I ordered a Greek salad with grilled shrimp and the owners brother came over and said that EACH shrimp is $3.99. Yes, I said $3.99 for each average size shrimp. This is exactly why there were only a handful of patrons in this restaurant. Do not support this type of extortion! I'm sure they will be out of business very shortly. Even the waitress, who was extremely nice and respectful, could not believe the cost for each individual regular size shrimp. I have to say, I was a little disappointed. I love this place, we go here a lot. maybe yesterday it was just a bad day I don't know. The last three times we have been here, we had flies flying around our food. very annoying. last night there were 3 flying around and landing on our food. Just makes you wonder... if the flies out in the dining room are they also in the kitchen? My husband absolutely loved his dinner but mine was questionable. I ordered Mac & cheese. when it came out it was just a pile of white mush. I don't know where the macaroni was, because there was not a single lump in it. I honestly thought she gave me mashed potatoes by mistake. it was also just lukewarm. The waitress, however, was fantastic. She really took good care of us. She went above and beyond. read more

Recently I went to the Country House Diner in West Deptford. It's one of the few in the South Jersey area I haven't been too. Atmosphere: The outside is a cute little building resembling a house. It's not a big shiny, metallic diner, but it resembles a country diner. The inside has mostly booths, small bar, and a few tables. I arrived around 10 am, and it was clearly packed with regulars. Coffee: The Country House Diner brews Lacas Coffee. It was brewed hot and fresh, and we received plenty of refills. Food: Since it was still early, I was given a breakfast menu. I decided to order the number 3. It was steak and eggs, grits or hashbrowns, and toast. I ordered my steak medium rare, over easy eggs, rye toast, and grits. The steak was good. It wasn't rubbery, which is often an issue. The eggs and toast tasted good. The grits were kind of bland. They weren't terrible, but they lacked flavor and probably came from a box. In all, I liked my meal. Service: The waitress was friendly, refilled my beverages, and the food came out quickly. It was great. Overall Thoughts/Would I go back? If your kitchen staff does not know how to make homemade corned beef hash why is it on your menu??? If you are slopping down the contents of a $1.99 can of Heinz Corned Beef Hash and charging $6.99 aren't you doing a disservice to your customers??? Just cross it off ..., Anyhow, I went for the pancake one egg and sausage special. It was really good. The pancakes thick, fluffy and tasty even before adding butter and syrup. Sausage was not your every day links and the egg nice and fresh. The coffee cup was constantly filled and tasted like quality coffee. Although I did not need jelly nor jam I couldn't help but notice the jelly rack was filled with MIXED FRUIT JELLY, the run-off waste product of jelly companies that no one goes shopping for and no one wants on their toast. An over abundance of MIXED FRUIT JELLY is an automatic loss of one star. Every table I looked at only offered MIXED FRUIT JELLY, these guys go bargain hunting at the jam shop or perhaps they save the good stuff for the locals? It's a dinner. I really can't say much more than that, it's a dinner. The breakfasts are good but not fancy. Your lunch specials are good, classic sandwiches. The diners are where they fall down. On my most recent visit, all the dishes at my table at my table were over cooked. Dried out meat is closer to what I got. I personally said I wanted my meal rare to medium-rare but we'll done is what I got. Thank God for the sauce and my water as I could eat some of it. The waitress only came back after we gave up, waited 5 minutes and asked for the check. Just order breakfast or a sandwich. If you want to dare a diner plate, avoid anything thin or not meant to be well done. read more

This was my second time at this diner. We stay at the Best Western in West Deptford, NJ and this is the closest diner. It is clean, with nice staff. It was busy but our food was quick and accurate. The menu wasn't priced bad and there were plenty of choices and specials to choose from. I think my only real complaint was that I ordered my potatoes with fried onions and peppers for a dollar extra and they were raw. That's probably not a big deal to most but raw onions give me horrible indigestion. I will probably go back to this diner if I'm in the area again but I will be a little more careful when ordering things that bother me. read more

Went here today for breakfast. My daughter and I had the cream chip beef. Not long after we left we started not to feel good! I had to stop somewhere down the road to use the bathroom ASAP! My daughter started not to feel good not long after we pulled away. We have been sick all day. My daughter is now throwing up and showing all signs of food poisoning! We will never eat here again! So thankful we each only ate half of our meal or we would be a lot worse! This is the only thing we both ate today! read more

Regarding a recent experience my family has had, we had to decrease our rating to 3:5 My father ordered an omelette and specified NO potatoes. The server kindly offered a fruit cup instead and my father obliged . The omelette arrived chock full of potatoes! And when my father mentioned this mistake the server had a complete lack of regard for the mistake. We go here a lot, this is one of our towns coveted diners! And we will be back. Location is only a few blocks off Route 295. We were greeted by a happy hostess who promptly seated us. Our waitress was not far behind with an extensive menus. My husband selected a Rueben with fries. It also came with a cup of bow tie chicken noodle soup, cole slaw and large pickle slice. I ordered a tuna melt on rye with cheddar cheese, fries, cole slaw, pickle slice and bow tie chicken noodle soup. This lunch was TERRIFIC! The food came out quickly from the kitchen, hot and loaded with flavor. I don't know how they made sandwiches better but they did by far. Crunchy pickles too! Our new favorite place to go. Only ever been for breakfast. At most diner's like the Country House, I stick to the staples - eggs, some breakfast meat, toast, or alternatively, pancakes/French toast. Doing that, I've never been disappointed (or wowed). A co-worker ordered their vegetarian omelet and it came out as if mid-way through the flip, the cook forgot to add a few veggies, opened the omelet back up, and tried to throw more stuff in. She didn't finish half of it. I will say that the service is always prompt and welcoming. read more

This is where the locals eat. We come here often for breakfast/brunch. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. My husband ordered an omelet and I ordered chicken orzo soup and a BLT. On a cold day, the soup was perfect. It was flavorful and served at a good temperature. The BLT was good even with the winter tomatoes. My husband said that his omelet was "just alright" because the eggs were flat not light and fluffy. Our other complaint was the Ketchup....it was terrible. Definitely not Heinz. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The prices are reasonable. We will continue to go but we will probably not order anything that requires Ketchup. read more

4/1/2023 3-4 PM. This is usually my go to restaurant when we do go out and celebrate. I'm starting to think it may have been an April's fool joke. I ordered the Louisiana Cajun chicken sandwich with provolone cheese instead of cheddar. I don't like cheddar on my chicken sandwiches. Our orders came out at a descent time. Mine had cheddar on it. I pointed it out to the waitress when she made the remark, oh that's right, you wanted provolone. I'll make it right and send it back. Two minutes later, I get the sandwich back and they pulled off the cheddar and added a slice of provolone on top of it. No Bueno. I pointed it out again and she said they would make a new one. Got the second one, and guess what? They must of scrapped more of the cheddar off and added a new slice of provolone. There was still cheddar around and under the chicken cutlet. The manager came over from the cash register. He said he would personally cook me the sandwich. When I got it, it was good but it was a plain chicken cutlet. They forgot it was supposed to be a Louisiana Cajun sandwich. I don't know if it was washed off or what, but I took the high road and said nothing else afterwards. When I paid and the person at the register asked how was the food? I just laughed, paid the bill and left. I guess when they said they were going to make it right, they meant for themselves. This place is just a few streets away from my house (please don't stalk me!!) and somehow I managed to drive by without stopping for almost a year and a half! Well, No More! I have only been here for breakfast, but I have never been disappointed. I have enjoyed everything I've ordered there, and everything my boyfriend has ordered, for that matter. This includes: Omelets, fried eggs, hash browns, cream chipped beef, scrapple, bacon, and French toast. No one at Country House is that friendly, but who wants to be cheerfully yammered at when they are hungover on a Sunday morning, anyway? And I kind of wish they'd stop calling it a "Restaurant," when everything about it - decor, food, servers - screams, "DINER!!!!" If I ever go there for a meal other than breakfast, I'll update. We've driven past this place for years and never stopped until recently. At any rate, it turns out to be a pretty decent little diner with reasonable prices and large portions. Good breakfasts & great lunch specials during the week. If you're expecting something fancy or a young hip crowd, it's not happening here. But if you want a hot, quick meal in a small family type joint then you should be satisfied. It's a nice option to the ginormous SJ diners that are the norm. read more

This is a good, simple diner with a small menu but reasonable prices and good service. Whenever we visit here, the service has always been friendly and quick, the dining room is clean, and we've never had to wait very long to sit. They're always busy but never overcrowded, which is just right! It means the staff is on their toes and the customers are coming back again and again. While they don't have the same charm as the Train Station Cafe, the Country House has slightly lower prices and speedier service. They are right next to 295 so it's great for a pit stop, and it's also right up the street from the Riverwinds park which is a great place to just enjoy a nice day and watch the planes land across the river. read more

Consistently good food. It looks like a diner menu, but the food is well above typical diner quality. Everything tastes fresh and homemade. My husband loves their chicken and (insert noodle shape of the day here) soup. It isn't salty, and again, it tastes homemade without all of the hassle of having to make it yourself. Their meat is also better quality than you could get at any other diner. I'm not saying that you're going to get the best steak you've ever eaten here, but the chicken is tender and juicy, the veal is nowhere near tough, and my dad couldn't stop raving about how perfect his fish was. Many times, we are the only diners who are not senior citizens, based on its proximity to a 55+ housing development. Knowing how most of the seniors in my life are obsessed with finding a good bargain, I think that says a lot about this place. It's good food at a reasonable price. read more

I am visiting relatives in the area on my way back to college, and this was the second time I had been to this place. The first time I had been to the Country House, it was under renovation. Good breakfast food, even though the dining room didn't look like much. The newly remodeled diner was much better looking. I just got back from a dinner at the Country House, and I had the Main Line Burger. The burger was a 6 oz burger with fries and cole slaw. My meal was just enough to fill me up. However, my aunt and uncle got meals that were very very large. My aunt had the eggplant parm, and my uncle had the stuffed tomato. The eggplant parm came with a salad and a dessert. The stuffed tomato was basically a large salad, with large heaps of cole slaw and potato salad. I probably would have only finished half of their meals. For dessert, I had tapioca pudding, which was probably from a can, but still it was decent. The wait staff lacked something to be desired, but they weren't too terrible. It seemed like they only had one person on wait staff. Pros: Neighborhood restaurant with lots of options. Decent prices for the portions. Cons: Slow(ish) wait staff. Reported obvious pricing discrepancies to County Consumer Affairs Office for their attention. Customers SHOULD NOT BE RIPPED OFF!!!!! When County official went to Country House, management claimed the price discrepancies were because the items were Specials and that there was a time constraint. ????!!!! I have photos of the menu page. There is nothing about Specials and/or time. ???!!!! The County obviously did NOT do a thorough investigation-- just took the word of restaurant management. Food is good and the owners for me are top notch. I've been coming here for years and for the most part the service here is great. Heidi and Michelle are waitresses here and all they do is gossip about the customers they don't want to service. They are rude and arrogant which makes this place less desirable to come to. I will still come here because of the owners treat everyone with respect and the food is good and the price is reasonable. They only reason I've gave it a 4 starts and not 5 starts was because of the two individuals that i've mentioned in the beginning. read more
