The owners are very kind people who host lots of events for the community, I love the variety of people that come in here, every drink I've ever gotten is delicious, and I meet friends here to hang out because it's such a nice place to be. It gets a little busier during Wayne State University exams but that's okay. Also, because I'm a simple girl and get the same order usually, most of the baristas remember not only my order but my name which feels so nice. Can't recommend enough! read more

Got the avo toast, it was pretty good! Although a little salty but I'm just used to not having salt in my food. The coffee was not bad either. Just made a quick stop on my way to the border. Their coffee is incredible. I'm was addicted to their brown butter pumpkin latte in the fall. Food can be hit or miss. I had a breakfast sandwich on a croissant which was dry as anything. I ordered a bagel next time and it was absolutely loaded with cream cheese New York style--which I loved. Next time I ordered a bagel, I got a mere smear of cream cheese on an otherwise dry bagel. Cold December Saturday morning in Detroit, here for work. I am in love with this café. The sandwich was AMAzinnngg, I'm super picky but I eat all things delish ... Order the Egg Pastrami (mine was on sourdough), everything was so fresh and just went together! Then I ordered the cookie butter latte. YUummy . Everyone was super Dope and friendly, provided quality suggestions. I enjoyed that they have free Qurans (English and Spanish), adding it to my spiritual collection. It was my first time Kitab and I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with ample seating for dining or work. It gives off neighborhood coffee shop vibes, but a bit bigger. I grabbed an iced matcha and the Caniff sandwich. My matcha was tasty and refreshing and was served up quickly. The Caniff was the real show stopper though. The pesto in it is banging. this place was pretty crowded on a friday afternoon. i came to get some work done and got a matcha latte and the campau sandwich. the matcha latte was pretty good and the campau sandwich was delicious, the bread was fresh and it was overall very tasty. this was a pretty solid remote working environment. the only thing i would mention is that sometime around 3pm, i think they must have started cutting onions in the kitchen because my eyes were suddenly watering and it began smelling like onions. that was definitely an experience i've not had before at a cafe or restaurant! read more

I always come for the oat milk draft latte - always yummy, so smooth and sweet enough to not need additional sugar! Service is fast, I wish they called by name though as they are so busy and people order the same drinks. Today was my first time grabbing a sandwich, the Gallagher with halal turkey and veggies on an everything bagel. Quite good, and made for a nice quick lunch together with the coffee. Decent amount of seating with tables, but usually full of students and folks camped out with laptops. I came right after it opened for the day & it was pretty empty on a Sunday morning. I drove & saw I could only stay an hour parked but I brought my backpack full of my study supplies but for not even an hour of work, I wasn't happy with. I picked this cafe for the study vibes and ample seating but didn't feel welcome with those signs out front. But it started getting busier at the hour mark anyway. The music was light but good and it was plastered with flyers of events & some good reads on the shelves. I was excited to hear when Kitab Cafe opened in Detroit, as I have visited the Hamtramck location. It's located in a very cute area of Detroit with a lot of walkable sites, so I thought it was a great stop to grab a latte to walk around and visit other local businesses. There also a nice selection of books to peruse, and it's a nice interior, but definitely fills up in terms of available seating so you may have to wait for a table if you are looking to enjoy your coffee there. read more

This cafe is so popular! Very cute with lots of seats that surprisingly get full more often than not. Tried their grandmas golden tea twice and love it each time. It tastes like a cider mixed with a lemonade with less citrus. Great light iced drink for the hot weather 9/10. This cafe is their 2nd location in midtown. Mostly college students here given proximity to campus. The menu is identical to their Hamtramck location. They serve La Colombe coffee and their pastries are from Zingerman's in Ann Arbor. The oatmilk draft latte is my go-to. It is so creamy and frothy. I recommend adding a bit of simple syrup if you like more sweet drinks. Their sandwiches are all really tasty and fresh. The Holbrook sandwich is my favorite and has a bit of a kick to it. I appreciate how you can choose the type of bread for the sandwiches. The space inside has plenty of seating and feels bright. read more

The place is ok, but it's what you'd expect from a coffee shop catering to students. The coffee quality is subpar, the service was mediocre, and they charged me to remake my drink that they made incorrectly in the first place. So I basically paid double for my beverage. What a cute coffee shop! It's so bright inside and they have lots of indoor and outdoor options. I also love their collection of art of books for sale. We got two of the oat milk lattes, one brown sugar and the other the lavender draft. If you want something not as sweet as a traditional latte, the drafts are a great option! Atmosphere: 5/5!!! Trendy but quiet music playing, a lot of seating available for groups or solo coffee drinkers. Even books available to read and buy! I absolutely loved the vibe of this coffee shop. TLDR: Come for the coffee and atmosphere! Eat beforehand. As for the drinks and food, I've become a bit of a coffee and bagel snob... so if that's not you then this may not apply. That's why I've only decided to deduct one star from this... I'm definitely being picky. I ordered a cappuccino and an everything bagel with cream cheese. I found the cappuccino to be the driest I've ever had... seriously unsure how they even managed get that much foam in my cup. I did not specify at all with the barista, so I don't want to fault them for this. I found the espresso to be delightful. They serve La Colombe coffee- very enjoyable taste. As for the bagel.... this is where my star deduction comes. I need to go back and ask where these bagels are coming from; if they said out the freezer from Kroger I would not be surprised. It was served as a sandwich and basically flattened together. I don't know... call me spoiled... but if I wanted a bagel that tasted this way I'd buy a pack of them out the freezer at a grocery store. read more

One of my absolute favorite coffee shops because they carry La Colombe! The oatmilk draft latte will forever be my favorite. I can't get enough. The interior is absolutely adorable- the concept is a cafe/bookstore hybrid. During my last visit, I had what I think was a brioche toast coated in an orange blossom syrup- it was perfect with my draft latte. I'm slowly making my way through their pastries but they do rotate items quite frequently. The staff are always super helpful and accommodating. read more

I visit this shop daily as the location in HamTram is a bit farther for me as I live in New Center. They know me by name now i go so much. I think this is a great addition to the area both location and diversity wise. Most coffee spots in this area have sparse indoor seating and less of a variety of syrup options. Theres so many syrups to choose from here but I'd definitely rec the 5-spice. I often go through phases of visiting various spots in this area, but between the hours (6:30AM) and consistency of the drinks from different baristas I love this place for before I go to work. absolutely delightful food and drinks. i got the sourdough caprese sandwhich and a latte. both items had SO much flavor, and the menu was extensive and interesting, with items other shops might not have. the barista was super sweet, and despite being really busy, my order came out really fast. the general vibe was super cute, and a few different friend groups were gathered, so it seems like a great place to hang out and catch up. i didn't have much time to check out the books, but that's definitely a bonus! Long line. Only 2 people working the desk. Slow slow slow. You can get a free Quran though! Items come out one at a time and the desk people have to auction them off hoping no one got the same item.
