I have been coming to Hiromi for years and have nothing but good things to say. I have thick,thick hair and it can easily be huge and bushy yet somehow Hiromi is always able to tame my wild hair with an amazing cut. The shape, texture and layers are always great. If I go in not really knowing what I want, Hiromi gives fantastic suggestions and let's me know what will and won't work for me and my hair texture. Hiromi is fantastic at helping me continue to hide my ever increasing grey hair with highlights. She knows I am not huge into maintenance and gives me color that will work with the amount of effort I want to put into my hair. And my absolute favorite part of this whole salon experience... the hands-down best hair wash/scalp massage ever. Truly. I would come here for that alone. Good for men, horrible for women. Yoshi did a great job on my boyfriend's hair, but mine by the owner was a disaster. I lived in Tokyo for over a year and found several great Japanese stylists in Seattle and boston with the same price ($60 for long hair/women, $50 for men). Time to give it a try in the Bay Area. I found great reviews of this salon so didn't hesitate to pay them a visit... The salon looked surprisingly old fashion. It's totally fine if they could offer awesome experience. However, it was quite disappointing. Straight to the end result - my hair wasn't even done, seriously. One part was out from the other (check my photo), and it was like only a rough cut. Yes, the old lady only spent a short amount of time to cut and then started drying and curling my hair. I feel so relieved that I didn't go for coloring that I originally planned so. read more

I went to the shop with my roommate and really didn't intend to do much to my hair, but my roommate convinced to do it. I was scared because as a half black woman my hair can be difficult for people who don't have practice with it. So I decided to get a cut as my split ends were out of control. They washed my hair and began to blow dry it. I have really thick hair and before I was done I had three of the stylists working on my hair. They didn't complain and treated me like a queen for the day. Once my hair was finished being straightened Yoshi cut my hair to beautiful perfection and curled my bangs. I felt so welcomed and such like family it warmed my heart. I was able to practice Japanese and received a lot of praise for my good intonation. I will definitely be going back there again. I've been going to Hiromi on and off for the past 5 years, and I regret it everytime I cheat on her with another stylist. She has the best precision in her haircuts, and she does my color so well it's ridiculous. All of the stylists are all from Japan, and I believe were schooled there as well. They have certain services that are exclusive to Japan, which makes it a little pricey. Is it a lot of money to go here? YES, but I have to say I can get away with not going to them for the next four months and my hair will still look fine. I've been to cheaper people over the years, and they have screwed up my hair royally. Hiromi's style caters more to the young and funky, but anyone that you see there will do a great job. The salon does this great technique in washing hair where they give you a thorough head and neck massage at the same time. It's so good to be able to take nap while someone is washing your hair. They are the only stylists that I know that make it a point to make sure you are comfortable and satisfied. They do not let you leave unless they've done a great job on your hair. They are completely honest if they think a style does not work for you, but will do whatever they can to adjust the style to your face. I am completely satisfied with my new haircut and feel so great about the way I look. read more

The service I receive from Yoshi who cuts my hair is awesome. He is the first hair stylist who knows how to deal with the cowlicks all over my head. The cut is always impeccable! Recently they have transformed the salon to meet high standards for COVID issues. Recently Kinuko gave me the most amazing facial. So relaxing and my skin is glowing. First time experience was fun and great. Had a difficult hair style request that Kuniko was able to make happen. From long straight hair to short faded -mohawk, I really like the results. The salon staff were very friendly and accommodating, had relaxing blues music in the back ground so you're comfortable. Yoshi did my bridal updo trial. He has strategic approach to cover all your flaws and maximize your strength. I basically told him 5 things I wanted covered/gone and also what my fiancé wants which is really specific: bulky rolls in the back, hair clear from face, volume in back etc. some of what he wanted didn't go with what my face could tolerate (like exposing all if my forehead which makes my face look even longer than it already is). He went from there, also noticed my hairline at corners were thin so brought down bang just enough to add volume there but not creating 'bangs' --- I am not one to know exactly what I want them to do, but rather have the look I want or don't want to have. Yoshi took in all my various factors and produced a masterpiece. Even if my updo is not what you like, his skills are superb, and his eye is to look at each person and go from there, so I highly recommend him. read more

I have been getting my hair cut by Hiromi for a little less than 10 years and there is a reason I keep coming back. Her attention to detail is amazing and she always does an amazing job. It is difficult for me to find a good hair dresser because I am half black and have very curly hair, but Hiromi is still able to cut it perfectly. I always just tell her what length I want it and trust her to do the rest. Even now, I am currently living in Orange County for school, I still try make sure to schedule an appointment when I am in town because I am that satisfied with my haircuts. read more

Okay - I've been going here for years. I usually see Yoshi or Hiromi and they do a decent job with my hair. But this is where the 5 star review comes in: - Picture me at home with all my long hair in terrible need of a dye job due to my roots looking like the 880 freeway. - Picture me also trying to decide if I want to spend $200. - Picture me further sitting on my couch studying for finals, stressing about the freeway of roots, particularly since I was leaving for a family wedding the day after my last project was turned in. - Now picture me sending a boy to Walgreen's in search of hair dye since I'm too busy to run my own damned errand You getting the picture? So, here I am with almost purple hair (instead of sassy red), since boy decides it's time for me to switch up the color for something more "auburn" (which apparently meant eggplant purple). Not only that, but only one box of hair dye also means splotchy, uneven coloring. Now picture me running into the hair salon in tears and having to show everyone what the f**k I just did to my hair. Not a pretty sight. Not only that, but I had to leave the next day for said family wedding. God bless Hiromi who cleared her schedule and rearranged her clients the next morning to cut, color and style my hair for the wedding. I had so many compliments on my hair color. Girl did me some justice! And, in fact, everytime she does my color I get a ton of resounding compliments. So, good folks, good hair, nice wedding. I've been going to Hiromi for years and have referred other people there too without hesitation. It can take me up to an hour to get there when traffic is heavy, but it is SO worth the time and effort. Prices aren't any more (and sometimes less) than what you would pay in a salon in the City, and results are always spectacular - makes me wish I had a photo shoot immediately after. And no matter what cut I get, it grows out so well - I can go months without another cut or highlights (and have done so, since I have four kids). Kinuko is her sister-in-law, who owns the salon, and Yoshi is the other stylist, and you can't go wrong with any of them. Hiromi gave my youngest daughter her first haircut as a gift, and you've never seen a 1-year-old with a more chic hairstyle. Oh, and to top it off, the great shampoo comes with a head and neck massage so spectacular that it's not going to matter what they do to your hair - you'll feel so relaxed you won't care. read more

I decided to come here after reading the reviews on Yelp and because it came highly recomended by a friend. I came here on two separate occasions, the first to cut my hair for the first time in 26 years (it was past my ass) ...and the second to get even a drastic cut above my shoulders. I have had my hair cut by Kinuko and also her brother Yoshi...They are both Awesome...they starts by washing your hair and massaging your scalp...soooooo good that you may just fall asleep while they are doing it. They both deliverd the exact style I requested and did it with such passion...They both work so intensely you can tell they mean buisness!! I usually just get a cut...since I dont dye or perm my hair...Both haircuts ran me $60 which in my opinion was very well worth it. Just had my very fine, thin, wispy gray hair trimmed and colored by Kinuko. What a joy, She really listened to what I wanted. This definitely is a five star place. My hair breaks easily and therefore is very hard to grow. So I cherish all the length I can get out of it. In addition to a root cover-up, I wanted a small trimming to give my hair more body and to cut off split ends. In the past other stylists have wacked off inches when I've asked for this. And I was really concerned this would happen again. I needn't have worried. Kinuko did a beautiful job restoring the quality of my hair, cutting it just right, and giving my hair a very youthful and natural looking over-all blended blond shade which I just love. I have been going there since 2006 (8 years.) And this is the only place I go to now. Hiromi remembers everything we have chatted about. I was away for almost two years aboard. I didn't even need to remind her how I don't like to do prep work on my hair everyday. (eg: blow drying or styling) So she just cut my hair to a style which I shows her the picture and I let it dry naturally everyday and the hair just falls into place just like the pictures I've shown her. I've recommended a few of my friends to go there. And they love it. I only need to get my haircut twice a year. So the price for cutting here makes it worth it and even out compared to another place. Even after letting it go the shape/ style is still there. I think they have some secret Japanese cutting techniques. And they give free bangs/ fringe trim if you need to. read more

She couldn't fit me in until yesterday afternoon, but I'm glad I waited. Why is Hiromi so awesome? I'll list a few of the ways: 1. The appointment started on time. 2. She actually discussed in detail what I wanted before picking up the scissors. 3. The wash and massage. She must have taken 15 minutes just to wash my hair and massage my neck. I was scheduled for a Karotin treatment with Hiromi-san, but when I came in she instantly knew that I needed some serious help. I showed her the picture of what I had intended to do at the trendy salon and she fixed my hair so that it now looks presentable and will eventually grow out to be like what I wanted. Hiromi has been cutting and styling my hair from day one and i can say i absolutely love her. Her shampooing is heavenly and i fall asleep every time, without fail. She is a perfectionist and will constantly check to make sure your cut is even and will check in periodically to make sure you're happy.
