We went in with no reservation around 7 pm and even though it was packed and busy we still managed to get seated immediately. The place itself was small and cozy had fun decor. We got gyozas for free appetizers and then ordered the some miso soup, Giants Roll, 49ers roll, and a mixed tempura plate to share. Food was delicious and at a good price too. This was close to our hotel and we got there about 40 minutes before they closed at 8 pm. Staff friendly and it was pretty quiet since it was almost closing time. We got the dinner bentos with 3 items for $36. Portions were huge and with the miso soup, salad and complimentary gyoza, it was a lot of food. One bento is easily 3 meals for me. Food was tasty. BF had beef in his bento that he said was it was a little tough. The tempura was crunchy and tasty-3 pieces of shrimp and various vegetables. One table was celebrating a birthday and they gave them a birthday cake and played the drums for him which was cool. I would definitely come back to try more. read more

The ambience of this place was very warm and inviting and I can see that this restaurant has a very special place in the pleasant hill community from all the pictures they've shared with their customers. It checks out, because everything is so delicious and everyone who works here is so kind. On top of checking on us multiple times to see if everything was fine, they also gave us multiple free appetizers as I'm assuming business was a bit slow and we went near closing. We even asked for extra ginger to go, forgot about it, and one of the workers tried to give it to us still while we were already getting into our car... A pretty solid Japanese restaurant. We wanted to split a Chirashi don but also added in some croquettes. This did not even include the complimentary gyoza and the complimentary fried shrimp. The croquettes were perfect - crispy and not too large. The complimentary apps were just right. The Chirashi don really stood out - a nice selection of fish and other items to complete the meal. We found plastic inside our beef sukiyaki. It was not a good feeling especially when the sukiyaki is $33 which isn't cheap, I would expect a higher quality and standard. Very disappointing. The sashimi quality for our cherry blossom roll is also mediocre. I would never come here again anymore. I would rather go to The Shoya or Toyosu which are similar price and even cheaper but the quality and taste and freshness are 100% better. Anyway I asked for a discount for the sukiyaki and they came back and took off the entire $33 from our bill. So that is good at least. read more

The bento also came with miso soup, salad, and a side of rice. The portions were HUGE--I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day (not complaining at all!). Tried Honda Sushi for dinner last night and had a few mixed feelings. This is definitely family owned and operated. They treat everyone who walks through that door like family and the service is extremely friendly. They are also very family oriented. They were always chatting with our kiddos and other kiddos at other tables. The amount of food they give you is crazy. The rolls were humongous! We were too hungry and I forgot to snap a photo, but they were HUGE. Our 2 item bento boxes were also XL. There was so much food! It was actually a little overwhelming. 1 piece of sashimi is actually 2 or 3 (they slice it really thick---which I'm actually not a fan of). The tempura was delicious. They were big pieces and I felt like they were prepared and fried well. Not overly greasy and the batter was nice. The fish seemed fresh, but I really don't care for thick slices of sashimi. Overall, everything was good, but the fish threw me off. I feel like you lack finesse when you do thick pieces of fish. The rolls also had so much rice. If you value quantity over quality, definitely recommend. If you value quality over quantity, I'd maybe skip. read more

We ordered side salads (4/5) and two sushi rolls (3.5/5) - rainbow and 49ers. I don't love the rolls here, as what they do with the rice isn't to my liking. They're also quite large, and one roll was enough for me. I would probably avoid rolls and just get sashimi or a bento box next time. Broth wasn't too salty either. * Volcano roll - I didn't try it, but my friend said it was good. * Nigiri hamachi belly, sake belly, and toro - these were the BEST nigiri I've had around Concord. The fish cuts were huge and there was more fish than rice in each piece. The fish was fresh, fatty, and melt-in-your-mouth tender... Just how I like it! My go-to for amazing nigiri was in Izumi Sushi in Serramonte (sadly a little far from me), but now I'm glad to have discovered the amazing nigiri at Honda Sushi! They were plated together with the volcano roll. I believe the gentleman who brought the sushi to us was the owner, Mr. Honda. Loved his smile and friendly demeanor. * Bento box salmon shioyaki and mixed tempura with salad, miso soup, rice, wakame, and orange slice - the tempura pieces were big and crunchy! I would prefer the salmon shioyaki to be a little more oily, but it was still good. Loved the miso soup and the light dressing on the salad. I ordered this thinking the nigiri wouldn't be that big or satisfying, but I ended up being relatively satisfied after the nigiri and took about half of the bento box home. My friend and I did arrive close to the end of the lunch hours, so one of the servers politely asked us to pay and pack our leftovers so they could clean up and prep for the dinner service. Came back here after a long hiatus. I was not happy with the previous service due to their "cutting costs" methods. However 9 years later, and the tempura is still fire. It may be $33 for a 3 item bento, but the portions are HUGE (tempura wise). The fish was ok. It wasn't the best cuts or quality, but still better than some places. The interior is the same. Hasn't changed. I would consider coming back here over other spots occasionally, especially for the tempura. read more

This place is legit. It's one of the VERY few sushi places actually owned and operated by a real Japanese sushi chef. The flavors here are very different from other sushi restaurants--it's delicate, light, and highlights the taste of the fresh seafood, rather than masked by salty and heavy sauces. The chef/owner Mr. Honda actually walks around to greet guests and check out the tables to see if you like the food. Friendly service and they threw in some free gyozas. We got the baja CA, lion king and caterpillar rolls. Somehow they gave me lambada (which sounds nothing like caterpillar) rolls and I didn't get my caterpillar roll. All of the rice was mushy on the rolls. Yuck. My son's chicken katsu was very salty (and he usually doesn't mind things a bit salty). I thought the miso soup was good and the tempura was good. I came here on Friday and ordered a few rolls - one Lion King, and two others that honestly the names escape me. The flavoring was just okay and they were pretty expensive. This place is a total hidden gem tucked away in a very unassuming, run-down plaza! I came for lunch and got their bento box special with teriyaki chicken and sashimi.
