I did have a couple of very specific items that I would purchase if the price was right. I had a caliper/vernier on the list. Mine has lost its tiny electric brain and is crazy. I spotted the mechanical one that I wanted. The quality was astonishing, this tool will certainly last forever. Honestly, I could include this item in my will. It was certainly more expensive than the electronic one that I got from Harbor Freight. I've tried to use the Harbor Freight version, but it was useless. So for this particular tool pay for the quality. Making a shopping list was certainly more productive than actually walking into the store with a pre-generated list. I spotted a lot of items that I knew I was out of, but hasn't made it onto any list at all. I spotted a Dremel tool at a very low price. It may have been on clearance. Now I do want a Dremel tool, but I would use it so infrequently that it's hard to justify. However, the price was low enough that I felt much temptation. I must have been completely turned around the first time I was in the store. This time I found the clearance bins. As usual I found quite a few items to tempt me. I managed to hold my horses and resist but it wasn't easy. The store is also bigger than I realized. Which means the greatest barrier to shopping is finding your item in the maze. I didn't buy anything so my take on customer service is a little shaky. However, the staff did seem to be awfully efficient And the line moved rapidly. This store is part of a chain, and I have certainly been in bigger ones. But I didn't miss the size. They have simply jammed a lot of inventory into a smaller space. But you do need a sharp eye just in case you walk by an item. I like this hardware store. But there is one way close to me at home which I like faintly better. So I'm going home with my shopping list.

All the shopping carts are inside and have a long pole on them so you can't bring them outside. It was really nicely decorated when I walked in. All their displays looked so pretty and appealing. They have a nice kitchen and dining section with lots of beautiful glasses. I especially loved the plastic cups that had dried flowers floating loose inside the clear plastic. If you're still needing a Valentine's gift or cards, they have a nice selection of both. I found a really cute pop up Valentine's Day card for my husband. There a section of door mats that is so cute. There was a hamburger doormat and even steamed soup dumplings. I decided to get the steamed soup dumpling doormat. It is so fun and unique. Their Easter items are also out on display. They are really cute this year. I was kindly helped at the checkout by a very friendly employee. She showed me where I could download a coupon to use on my purchase. I saved $5. That was very nice of her. I will definitely have to remember to come here more often. We've been going…read morehere more in the last year or so after we had new landscaping done and needed replacement plants for plants that didn't survive the original planting. We've bought simpler plants like lavender plants as well as a Japanese maple. They have a frequent shopper account that you can accumulate rewards for too. The one thing that's nice is they have a plant guarantee where you can get reimbursed for a plant that doesn't make it, which is great if you don't have a really green thumb. We did use that once for a smaller/cheaper plant and it was no problem. Luckily, the pricier tree has done well. Service is always friendly and responsive. They can recommend suitable plants that fit certain sunlight or water requirements that you might have. Prices are higher than non-nurseries like hardware stores, but the plant quality seems overall higher and the survival guarantee of course is worth a fair amount if you're more of a beginner gardener like us.

A few phone calls later, Charles answered from the Santa Cruz store, and drove an hour to San Jose to allow us to pick up our furniture. We were able to get everything we needed and more. Very happy with this location. Their sign is very noticeable from outside the mall, plenty of parking as well. Walking in we were greeted immediately. They have a bunch of small trinkets/pens/goodies to the left as well as a selection of skeletons and other outdoor decor further on. Just past the front counter they have all the home decor from various movies or themes. They've got a wall of blankets (some plush and some not so much so definitely check them out before buying!) and on the other side of that there are masks, larger animatronic spooky decorations and props. All the baby through young adult costumes are on the left side of the store while all the adult costumes are on the right side. They seem to have a larger selection this year than last when it comes to certain kid characters (different variations) so it was neat seeing the expansion.
