The menu, while smaller, still has many fun and interesting options so we had no problem deciding on our meals (& drinks). The Blackberry Smash and the Autumn Cow-Man were the cocktails we ordered and the Thai Chili Brussels, Cheesesteak Eggrolls were the apps and the Buffalo Wings and Grilled Chicken Sandwich were the entrees. ALL THE FOOD (& drinks) were AMAZING!!!! Flavors were popping! Portions were generous! The food truly lived up to all the hype! The only reason the review isn't 5 stars is because our server was seriously on delay ... it had nothing to do with being busy because we had clear sight of him the entire time ... he was just on "island time" in NJ lol! We didn't make a big deal out of it because we were in no rush and were really enjoying ourselves but if he would've been on his Ps and Qs this would've been a 5 star review. Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.

After cashier took care of the first two, I lifted up both arms to say "what's up here?" Then I heard him say to the two customers in front of him that "That guy is acting crazy." At that point I told him to enjoy my sandwich -- and the tip I'd left on the PREPAID ORDER -- because I would not be waiting longer. Or coming back. Let's count all the ways this is a bad look: A business can't have employees talking about a customer to other customers -- PERIOD. It can't have people who use the order-ahead system waiting at the back of a line they expected to avoid entirely. It can't be rude to people who are arriving at the site and may not know the particular "rules" for online pickup.
