Do not recommend. Pretentiously priced - the food was awful AND expensive (relative to portion size). Not worth even half of what we paid. I'm like 99% sure that the Cod was not actually Cod. The Cuban bowl was so gross I couldn't do more than 2-3 bites. The burger too; not a single one of us liked their food. It just didn't taste good. Generally speaking- food from places that are so-called 'healthy' often tastes bland or boring. This food is sourced well, healthy- especially considering most doordash options- and absolutely unequivocally delicious. Well seasoned, and well made. I've only ordered it through delivery and have been impressed both times with how tasty it is, the quality of the ingredients and preparation, and that I can feel good about what I'm eating. I'm giving it five stars because that's what it deserves, but the only feedback I would give to the restaurant is to provide more options without garlic in them for sauces and such. For those of us with garlic sensitivities it can be kind of limiting. But really, Kitava- great job! I will be ordering from you again! read more

I freaking love this place. Healthy eats without feeling like it's healthy. My go-to is the Cuban Bowl sub rice with cauliflower rice. It's a little pricey but not as pricey as Erewhon. I've had their nuggets (made with chicken breasts) and other side dishes which were all great. The restaurant is in a brewery, so when you walk in, you need to wait to be seated. Once seated, you can scan a QR code where you can order and pay. The QR code is specific to your location. Additionally, you can also get the beer they brew at the location. They also had a local band and local vendors come in and sell their items. They have an outdoor area, and when weather permits, is lovely to sit outside. I've come here frequently, and if I am flying out of Oakland airport, I do my darn best to stop by and get food-to-go. Lastly, their bathroom is impeccably clean. I judge a restaurant by how clean their bathrooms are (kinda weird, but if they pay attention to those details, I personally think it's a good sign). Doesn't have to be beautiful, just clean and well-stocked. Plenty of parking nearby, but can get sparse during peak hours. It's also by a busy free exit, intersection. read more

I got an order through DoorDash of what I believe is the plantain bowl, which has plantains, beans, rice and avocado and pulled pork, along with a side of fries for an extra fee. I was really excited because I saw that they sell beans and plantains and plantains are my favorite food. However, this is some of the most bland food that I have ever had for things that tend to be very flavorful yet so simple. The food is clean but it feels clinical. I have no clue how they can do a plantain so dirty like that. Even if I were to cook it in the worse possible way, a microwave, it will come out arguably better. The beans were worst than from a can. As someone who grew up eating this daily, this is laughable yet sad considering that the portions on the bowl were tiny relative to the total price for everything, about $25. I just threw half the thing away along with those despicable fries. I have no clue what they put in those fries and ketchup but I only had like 4 of them and threw them away. They were not foul or dirty but nasty in taste. I am sure there is still a clientele but perhaps not many that are grew up with this food that they sell. However its a business at the end of the day and if it works for them and some or many people get something out of this then good I guess. I hope the best for them but if flavor is what you are looking for then look somewhere else The Oakland location does look really nice though! read more

I had an amazing first experience at Buckwild/Kitava in Oakland! After frequenting Kitava's original location in SF, I already knew the food was going to be amazing. Everything came out hot, fresh, and delicious. It was my birthday so I went a little hard on the menu items, we tried the loaded fries, chicken nuggets, Brussels sprouts, and the fish and chips. Shared with my SO, this was a perfect accompaniment to the beer of Buck Wild. We ended up tasting all of the beers plus the guest taps. To get the negative out of the way first, I wasn't a big fan of the guest taps! Now on to the good stuff, that would be ALL of Buck Wild beers. The server even fulfilled my request for the tasting notes on the beer which I really appreciated (I'm from wine country, what can I say)! Each beer had amazing distinct flavor notes which I really appreciated. My "regular" beer drinking boyfriend said they weren't just good gluten free beers, they were good beers. He's never said this about any other GF beer. As a ten year celiac I can say these are the best gluten free I've ever tried. Typically GF beers can read sweet and one note, which was absolutely not the case at Buck Wild. I cannot wait to return to this location. I highly recommend this place whether or not you're gluten free. I love Kitava in the Mission and was super excited to discover Kitava at Buck Wild Brewery. I have to eat gluten free and for the most part, lectin-free (look that one up!) so the menus at Kitava Mission and at Kitava Buck Wild is full of great stuff I can eat without worry, plus really enjoy it! The menu at the Buck Wild location is slightly different from the Mission Street location, but with more additions rather than anything wildly different. For example, they offer fish and chips at the Buck Wild location but not at Mission. And there are some other yummy things like loaded fries, and I think they offer a burger, otherwise, the menu is predominately the same as the Mission Street location. The menu very conveniently offers small plates or full meals. My favorite is to build my own protein bowl so that I can choose my veggies and protein and make a different bowl each time. All the meats on offer are quality product, expertly prepared, well seasoned and consistently delicious! If I go with some friends I prefer to order a lot of small plates so that we can taste several different menu items and share. Get the crispy chicken! For a person who has been gluten-free for over a decade, and lectin-free since 2018 I can tell you it's really hard to find a good deep-fried batter. Well friends, Kitava has it! Whether it's the crispy chicken or the batter-fried fish it will satisfy your deep-fried craving. I'm hoping they'll add a grass-fed beef "corn" dog on the menu using their cassava batter. What I love most about Kitava at Buck Wild is the ability to pair the wonderful food with delicious gluten free beer. I have to admit that I've experienced gluten-type symptoms with other gluten free beer labels (Omission being one of them) so I was hesitant to try Buck Wild's brew, but after several visits I am happy to write that I have never experienced any negative physical effects from their brew. YAY! And another huge plus is that my husband, who can eat or drink anything he wants without dietary restrictions, loves eating Kitava and drinking Buck Wild brews. He says it's just good food and good beer and he can't tell that anything is "missing" or different about it. So, bring your non-GF friends because they'll enjoy it too! read more

The side $9 fish was a joke. A pathetic portion with absolutely no flavor and completely dry and cold. The side of pulled pork was also fair in quantity but was lacking in taste. Bland, no flavor and cold. The Brownie was $5 for an itty-bitty piece- would have been worth it if it tasted good but it didn't. It was like goo and not the good kind, and chalky in the corner bits. Won't be eating here again. Would only recommend the plantain bowl. read more

A lot of dishes or elements taken from different cultures without any of the soul from which they originated. Wouldn't recommend if you, like me, find culinary cultural appropriation gross. Definitely had alot better- I think the reviews are high because there is not much in this area albeit up and coming. for one, as a grain or base you only get one choice- white rice...a little sticky and a little warm. I got the ahi tuna bowl and there was a good amount of tuna on it but the tuna was easily 2-3 days old- not off entirely but very fishy. The cauliflower fritters were great, the dressings and sauces good- but overall I have been to similar bowl places that were much much better...would not go here again. read more

I am so addicted to their power bowl, it's so simple yet so delicious and flavorful. Doesn't matter what you order from here- it's going to be delicious. I usually only order delivery for lunch/early dinner but they are usually really quick and my delivery drivers never wait to pick up an order. Never been inside so can't say what that's like but even for delivery, the food is always fresh and holds up really well. Never received anything soggy or even brown avocados! (Which I wouldn't mind necessarily because avocados oxidize fast). Just goes to show the quality of the ingredients and their prep work! I do wish I was able to find more information on ingredients since my mom has a lot of really random allergies and I'm not sure what they use for seasoning in the power bowl (anything online is pretty vague). They only have I believe Fridays and Saturdays so I'll be sure to go back for the fish and chips; unable to find a good place for them We had the poke, power salad and chicken nuggets. The nuggets were good but I eat so much chicken I cluck. The poke and salad were delicious!! Fresh tuna was kinda cut small so you had to eat the cubes by itself to taste it. Oh my goodness as a person with many food allergies, some life threatening, I truly appreciate their fully detailed nutritional ingredients list leaving nothing to guess or worry about. Great lighting, clean, live plants, friendly and playful staff, reasonable prices. Ice cream is the best ice cream I've had in a long time, possibly ever. Easily accommodating for so many allergies.
