed hands and reopened as Kinja Sushi Concord, an off-shoot from Kinja Sushi Oakland. The interior looks mostly the same, and you'll see some familiar faces among the wait staff. The menu however has seen a major overhaul. Updated touches make themselves apparent with more urban music pared back sleeker decor. Still in Soft open mode we enjoyed our meal tremendously. Kinjadon, aka Korean Chirashi (Hwe dup bop) was a generous portion of raw fish with sweet spicy gochujang sauce over warm brown rice. A nice take on the dish. We also had the S Cubed Roll (Tempura asparagus, crab meat, tuna, black & white sesame seeds with unagi sauce and spicy mayo) and the Baby Yoda Roll. I kicked in a Spicy tuna Hand Roll for good measure. All in all...very happy with the changes they've made. They have kept the surroundings familiar enough to please the regulars and made enough changes to inject a fresh sensibility to the restaurant. This place is a complete hit or miss. I have been ordering food from this establishment for a while now, and although the food is good, the service is not. We ordered delivery tonight and although our delivery driver was there waiting for over an hour for our food, we never received it because (according to our driver who was sitting there waiting), the people working inside were more interested in the people arriving then those of us who have already ordered and paid for the food. Mind you, I always order a large amount because everyone at the house likes to eat. They kept disregarding delivery orders (from various delivery companies) which is rude and disrespectful. I placed my order at 5ish, and by 8pm, the order was still not finished prepping it. If they didn't want money, they shouldn't promote that they deliver through Uber and DoorDash. Word of advice, do not order for delivery, just go to the place and eat and leave, huge waste of time. read more

There were three lovely ladies who were standing by the counter, all who invited us in genuinely. Spicy tuna maki, minus the spicy tuna. Sashimi 6 pieces tuna, that came with salmon, minus the tuna. The small bottle of sake never arrived and I couldn't get the waitress attention due to the noise and partying going on. People the F bombs were flying when the team didn't score. All of this, while families with small children were trying to eat dinner. If you want a sports bar with mediocre food, and bad service, this is the place for you. We won't return. read more

Stopped by with the wife after a movie. Asked the server what was fresh she gave the always awesome to hear "everything" We ordered a roll and a sampler that brought a roll, nigiri and sashimi. I requested that the sashimi be amberjack and salmon. They brought out a separate plate of amberjack and salmon which we thought was part of the sampler. When the sampler came out we commented to the server that we had not ordered an extra plate but wanted the sashimi from the sampler to be amberjack and salmon. She did not really understand what we were saying and from the bar two employees just scream out it's not worth it just take it off! Not worth debating it. We just wanted to notify her that she placed an extra order we didn't want and were not trying to get it comped but after their rude approach I was like fuck it they want to comp it no problem. I get the check, item is still there. I get up to go speak to them about it and one of their regulars or someone on a break is looking at me as if to size me up. SMH, This place is a joke. My husband is always craving sushi and when ever he wants sushi I always look for a restaurant that serves Ramen as I love Ramen. I'm so glad I found this place in Concord as it was excellent! The service was superb and extremely helpful and didn't feel rushed at all. The food was delicious!!! I got spicy tonkatsu ramen and it was a great spicy and not overpowering! Saw this one a lot but always at the time when they are closed. Today just out of the curiosity and they are opened and decided to give it a try. Not a big establishment, cozy, and you can tell by having one wait staff that maybe not too busy for the lunch time. It is consider pretty clean but it is interesting that they play pretty fast 80's music instead of Japanese music (just thought I am in a Japanese restaurant). They do not offer free miso soup like other Japanese restaurant when you come in. Because only one wait staff, take a little longer to order and get your food. Their hand rolls are good and you should eat that first. Mix sashimi is fresh but I think I had the better one (using better part of the tuna for example) but is good already. Presentation is above average in my opinion. One thing I should say is that the cup they used for the tea can hold the heat pretty good. Overall is a very good experience. 4.5 starts. read more

They could cater to more crowds by just putting a gallon jug of Sriracha sauce on the table instead of ruining good rolls. I went with a Bento box, which was average at best.
