First of all - the ambience is so unique! It's whimsical yet tasteful and the vibe changes depending on the season. If you value elegant but not pretentious wit and atmosphere - this is the place for you! Second - the service is fantastic. Once you enter the place, we were greeted with a welcoming energy and our server was absolutely lovely - super attentive but not "on you all the time". Just right. And lastly - of course - the food is just outstanding! All the Thai classics you wish for but presented in a modern way. We can understand why this Thai restaurant is so popular. The place is inviting with plants festooned throughout the restaurant. My husband and I arrived on a Saturday in the late afternoon and there was already a wait for walk-ins. We were impressed with the hostess who greeted us at the door. She did a great job letting us know how long the wait would be. We felt that she cared about what she did and wanted to make sure our first impression was a good one. When the wait would have possibly gone longer than the 15-20 that she quoted, she made sure to let us know and why. We felt as if we personally mattered and were not just covers needing to be sat. She offered to get us drinks and gave us menus to peruse while we waited. The kitchen was going at full throttle. Togo orders were flying out the door and more were lining up. Once seated, though friendly, service was not as impressionable as the hostess. We had asked her to stagger the dishes a bit but the three dishes came out all at once. The table was small. We understand that they were busy but that did affect our experience. The Thai Iced Tea was refreshing. We also had Fire Cook Beef, Pad See Ew Noodles, Spicy String Beans and a Side of Steam White Rice. Nice portions. Dishes were nicely spiced so much so that we forgot to ask for a spice rack. I came here for lunch with my mom and was immediately drawn in by how nice the ambiance was inside--it's a really inviting space and felt like a great spot to sit and relax. At the start, there was a bit of a communication barrier with our waiter. I had just wanted to order an iced tea, but she kept saying I couldn't unless I ordered from the lunch menu. I explained that I was totally fine paying full price since I wasn't planning to stick to the lunch menu options, but it took a little back and forth to get that sorted. For food, I ordered the tamarind chicken, which was good, and the portion was massive. The coconut rice was delicious, and the tom kha soup was also good. Overall, the food was solid, but nothing that really stood out as amazing. One thing that did concern me was the water jug they brought to the table--it looked like it had black mold underneath. Unfortunately, noticing that while we were eating made the experience feel a bit off-putting. Because of that, I didn't end up eating the leftovers either. The waitress, Tong remembered my son's allergies and it felt like we were regular customers there. If I lived in the area, I would frequent this place regularly. Fabulous Thai food for my birthday dinner with my family. We were seated in the corner by the window (great spot!). We ordered the Garlic Noodles, Spicy Green Beans with adding angus beef, Seafood Pad See Ew noodles, Crispy Pork Belly, Roti with Green Curry, and Crab Rangoon. Came here over the weekend for an early birthday celebration. What a cozy restaurant with tons of ceiling decorations of paper umbrellas, lanterns, greenery and plants. For a party of 2, we ordered the Chicken satay, steamed dumpling, Pad See Ew Noodles with chicken, Tamarind Chicken. The food was large portions, fresh, Thai flavors with an American twist. Most of the dishes we ordered had a sweet base geared towards an American palette. Service was great, got seated by the window so got to people watch in downtown San Anselmo. We have always had great food and friendly service. Still had very nice service, but the food was not as delicious as what we expected. I had fresh spring rolls and my husband had a curry with seafood and chicken stuffed prawns as an appetizer. The appetizer was very greasy and mostly breading. The curry was okay but not as delicious as he remembered and more vegetables and fish than shellfish. The fresh rolls were okay and it's probably my fault for not separating them from my husband's food for the trip home, but they were dried out and wilted. We will be back. I've been going to this restaurant for many years, and it has been our favorite Thai restaurant. So along with my positive previous reviews, I need to give an update on our most recent experience. We ordered takeout last Friday. Two of the dishes included chicken (Tom Kha Soup and Pad Thai). Unfortunately, the chicken was dry, tough, and tasteless. Was it precooked and added to the dish at the last moment? The dishes themselves had plenty of flavor, but eathing the chicken was less than satfisfying. We'll give the restaurant another chance since there are off nights, or maybe just not order anything with cut up chicken strips in it. Very disappointed. read more

Thai food is my favorite cuisine, and I just found my new favorite Thai restaurant in Marin: The Baan Thai in downtown San Anselmo. We ordered the green papaya salad, the Crying Tiger salad, the Tamarind Chicken, the Khao Soi, and Thai iced teas, and everything was excellent. Pro tip: order the tangy, sweet Tamarind Chicken. It's a house special. We brought some home and it was incredible cold on top of a salad the next day. The Crying Tiger salad was such a standout, loaded with fresh herbs. A delicious meal in a beautiful spot, and any excuse to visit downtown San Anselmo is a good one. read more

Was passing through and decided to stop by this place for dinner and glad we did! We ordered the following: - Thai Samosas: These were absolutely delicious. The filling was a perfect blend of taro, sweet potato, pumpkin, onion, and carrot, with little bits of corn kernels for added texture. The outer wrap was thin and crispy, making each bite so satisfying. The dipping sauce that came with it complemented the flavors perfectly. Would recommend these - 5/5. - Crab Fried Rice: There was a generous amount of crab in this dish, and the portion was enough to feed two people. As someone who loves spicy food, I would have preferred some heat, but thankfully, their Thai spice tray they provided (upon request) solved that problem, and I was able to adjust the spice level to my liking. - 4/5 The service was great. The waiters were friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The interior was also lovely, with hanging plants and decorative lighting that created a pleasant atmosphere. WOW. This place really knocked it out of the park! My boyfriend frequents here often for lunch & I've always seen the incredible photos of the food. I couldn't wait to try it myself. We went for lunch yesterday (Saturday) at around 1pm. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was great and attentive. I really enjoyed the layout inside. What we ordered to share -- perfect for the two of us (with plenty of leftovers): Holy Thai Basil with Crispy Pork Belly: The pork belly was truly crispy as advertised. The picture doesn't do it justice. Order this and you won't regret it! Best eaten with rice. Tom Yum (combination seafood): Tom Yum is one of my favorite soups. It's a bit more on the sweet side compared to other Tom Yums I've had but it's delicious. I can't wait to come back and try their other dishes. A standout restaurant in Marin. 10/10. read more

The Good: The service was fine and the ambiance was fine in a causal sort of way. The Not-so-good. The food was mediocre at best. But the bigges issue is that for some inexplicable reason, the owners thought it was a good idea to engage in deceptive and underhanded pricing practices rather than being open, honest and transparent with what they are charging their customers. Sometime in the last few weeks ownership has slipped in an under-the-radar "service fee", apparently thinking that no one would notice and just pay a bill that seems slightly higher than the published prices on the menu would suggest. The only explanation that I can come up with is that ownership doesn't believe that the price/service/quality that they offer their customers justifies their raising their prices on the menu by 3%. They must feel that if they were take this honest and transparent approach, that their customers wouldn't come back. Well, I can tell you that I am not going back. There are plenty of other great Thai restaurants around that are honest and upfront with how they treat their customers. They say that you "vote with your dollars" and I'm taking mine to open and honest restaurant owners. read more

While the restaurant looks nice, the hard wood chairs are miserably uncomfortable. Very hard bottom made sitting more than 5 minutes very painful. I have to say I was very skeptical of this restaurant as the prices of the Thai dishes are way more than typical Thai food in LA (which is amazing Thai food). But I was proven that this place serves food that is worth it! There were many dishes that I wanted to try and even the dessert! The pumpkin curry and pad-see-ewe tasted great! I was really amazed by the pumpkin curry; it does have a little kick to it and doesn't come with rice. The service of the place was great! Food came pretty fast too! We did arrive a little before 8pm, so there was a wait. We were seated about 25 minutes after putting ourselves on the waitlist and got out of the restaurant before 9pm. This is in downtown, so parking can be hard depending how far you want to walk. Again, this place is pretty pricey for Thai food, but the flavors and quality make it worth it. I enjoyed Baan Thai Cuisine. Their food sizes are big enough to share, so I would recommend asking for multiple plates and/or bowls to share food. My sister got the noodle Curry while I got the pineapple fried rice. I added steak to my meal and took out the nuts. Also for dessert we got the fried banana and mango ice cream, which I also enjoyed. I just didn't know that the mango ice cream had fried coconut flakes on top, which I would've asked them not to add for me. The staff was kind and helpful. Cleared out table quickly and even wiped it down before the dessert came out. The place is so beautiful! this has to be the best quality and taste Thai restaurant I have been to anywhere in the Bay Area. Outside of Thailand this is the best Thai food I've had and will definitely be going back. the coconut prawns were delectable and super favorable and the right combination of crunchy and moist the lemongrass beef was insane! will definitely be ordering that regularly the tamarind chicken was superb and the sauce it came with can literally be put on everything else you order, so good the green curry rice felt like a rare find, haven't seen that on any other thai restaurant menus in the bay area. next time i may get get with tofu vs chicken as there was a lot of chicken. but still overall quite excellent if i had to be critical of the restaurant for anything it would be the mango sticky rice. here the main issue would be quality of mango but given its a seasonal fruit and hard to find good mangoes around here generally, not completely surprised. i would suggest to the restaurant they also get a bit creative and think of other soft serve ice cream flavors they can offer or at least offer a mango and soft serve option vs mango only being an option with green sticky rice it would also be nice to have a mocktails menu. i am guessing they only have a beer and wine license but that's ok. the Tom Yum beer was refreshing with unique flavor read more

They did not stumble. They marched straight in, tangled with chili and basil. The spice rose slow like the sun, then stood high and bright. The green curry was thick and sure. Chicken, red bell pepper, bamboo--boats in a green river. Each bite was steady and warm. The kind of warmth you carry out the door with you. Jackie runs the place. He runs it well. Came here with a friend on a Saturday evening after visiting The Artist Within (a cool gallery I'll probably write about later.) We arrived about 6 pm and were seated immediately. By the time we left, around 7:30 pm, there were people waiting outside for a table. My friend had the papaya salad, which he said was good but had none of the spiciness that is sometimes typical of the dish. A bit disappointing for him -- our server (who was fine, btw) didn't ask what spice level he wanted, so I have to assume that the default is "no heat". He also ordered the spicy eggplant (just plain, without a protein add-on) which I tasted, and it was delicious. Tender but not gloopy. Mild flavors completely blended, just the slightest bit of spiciness from the chilies. Didn't rely on a heavy sauce or sugar. One could simply eat one perfectly sliced chunk at a time with a fork or chopstick and enjoy both the mouth-feel and the flavor. I loved my Baan Thai Salad for its complex array of acid, salt, and very slight sweetness. The menu lists as ingredients: minced chicken, prawns, green bean, green onion, mint, cilantro, fried onion, coconut flake, cashew nut, carrot, ground peanuts and lettuce. Flavors were layered rather than blended, and the shrimp was tender and mild in comparison with the other ingredients. I'd swear there was Asian dried shrimp in this dish from the taste, and I know a lot of western palates do not enjoy this particular ingredient, so you've been warned. All of it made for a unique dish that actually got more delicious as the evening wore on. I'd come back just for this salad and order the eggplant as a contrasting bonus. We were seated in the front area by the windows, and the noise level was high enough that my friend and I sometimes had a hard time hearing each other, and had to speak loudly enough that I noticed the people at the next table listening to our conversation. Oops. I think all the glass windows in front just bounced sound around. There were a couple outside tables that would probably have been quieter, although the downtown was jammed up with crowds attending a Beatles cover band event and fundraiser for arts programs. San Anselmo is pretty quintessential, concentrated Marin County wealth and cuteness, so just know that's what you're getting, a mix of slightly hippie rich people, post-IPO liberty, and expensive sunglasses. Baan Thai is definitely worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Took my family here and I grew up eating in Thai town in L.A. every week. So moving here to NorCal, I been on a search to find something as authentic and delicious. We ordered 8 dishes from apps to entrees to share between 3 adults. Hands down everything was delicious and seasoned well. We came during lunch time but didn't order anything off that menu just the all day menu, I'm sure it's a steal though. Must order the Pad See Ew. Place was clean, it wasn't busy bc we came at noon so we didn't wait. Our server checked on us throughout our time. You need to check them out! read more
