Craving some udon while we were passing through the area so we decided to stop here for a quick early dinner on a weekend. It was quiet and service was quick. Set up like a Chipotle and Subway. You order your main dish and you move along to customize it by adding tempuras (extra fee), vegetables (extra fee), green onions, or tempura flakes. The udon soup base and noodles was good. The tempura batter on my shrimp tempuras was too thick and not light and flaky. I wanted to add vegetables to my udon and wish they were cooked first or cooked with my soup. Dumping uncooked vegetables into my soup just cooled everything down right away. There was a lot of seating inside and on their large outdoor patio. The place was very clean.

I love this local udon spot! So glad it opened up locally. Love the #1 Nikutama udon with beef a poached egg in a dashi broth. Love the premium tendon tempura with rice bowl. We also love the new bolognese udon noodles. The line moved fast. Parking is plentiful. Staff is okay depends on the day--service getting better each time we go. Never had an issue with finding a table to sit. Love the Al La Carte choices: zucchini tempura, potatoe crochette, fried dumplings.

I happened to be in the area on Monday, supporting my sissy at her MD appt, so when hunger struck, I suggested we stop by Marugame. Marugame Udon is one of those places I keep coming back to--and for good reason. No matter how many new spots I try, this is HANDS DOWN still my go-to when I'm craving something warm, soupy/noods, comforting, and genuinely satisfying. There's just something about watching the noodles being made fresh right in front of you that sets the tone. You know you're about to be in for a treat and get a good meal. The udon is always perfectly chewy, the broth is rich without being too heavy, and everything just hits the spot every time. This Aliso Viejo location is spacious, bright and clean & the service is consistent. I opt'd for the creamy broth udon again (I know..I'm a creature of habit), as it's always my favorite. That creamy chicken broth, topped with juicy pork chashu, and a flavorful seasoned egg is just sooo yums! Add some chili oil and flakes and BAM..heaven. Whether I'm super hungry or just need a quick pick-me-up, Marugame never disappoints.

Food was fresh, you can see them making noodles fresh. Broth was good I opted for the tonkotsu broth

I found you Marugame Udon! I have seen multiple locations in OC but this was my first experience. I was exploring some of the newer restaurants and business in the Aliso plaza and had my heart set on Coco Curry house but Marugame just felt right. After a hard exhausting week what better way to treat myself than a warm bowl of noodles. It's like a warm huge but not your typical pho or ramen options. I want Udon! It's that feel when you found exactly what you were looking for like Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. The best part is this is Aliso Viejo so there wasn't crazy parking or lines. I was a little overwhelmed with the options. I wanted to go full big back and try everything on the menu. Instead I thought about keeping my gains so I ordered just one item, the tomato beef and it didn't disappoint. I savored the broth and slurped the noodles and it was just the right amount of food without being overly filling. I would probably order more if I was super hungry. This simple dish made me a fan of Marugame. I will be back to try my soup with more customization and toppings. I didn't do my research I advanced so I will definitely check out my Yelp buddies creations and photos before my next visit. I highly recommend.

Good pricing and great flavors, avoid doordash ordering if you plan to come in for dine in or pickup since they overcharge per item before anything else. Quick processes to build your bowl so ordering goes pretty fast too. Perfect place for a quick bite before shopping next door at 99 Ranch.

It was a cold cloudy day in the OC and udon was a must. They recently opened more Marugame in South County. I ordered the number #3 Beef with soft poached egg with green onions & tempura bits. The tempura bar was fun to explore with many options from veggies to meat. I opted for a shrimp tempura, pumpkin and chicken thigh (dark meat). The udon was so lovely and warm. The beef was nicely seasoned with the egg. The udon noodles were nice and chewy. The pumpkin was so creamy and not too sweet. The chicken was great add for crispy crunch. This was a fun lunch spot with quick service and tons of seating options indoor/out.

I love the beef and my husband likes the Tonkotsu. My foodie babies enjoy eating here as well. Be careful, the tempura is so delicious but it definitely add up. I tried their Calamanci juice and it was great! Service is always quick and the store is kept clean.

Marugame is continuing to expand and now has another location in South OC in the Aliso Viejo area. This spot is located in the same plaza as the 99 Ranch Market where there is a good amount of parking spots. They have a solid amount of seating options, both indoors and outdoors. Wifey and I stopped for lunch on some empty stomachs. You order up at the front and then you can take your food to whatever seat is open. I ended up getting the Beef Tomatama and wifey got the Nikutama. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and left with full and satisfied stomachs. Portions are generous and the flavors are on point. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back for another meal next time we are nearby!

Dont be discouraged by the long lines. It moves quickly and is worth it. Seating available inside and outdoors. The creamy broth is my go-to. Lots of flavor, Chewy soft udon noodles and the char shu has both the salty slightly-sweet flavor. Jammy eggs cooked to perfection. The chicken curry katsu over rice was a hit with my teen and as was the featured cheese-tomato-curry chicken katsu udon. The tempuras (egg, zucchini and shrimp) are light and crispy. We had to get a second, separate chicken katsu because it was so tasty. I recommend the calamansi drink to wash it all down. Refreshing!

Marugame Udon is my go to spot for some comforting Japanese udon. I didn't know that they opened up a location in Aliso Viejo so we went to try it out. The restaurant is located in a plaza with many other food and drink spots. They have plenty of tables both inside and outside the restaurant. I got my usual nikutama udon bowl, I go back and forth between this one and the curry nikutama. I also always get the tamagoyaki, but this time I tried the sweet potato tempura too. Everything was so delicious and comforting, especially since it's been cold lately.

    Vivian P.

This is counter service. They are really quick! I wish the tempura was made to order so it would be hot and crispy, the heating lamps can only do so much. I felt like this place was ok- it's a cheap meal but I wasn't WOW'd.

    Hailey F.

Marugame Udon is like the Chipotle of udon. I don't mean that in a bad way; you can get quality udon and other noodles without a long wait. They have plenty of seating both inside and outside. This location felt very clean and brand new. My husband got the tempura udon and I got the katsu curry.Udon was excellent, but the curry wasn't the best. I do appreciate that they have something other than just noodles tho.

Chicken Katsu Teriyaki with tempura flakes, Pumpkin Tempura, Seasoned Egg (1/2)- all so good!

It's recommended to get 1 portion and order more as you go since it'll be fresh and not soggy. I tried their recommended dipping so as, the beef and the duck. Both of them had amazing flavors that made me keep wanting more! The soba was nice and chewy with the perfect al dente texture, and it paired perfectly well with the dipping sauce. Also tried the shrimp tempura soba and was pleased with the portion they provided. The tempura itself was also nicely coated, not too heavy on the crumbs. The staff there were all very friendly, and helped guide the menu since it was my first time. Amazing service and great food. Definitely a must try if you're in the area!

I don't think many restaurants offers cold soba option so if you never tried it, here is the probably the best place in south OC to give it a shot. This restaurant is located in a large plaza so there are plenty parking. The wait is usually not long at all. I have been here a few times with my family during lunch and dinner and it is never that packed. I think it is located in a pretty secluded area so it is not busy but the food is very good. The decor is simple but clean and has many tables. This most recent visit I ordered the marinated beef hot udon and my daughter ordered the Kakiage cold udon. I didn't know what Kakiage is so the staff kindly educated me that it is a ball of Tempura vegetables. Please don't mix it up with Karaage which is Fried Chicken. They are two different dishes. The broth of my beef udon is deep with umami flavor. The soup base has a legit dashi flavor, not the instant udon flavor. You can tell the difference right away. We also ordered the grill squid. The grill squid is tender and has a unique tastes like the dried squid snacks that I get from the Japanese market. The staff even offered hot water for my daughter's left over dipping sauce. She mixed her dipping sauce with hot water to drink it as a soup. Overall the food is great and we'll definitely be back for more.

I liked that it wasn't too crunchy like some rolls are. It is surgical in its layers of crunch. Another roll I liked was the dragon roll. The rolls are on the larger side which is good but they match the price. The Tonkotsu ramen was pretty bland so I recommend adding some spice or sauce to spruce up the broth but the ingredients were all tasty. Overall it's a decent place to get sushi. They're big, made fresh, and my daughter can easily eat three of them. The restaurant gets very busy and packed, especially during dinner, so expect a wait. The Dan Dan noodles are my husband's favorite, and I really like that they can make them non-spicy, which is a great option for my daughter. For soup, we prefer the big wonton soup over the small wonton soup because it comes with seaweed. The broccoli, however, could definitely be cooked a little longer--it's too hard for our liking. The service is basically nonexistent. You're expected to order from your phone and pay upfront, so don't come expecting much table service. One thing that really bothers me is the water service and sanitation. Instead of emptying and properly cleaning the water jars, they appear to simply refill them with more water and give them to the next customer. Knowing how messy kids' hands can get, this just doesn't sit well with me. I think the sanitation could definitely be improved. Overall, the food has several things we really enjoy, especially the green onion pancake, Xiao Long Bao, and Dan Dan noodles. But the lack of service and some sanitation concerns keep it from being a perfect experience. The 3 starts is so they can look at it and fix the sanitation issue.
