So it was my first time venturing out to Kitchen Sunnyside. I was excited to find omurice on the menu. The seasoning in the omurice was lackluster and all it tasted like was butter. So I searched all over to find a breakfast/brunch resturant to celebrate my wifes birthday and eventhough we have plenty of places in the bay area to go I wanted to venture out n I found Kitchen Sunnyside in downtown mill valley. Millionaire Eggs Benedict with home fries was the best that I have ever had, good size portions and the bacon was by far the HEAVENLIEST MILLIONAIRES PIECE OF BACON THAT I have ever had. My wife loved her Sunnyside Hash and my lil sister devoured her French Toast. I would recommend this place to anyone who jus want to get out of the city and enjoy some great as well as filling food. I just tried this place for the first time last week and it was so good! First of all June was my server and she was so outstanding that I assumed she was the owner. She told me that she wasn't, she was just a server and I told her how lucky they are to have her. I too serve tables and I know a good waitress/waiter when I see them. June was so on top of everything. Not only did she take great care of my friend and me, but she brought our dogs a water bowl and gave each of them a milk bone treat! Treat me well and I'll love you forever, treat my dog well and your tip just went through the roof! The Bloody Mary was amazing and the fresh squeezed orange juice was so yummy! I ordered the breakfast tacos which where quiet delicious but what I loved was their unique breakfast potatoes. I don't know how they do it, but they're crispy Yukon gold potatoes with a Parmesan crust. My friend got the breakfast pot that came out in a huge cast iron skillet. That thing was steaming hot for like 20 minutes. Both my girlfriend and I kept commenting on how good it was and that we would be back! Good food, good variety, pleasant waitstaff, absolutely terrible service. Walked in, just the two of us, it was moderately busy but we were seated right away. Our order was taken somewhat promptly, but that's when things slowed down to a near standstill. We proceeded to wait nearly an hour to be served. So long in fact that one of the other servers brought our check to us because maybe they thought we were taking too long? Who knows. At least it provided another chance to inquire about the whereabouts of our food. Whatever the holdup was we never really received a reason for it, but they did say it would be better next time. So hopefully that's the case. The other tables around us seemed to have much better service. So we will definitely give it another shot. Seems like there is potential here, just working out the kinks I guess. read more

We decided to try the "Toast replacement" on a busy Saturday morning after the Thanksgiving holiday. Although the restaurant was crowded, we were seated right away. That's where the positive part of the experience ended. The menu was uninspiring and it seemed like most breakfast dishes were served with a salad...a salad? Really?? I noticed most dishes went back with the salad still intact. I ordered a very simple bacon/cheese omelette and, after a short time, the server came back to say that she got in trouble for ordering it because everyone was ordering something "custom". I any case, the food was "meh" by any standards and very overpriced. And, what's with the sticks that are poking out of most dishes?? I think they are trying waaaay too hard to be unique and not quite making it. read more

Went for brunch last weekend. They offer coffee and water while you wait to be seated at your table. The brunch menu offers many options for even the pickiest eater (salads, Benedict's, sandwiches, pancakes, avocado toast, etc). I tried one of Benedict's with bacon, tomato and asparagus...was delicious and filling. I upgraded the bacon to the Millionaires bacon for 4 dollars and can honestly say it was maybe worth a 2 dollar upgrade. It was a spice flavored (not hot!) brown sugared crispy bacon but I have had better for about 3 dollars, hence, the price point change mentioned above. Very busy place! But once I tasted the food I could see why. Great service, I had like 4 people come ask me within 5 mins if I was ready to order. There were so many selections to choose from, I was looking at what other people were getting. I ended up getting hot chocolate and eggs Benedict with chicken sausage and has browns. It was so good! Perfectly poached eggs and the hollandaise sauce was amazing. I tried a piece of my friends toast with their homemade raspberry jam, OMG! So good. You must try the jam sitting at the table. Excellent breakfast. The Morning Tacos were so perfect I couldn't stop eating even though I was full about 1/2 way through. All food was very fresh and a perfect compliment of flavors. We've lived locally for 12 years, so we've been to this spot for 3 different restaurants. This iteration is more sophisticated than the first two, but with the same great front-of-house (Jimmy) and a menu that freshens up the typical diner breakfast. Personal recommendations include Millionaire's Bacon, the BEC with a side salad, and their coffee which is head and shoulders above the typical breakfast spot. Perfect for 1-4 people and if you have more, they can push tables together along the windows. Narrow shape makes it intimate though a bit warm along the grill for my husband. Went for Sunday brunch with my son. I had the Morning Tacos and he the Bay Hash. Both very tasty. If you get the tacos, ask for 2 tortillas per taco. They are stuffed so full of deliciousness that one cannot pick them up with only 1 tortilla, they fall apart. Very large portions; I gave one of my tacos to my son and still had a left over taco and potatoes for lunch tomorrow. I really like the creativeness of the menu; not your same old everyone does it breakfasts. Service could use some improvements: no one checked with us to see how the food was and brought us the check before asking if we wanted anything else. We will go back. read more

We were looking for a fun Sunday brunch place and this definitely delivered. It's not a big place, but their food had big flavors. I had the Dungeness crab benedict. The eggs were poached beautifully and the asparagus added a nice crunch. The meyer lemon hollandaise was good, but there were one too many lemon slices on the bottom of the english muffin. The potato medley was excellent and were well seasoned. I never had Gemstone Red potatoes before and they added a nice pink color to the medley. I was looking for a midpoint between San Jose and Sonoma State so I could meet my son for lunch. I brought my friend with me and the three of us each had a fantastic meal that we all sort of shared. We got the Tuna melt sandwich on Ciabatta, the Cheesesteak sandwich, and the avocado salad. The food was wonderful and the staff was amazing. Dishes came out fast, great portions and amazing flavors and the staff were friendly and attentive. We got the dungeness hash (superb flavors and included shrimp and smoked salmon!), blackstone "Millionaire's bacon" Benedict (the bacon is especially good and perfect spice level), and lemon ricotta pancakes (light and fluffy with a delicate rich flavor). I tried this place for the first time with a close girlfriend and I had mixed feeling. I felt the food was very good, a little pricey for breakfast, but I didn't mind since it was delicious. Yet I felt the manger was a little rude and somewhat off. He didn't greet us very pleasantly or welcoming and basically pushed us out of the door to wait for our table even though we had tucked ourselves into a little corner and we're not at all in the way. He could have just politely asked or directed us in the right direction. However, the server was very sweet and the establishment was cute. I've been here twice with my daughter for brunch. First visit was so-so. The second one was awful experience. First visit: Long wait to get a table. Avocado toast was yummy. But Dungeness hash was an unappetizing pile of ingredients. It made hash browns mushy and the flavors of other ingredients just seemed blah. Second visit: Wait for a table not so bad this time. We ordered food and beverages. After some 45 minutes of waiting for food to arrive, we try to find our waiter. Finally he apears (evidently took a break) and when we ask where our food is he says the cooks lost our ticket. We order again: Morning tacos and a Club sandwich. Customers around us offering sympathy and advice that they better "comp" us for bad service. The food was so so. When the waiter brings the check, I reminded him of the terrible service and expected an adjustment. He comes back with $4 off. I tell him this is not acceptable and to send the manager. I'm not sure it was manager, because he was so incompetent. By this time I'm very angry. He goes away and sends some other waiter over. Finally our original waiter comes back and explains if I don't pay the entire original check they will deduct it from his salary. WTF? This is not legal to do in California. I handed him $20 , the check was about $45 and walked out. I've noticed in Yelp reviews that this place has service issues. No one seems to be in charge and with so many other good places, I won't come here again. read more

This place was great. Get there early to avoid the crowd. Everything on the menu is pretty darn good. I highly recommend it.

In a nutshell - Kitchen Sunnyside is no Toast. (Former owners) For some background, I estimate that I've had breakfast here somewhere between 125-150 times over the past 25 years, so I'm not some disgruntled one and done diner here. When the business was sold to new owners a few years ago, the formerly great and reasonably priced menu was altered drastically. About half the menu items disappeared (including awesome chicken watermelon salad), and the prices went up around 25%-40%. Wonderful long-time employees also eventually left after new ownership arrived. (We miss you Jimmy and Alma!) Service under new ownership is usually spotty, and sometimes downright abysmal. I would estimate that there's something that has been screwed up with our orders at least 40% of he time now. Today was a typical example: I arrived with two friends for breakfast at about noon. A fair number of people in line before us, but this is not unusual on a weekend day at brunch time here. Fortunately the wait was not too long this time, maybe 15 minutes. (Sometimes it can take 45 minutes to an hour, depending upon the customers.) One friend ordered some sort of omelette dish, the other ordered poached eggs. I asked about the Buttermilk pancakes ($11.00): Me: "The pancake stack is 3 pancakes, can I order just 2? Waitress: "Yes, but still the same price as 3." Me: "Hmm. Ok. I'll just order the regular 3 stack then. And please, no powdered sugar on them." I would also like a side of bacon, crispy, please." Waitress serves our food sometime later, my one friend gets his omelette with no issues, my pancakes come with powdered sugar on them, a *tiny* amount of syrup, and NO bacon. My other friend's poached eggs are nowhere in sight. I scrape the powdered sugar off my pancakes (this has happened before at this place multiple times), and don't say anything. We sit and wait for about 5 minutes for our friend's poached eggs to arrive, as we don't want to be rude and start eating without him. In the meantime, I ask our waitress if I can get a little more syrup. She says yes and disappears. After a while, my egg-less friend flags down the waitress and asks about the ETA of his eggs. She says: "Oh, poached eggs take a really long time." ?? Ok. After another minute or two, the poached eggs are finally delivered by another server. I ask (again) for more syrup that was never delivered when I asked previously. The syrup is produced. All is well, except that my side of bacon was never delivered. By now, I'm nearly done eating my pancakes, and the waitress comes over to check on us. Me (nicely): "Everything is fine, but I never received my bacon. So you can just cancel that. I don't need it anymore." Waitress: "Oh, let me check and see if it's ready for you." Me: "No thank you,that's all right, I don't want it anymore." The waitress seemed confused and hesitant, and it almost seemed like she was about to tell me that I was still going to have to pay for the ordered bacon that was never delivered. WTH? When she presented us with the check, she made a point of telling me that: "It's ok, we took the bacon off the bill for you." Gee, thanks! Sad to say, "service" like this seems to be the norm at this place these days. It's too bad really, as there is a dearth of decent breakfast places in downtown Mill Valley. read more

Even though the staff were hurrying to get us out (bringing the bill with our food, etc.) they still refilled our waters and the food was plated nicely. Great place for brunch! Everything on the menu sounded great, but settled for a traditional eggs breakfast. The yelpers were pretty accurate about the fluffy eggs - so yummy! I'd also recommend the millionaire bacon, thick grilled bacon drizzled with maple and a bit of spice. My boyfriend loved the eggs benny, he said the Canadian bacon was flavorful and paired well with the hollandaise. We'll definitely be back! read more
