This spot has been a go-to spot for my family and I over years and they've been very consistent throughout. Depending on the day, this place can get quite busy. So if you're ever hoping to visit with a large group, I recommend calling ahead to reserve a table. This place has been renovated throughout the years to update their look and to ensure a comfortable dining experience. Each visit, the restaurant always looks clean. The servers at this place are always sweet older Asian ladies. They're very kind and polite. They're also very thoughtful, for example, with our meal today, it would've only come with a couple complimentary soups and salads but they gave us a couple on-the-house so there was a pair for each person. For ease of service, there are call bells at each table which are much easier to get attention versus trying to flag down a server. The quality and freshness of their sushi is always on par, which is so crucial when it comes to raw food items. I also appreciate their ratios of fish to rice. Whenever we order tempura, they always come out light and crisp, with no excess oil. For hot items like their dolsot, it always comes out HOT. The restaurant itself is not that big with about 6 tables in the main area and then there is another seating area separated by a wall with probably another 4-6 tables? Menu offers your standard sushi and cooked food (udon/teriyaki etc) options. As the restaurant is advertised as a Japanese/Korean restaurant they also carry some Korean dishes. We ordered a sushi combo with 31 pieces. Was a good variety and the fish was fresh. Tried this restaurant for the first time. Upon entering, you're greeted by all the staff and we got to sit in a nice booth. We came around 6:30 and it started getting busy after we sat down. We ordered the Spicy Maki Platter ($71), Galbi Short Ribs ($16), and Salmon Sashimi 9 pcs ($14). The maki and sashimi pieces were massive and the quality was very good. They have an amazing variety of options, and a very intimate chill vibe with their more private seatings. Sushi Bento A (Lunch Menu): A great option to get if you really want to try a bit of everything. The udon noodles were chewy, a decent amount of toppings and the broth was comforting to eat. The sashimi was probably the thickest cut I've seen. Overall tasted fresh and had no complains especially it was a lot bigger than I expected. The California rolls and tempura veggies were quite standard but were still decent. Galbi appetizer: This is suitable for sharing especially if you want something extra along with the sushi. Flavour-wise was decent and suitable portions as an appetizer (wasn't too small). The meat was a bit tough to eat but still was decent. Overall, highly recommend this place in Richmond Hill! For my first visit, I went there with my husband and we had hot food because of the cold weather. Their Korean dishes were very tasty! For the my second visit, I and my daughter went there before they opened. Since it's Easter holiday, we were not so sure if they would open or not. Oyaji never fails to impress! I'm still ordering from here and eating in their dining room regularly and their quality has only improved! They had some renovations in the restaurant that added a very bright, open concept that I love. It has a great atmosphere for date nights, small family dinners, or get-togethers. They have some new items on their menu that are a little less traditional, but very fun nonetheless. We tried the Nori "nachos" and they were crunchy and delicious. This is my 5th time coming here (yes I counted) and absolutely love coming here for lunch (Sundays lunch special are not offered). It's located in a small plaza beside a women's fitness and hair salon on Yonge and Crosby. This place is family owned and they are all really nice. I always come with my baby here and usually just in time when she naps, so time for lunch! VENUE: They have some assigned parking for Oyaji customers only which is great because the parking can fill up at times. When you enter the restaurant it looks like a small place but all their seats are pretty much booths except for a few, but all tables look more private. They have several more bigger booths inside of the restaurant where the washroom area is. I haven't used their washroom yet.. FOOD/PRICE: Their lunch special bento boxes are well worth it! It comes with edamame, salad, tempura shrimp with a few veggies, and udon (a nice portion too!). All this comes to around $13.75 per person. Food comes quick! I always order the first one that comes with maki, sashimi, and sushi. I also ask for all salmon. Their salmon is thick, pretty good too. Sometimes it's not consistent but nothing major or negative about it in my opinion. They also put a nice amount of dressing on their salad. SERVICE: There is the lady who always served us. She is so sweet and attentive, greets you with a smile. There's also another one who comes out at times to help out. I think she mostly works in the kitchen, but she's also so kind and nice to you. Their service is really good, you'll feel so welcomed. OVERALL: I like everything about this place (just haven't been inside the washroom yet), but only for lunch. Their regular prices look pretty normal compared to Gal's pricing, maybe a tad bit cheaper for some dishes. I ordered the meal for takeout. Flavours were good, but I was not impressed with the freshness of the food. The salmon did not taste particularly fresh. I've eaten in (before COVID) and taken out (since COVID) numerous times and never a complaint except how stuffed I felt after I finished every delicious morsel served to me. I always get a nice greeting and big smiles from everyone when I walk in the door, even when it's busy busy. When I have to wait for my order I'm offered a nice steaming cup of tea. For me it's always quality of the food and service that counts and so far Oyaji has not disappointed me once! When we came, it was before the lockdown, but it was packed for the amount of seats they were allowed to have. I'd recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Their menu offers a good selection of Korean dishes, as well as sushi/Japanese food as well. A lot of their Dishes emphasizes that it's handmade daily by Mr.Kang whom I believe is the owner. The service was great, and the waiting for the food didn't take too long considering how busy the restaurant was. We ordered the small combo sushi/sashimi boat, and the red dragon roll. Luckily, me and my friend only have to wait 10 mins for a table when we went on a Friday at 7pm. We ordered the medium combo (sashimi, sushi) and the portions are generous. The food presentation is not as fancy as some of the other Japanese restaurants in town, but everything is fresh. The staff are very friendly, we enjoy the dinner very much. The only disappointment was that they don't sell wine/beer on that day, the staff said it is bcoz they are in the process of renewing the liquor license. Well, in Japanese, Oyajiおやじ means father. I always believe names show the core value of something, and so does Oyaji Sushi. This small restaurant is at the conner and people always miss it. However, when you go inside, I bet you will be impressive by its decoration and atmosphere. Quiet, warm, clean, tidy and bright. The two sushi chief are middle age men (I think they should be very experienced). One of the staff Billy is so nice. After talk, I knew that Oyaji opened in North York as Sapporo Sushi for years, and then moved to Richmond Hill as Oyaji Sushi and its brand value is Taste + Quality + Enjoy. Tonight, I had Oyaji Sashimi, cowboy roll and salmon hand-rolled sushi with spicy mayo. For the cowboy roll, well, the fired sweet potato did surprise me. The beef was juicy and the sweet potato is crispy outside and soft inside, which is like 'Duet'. It is my first time to have sweet potato and beef combination. It is too creative. For the Sashimi, it is also my first time to have fresh white tuna sashimi. Taste good and specially. The salmon hand-rolled sushi with spicy mayo, I need to say the salmon was full of the roll and the spicy mayo was yummy and spicy enough (even though I seldom have spicy food but I like Oyaji's spicy mayo). Most of the seating is in booths, providing some privacy that's ideal for dinner dates. The service is also friendly and efficient here. You'll be well taken care of. The sushi is one of the smallest size I ate. Small piece of fish and where did they get such a small shrimp? Tuna was that funky looking pink colour. The roll though was quite good. The side includes garden salad, seaweed salad and glass noodle salad. Service was friendly and efficient. Either wave the staff over or just ring that bell by the table. This place is nicer on the inside than the outside. We ordered: Salmon sashimi appetizer - delicious and a great value at 9.95 for nine pieces. Tatami roll - this was bigger than expected and I could not finish it. The inside was yummy but the torched fish on the outside was meh. Oyaji sushi - a medley of sushi and roll. This was okay To start there was also a salad, miso soup and crunch noodle soup. Mmmm crunch noodle soup. All in a better deal than some of the other places in the area. We decided to order take out from this place. We normally order take out from here once a month. And usually have no issues until this time. We ordered the Hwe dup bap and chirashi since I was craving for something like a Pokey bowl. For the Hwe dup bap, the sauce was too spicy for me, but that wasn't the worst part. On the menu they mentioned about topping it with everyone's fave, the avacado. There was none on mine. I was very disappointed. You don't upsell something when you aren't going to put it in the dish. Definitely not impressed. And it wasn't like they ran out either. Also the fish pieces in the dish are the end pieces or the leftover pieces that aren't used in the sushi, Maki, or sashimi. They didn't taste fresh at all. My significant other ate the chirashi and some of my dish, his stomach didn't enjoy it one bit. It was the only thing he ate that day. And he can handle spicy and has a tougher stomach than I do. So something is definitely off with the take out food. I will probably think twice about ordering from there again especially with their take out. When we first tried this place it was a budget friendly place and the fish was decently fresh.
