Not the absolute best in Orange County, nothing fancy, just solid. I would put the food around a 4 out of 5 on its own. The overall experience still lands at five for us. My kids' favorite dishes are the steamed fish and the clams. Those two are the reason they ask to come back. Steamed fish that actually tastes clean and careful, clams that feel like a treat without being precious about it. That is the lane Classic Chinese lives in. Familiar flavors, generous plates, the kind of Chinese restaurant where you already know what you are ordering before you sit down. Service is above average for a Chinese place, which matters more than people admit when you have kids and a big table. They keep things moving without making the meal feel rushed. There wasn't any dish that disappointed. I will happily return to Hai Master Kitchen to try their other food and I'll definitely order takeout at some point. I can barely respond in time until he speaks again or asks the question over. I asked him to slow down when picking up an order today. He said okay, but kept speaking at rapid machine gun rate. Here's the problem: He makes the customer feel rushed when there is no need. As a result, the customer interaction becomes unpleasant and even somewhat disrespectful. I know that's not his intention, but I can tell you that I would prefer to speak to another person if that option is available. I was picking up at an order around 11:30 am on Wednesday morning and there was only one another customer who was waiting for her pickup order. The restaurant was empty. This is a very traditional way of preparing and serving these meats, although customers who are unfamiliar with this style may find it inconvenient. The food here tastes authentic, and in my opinion, Frank's BBQ is one of the best traditional Chinese barbecue restaurants in Orange County. It may not match everyone's personal preferences, but I think it is important to understand the culture and preparation style before unfairly criticizing the restaurant or calling the food bad.
