I heard about this spot from an influencer and decided to check it out while I was in the area. It's a small shop with limited seating and a few touch screens for placing your own order. My mom and I both went with salads--she got the teriyaki chicken, and I had the bulgogi. Both were generously portioned and delicious. The chicken was well-marinated and juicy, and the bulgogi was flavorful and tender. We ordered our dressings on the side, which worked perfectly. Came here with a group of friends to grab sandwiches ahead of a leisurely hike in Mill Valley. Liked the location, self ordering tablets with very clear instructions. My banh mi itself was not amazing though. Nice toasted bread and fixings but the bbq pork itself wasn't the same as some of the banh mi meat in San Jose, maybe it's not a fair comparison. Great Banh Mi! I got the chicken Banh Mi and it was really good! They are generous with the toppings! Their Hong Kong milk tea is good too. The prices are more than you'd pay at an SF 'hole in the wall', but this is a prime Marin location with nice seating and decor. I found the staff to be nice and the restaurant is very clean. Came here for a quick dinner to-go. Banh Mi Zon is located in Tam Junction near Good Earth and the HQ Fuel. There's a small parking lot outside. It was easy and quick to order inside as they had multiple self order kiosks. The inside was clean and bright and there was plenty of seating. Service was quick and friendly. I didn't have to wait long to get my sandwich (I got the Traditional). It was wrapped neatly in paper and I like that they pre-cut it in half. The baguette was crunchy, and everything tasted fresh. Overall, the banh mi was less bready, greasy and salty than the ones I got growing up in the South Bay. But I like the ones from Banh Mi Zon because it felt "clean" and I didn't feel heavy after eating it. To be honest, this isn't the cheapest banh mi I've had, so I wouldn't consider this a "cheap eats" spot but with the limited Asian food options in Sausalito / Mill Valley, this would certainly be the place to hit up if you're craving Vietnamese. read more

The BBQ pork bahn mi misses the mark. The overwhelming flavor profile is sweet rather than a balance of sweet/spicy/umami. The pork is sweet and strong on five spice. The pickled vegetables are sweet instead of a mix of sweet and sour. They need more vinegar and probably a little salt, too. They tasted like coleslaw. There were two small slices of jalapeño but not enough to give the sandwich a nice balance. The bread should be crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bread tasted fine but it was chewy instead of crunchy/soft. It's rare that I don't finish a bahn mi but there just wasn't much flavor to this one beyond sweet and five spice and I grew tired of that. The Vietnamese iced coffee was pretty good and very sweet as it should be but not as strong as it should be. My order was ready quickly, under ten minutes from when I placed it. read more

There is something magical about fresh warm bread and cold picked vegetables. I got teriyaki chicken which was delicious. Also tried the bbq pork which was pretty good. Unlike some bahn mi places they didn't overdo the sauces. Will be back! It's a perfect meal after a hike. read more

I ordered the Twilight Taro ($7) with oat milk ($.80) and double boba ($1.50). The drink is a non caffeinated combination of taro and purple yams with fresh milk. When received, it did not resemble the picture from the menu. The drink was creamy, slightly thick, taro/purple yam forward, very flavorful and perfect with the less sweet option. I prefer no ice, I was only allowed a less ice option. The ice level seemed regular, consuming 3/4 of the cup space. They honored the double boba as each sip had ample boba to enjoy. With no one at the walk up window when I arrived, the staff was not proactive checking in on me. I had to knock on the window to have someone eventually acknowledge me. Not great considering two employees watched as I walked up and stopped in front of the window looking back at them. Besides that, it was an easy, flavorful experience. Not sure if I'd return, mainly due to parking. I am glad I checked out Oddcha, I was not disappointed in the drink chosen.

Why wouldn't it be when there's cheese cream along the cup edges like the oddcha Matcha, and that they offer a basic Thai tea for the exact same price? Thoroughly disappointed when it was just a Thai MT with some cream cheese spread. I asked an employee to make sure, and they confirmed it was just a thai tea with cheese lol. The thai tea is objectively good, but then again it's REALLY hard to mess up thai tea. Perhaps their other drinks are more of a hit, but it's pretty hard to justify coming here as a non-local who lives across the bridge.

Well after the long ceremony, it was time to grab some grub and celebrate properly with all that made the trip to San Rafael to see the ceremony. So I had reservations at a few spots in town that I thought were pretty good options to grab a bite afterwards but my daughter had other ideas. She told us after graduating all she wanted to do was just go grab a Banh Mi and a Vietnamese coffee at the spot her and her friends went to many many times over the past four years. Nostalgia I tell ya. Well after a small debate, I relented and we headed to Banh Mi & Coffee on Grand Avenue in San Rafael. Parking for this little shop is a nightmare as it's a very small shopping strip with just a few spots-some of us had to find street parking in this highly congested area. Once inside this very cozy shop, it's almost like stepping back in time. To call it a no-frills shop is quite the understatement. But for some reason, something told me this place was going to be great! We ended up going with a mix of different sandwiches-a few grilled porks and a few grilled chickens and a Vietnamese coffee Sandwiches ran around $7.00 each and the Vietnamese coffee ran around $5.50. There was a slight discount for paying in cash. The sandwiches got to us after a very short 10-12 minute wait and I so love when I'm right about a place. These Banh Mi sandwiches were legit-very tasty-very filling-meat cooked well, right amount of veggies-I've got to admit, even though I was hesitant, it truly hit the spot. I preferred the grilled pork over the grilled chicken, but others in the party preferred the chicken. The Vietnamese coffee was pretty perfect as well-truly took me to the moon and back with its mix of coffee strength and sweetness-I was going to be buzzing off that thing the entire ride back home to Sacramento. I truly can see why the students at Dominican University love and cherish this place so much. Even though it wasn't what I had in mind for a graduation meal, it ended up working out pretty well and at the end of the day all that really matters is sharing quality time and food with the people that matter & Banh Mi and Coffee definitely provided the quality food. I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the San Rafael area and feel like enjoying a high-quality, authentic Banh Mi.

I was served quite an amazing bowl of pho today…read more I wanted to try the pho at Golden Era for a while now, but never made it there until today due to various reasons. Since I had to get my watch fixed across the street from the restaurant at Gold Rush Jewelry today, I had decided to do my foodie thing and see if I have been missing out. My review here is strictly related to the pho that I had today. As long as the restaurant location was clean (and it certainly was), the food makes no difference to me whether I was served at the restaurant or the WH with the whole place painted in gold. Also I do make my own pho broth (aka liquid gold) at home, so I am all about searching for a different impressive interpretation. Back to the food, I took a picture of my bowl of pho as soon as it was served at my table, and I immediately tasted the soup before anything else was added to it. The soup was perfectly balanced both spices and seasoning wise and the temperature was just right. Then I added basil, bean sprouts, and a squeeze of lemon juice to my pho, as nothing else was needed to alter or masking the original taste of the slowly simmered broth. There was no need to insult the broth (or the broth chef) by adding hoisin sauce and fake stuff to it. I truly enjoy the style of the beef served. The beef pieces are very tender, not like the rare beef slices that most Vietnamese restaurants offer. Also I cannot say enough good things about the ribs that came with my pho order. Overall it was a very satisfying bowl of pho to me. There are many Vietnamese restaurants out there with their own interpretations of pho broth in terms if the use if spices, seasonings, and bone to water ratios in make the all day all night long slow simmering broth. Also, northern style and southern style pho are quite different from each other by taste and composition. There is nothing wrong with most of these other Vietnamese restaurants and their own interpretations , however I found the pho that I had today at Golden Era very agreeable with what I am looking for in terms of "balance". Some spices might smell great if a lot of it is used, but could create a noticeable unpleasant taste and even an irritation reaction to the throat. This is why I believe Golden Era is a winner with the pho game. I have a photo of a fully finished bowl to proof it. I will definitely return to Golden Era again. Will see if their quality control is consistent enough to build a regular customer base. Other factors to consider: they do have a clean and tidy looking kitchen, but from the front end of the restaurant to the kitchen is about 30 plus steps; the restaurant was operated by a grandma and grandpa only when I was there at 11:30 am, they were very nice and doing the best that they could... please be kind to these folks.

Remind the server sooner. We were one of the earlier tables and finished as the second to the last table at lunch service. We will be back for the outstanding hoisin ribs, the mushroom noodles and of course, the terrific chicken pumpkin curry which is normally available.
