This place is so awesome. Made so by the lady Heather! First glance there is a display in the window that is different each time I go made with Barbie's and such. They are redressed in hand made clothes and sometimes painted to fit that theme. The place is always clean and friendly. But the biggest reason to go is the magic that Heather can work on hair! I have a hair type (between wavy and curly) that is a pain to get cut or do anything with at most places since they like to treat it like it is straight. And was greeted by friendly staff, i asked if they had time to do a cut and color today... yes ... 4:15 she fit me in... Moved to Seattle pretty recently and was in dire need of a haircut. I'm very particular when it comes to my hair, usually getting it cut with scissors. I scheduled a half-hour haircut with Heather and from the get-go the service was amazing. She took the time to understand what I was looking for as a first-time customer and a half-hour later, I was in love with my haircut! My hair ended up looking like a toddler cut it and the owner refused to speak to me about it when I called and tried to talk to her about it. Asked for a refund and was told no, and I don't feel comfortable having someone from the salon touch my hair to "fix it" after this experience and the owners inability to handle the situation. I feel pretty, oh so pretty. I feel pretty and witty and briiiiiight. That's how you'll feel too if you get a partial foil at Kismet Salon. I came back to see James for a partial foil today. I get my hair colored about once or twice a year because I was worried about the potential damage from frequent coloring, so I learned a long time ago that I always need the color to blend in well over time. I came in with a couple of pictures on the type and shade of color that I wanted, and James expertly suggested a plan that would help darken and blend my existing, faded highlights with the new color. The new color I wanted to try was considerably lighter than my natural hair color, so I was a bit worried about how that would look with my skin color and also whether that would leave my hair dry and damaged. The result was great, but the cherry on top was the Olaplex treatment that James recommended. My hair feels smooth and looks super shiny like it was photoshopped out of a Pantene commercial! I almost feel like my hair was rejuvenated after the color, it's glossy and it feels healthy. If you're worried about getting your hair fried and damaged with your next daring color (or if you already have dull hair from previous color like I did), I recommend adding Olaplex treatment to your color. It's some magic shit you have to experience firsthand to believe, but it'll make you feel like you're in a Pantene commercial every day! read more

I drove 3 hours to make my hair dreams come true and OMG did they deliver. First of all, Caprica is an incredible human and so kind, not only that, but they are incredibly knowledgeable. They gave me the perfect haircut and then got to work on my custom color. Just look at the pictures I posted...this is DEFINITELY where you want to get your hair done. Kismet saved my hair! I am so happy with the results and I never want to relive the nightmare of a manhandling stylist. Backstory: I went to a different salon based on high yelp reviews (hardy harrrr ironic I KNOW) and the stylist flat-out didn't deliver. When making the appointment she said no problem she could change me from mint to pink but when I stepped through the door she said it was not possible. We agreed on purple but I NEVER expected to leave with green-blonde hair and a purple scalp.....wore hats at work for two weeks. Kismet: So I asked my stylist friend for a recommendation which led me to Heather who fixed me up today! YES. I got the pink hair I wanted, the bleaching process went smoothly, the color is spot on and she was careful and gentle with my hair. They have a great location on Broadway for getting you hair done since they have bars and coffee shops to wait in should you arrive early (just a few doors down from coffee at Vivace or cocktails at Herb & Bitter...warning, the cocktails could lead you to asking for a hair cut or color you had never imagined!) Good news is the stylists (love James) won't lead you astray. In terms of Aveda, they have a great selection of all the products. Now when I'm out of Be Curly I just have a quick 10 minute walk and this head of mine is semi tamed. Thanks for making Cp Hill better Kismet! Like art? Peaceful waiting area, attentive receptionist and clean shop. Just had my first appointment at this Aveda location. My services were performed by Cheyenne. She was lovely, good energy but also gauged the conversation well. Time to chat, time to relax. Her attention to detail was spectacular. The service didn't feel rushed and the details show through in the final product. Gentle hands, great scalp massage and technique. I felt like my requests were listened too and executed with true skill and great care. Her product knowledge was spot on as well and while we talked briefly about them there was no pressure to purchase or hard sell tactics. Overall a very chill salon with talented stylists. Just moved here about a month ago and trying to find a new waxing place is always a hassle after a move. With all the sunny days we've had recently I just wanted to make sure I was prepared for Seattle's schizophrenic weather and get my back waxed. I called ahead, since they only had an hour before closing, to make sure they'd be able to accommodate my services. Heather politely said they'd be able to help me. Bad review: I booked my first hair styling appointment in a while. I had engagement photos planned for the afternoon. I have thick hair, which always worries me when going to a salon, but it's medium length. The stylist had no idea how to work with thick hair. My hair looked AWFUL and it was a simple curl ask, not an up-do. I didn't feel pretty and I for paying ~$70 I was really, really frustrated and unfortunately didn't express my frustration in person. I was surprised however, that the stylist charged me the full amount knowing she did a terrible job. I even asked her to pin it up 60s style with bobby pins, and she couldn't do it. It looked sloppy and messy. I was so embarrassed to walk out of the salon, I was embarrassed to walk out in public with my hair, let alone get engagement photos done. So when I got home, I took out all of her bobby pins and redid the whole thing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND using this salon if you don't have straight, thin, easy-to-work-with hair. Yay! I'm a fan indeed. I've just recently moved to Seattle and in the Capitol Hill area and was looking for a salon close by to be my new "go-to" place. I called beforehand letting the receptionist know I'd be about 5 min. late, but ended up having to wait a good half hour. The receptionist assured me that the wait was not at all normal. She ended up gracefully adding a travel size shampoo for free once I checked out, which was incredibly surprising and very much appreciated. I had originally booked a basic color and trim and changed my mind to get Balayage. I didn't know Balayage took so much more time to do... But James said we'd have time to do partial. He did move quite fast due to the time crunch, and I was a bit worried at first with how quickly he was moving... But he's just had so much experience and used to work in NYC (where everything moves very quickly!), and it turned out beautifully. He was so patient when asking me what I wanted (and I had no idea each time), he explained everything in detail and showed me each time. He's also hilarious. My hair looks so much healthier, shiny, and the Balayage is perfectly even and natural (and not at all copper looking). Side note: I needed to move my car due to parking times on the street, and they had even offered the stylist assistant to go and add more money to the meter. Talk about SERVICE, PEOPLE. Maybe it's because I'm moving from NYC, but the customer service was impeccable and James is so talented and flexible. Definitely found my salon. Thanks all. read more

I booked an appointment at Kismet Salon to have my hair styled for a semi-formal holiday party and ended up with Rachel. She was a pleasure to chat with, as were all the employees (and even some clients) I interacted with. When she asked how I wanted my hair done I was that annoying, "Oh, I dunno, make it look purdy? Derrrp" person since my styling routine is to wash my stick straight hair and let it air dry. Rachel had me out of the chair in about 45 minutes with a great, retro-y half-up do that I loved. She was lightning fast and the pricing was super reasonable. The salon atmosphere was laid back, and I will consider returning for salon services other than styling. read more

Unhappy and unsatisfied customer ! I was getting my hair colored for the first time and was not sure of how coloring is done. Tisha who did my hair color was really patient and helpful in explaining what will be done and how it will be done. I really liked her. But when she colored my hair it didn't come out the way it was supposed to so I had to tell her 5-6 times that this is not what we agreed upon. She asked me to come back again the next day. Along with Tisha, her instructor/educator was there. Both Tisha and she patiently understood what I wanted and tried to explain me what is possible and what is not. I was happy that they didn't treat second timers badly. Tisha seemed upset a little but I understand that doing a job again for the same customer, some might not be happy about it. After the second time, I still didn't get the color I wanted. 1. They told me that they have given 7-8 hours for 1 customer and now nothing can be done. As if I didn't give my time and money. 2. On top it they said I was confused as to what I wanted. If they felt I was confused why didn't they clarify and then start the work. 3. The educator told me that I can come again after 3-4 weeks since I am not happy with the color this time. I can pay and get the hair color done again. How inconsiderate is it? And now the hair color is fading at a faster rate. I am doing everything they asked me to. - use color conserve shampoo and conditioner,wash hair with cold water. I do not even use blower/iron/curler on my hair and I do not even wash my hair for more than 6-7 minutes. When I called the salon they said nothing can be done may be it is my hair type and this color didnt suit me. Really!!! I paid 150 bucks for color and cut and now you are telling me !!!!! It is not even about the money but the way you treat your customers. Summary 1. If anything goes wrong, they try to put the blame on you. 2. For me, Aveda hair color faded faster than expected and they told me its my mistake. The way Tisha helped me initially and if things would have turned differently I would have given 5 stars but I am an unhappy customer who will not recommend this salon to anyone who wants to get a good job done on their hair. read more

I had been coming to Kismet for over a year - I started seeing my stylist while they were still located in Madrona. I've always received the best treatment from my particular stylist, but the overall salon experience was absolutely sub par. The staff is unfriendly, and I always received sour looks from the owner, Heather. She would never EVER say hello to me when I arrived, and she knew very well who I was. My stylist no longer works at the salon, but thankfully I am in close contact with her and will not lose my great service as far as that goes. I'm glad I won't need to return to such a cold environment. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for your Aveda product needs. read more

I recently was introduced to Kismet Salon at their Madrona location as my hair stylist joined their Aveda team. They just moved to this new location on Capitol Hill. My hair stylist Tisha and she ROCKS! Every time she manages to create a new look with color and cuts. I love that she can blend professional look with a modern cutting edge. I receive so many compliments with each new look. She is truly an artist and spends the time with you listening to your vision and magically creates a beautiful look with much attention to detail. You can easily tell she cares about each customer. The salon is an Aveda salon and carries/uses the entire Aveda line. The staff is courteous and helpful and you can tell they have a good comraderie. The selection of Aveda products is excellent. I manage to always purchase at least one product coming in...lol Pricing of their hair services is right on par. They are still adding the finishing touches to the décor and have a grand opening happening 12/6 I believe. The salon is intimate, clean and convenient. There is on street parking ( free & pay spots) but I will suggest the building across the street for parking. It is affordable $3 per hour) and makes it super easy. read more

Her understanding of color, technique and style shows her fine talent. She always makes me look great, and feel even better. I am a regular at Kismet for haircut. Rachel is my regular stylist and I booked time with her as always. I got a call that Rachel will not be available. The salon suggested an alternate - Tisha. I've asked that Rachel would share with Tisha how I get my hair done so I would get the same experience. I met Tisha and explained what haircut I wanted. Tisha suggested that she would want to try something on her own - I was open to it as long as it came out the way I like it. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT: First Tisha doesn't understand what curly hair styling is. She cut my hair so short that now they look as if I am from military crew. Also the hair in the front are long and uneven. No style or creativity and the sideburns are not even. I wish I could have waited for Rachel to be back rather than dealing with this haircut. To add insult to injury - when I finally was done with this horrible haircut, at the counter I was told that Tisha charges $10 MORE than Rachel. I was disappointed that while I spoke to the salon over the phone they never mentioned Tisha charges $10 extra. I will go back to the salon only if I get to see Rachel again - else good bye to this place. read more

My favorite hair stylist moved to a salon in Redmond and since I don't own a car have decided it's too difficult and expensive to make the trip.Tisha cut my hair on my first visit to Kismet. I have difficult hair that it curly, straight, and wavy. She listened to me and gave me what I wanted. What more can I ask. I don't color my hair so can't talk about that. At first I wasn't sure about the cut, I get nervous with change, but have received so many compliments have decided that Tisha knows more than I about hair. Disclaimer: I never review places but I'd like to warn anyone as I found this salon on Groupon and they had great reviews. The salon itself is very nice and the receptionists were nice so I'd give them five stars but my stylist did not do anything I asked. I asked for about an inch off the bottom with layers, very specific due to my face shape. He took 3-4 inches off with no layers so it's a straight across cut (which I haven't had since maybe 5th grade). It looks terrible for my face shape but I couldn't ask for layers because then it would need to be even shorter. On top of this, he was not very friendly, wouldn't engage in discussion, and appeared rushed. He was very rough with my hair as well. I am not sure about other stylists and my hair will grow back and be fine, but based on this experinece, I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

Heather is amazing. She was incredibly accommodating with my hair crisis of taking my half-Persian, half-Japanese hair (super thick and lots of it!) and having the bottom of it silver-y. I went to another salon to have a not-perfect dye job done by a friend altered and ended up with a bronze/pink/green/grey mess that was higher than I wanted. The other salon was supposed to fix it before I started shooting for a film but cancelled on me last minute so I called Kismet and they got me in and out with a nice affordable fix!
