I started working with Macee 5 months ago, wanting to take my color from a red to a medium blonde. In order to prevent extreme damage, she explained it would take a couple of sessions to achieve my desired color. I really appreciated how upfront she was about the process. Got my hair cut once here and the haircut was good. Was supposed to get it cut again today. Waited 45 min past my appointment time and the hairstylist was still cutting hair (not even drying!) the person before me. I understand running behind but that is unacceptable. She was running 20+ min late the first time as well, so it wasn't a 1-off. I won't be going back. I highly recommend Paint Salon! Whether you are looking for a more traditional or edgy look, the hair dressers at Paint Salon will deliver! All staff are kind and welcoming, and more importantly, the hair dressers are super talented. Manda has been my hair dresser since 2016 and I've been going to Paint Salon to see them since the salon opened. Manda is truly a hair artist and I would recommend them to anyone who wants stunning hair. In the past two years I've had basic long hair cuts (past shoulders even length all around), long hair cuts with layers/face framing, bright reds and pinks on long hair, and more recently as of my last two services pink hair with a shag hair cut. What I appreciate most about my styles from Manda, however, is that they grow out really nicely, including both length/style and color. Overall, I've always left the salon happy and am always in awe of how great everyone's hair looks as they are leaving Paint Salon! I found Julia on Instagram and I really loved her work. She was booked out pretty far but I knew she would be worth the wait. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I went in on 03/21/24 to get my hair cut with Erin. I showed her 3 pictures of what I wanted and I told her I wanted my hair to be at my shoulders. I even asked her if she wanted me to keep the pictures up so she would have something to reference and she said, "no I got it, I have a photographic memory. My hair is uneven, sitting just below my chin and I look like a grandma. I'm a 30 year old man. Y'all, Paint is where it's AT. Everything they do here, from hair to COVID safety (to cute decor, even!) is very well-thought out. If you come here, you can trust that you are in the hands of true experts. Manda Z. is the colorist I come here for. I followed them here from their past two salons because they are that amazing at what they do. They are only available a few days per month though, so don't be afraid to give another one of the stylists here a shot too! Since I haven't worked with them personally (although they all seemed very fun and friendly), my review is mainly about Manda. Over the last two years, Manda has colored my naturally curly, dark brown hair: red, red/orange ombré, purple, and blue. The color has turned out beautifully each time. I had never dyed my hair before coming to Manda, and they did an incredible job not only with the color itself, but also with keeping my curly hair healthy and setting me up with styles that last a long time between appointments. I could go four (!) months or even longer between appointments, easily maintaining my hair with custom mixed color conditioners that Manda supplied. If you're intimidated by the price tag for a session, ask about lower-maintenance color options that can last longer between visits. That's how I've been able to make it work with my budget. And note that Manda is a veteran colorist who actually teaches/trains other stylists too. So you're really paying a very reasonable price for a major expert to turn your hair into a work of art. Manda is also just an all around wonderful person! I could not recommend them highly enough, whether you're looking for vivid hair color (their specialty) or a more natural looking one. read more

I just had my second visit to Paint Salon. It has an amazing and welcoming vibe. It is aesthetically beautiful and SO, SO clean. They are super careful and follow the COVID restrictions. Parking is very convenient and it wouldn't be a bad walk from the light rail station. I first saw the amazing hair wizard, Manda. They have been my hair stylist for over FIVE years! I have followed them from place to place. They are a color genius and a big time Redken educator. Due to living and working mostly in Portland it has been a bit trickier for me to schedule with them. Yesterday, I saw the lovely Erin. Not only is she an amazing boss woman to open this salon, she is sweet, kind and she is SO talented. I was going lighter with my blonde and getting a trim. My hair gave me the biggest boost of confidence in the dark days of January. From the lovely Marcus at reception to the other stylists, it was just a great day to spend a few hours at the salon. I really don't want to leave a bad review for a business, but I don't want what happened to me, happens to anyone else. So here I am writing this. I had a long wavy/curly hair. I wanted to make it medium short and I brought a picture with me to show how I wanted it. The end result? My hair does not look like the photo I have shown them, it's extremely short to the point that I can't go anywhere to fix it. I see the salon has a high rating and that's why I chose this place. I've been going to Erin for years and she has always done an outstanding job on my hair! I've always struggled to find someone who can cut my hair with my wave instead of giving me a cut that makes me fight against my natural texture, and Erin has been the only one to get it right!!! I love this brand new salon in Capitol Hill that has veteran stylists. Here's what did it for me: 1) Incredible stylists. I followed Paige from another salon because she is creative and skilled. I started coming to Paint after my long time stylist moved away. I'd been with my old stylist for almost 15 years so I was nervous about trying a new place. I picked Paint Salon for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they're women-owned and it was obvious they took Covid precautions really seriously. The salon is a really lovely space with a good vibe that is stylish but not pretentious or intimidating. It's been surprisingly easy to find parking around the salon every time, which is unusual for this part of Capitol Hill. I've now had three (or four?) appointments with Erin for color. My last appointment we did balayage to lighten up my super dark hair. Erin set my expectations for initial results and we were both really happy when those expectations were exceeded. I've been left 100% underwhelmed and/or straight up blue over bad cuts/stylings from other salons over the past year or so and I'm so glad I gave Paint a try.
