Stayed in the Hilton that Kitty O'Shea's lives in so we stopped by for a quick lunch. Typical Irish pub fare and the most ginormous booths you've ever seen. The crowd were mostly business professionals stopping in for lunch and wandering hotel guests. The waitress was nice and the service was a bit slow, even though the restaurant was quite empty. The food was okay. The Kitty's Award Winning Mac and Cheese featuring gouda & cheddar béchamel, cauliflower, raisins, puff pastry, and miso butterscotch sauce was a very very very surprisingly good dish. It's super heavy and sounds quite strange, but tastes delicious. Besides that, the salmon was overcooked, the Caesar dressing tastes like sweet 1,000 islands dressing (or did they just put the wrong one on? not sure) and the Carolina Style BBQ Pork Sandwich was dry according to one of my colleagues. Loved it here- very good for a hotel restaurant- great atmosphere and our server was very good. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious, my only complaint would be that my portions were less than my colleagues who ordered cheaper sandwiches. This probably would have been 3 stars if not for the prices. We came on a friday during the blackhawks convention which we did not know about (try social media so your customers know whats up) and it was absolutely packed. Idk how but we scored a table outside right away and luckily it was nice outside. The food was cooked well but was nothing special. I got the bourbon salmon which need more glaze (the glaze was delicious) but for what you get on the plate it isn't worth the $18. My gf got the shepards pie which was pretty decent but tasted a little bland and not homemade. We got buttered cabbage (good but needed a little pepper and salt maybe), and the mac and cheese which was decent. Their home brew is ok after a glass but my initial thoughts on it were fairly negative. The service was good, a little attitude-y at first but i can imagine she was under a lot of pressure, that place had to of been filled to capacity and then she was much nicer later. The biggest disappointment was the prices which was cool with us since we had a giltcity voucher and it only cost us $29 (SCORE!) However i would not return without a voucher or something. I've been here before to grab a beer while out walking around the city. Loved the place then, so when I was back in town and happened to walk past it again, I decided to stop in. It was hot outside and having a cold Strongbow Cider beer sounded perfect! Too bad the bartender told me they were out of it. Boooooooo! How do you run out of a beer at 3pm on a Tuesday? It opens until late, food is good but the service and price is bit poor. I saw the menu at the entrance and decided what to have but once I sat at the table, waier told me there isn't such thing. One of the guy who took my order was blunt, seems like he wanted me to go away soon, but other guy offered me water when I did not have anvthing to drink, so I think not all of them are unfriendly. My mom and I stayed in the Hilton for a weekend. We had been walking around all day and came back for an afternoon nap...that turned into a very long nap. I'd remembered that Kitty O'Shea's served the best Chicken Pot Pie on the planet, so I insisted that my convention colleagues join me here for dinner. It's the crazy crowded hotel bar, but they were willing to accommodate. Unfortunately, they've taken the pot pie off the menu, and we just had a passable dinner in a busy hotel bar. Darn! The Shepherd's Pie was only fair. The cheesy potato top was okay, but there was more gravy than meat underneath, and the meat wasn't very well seasoned (no lamb involved either, but it still had looked like the best thing on the menu.) Mussels were equally boring, although I did appreciate that they had opened them in the kitchen so I didn't have to stare longingly at any closed shells. Had lunch at the bar two days when staying at the Hilton; while getting the bartender's attention took a couple minutes, she was attentive and very helpful once engaged. Thought the BLT was an excellent sandwich but thought the burger tasted a bit odd (don't know if it was meat or seasoning). We stopped in after the Blackhawk convention. So granted they were busy. But the food was not good. We had burgers,chicken wings, and Nuggets. Along with cokes. The Coke was flat, the chicken wings looked like they were reheated(the meat looked like it shrank on the bone and the bone ends were bright white) my son at 1. The $15 burger was smaller than the bun. My husband asked for Avocado an extra $3. She kept forgetting to bring it so eventually deducted it. 3 times she said she'd be back with refills. We were visiting a group of out-of-towers and came here mostly out of convenience. This restaurant is located beneath the Hilton downtown. Service: A We had a continually expanding group and they were very accommodating about us pushing tables together. The service was appropriately paced, yet not intrusive. Food: C+ We had a variety of appetizers among the whole group. The fried Brie cheese with jam and toast was definitely a stand out. However, other dishes like the pork belly and cheese curds fell short. The cheese curbs were cold and rubbery when they came out- never a good thing. Kind of pricey because it is attached to the Hilton. The waiters were slow. There was nobody there and we still waited for a good 5 minutes before anyone eve said hi. That is not a long time, but when you are one of 4 other patrons, it seems service should be snappier. The potato flat bread was great. On a good note, I would recommend to hang out with friends for apps and beer at Kitty O'Shea's...and irish music of course! Being pregnant, I did not get to enjoy the Guinness but I did get carded when I ordered a Diet Coke at the bar...hmm. The potato skins were a great closing to the evening for me. But when I went there for lunch a few days before I ordered the cheeseburger and GROSS! Don't do this to yourself. I agree with the "month old frozen grade C beef" comment below, lol. Good place to pop in after work and have a drink with friends. Appetizers are typical bar fare, nothing extraordinary but certainly not objectionable. Staff is more attentive when lingering at the bar as opposed to out at the tables. Diverse crowd, lots of neat people to meet and watch. Good outdoor seating on Michigan Avenue as well, which is nice in the summer which in Chicago is from July 14th to July 19th, approximately and respectively. read more

A 4 star visit followed by a 2 star visit = a 3 star review. Since we were staying at the Hilton Towers we managed to find our way to Kitty Oshea's twice during our Chicago weekend. The first trip was on a Friday night, around 10 o'clock, right after we got in to town. Our in room dining guide mentioned they had Guinness battered onion rings and I was sold. After looking through their menu twice down at Kitty's I asked the waitress if they still had the Guinness onion rings. Her response was "No. I wish." When I inquired why they got rid off them she said that the owner just redid the menu a month ago. Why you would take out a signature item that was liked by the staff and I assume the customers is beyond me. Their saving grace was that their beer of the month was Sam Adams Octoberfest. $5 draft, not bad for a hotel bar and one of my favorite beers. Also they had live music, nothing amazing but exactly what you want at a pub. I ordered the fish and chips and slowly started to forget about the onion rings. The fish was very basic but the tarter sauce was great and the fries at Kitty's are very good. There's some kind of a lime taste to them that goes perfectly with a drink. Our second trip to Kitty's was on a Sunday night, the mood in the bar was completely different. No live music even though the schedule said there was supposed to be, only overturned stools on the stage. The clientele two days later was day and night from the previous visit. It felt like I was in another bar. Sunday night had brought in all the suits for some conference the hotel was starting on Monday. All the tables around us were filled with good ole boy backslapping, bragging about who sold the most staplers in the previous quarter. Top that off with them being out of Octoberfest (I didn't have that many the previous night. I promise.) the waitress offered a local comparable beer, it wasn't. I downed my imitation Sam Adams and a side of fries as quickly as I could before I started getting handed business cards. I actually felt bad for the waitress. All these middle aged dullards trying their best one liners on her while they are away from the Misses. I guess Kitty O'Sheas is going to be one of those bars where some nights it's fun and sometimes you know to take your bar tab elsewhere. The food is okay and I recommend Kitty's over the other bar at the Hilton. They do have TVs at the other bar if you want to catch a game. read more

Ate here with my husband last night during our stay at the Hilton. We're usually not the people to visit an Irish pub, but we thought we'd give it a try since we did not want to embrace the Chicago cold winds. We ordered: Flight to O'hare (beer flight), the shank of lamb plate, and the macaroni and cheese with short ribs. Overall, we were impressed with the food. Chef Hugo outdid himself with the lamb, and the waiter informed us afterwards that the Mac and cheese was award winning- definitely tasted like it! The atmosphere was cool- Irish paraphernalia hanging from the walls, low lights, and sports playing on the TVs (I mean, it's a pub, would you expect anything less?) we self-seated, and i regret sitting at the high top table- it was so uncomfortable. I would recommend a booth. Well worth the price for food and drink, and would likely visit again. read more

Ate here during the Blackhawks convention. It was obviously crazy crowded by the staff handled it well and remained attentive. I enjoyed a delicious bacon, Irish cheddar burger and a green line. The burger was amazing! And obviously the green line was terrific as always. The fries were perfectly seasoned and not too soggy. I would definitely go back here if I was in the area. The fact that they can handle that many hungry and thirty Blackhawks fans running around in such a small area is impressive on its own. read more

Ate here because it was close to my hotel and had open tables on a Saturday night. The beer menu was a draw for me. Good selection on draft. I had a local brewery. The fish and chips was good. Fish was tender inside a thin crust of batter. Chips were cut in a broad spiral and fried to crisp on the outside and soft inside. My side of coleslaw was creamy but with little spice and boring. I wouldn't say that it has the most fantastic food in the city, but if you're going to the Symphony and don't want to eat at Bennigans this is a great place to stop in. I run a lot of race's, and it's also a great place to grab a bite to eat after you're done. OK, so we went here for drinks and music after dinner. We sat in this place for about 45 minutes, and the band had already been on a break for a half hour. They never came back while we were there, and there was a little drunk guy causing a scene. Apparently, he was a guest of the hotel, so they were reluctant to do anything for a while. He was touching people coming in to the place, and walking close to them to try to intimidate them. The fact that he was allowed to do that to several different people, was ridiculous. He should have been arrested. I have decided not to ever go back to this place. read more

Save your time and money, and pay for a cab a few blocks away. This place sucks hard. $10 for a metered out small Jack and Coke? $10 a shot using crappy well alcohol? Besides being filled with a very douchy crowd for the most part, the rest of the people were cougars on business trying to hide the rings swollen the fingers or guys in dress shirts and shorts. You can't make an Irish pub cool by importing a few guys with accents and having Guinness on tap....sorry. I'd expect to pay those prices in NYC at a trendy spot, not in this place with poor service, a few crappy outdoor seats with a good views of the bums and a bathroom that that hadn't been cleaned in a week. read more

Very Disappointing. Didn't come in hungry-ordered a small caesar salad with salmon, daughter ordered a large pub salad-both were drenched in dressing and the salmon was dry and tasted like tuna. Staying at the Hilton, I was feeling lazy and stayed in for dinner. There aren't a lot of choices in the hotel so ended up at Kitty O'Sheas. Ordered some drinks, including a Black and Tan and a Guinness which were poured very poorly. Next up was an appetizer platter with some of the puniest and blandest wings, cold potato skins, and mediocre onion rings. Just when this was quickly approaching a 1-2 star review appeared he entrees, which were a complete mystery because they were very good and beautifully presented. The fish and chips were solid and presented in a little fryer basket. The Shepherd's Pie was even better, served in a modern square bowl and served with cabbage and soda bread. The mashed potato was piping hot, and the meat filling was savory and flavorful. The other mystery? the price. The shepherd's pie was just $13, which is $10 less than the hotel's breakfast buffet. Overall, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if you're staying at the Hilton, it is a relative bargain. read more

Kitty O'Sheas has been around for ever. In fact (I'm dating myself) I went here after my senior prom in the late 80's--the first place I'd ever tried a Guiness (but definitely not the last...) Anyway, it is pretty standard hotel/bar food, but a good option for the South loop either before, after or during a concert in Grant Park. It's true, their staff are mainly from the homeland, which is a nice touch. Also good for people watching when various conventions are in town, like the conference of mayors. Don't get the chicken fingers. read more

After walking around the Chicago waterfront and checking out the awesome museums, we were famished and luckily found this restaurant inside a really fancy Hilton. The salmon dish which topped mashed potatoes was awesome. The portions were huge. Luckily, I am married to a former chef so he was able to recreate the salmon dish at home. Many commented on the prices which were high considering the area. Service was prompt and attentive. read more
