Oh my goodness as a person with many food allergies, some life threatening, I truly appreciate their fully detailed nutritional ingredients list leaving nothing to guess or worry about. On top of all of that the food was so clean, fresh and absolutely delicious. It has been years since I have had fried chicken and the fried cauliflower was hands down my favorite. The restaurant was very comfortable and the esthetics very relaxing and pleasing. mediocre and not worth quite what they charge. I visited Kitava before a concert last week as I was impressed by their great reviews. Definitely had alot better- I think the reviews are high because there is not much in this area albeit up and coming. for one, as a grain or base you only get one choice- white rice...a little sticky and a little warm. I got the ahi tuna bowl and there was a good amount of tuna on it but the tuna was easily 2-3 days old- not off entirely but very fishy. The cauliflower fritters were great, the dressings and sauces good- but overall I have been to similar bowl places that were much much better...would not go here again. read more

Phenomenal- every aspect of my experience here. The food was very well portioned and felt so healthy. Flavors of everything were excellent. Great lighting, clean, live plants, friendly and playful staff, reasonable prices. Ice cream is the best ice cream I've had in a long time, possibly ever. Easily accommodating for so many allergies. Family friendly but could also has the right atmosphere to bring a date. There was also some outdoor seating and a dog water bowl- dog friendly outside! So stoked that this place is here. Took a very celiac friend there and this is legit. No gluten. My friend had the fish and chips and was just over the moon about it. I had the Cuban bowl or plate, whatever, with a dollop of pulled pork. The bowl was like a bento box with all sorts of nice things to nibble on. The plantains could have been cooked a little longer, but they tasted good. The big up side was the excellent service. My friend and I arrived about 15 minutes before opening and figured we'd just sit at the picnic table outside and chat. The waitress popped out to clean the tables and interacted with us immediately, even though she was not on duty yet. It seems like everyone is using QR codes now (God, not another app. ), but because we were there early, the waitress had time to verify on my Android and my friend's iPhone that QR was a no-go. So, she brought out her ipad and took our orders. (The reason for the QR code and ordering through your phone is that they are COVIDly short staffed for now. Other places are doing this, too, so if you are not QR enabled, get the menu off their web page) BTW - we got a flight of beers and the waitress was really good about recommendations. read more

I've seen this spot in SF before, but never had a chance to try it before lockdown. I was excited to see a location open in Oakland, as it's always great to have more healthy options nearby. My boyfriend and I decided to try this out for dinner last night - we both ordered the cuban bowl (one with jasmine rice, one with the turmeric cauli rice), and a side of the brussel sprouts. It was ready in about 10-15 minutes after we placed the order via DoorDash. The bowl was a pretty good bang for your big - a big serving of the rice, beans in some kind of green and sweetish sauce, sweet plantains, and a kale slaw with avocado on top. I thought everything tasted pretty solid for the most part - the plantains were cooked really nicely and so yummy, the rice was interesting and pretty good overall, the beans were delightful and the slaw was maybe my favorite part, seasoned with a really nice dressing. I think that some things tasted a little under salted, but I think that comes with the territory of having a healthy option and I was happy to add it on for myself. I was pleased to still have enough leftover for another meal today :) The brussel sprouts were also really great, cooked perfectly, and the smokey chipotle aioli was great (and so good with the plantains as well!). This wasn't quite as big of a portion for the cost, but we both ate all of them and really enjoyed them. I may try some other options next time or just stick to the sides to get extra slaw, but highly recommend for a solid healthy option with a good variety! read more

Why is this so amazing? So i first heard of this place when i went with my friend to pick up her Cuban bowl. Not only did it look delicious but the people there were so nice. Fast forward i came here with my vegetarian friend. We got the Cuban bowl, the Power Bowl and then brussel sprouts. For dine-in, there's both indoor and outdoor options and you order directly from a QR code. My phone or the app was acting up, so that was a little annoying. It took about 10 min to order But once we ordered, the food came super quick and it was AMAZING. And........ The brussel sprouts is competely worth it. read more

We headed to Kitava today and are so glad we did! What an amazing place for my son who is gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free. He had choices and could pick anything from the menu. He picked the burger and fries and so did I and we both ate every bit. My husband enjoyed the tacos and a beer. The service was top notch, friendly and efficient. We sat inside, ordered on our phones and played a have while we waited. They have a bunch of board games to choose from on a shelf. The food came quickly. We noticed that people sat outside with their dogs. Though it was a bit chilly for us to do that tonight, we would totally consider coming back with our dog in tow! Parking was easy at the time we went. We would come back for sure and are looking forward to heading to Kitava in San Francisco in just near future. read more

I would post a picture but I ate it all before I could take a photo. I got the power bowl with herb chicken. It was delicious. I also grabbed a coffee. They don't have any sugar or creamer and I typically don't drink black coffee but it was naturally sweet and tasty. I will definitely be coming back! read more

I honestly cannot praise this restaurant enough. The food here is GREAT. The flavor of each dish is a harmonious blend of seasonings that taste delicious and distinctive, not overwhelmed by any particular spice or herb. The textures vary from crunchy, to grains and solids, to luscious, smooth sauces. And everything so fresh. The restaurant itself is a light, bright, spacious, spotless, inviting space, with a slight Scandinavian feel. The staff is pleasant, professional, but not intrusive. Even better is that it is not noisy...a table of 4 can easily talk to each other when the restaurant is full and not hear the conversations around them. A big plus for me. The attention to detail to the food and to the surroundings, clearly shows the owner's and staff's devotion to the restaurant's stated mission, "We hope this meal makes your life more enjoyable today!" So disappointed! This is only the second and mostly likely the last online meal that I will get from Kitava. The first meal (a salad) was very fresh and delicious. This meal consisted of a sesame chicken bowl, a side of broccoli, and banana blueberry muffin. The chicken (aka chicken nuggets) were inedible. The thick coating was tasteless and the chicken was unbelievably dry. The broccoli was limp and overcooked. The muffin was okay but I had to dump the rest of the meal. It saddens me that a restaurant that has rave reviews could send something as disgusting as this from their kitchen. read more
