Ok this restaurant pretty much flies under the radar. Kinley's does not get the recognition it deserves when it comes to Anchorage dining. I am here to tell you this place is good, and should not be overlooked! Pass over Moose's Tooth one night to give Kinley's a chance! We have dined here 4 times since moving to Anchorage so I could get a full spectrum of their rotating menu. First, it's a fairly casual setting. It's very modern and trendy looking. Lots of wood and marble. It is a very inviting space. Service is always friendly and attentive. They make sure to always check on your table, and fill your water/bread basket. They have a full bar with a decent selection of craft beer on draft, and in bottle. They also have a well rounded wine list, and selection of cocktails. Their menu items so rotate quite frequently so there are different options when you dine on different occasions. The food is creative, and there seems to be something for everyone. If you just want a burger, you can have a burger, but you can also have elegantly prepared seafood. It is eclectic dining, but presented in a way that I think even someone who is not very adventurous with their food can enjoy. The food is really delicious, and everything is prepared well. I have enjoyed every dish that we have tried here from the appetizers to the dessert. Everything is flavorful, and unique. For appetizers I always enjoy the calamari steak, Calamari Steak served pan seared with a tomato & herb beurre blanc. The calamari is lightly breaded, and cooked perfectly so it is not overly rubbery, and the sauce that it is served with is just divine. This will ruin your normal garden variety fried calamari forever. The fried brie is also another delicious option. They serve a nice size portion with a variety of accompaniments. The lobster ravioli is also delicious, but it is an uber tiny portion so buyer beware. When it comes to entrees I always like to see how the local fish is being prepared and served. There is typically at least 1 dinner special to add to your options for the evening. Typically a locally sourced fish preparation. One of my favorite entrees that has been consistently on the menu is the halibut cheeks. Cheeks are such a delicate part of the halibut, and arguably some of the best meat. The chef prepares them perfectly by lightly breading and pan searing the cheeks. They are then served with a decadent pancetta and pea risotto as well as a balsamic reduction. It is a delicious dish with a lot of great flavor, and also a very hearty portion of food. The fried chicken and waffle that was recently rolled out as a part of their fall menu has been another favorite of mine. I really enjoyed the non traditional take on this southern classic. The cheddar waffle is very tasty, and served with a heaping portion of chicken. The chicken is a boneless breast served as large tenders, which makes eating this dish much easier than when the chicken is bone in. The chicken is lightly breaded and fried perfectly so that it is flavorful and juicy. It is not greasy at all. The root beer bbq sauce that it is covered in is to die for. Rounded out with kale and sweet potato crisps to make you feel semi healthy. I really enjoyed this preparation of chicken & waffles. Between bringing family here, and my husband I have tried several different entrees, and have always been impressed. Everything is prepared really well, and taste delicious. Dessert is another treat at Kinley's. Everything is house made, and they rotate the flavors. Their house made cheesecakes are always decadent and really delicious. But, the star of the show is the mocha bourbon pecan torte. It is a flavor explosion. I would highly recommend giving Kinley's a try! read more

Kinley's is my go-to when I want a special meal that pays attention to details...even during these strange COVID times. In August, my husband and I ordered delivery to celebrate our anniversary. While we requested the salad dressing on the side, all of the sauces were packed as sides so that food items would not get soggy. In addition, they packed the cold items in one bag and the hot items in a second so that cold items stayed cold. I appreciate that attention to detail and the food was all delicious. Last weekend, we physically went to eat at the restaurant. They are clearly following all of the local recommendations for social distancing and table separation and use of masks. We had a reservation and were seated and greeted immediately. Our server was attentive without being overbearing, kept our glasses filled and allowed us to order our meal in phases so we could take our time with entrees, salads and the main course. My dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives was perfect and the best birthday gift to myself! My husband ate the coconut crusted rockfish and I had the newly changed pork chop. Both meals were impeccable in presentation and truly delicious. Dessert was the creme brulee special - strawberry shortcake - and was exactly what I didn't know I wanted for my birthday dessert. We proceeded to go to the Jo Koy stand up and he did a whole bit about customer service. And he nailed it. Full circle, like holy sh*t he just described our whole customer service experience (or lack of it) in a comedic skit. Maybe it's just a generation thing. So Kinley's was a bit of a wonderful surprise for us. We were driving back from Whittier, didn't want to stop in Girdwood, and were searching for a dinner spot in Anchorage. We did some preliminary reconnaissance along the drive in search of a good seafood spot, and many of the well-known seafood restaurants that had previously gotten good reviews and were often recommended seemed to be disappointing recent reviewers. Enter Kinley's. Long story short, we tried to get a reservation via Open Table and it was showing booked solid for the night. Thankfully, we decided to drive over, just in case and upon arrival, they could seat us immediately. (Now questioning my use of Open Table). Service and dinner were excellent from start to finish. Being a family of sharers, we order our own dishes, but everyone gets to taste others' selections. However, based on the quality of these meals, we each became a bit more possessive of our own plates. Fortunately, the portions were very generous. We enjoyed the Roasted Beet Salad with Grilled Halibut (chevre, candied maple walnuts, rosemary-orange reduction, and balsamic vinegar), the Almond Halibut Crusted filet (cherry and apple cider beurre blanc, jasmine rice, chef vegetables), and Cheeks (lightly dusted pan seared halibut cheeks, pancetta and pea risotto, lemon brown butter, basil oil, balsamic reduction), all of which were extraordinary! I was personally the owner of the Cheeks and had never had halibut cheeks before. This was hands-down, one of the best fish dinners I've ever had - and I grew up beside an ocean with ongoing fresh fish options. As usual, we were all very full, but being the enormous lovers of dessert that we are, we ordered the Mocha Pecan Torte (espresso-soaked chocolate cake, pecan ganache, coffee Sabayon, mocha crème Anglaise) and it was absolutely superb in both its taste and its presentation. My husband and I ventured into Kinley's Restaurant not really knowing what to expect. It was a Thursday evening around 7pm, and they were very busy. Thankfully, we were seated promptly at one of the tall chair tables behind the bar. The restaurant was clean, and had a lively atmosphere. I'll be honest, my husband and I are both on the picky side when it comes to different sauces and foods we're not familiar with, and that was basically Kinley's entire menu for us. We did finally settle on the Almond Halibut Crusted filet, cherry and apple cider beurre blanc, jasmine rice, chef vegetables. Of course, we had to ask our sweet server to explain to us what the cherry and apple cider beurre Blanc was, and she happily explained. We opted to order it on the side. When our food was brought to our table, we were very pleasantly surprised. It looked very pleasing, and I must say was delicious! While my husband did not eat his cherry and apple cider beurre Blanc, I enjoyed some of it with my fish. It reminded me of a cherry pie filling. I said before the food was extremely hit or miss but the employees were all nice. Unfortunately the food has been much more miss lately and all of the good employees seem to be leaving. I went with a friend and we split the hummus. The hummus was clumpy and grainy and the pita was too salty, too oily, and too baked all at the same time. She barely touched it and I had such a stomachache from it I wasn't even sure if I could eat my meal. I got the halibut and chips. The halibut was soggy and the breading was falling apart. The fries were lukewarm but still good though. Even with the fries being lukewarm the fish was very hot, I think it was poor timing on getting those ready. My friend had some fish that was drowning in oil! It didn't even mention any oil on the menu. When we mentioned it to the server she was brushed off as that's how it's supposed to come "with a drizzle of oil" (it was more like someone poured a half cup of oil, not a drizzle) and for mine I was told "have you ever had fish and chips? that's just how they are." We were only asked if we wanted to get something else when we were obviously displeased with the response we got. Like I said they're getting rid of all their good employees. But somehow they still have who I assume is the manager that isn't afraid to yell at staff or employees on the floor and make a scene. I wonder how this place is even open still. read more

This place has great drinks, we loved the glasses ours came in. The menu is one page and I remember feeling like I wanted more options. My friend had the steak entree and I had the halibut cheeks. The halibut cheeks had peas (not a fan) but to my surprise I couldn't taste them. We shared the lobster ravioli appetizer, my favorite of the night and two desserts - everything was cooked well and flavorful. Everything was plated pretty. Our server was cool and attentive. I love that it is mostly booth seating. Definitely a nice place for an important and/or special occasion as it's expensive and fancy but not too fancy. This is my first visit to this restaurant, a coworker picked this spot. The parking lot is shared with Moose's tooth. The restaurant holds its own, don't be mislead by the outside appearance. This place does pretty good business! The wait to be seated is not very long. It's clean, spacious and the staff is very friendly and attentive. (We went in right at the beginning of the dinner rush). My appetizer was the Lobster ravioli, it was very good, the melted cheese added to the overall flavor. I had a Caesar salad, it was really good too! My main course, I had the Chicken, that is just how it is listed on the menu. It was actually a grilled and sliced chicken breast with ramen noodles, Ginger-Miso-Lemongrass Broth, Mushrooms, Carrots, Bok Choy and local sprouts. I really enjoyed this dish, all of the flavors blended together nicely, nothing was over powering. It was not a heavy dish either, but It filled the tank! I had a Coca-Cola to wash it all down. The wait staff is on their game, I was checked on frequently and my glass never went empty! That is a good sign about the level of care the wait staff takes to ensure customers are happy and enjoying the experience. This restaurant is deceptive, it looks like it isn't doing good business, once you walk in, yo realize, it is doing really well. I will definitely dine here again! Our party visited Kinley's Restaurant on the final night of our Alaskan vacation to visit family. We quickly discovered that we had saved the best for last! The staff was friendly when we called to make our reservation for 4. Our server, Matt, was very welcoming and provided helpful information about the items on the menu and the specials for the evening. Everything we ordered was out of this world! 3 members of the party ordered the special which was Elk. It arrived perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful (not gamey as some were concerned it might be) with broccolini, potatoes and a salad with a delicious blackberry dressing. I ordered the Halibut Cheeks, something I had never tried before, which arrived with a creamy cheesy risotto and balsamic reduction. The Halibut Cheeks were so unexpectedly delicious and I appreciated that the chef used a simple preparation to allow this ingredient to be the star of the plate. The portions were generous on all of our plates and everyone was able to sample the other meals and not a bit went to waste. We splurged and decided to order dessert, the dark chocolate coconut cheesecake was delicious. So nicely light after our delicious meal. The restaurant has a nice vibe and seating is comfortable. It was nice to be able to have a conversation with our party and not have to try to talk over the table next to us. Kinley's is at the top of the list of places to eat when we return to Anchorage to visit our family. read more

Kinley's Restaurant & Bar is one of Anchorage's most underrated places in town. It is a secret treasure. Quiet, delicious, happy hour specials, and has an actual parking lot, this place can surpass most downtown options. Kinley's is perfect for a date with the quiet, intimate atmosphere to actually hear each other, wonderful for a girls night with fantastic appetizers and an endless drink list, and a huge bar for the boys to go hang. Professionals can go and not worry about running into the 20-something screaming crowd, and enjoy a more upscale environment, and not have to drive across town. This is also a great alternative to Moose's Tooth next door; however, the taste is not even in the same category. I would put this place in the same caliber as the Brewhouse and Orsos, maybe just below Jen's since there is some pub like feeling with the large bar and burgers on the menu. You can come here and be casual or dressy, either would be acceptable. I have never come here and been disappointed, again, a hidden treasure of Anchorage. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I came here because I wanted something quick before a movie and didn't want to slog through the tourist masses (not that there's anything wrong with that) at Moose's Tooth. This place looked kinda fancy (it is, for Anchorage) when I first walked in...like it wouldn't even have a bar and I'd be sitting at a table-clothed table all by my lonesome but...I confidently walked deeper into the restaurant and...found a bar in the back! Service was snappy, tap list was small but the tap selection was EXCELLENT. Who, other than Humpy's, has a DOUBLE IPA consistently on tap? And from Two Beers in Seattle, no less! I was hungry but not hangry so I just got an appetizer, I chose the Ahi Tacos. I choose wisely. Extremely high quality rare Ahi and the tacos were a very original take. Lots of greens and served in uniquely-shaped hard taco shells. Sounds odd, but it really worked. Who knew there was any taco-shaped box to think outside of? Not me till I came here! One regret I have, that I'll try to help you with: AHI TACOS ARE FOUR DOLLARS CHEAPER from 4pm-6pm! I think I got here at like 6:08, bummer. Maybe next time! Actually, no. Next time I will get a full-fledged menu item, cannot wait to see what the rest of the menu tastes like. I am very close to saying something rash like "best food in Anchorage", but I cannot do that until I sample the main menu. This place could easily "phone-it-in", being located so close to what is arguably the most popular place to eat in Anchorage. Just feast off Moose's Tooth's tasty touristy scraps! I've avoided Kinley's for 6 years. I thought they were just some handily located restaurant that handled the overspill from Mooses' Tooth. And because of that, they didn't necessarily need to be any good. Tonight, i wanted to go somewhere different than my usual haunts, so I'm browsing Yelp, and Kinley's pops up. I check their menu on their website, and there's a few tempting little entries that I'm pretty sure that even me - picky as I am, will enjoy. I even make a reservation. That's the first time I've ever made a reservation in Anchorage. If we go somewhere that a reservation is required, it's because we're celebrating some special occasion. I basically was just making sure I'd get a table. I was also encouraged by fellow Elite, Andrew H's review. I trust his judgment. We get there 5 minutes late - which makes me anxious, on top of hungry = hangry. Not my fault. Blake decides he has time for an errand on the way. Anyway, they were fine that we were late. I order ginger beer, Blake gets a root beer. It was lovely fiery ginger beer. With a lovely kick, kind of like Cock N Bull. Not alcoholic though. We are brought a bread basket. One small thing I'd like to see? Butter please. I do like olive oil on bread, but i prefer butter, and i didn't want to ask, which I'm presuming they would have brought some, had I asked. I think if they asked when they brought the bread to you, that would be very nice. We order the Baked Brie appetizer, ($12) and it's a fairly big plate, it has a triangular chunk of Brie enclosed in flaky pastry, some greens, grapes, balsamic reduction, and garlic aioli. It was sumptuous. The Brie was gooey and oozy, and we spread it on our bread. The fig was inside the parcel i think but i could definitely taste it. Thoroughly recommend this dish to a cheese lover. And if you're not too hungry, and are eating alone, this and the bread would fill you. For my entree, I selected the Flank Steak (medium) which comes with loaded mashed taters, cole slaw, grilled green onion, and Roasted New Mexico Chili Gravy. ($26) It was a big plate, there was a decent sized chunk of lovely meat. Now, I'm picky about steak and usually only eat filet mignon. I hate fat. But this was bomb. Super juicy and flavoursome, tender yet chewy, and the chili gravy was the perfect sauce to enhance it. The cole slaw was an unusual and different take - red cabbage and red and yellow peppers, really nice and refreshing, but i can't eat much bell pepper, or I'm tasting it all night. And, now, the star of the show! The buttery mash! Oh my goodness, they have mastered the art of good mashed potato. It really didn't need to be fully loaded tbh, and i didn't eat all of the topping, because it was perfect by itself. Blake got the Bratwurst, cooked in Pale Ale, Grilled, Sauerkraut, Mashed Potoatoes, Vegetables, with Demi glacé and whole gain mustard. It looked gorgeous, and he expressed delight, and even offered me a bite of his Brat, but i cared not to stuff myself more than i could fit in. He said his vegetables were the perfect level of tender crisp. He hates overcooked vegetables. The mustard was awesome, with little seeds, that popped kind of like boba. And that awesome mash!! ($20) And then, because I normally love banana desserts without exception, we ordered the banana coconut mousse creme brulee. ($9 And unfortunately i did not really enjoy this, basically because i was expecting a creme brulee, and this is more of a mousse, with a sugar crust, and it's that sugar crust, that is the nod to creme brulee. I feel that creme brulee's beauty lies in it's creamy, silky, unctuous texture. The banana entirely took that away I'm afraid and made it a lurid yellow colour, and altered the texture, making it very definitely a mousse, which I wasn't expecting. Personally for me, and this is just my humble opinion, and I'm not a chef, I think that the integrity of the creme brulee should have been left as is, and banana introduced into the dish in another way, such as oh, maybe slices, across the plate, where the couli was, or maybe arranged on top of the sugar crust, but for me, I'm sorry, it didn't work in the body of the brulee itself. But I'm a purist and I make amazing creme brûlée. I've not penalized Kinley's by giving them a lower star-rating, because I'd go back in a heartbeat, I'm not really a dessert person, and would happily eat appetizer/entree, as opposed to entree/dessert, any day of the week. Service was impeccable, and I don't think the prices were overly expensive either for the amount and quality of food and service, we also had a lovely window table with a great view. Upon proofreading my review, it seems like I'm being picky, yet I fully believe Kinley's deserve the 5 stars I've given them, I'm just being honest, and I did love my experience here, and will definitely return. read more
