Visiting Hinton and looking for brunch on a Saturday morning, Kirk's was close by, on the river and had nice reviews. Bad move. We arrived at 10:56 AM. I was in the mood for some Biscuits & Gravy. We were informed they were out of that and were not making more. So I decided on Eggs over easy, Country Ham, Wheat toast and Grits. Then, because I don't find them often, I ordered Fried Green Tomatoes. My wife ordered the Breakfast Special with Eggs, Hash Browns, Sausage and Fried Apples. I also got a bottle of Apple Juice and water and my wife got Coffee. We sat down, enjoying the view and talking. And talked. And talked. Finally after 50 minutes our food came. It had obviously been sitting since all the food was cold. Had we not waited so long, we would have asked for a refund and left. And on top of that, the waitress forgot my Grits. She went back to get my Grits and came back 10 minutes later with hot Grits, but after I had finished the rest of my meal. Now this is a place that requires the payment and asks for a tip when you place the order, then food is brought out to you. I entered a 15% tip and would have also added more if service was good. Ok so in the future I will opt out of tip in advance. I know staffing is low in many places but that is no excuse for cold food and spotty service. The only reason for two stars is for the great views on screened in patio by the river. But we will not be back at Kirk's. read more

Marginal quality food, average service but you can't beat the views. We stopped here after reading rave reviews...which unfortunately wasn't our experience. And while I can't and won't give a low rating for a 1st time visit, I will say that you get what you pay for. Menu is mostly fried foods, burgers seem to be their specialty so that's what we got. The burger was mediocre at best. Similar to what you'd get out of the frozen foods isle at a grocery store. Ditto with the fries. Service was friendly enough, place was clean and is a great spot along the river. read more

What a nice place overlooking the Greenbrier River in Hinton. The food was delicious Fried Pollock, green beans, baked potato, and hush puppies. Very crisp and not greasy. The staff was very kind and helpful. Great prices! I would recommend you checking this restaurant out. read more

This is an order at the counter and they will bring you the food place. The patio over the river is nice. The view is great... We ordered our food and sat down...1 hour later I went inside to find out about our food. Just about every table in the place has someone at it...and no one has food. I was told our food was almost ready. Another table that came in 20 minutes after us got all of their food. At 1 hour and 15 minutes we got our food. It wasn't bad...it wasn't correct...I got no hush puppies and the wife got mashed potatoes and a bake potato and not the broccoli she ordered. The server promised to bring broccoli but never came back. Maybe the whole kitchen staff quit the minute we walked in...but an hour and fifteen minutes for average food is ridiculous. read more

We are local and have visited Kirk's many times. Since the new management the food has been terrible. Fries not done, buns soggy on the sandwiches, ect. We thought we would give them another chance last week because we love the patio, it was our last trip. The wait staff were very nice but it looked like they were cooking and serving. The patio looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years. Bird droppings on the decking and banister. I know its a outdoor location but I've never seen it so dirty. The food is ok, nothing special at all. The staff was very forgetful. My friend asked for 2 hotdogs but they only gave us 1. I asked for a bacon cheeseburger and it was $1.75 more for the bacon, I got the smallest piece of bacon not even covering 1/4th of the burger. Cheese was not melted. The view is beautiful though. Great local restaurant in Hinton overlooking the river. Open Sundays and when we arrived at noon they said we could do breakfast or lunch, love the flexibility. I had a yummy club salad, and they were kind enough to go light on the lettuce. It was generously portioned with hardboiled eggs, shredded cheese, and ham as is standard. They pepped it up with the addition of sliced onions, banana peppers, and green olives. Very tasty. The Colonel had the Sunday special, roast beef with green beans, carrots, and a roll. The beef was very tender, and the carrots were "awesome." Cute placemats help orient visitors like ourselves. 10/10 would eat again! read more

The girl who served us was so sweet and friendly! She made our evening. The battered cod was good, very crispy. Green beans were a little bit bland but the mashed potatoes were amazing!! Definitely recommend. Sweet potato fries were good as well, and the server offered us honey with them. Girlfriend said hamburger steak was good, and my grandparents enjoyed the hillbilly hoagie. Views are beautiful and the girl told us there were carp in the river below, they will come out if you toss them some fries ;) Overall we had a wonderful experience for what it is. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could! I had the grilled chicken dinner with green beans and a baked potato and it was absolutely terrible. The baked potato had definitely sat under a warmer all day, the green beans were overcooked and not seasoned and the chicken was definitely frozen patties. The only good thing about Kirk's is the service - the girls who work there truly bust their rear ends and are super friendly. Don't waste your time or money, go someplace else. read more

This place has the worst customer service, i came here twice and both times my food was cold, or not good. I ordered the Char Chicken Salad and it was warm instead of cold like a salad should be. While i was waiting for my salad my family's order sat behind the counter for over 20 minutes getting cold. My family member had a order be cold as well. read more

We were there when the doors opened. No biscuits made, no sausage gravy available, no breakfast sandwiches available?! That left eggs, pancakes, or French toast to pick from. All were very mediocre. The food here is excellent! The hotdogs with everything are the best in the area! Everything is reasonably priced & the have a patio over looking the beautiful New River. However there was a young dark haired waitress that brought our food had to be on something because she walks up talking to another waitress literally screaming about how some girl died in a car wreck and she didn't give a shit. Mind you she's yelling all this while placing food in front of my family! I did not appreciate the poor manners so I said something and she just stared at me like I was crazy. I was so embarrassed. Simple town cafe. Their food is very good, and very cheap compared to "big city" places. Homemade my foot. I had a Big K Burger, jalapeño poppers, & slaw. My friend had onion rings. Close your eyes and you might as well be at Sonic. Frozen food service hamburger patties, food service slaw, food service rings and poppers. It all taste like Sysco products. It's way too expensive for the quality of the food. They do have things like fried chicken and meatloaf. Maybe it's better. If I ever come back, which I won't, I would defiantly order a dinner. Stopped by during my stay at nearby Pipestem Resort State Park. The service was very friendly and the food was excellent! All homemade and you could taste it. On top of that, the menu had more options than you could ask for. I got the Hillbilly Hoagie and slaw on the side, friend got the waffle fries and Bk Burger, which were all excellent! I stole quite a few of his fries. For dessert, they were featuring the apple cake. Awesome!!! Make sure and stop by here and enjoy their West Virginia welcome. read more

Breakfast is great with eggs, crisp bacon, crispier potatoes and biscuits and gravy (if you're early enough on a Sunday morning.) The best sandwiches! I have tried Philly Cheesesteak and BBQ Rib Sandwich and they are just amazing. I finished the whole meal in one sitting which I don't do normally. Will definitely come back since I drive within the area almost every day. read more

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a child and was very excited to take kids and husband to it when we passed through town. They have the best chili dogs I have ever had. The food did not disappoint. Chili dogs and onion rings were delicious. My son opted for French fries which were not that great. The service was great, as the staff is very friendly. The women's bathroom was pretty gross, but my son said the men's bathroom was very clean. We ate on the patio area over the water which has always been my favorite spot. Highly recommend and will definitely be back for another chili dog when we pass through! read more

Great local place for a good meal. I personally cannot go in without ordering a corn dog, they have the best in town! The balcony view overlooking the river is very nice. My children enjoy seeing ducks, fish and other wildlife. The chili and grilled cheese are to die for. In need of some updating or remodeling.
