There was only like 3 other tables considering how close it was to close (sorry again). Phoebe, our server, was kind and quick. The food runner as well was super helpful. All the food was amazing, the Naruto roll was a cucumber wrapped roll with fresh fish & ponzu sauce. Delish and fresh! First time trying Kinya. Nice, airy casual space. Friendly staff. Extensive menu doing sushi and yakatori though I came for the ramen. Full disclosure, I'm quite biased as a former owner of Crane Ramen where everything was made from scratch. Have been craving local ramen for a long time, no offense Dragonfly. Was excited to see Okonomiyaki on the menu. Ordered pork gyoz, pork buns and oko as well as tonkatsu ramen. Service was quick and attentive. Buns came out hot abd fresh, but nothing special-thin pork slice, not much flavor. I expect a burst with buns. Gyoza were pan seared properly and tasty but clearly not made in-house. Dipping sauce was on the sweet side, fwiw. Oko was flavorful, heavy on the mayo but that's a matter of taste. Seem pre-made unless preparing with a ring. Still, a nice option. Tonkatsu is my test for most ramen places. If they ace it it's typically a good sign, not the easiest to nail. Ramen bowl came out timely with appetizers and was piping hot as it should be. Broth was one dimensional, but nice flavor, but not much going on. Ingredients were on the short side and the pork was on the tough side and lacking richness expected. Lacked the richness a tonk should have. But otherwise enjoyable. Esp with the lack of options in town I was pleased while j Keeping a low bar of expectation. Clearly not using Sun Noodles. Pricing was high for the food quality, but post-covid fairly standard. Left feeling full, mostly satisfied, and willing to come back when craving ramen. Still a generous B-/C+. Nowhere near grest ramen. Seems like a very family-friendly place with lots if menu options to satisfy many palletes. Plenty of seating and easy to navigate, as an ada customer really appreciated that. read more

Nice atmosphere - casual, clean and lots of space. The food was so-so. Nothing special. I don't feel the need to go back. We got soup, wings, salad, and sushi. We had an apparently novice waitress who couldn't answer our questions about menu items. We asked if the noodles were rice or wheat noodles, and what was the difference between the noodle types named on the menu. She just said she wasn't sure -- we then had to prompt her to "please find out from someone else" so she could tell us. Same when asking about other menu items. It just seemed a struggle. She didn't have initiative and may have just been in need of training. Similarly she asked if we would Need small sharing plates for the apps and we said yes. Then the apps came but no plates and we waited then had to ask and wait again for them. It wasn't busy and there were plenty of staff. I'd say they have operational issues to sort out. Excited to see a ramen restaurant open in Gainesville. First visit and I enjoyed the ramen. I ordered the Kinya ramen. Broth was tasty. Noodles perfectly cooked. The shrimp tempura appetizer was disappointing. The batter was heavy. Tempura can be so much better. It's not served with traditional tempura dipping sauce. Service was prompt and friendly. I WOULD NOT recommend coming here. I thought they have high reviews and the atmosphere/service is friendly, but it is NOT good. The pork bun we ordered was overly sauced. All you could taste is the sauce and nothing else. The Okonomiyaki is kinda the best from the entire order. The takoyaki is alright. Only one small piece of octopus and all batter. The ramen broth lack flavor and pork has good char, but noflavor. The sushi was DISAPPOINTING. The texture of the sushi is rubbery, dry, and fishy. The yellowtail was extra fishy! The manager told the waitress that they get fresh sushi every 2 days, but it's tasted super bad. We ate half of what we ordered and she ended up giving us 10% off from every sushi we ordered, even tho we didn't eat HALF of the sushi. I usually will eat all of the sushi even if it's not that good, but NOT this one. Also, their "Kinya Roll" is the worse. There's salmon, tuna, tobiko, tempura shrimp, avocados, and two different sauces is too much going on. Just horrible. I love the waitress, she's super nice and friendly. Came in to a half-full restaurant and was told there would be a five to ten minute wait. We were four and stayed in the very narrow waiting space but we're kind of blocking the entrance when others came in. Was seated seven minutes later despite no customers leaving. I started to think maybe they were just short staffed. Was seated and waited about five minutes to have our waitress come over to get our drink order. Drinks came quickly. We had to wait another seven minutes before the waitress came back to get our food order. We ordered their self-named sushi roll, a ramen bowl, pork belly skewers and a few other sushi rolls. Things did come out staggering - first the ramen and pork belly skewers. Then one sushi roll. Then another ten minutes later. At this time we are going on one hour and forty five minutes from when we entered to still waiting on our other two sushi rolls. We were told there was only one sushi chef and given many apologies. We decided to just pay for what we got and leave. Saddened and still hungry. But almost two hours and still waiting just wasn't satisfactory. Food: Pork belly - very tiny pieces with a green sauce that was too overwhelming. I scraped it off and they tasted much better. Ramen - good but very salty Sushi roll with mango - good but not great I'm not sure if we will return since nothing we had was spectacular and since the service was mediocre. read more

service/ambiance: continuously busy vibe, quick service & well thematically decorated--with japanese trinkets & anime art throughout the restaurant! also, good amount of parking in front of the restaurant & plenty of seating throughout i ordered the ramen combo which comes with an appetizer of choice with any ramen; in my case, i got the soy garlic wings which were pretty flavorful; my only complaint would be that some of the chicken pieces were dry. for the ramen, i had the miso ramen & tonkotsu ramen. the miso ramen's broth was quite salty --almost unforgiving level of salty. aside from that, the noodles were a good texture & the added toppings complemented the overall dish. the tonkotsu ramen's broth was a lot better-- less salty/more savory with hints of sweet which i thought was a good balance! the pork cha shu was on the drier side but it was overall, large portions, good price, good vibes :) read more

I come here once a week and enjoy the ramen. It's located within the Publix plaza and parking is great if you go before the evening fitness crowd shows up. There's one of these Orange Theory fitness places and the lot can get a little full in the evenings, but overall, good location and is easy to find. (+1 star) Inside the establishment, it appears to be the usually casual Japanese restaurant with several tables and a small ramen/sushi bar to sit at. It's nice to see the place gaining traction because it's getting pretty packed during dinner rushes. The restaurant is clean, and inviting, and the staff is friendly and professional. (+1 star) The menu is comprised of ramen, sushi/sashimi, a variety of appetizers/sides, and beer/sake. You can get edamame, takoyaki, yakitori, gyoza, etc. If you're still living by 2021 before all the crazy inflation, the menu is a little pricey but seems to be in line with today's prices. You can a la carte on a budget or go big with all the add-ons. (+1 star) I've spent many years in Japan and had the pleasure of sampling ramen in its most original form. I can tell you this place is very similar minus one caveat. The broth is VERY good. If you're a fan of the Tonkotsu pork flavors, you can't go wrong with this place. The pork chashu and marinated egg is wonderful along with the added garnishments. The black garlic isn't too overpowering and if you get the special Kinya ramen, they include a sheet of 24k gold to the bowl. I imagine so you can s**t gold lol. The only thing that seems to be off from the authentic stuff is the noodles. I just wish they had the straight noodles and not the curly ones, or perhaps offered a choice, (+1 star) Been there, tried it, and will come back! read more

5 star for the ramen -Happy to find great ramen in town (tried Kinya and Tonkatsu) reminds me of Ichiran in NY -Pork belly skewer is good and their brown sugar milk tea. -Didn't try the sushi -Poke bowl was OK per husband -Can take a while on busy weekend nights -Service is straight forward not the chatty kind but we're there to eat not to chat so it doesn't bother me but some servers frequently forget or put in wrong order I'm usually understanding but it's annoying. -The anime photo wall is fun reminds me of all the anime shows we use to watch as kids. Went on a date here towards the end of the day, I've been watching this place as it's nearing opening so I've been excited to check it out. The interior is brightly lit and fairly open. This makes for a fun casual environment but lacks intimacy or privacy in full. Not a bad thing inherently but something to be aware of. The decor is fun with stuff to look at, it's just not all that romantic. Our waiter was pleasant but definitely stretched thin, it was evident he was doing the best that he could but he had a lot of tables initially when we were seated. We weren't feeling ramen although I will definitely be back to try it. Instead, we went with Kinya's Sushi menu--ordering the Tuna Maniac, Lava Roll, and Trinity rolls. Each was exceptionally tasty with the Tuna Maniac being the best IMO. Good place, hopefully it can stick around and they are able to hire some additional staff! read more

I want to love Kinya! It's so close to my house and when I heard they were opening I thought all my Ramen and craft cocktail dreams were coming true. However, the last three times I was there they did not have wine and I doubt they have the cocktails in the pictures provided by the owner on this page The food is solid, although the gold is unnecessary, but the ambience is lacking. It's far too bright and music would be a nice touch. It just looked kind of messy as the past few times I've been there there's boxes all around the bar and it just doesn't look like the proper care has been taken. Not really sure why the reviews are as high as they are. Ramen just was okay. Been trying to find a replacement for the original Crane and this is not it. Chicken seemed like it was sliced off a deli block of meat. I want to see shredded chunks that were taken off the bone after making the broth. The atmosphere is great! I personally am a big fan of One Piece so seeing all the decorations and wanted posters up was awesome. The staff was really friendly and had no issues with the service. The only issue I had with it was that the pork slices were kind of tough, but the broth, noodles, mushrooms, fish cakes, and egg included tasted really good (A lot of ramen places make their broth way too salty, so having good broth in ramen is nice for a change). read more
