Sausage Gravy over biscuit with side of potatoes
    Larry F.

My wife and I went here for breakfast today. We had an amazing experience. Our server Shea was one of the best servers I had the pleasure of meeting. Her knowledge of the menu and great personality was top notch. As for the food, one word Aweeeeesome. My wife had the sausage gravy over biscuits and potatoes on the side. She said it was very delicious and one of the best biscuits and gravy meals she had. I had the breakfast bowl special which after today will not be on the menu. It was the best breakfast bowl I ever had hands down. The quality of the ingredients were stunning. The bowl consisted of Chorizo, two eggs any way you like, avocado, pickled onions, black beans, jalapeño peppers, and tomatoes tossed in olive oil. The flavors are amazing. I only wish they would keep it in the menu. And yes I will go there again to try other menu items.

An IG post a week ago resulted in a spur of the moment breakfast run. Awesome service and delicious food (s/o to the in-house made sausage and biscuits). Looking forward to many more trips here. You didn't disappoint! I ate my food way too fast to post more pics, sorry!

    Shrimp Nashville Gravy Benedict

Pro: my previous visits to Kitchen87 have been absolutely satisfying, and I thought that it really couldn't get any better. However, the recent special I was lucky enough to experience was a game changer! Ladies and gents, let's talk about the "Shrimp Nashville Gravy Benedict". It's a cheddar biscuit, topped by battered/fried jumbo shrimp, adorned with Nashville hot sauce, and capped with over-easy eggs. THIS WAS MAGICAL!!! Con: I'm not sure how long they'll have this special. When it departs, I'll be sad. Bottom Line: I won't cry when this meal is over; I'll simply smile because it happened!

Truly a great find! Our server was attentive, friendly and funny. The food was great. The ambiance was nice and comfortable. I ordered shrimp and grits which was good (with a side of crispy hash browns). My daughter really liked their Reuben sandwich (and this place is great for those with peanut and sesame seed allergies! Thank you!). But I would say the winner was my husband's breakfast sandwich- he ordered one with two fried eggs, Swiss cheese, mushrooms and pork roll and claimed it's the best breakfast sandwich he ever had. He generously let me have one bite and it was really good. We'll def be back!

This place never disappoints. The shrimp & grits is my absolute favorite (bursting my flavors)! The Huevos rancheros is also delicious. The pancakes are so huge & so fresh & sweet, we usually get them as a "breakfast dessert" to share at the table. The coffee is always good & I love how they serve it in random coffee mugs, it adds charm. This place is always busy, but that's a good sign. It's worth the wait & service is quick, friendly, & efficient!

This was my first time at Kitchen 87 and the customer service was outstanding!! I was approached by staff as if I was family!! I was hooked from the energy and vibe I received when walking in!! I order chicken and waffles with corn beef hash with a cranberry drink on the side! I got all of this food under 20$! Food was delicious!! My waffles were soft and fluffy and the chicken was cooked perfectly!! I enjoyed the spicy syrup too!! My waiter, Eric, was absolutely right when he said "you'll be back and you will love the food!" Well, Eric was right and I will definitely be back!!

I wish I could give Kitchen87 more stars, but 5's the limit. The food, atmosphere and service are top notch! You will not be disappointed with anything on the menu. I can say that with confidence because we ate almost everything :)

Chicken and Waffles w/ sauce on the side (don't mind the small bite taken out of one of the pieces of chicken lol)

Owen, our host, was very considerate and offered to sit us up front near the window, or out back where it was very quiet, or up on the bar. We chose the bar where Chris was mixing drinks with his long mixer. The beer selection is top notch - all local brews, many highly rated, a wide selection. The food was spectacular - fresh and tasty. All made from scratch by chef David from local ingredients. This place really is "The Local" with it's selection of locally sourced food and drinks. The caesar salad is always a point of comparison for a good restaurant. Ours rated very highly - fresh, crisp, well made and zesty. The fish tacos were excellent, some of the best I've ever had - loaded, spicy, fresh, with lots of well balanced flavors. Turns out there is another room behind the wall - a Speakeasy. We were very tempted but unfortunately had to miss it so that we could get up early and resume our road trip. But it too was very much "The Local" - a curated list of 300 American Whiskeys, including the local distilleries.

There's parking in front but also a very large lot behind the restaurant). We were immediately seated and given menus to browse while we waited for our server. The menu, while smaller, still has many fun and interesting options so we had no problem deciding on our meals (& drinks). The Blackberry Smash and the Autumn Cow-Man were the cocktails we ordered and the Thai Chili Brussels, Cheesesteak Eggrolls were the apps and the Buffalo Wings and Grilled Chicken Sandwich were the entrees. ALL THE FOOD (& drinks) were AMAZING!!!! Flavors were popping! Portions were generous! The food truly lived up to all the hype! The only reason the review isn't 5 stars is because our server was seriously on delay ... it had nothing to do with being busy because we had clear sight of him the entire time ... he was just on "island time" in NJ lol! We didn't make a big deal out of it because we were in no rush and were really enjoying ourselves but if he would've been on his Ps and Qs this would've been a 5 star review. The good news is we will be back so, there's another chance (or chances) to make it 5 stars!

But the service that is amazing and all the smiling staff here make up for anything that I don't see on the menu. The place is really well put together and is a very handsome bar it's mostly very wooden and heavy duty. The ambience is something for everyone on the TV or you can just chitchat. They even have this little side room that is nice but beware and bring a coat or a sweater cause it does get chilly in there. They're always seems like a really great group of people there and our favorite waitress is KB/Kristen. She is truly amazing and very attentive, but not annoying. We love their chicken fajitas and steak fajitas, the Cheesesteaks are delish! But My Newest Favorite for the Moment..... is the "We Jammin Burger". It has bacon onion Jam on it and it is amazing! I didn't think that I would like it as Much as I do! But I Realllllllly Do! I'm not really a burger fan... like my husband Is, But THIS BURGER..... has been a Game changer for Me. Warning: Make room in your fridge... because You will definitely bring leftovers home. This meal can feed a family of 4 Easily!! Their Cajun quesadilla is delicious and it does have a nice little zing. Their traditional wings are amazing and their beef stew is delicious and very hearty. We have tried many of their specialties. The Hail Mary is a delicious Caesar salad on top of chicken cutlets and their Broccoli Chicken Cheesesteak is amazing. I recommend you get it pressed on the grill and that way it won't fall out as you bite each delicious bite. I would say 80 to 90% of the visits that we have had at this amazing establishment. We always bring home leftovers. So be aware that you were going to have lunch for tomorrow. You will get to the point where you will just think of something to eat that they have on their menu and your mouth will just start to drool. We definitely recommend going. I'm not a huge drinker so I really can't say much as for their drinks but everyone there seems very happy and the portions are huge. I definitely say try it, what's the worst that happens you have leftovers for the next day or two lol It is my husband and my favorite new place that's been around forever Hey, maybe we'll see you there

The portion sizes were generous; both my burger and the Cheesesteak Deluxe were large enough that we brought leftovers home from both entrées. Cons: Unfortunately, the drinks were not good. I ordered a Downeast Cider on tap and it tasted like the line may not have been cleaned recently. My companion ordered a cosmopolitan that was essentially undrinkable--extremely strong and not well balanced. We later learned the bartender is new, so hopefully that improves with experience. The wings were also served cold, and the Jammin' burger came out without the bacon jam that's supposed to be a key part of the dish. The restaurant itself is also very tight quarters. If you prefer more personal space or feel more comfortable in places where it's easy to move around or exit quickly, this may not be the best spot for you. Overall: The staff was very attentive and clearly tried to make things right after several mistakes occurred. They comped our soda, appetizer, and dessert, which we appreciated. However, given the number of issues during one visit, I'm not sure we'd return.

Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.
